Inside the MBTA’s Restaurant Deals in Boston | Eater Boston
"Located in a historic conductor’s building across from the Newburyport Commuter Rail, this spot serves dishes like smoked pork belly tacos, Buffalo chicken empanadas and a New England–inspired crispy cod burrito beneath twinkling string lights and colorful sugar skulls. The owner, Erik Metzdorf, revived a derelict property he won a lease for after a 2015 bid, launching from a Kickstarter and a repertoire of taco recipes; he budgeted $342,000 for renovations but says the work ultimately topped $500,000. Under the MBTA lease he took on full responsibility for building upkeep—utilities, HVAC and electrical transformer maintenance, roof repairs—and even cleaning up hazards left on the grounds (including hundreds of hypodermic needles), accepting those costs in exchange for otherwise favorable terms and only infrequent check-ins from the MBTA." - Celina Colby
