My Dream Courthouse Wedding Ended With Margaritas | Eater

"A casual, reliable Tex‑Mex neighborhood spot the couple frequented for mole enchiladas and margaritas, often enjoyed on the patio without a reservation. The meal was consistently satisfying—enchiladas that “hit the spot” every time, plenty of chips and salsa, queso fundido with freshly made corn tortillas—and on the wedding day featured sangria‑swirl margaritas and lingering laughter with close friends. Low‑key and affordable, it’s the kind of place ideal for spontaneous celebrations and stress‑free gatherings, remembered fondly as the perfect, unpretentious cap to an impromptu courthouse wedding." - Amy McCarthy

Review Updated 2/22/25: I still love MexAm food, but I don't love their updated prices. Tonight, I ordered Eggs w/ Country Ham, online the price is posted as $7.75 + $1.50 (upcharge for dinner). When we arrived in person an additional $1 was added (temporary upcharge per breakfast item). This one meal was $10.25 + tax. Also, be aware of the prices when they are ringing up your meal at the register. The online prices do not always match the in person menu prices. In addition, we often have several unknown charges added, and when we ask what the charges are for, they are removed with no explanation. On a previous visit, an additional $7 was added to our bill for no reason. Original Review Posted 2022: We love Mexam! The food is fresh, and always tasty. I had the Texas Fajitas salad (picture included) to-go for dinner last night. I shared the pickled jalapenos and carrots (in the small container) with my husband, and he said that they were delicious. I also requested the cheese on the side. The menu also said that it included cucumbers, tomatoes, but I guess someone forgot to throw them on...so it was basically lettuce and meat 🤷‍♀️. I am still rating the restaurant with 5 stars, because it was still very tasty. I will just check my order before leaving the restaurant next time 😁.

I ordered delivery from this restaurant and tried the Texas A.C.P and the fried cheesecake chimichanga. Both dishes were delicious! The Texas A.C.P was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. The fried cheesecake chimichanga was a delightful treat, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Delivery was prompt and the food arrived hot. Highly recommend trying these dishes!

The food was good up until my son bit down on a broken toothpick in his chimichanga and when I mentioned it to the waitress all she did was smile at me didn't say we apologize for serving you something that could have potentially hurt you. We've eaten here before and the food was excellent but I can't give them a glowing review when they aren't even apologetic for something I'm sure was accidental.

I had breakfast at this restaurant the staff are absolutely awesome from the door to the table you wait to be sorted and are immediately greeted at the door and taken to a comfortable booth drink ordered quickly taken. I had this huge cheese and onion omelette with home fries I’m sorry I didn’t immediately take a picture the food was sooo good . I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture before i ate the omelette was so big I took some home

This restaurant is so nice and clean on the inside! The food was very reasonably priced and tasted delicious. Service was prompt and the servers were friendly. We don't live in Graham, but if we are ever back over that way, we'd for sure go to Mexam again!

Mexam was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. The chips and salsa were not my favorite. The salsa had a salty taste and was almost bitter. The chips were on the border of being stale. The burrito was full of meat and the rice and beans were good. The service was okay but nothing to brag about. Judging by the once always full parking lot many other patrons may have the same opinions.

The lunch Texas ACP was good only two shrimp. The salsa was not my favorite, it was kinda bitter and salty. My opinion. Our waitress was okay.

Soooo good, I’ve tried dinner here and just recently breakfast! My taste buds were stumped and satisfied! I never would have expected breakfast AND the biscuits from a Mexican restaurant to be so darn GOOD! I got a shrimp omelette!

Yelp
I work close to this restaurant and they have the best breakfast burritos in town, and they're open early. The pancakes are delicious, on the "American" side, and the food is nicely seasoned. The Chili Relleno is a personal favorite. Recently I requested "breakfast nachos", something I used to get from El Torito's in California, and they made it happen. (basically, nachos supreme with scrambled eggs instead of chicken.) I've had it twice since. It's not fancy, it's fairly priced, and it's an easy walk from my office. What more do you want? I like the atmosphere, it's not too bright inside and the regulars and waitstaff are friendly. They serve Pepsi products, another bonus in my opinion.

Yelp
I've gotten take out here twice (maybe three times?) I called and placed my order. Quick and easy. The food portions are huge! And the price is affordable! 4 stars because I ordered a specific side one time and they gave me something different. It was still delicious.

Yelp
Just don't even waste your time or put your immune system at risk by going here. Went today and the service was absolutely awful, as a matter of fact as I was sliding into my sticky table I overheard another couple complaining and leaving without eating the food that was dropped at their table because it wasn't what they ordered and they weren't getting any service. Anyhow, I ordered the "two stuffed poblano peppers with rice and beans" What was delivered was one sad looking pepper cut in half with giant chunks of boiled potato and sliced tomato covered in cheese. I asked the server what this was and that I assumed it came stuffed with rice and beans like the menu stated. She responded with, "where did you even find that in the menu?" So I pointed it out to her and she said maybe it comes with rice and beans on the side. I was in the middle of telling her that I don't want it either way but she was already off to the kitchen. When she returned she said it can come with rice and beans on the side. I replied with, "no thanks, it's not as the menu describes and frankly it's not what I'd ever expect to get when ordering stuffed peppers." With she said scoffed and stated, "well then you should have asked!" In my head I was like "Pleeeeeeease. Dont even come at me with some defensive BS. You dont even know where it is on your menu and I know these menus haven't changed in a hot minute because they are grimy AF." But I stayed cool and politely declined the dish (and her attitude). This experience was ended with me having to ask our server from across the restaurant if we could have our check because she never came back after that.

Yelp
My wife wanted Mexican food and this place was near our next destination so we tried MA. Food: My wife found her steak and chicken fiesta to be really good. My taco was greasy, the enchilada was good, the rice was ok but the beans were too chunky and cold. Service: The wait staff were trying to their pre-close more than take proper orders, bring the bill or ask if their customers need things as they dine. Prices: Average for a Mexican place at night. WARNING: THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF HIRING AN ALL NEW STAFF SO THE FOOD AND SERVICE WILL GET WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER!!

Yelp
Things have changed at Mex Am. I have been going there since it opened but I go less and less. The food quality is not as good as it used to be, seems like the kitchen staff has experienced some turnover. I used to love to go there for breakfast. They had great omelets. But the last two tones I had one they were just scrambled eggs with everything piled on top it was not the way it used to be for sure. Also the last time we were there for dinner on a Tuesday night we waited almost 45 minutes to get our food. They said we are busy and only one cook. Sounds bad from a staffing point of view. Also there are noticeable differences in some of the veggies not be as fresh as they have been in the past. I have also seen a large turnover in staff which is never good. Over all I would say it's an ok Mexican place but there are better for sure. Breakfast still ok, just don't get an omelet.

Yelp
We had an awful experience here. The food was mediocre and the service was horrible. They forgot half our meal and the waitresses was clueless. The drink were all mixer and the waitress would disappear for 20 minutes at a time.. Now if they were busy maybe we'd cut her some slack but only 3 tables 3 waitresses... We won't ever go back. There are too many good Mexican restaurants around town. Don't waste your time.

Yelp
Mex-Am is an interesting little Mexican restaurant that has some decent, but not great, Mexican food. The question is: is the visit worth it or should you find somewhere else? The Food: the food is pretty good. It's got a nice, authentic flavor with mild spiciness and well-cooked shells. The biggest complaint I'd have is the tendency by the staff to overuse some of the sauces (like on the enchiladas). Sauce is supposed to enhance a dish, not drown it. Still, the food I've ordered has been consistently good. Be aware that the lunch specials are for (surprise) lunch only, Monday through Friday. They do not count on the weekend, which means you're paying the more expensive dinnertime prices. The service is OK, but not great. Whether it's waiting too long to be seated in a half-empty restaurant or waiting for a server to refill my drink, there's a lot of improvement that could be made. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and fairly typical of Mexican restaurants in the area. As a bonus, there is an outdoor eating area, which is great when it's not winter. They also serve a fairly American breakfast, but I've not sampled it.

Yelp
We went here for dinner after our sons ball game. The salsa was not good mainly tomato sauce with very little flavor. They brought out the wrong drinks but brought the correct drinks quickly after they realized what they had done. When they brought out our food our sons food was wrong he had a cheese quesadilla they brought a chicken quesadilla and had to go get the correct food. The food we had was lacking in flavor. The best thing we had was the cheese dip and the tea was good. Don't think we will return for a second try. The food was not worth what we paid.

Yelp
Love this place. Sunday morning breakfast before church. Breakfast burritos are the best that I have tried in the area.

Yelp
This is the "other" Mex-Am that opened in the old Tasty Bakery building. Just as good as the original! Food is excellent! The remodeling done has turned this into a real gem for downtown Graham.

Yelp
Average Mexican restaurant. Not much to choose from on the American side for dinner. The refried beans were very runny. One person in our group had the Hawaian burrito and said it was great. One person had the carne asada and said it was the worst they had. Said the meat tasted bad. I had a taco enchilada combo. Nothing special nothing bad. Very good service and good prices.

Yelp
I used to love this place. But, over the years, in it's Main St. Graham location, it has steadily gone down hill. My last 3 visits have made me not ever want to come back here. The service now is horrible, my order was totally wrong. I ordered a beef tostada and a grilled chicken quesadilla. I received a soft shell taco and a shredded chicken quesadilla with a lot of green peppers...I can't eat green peppers. I did not notice the incorrect order quesadilla until later, I immediately noticed the soft shell taco vs. the tostado...so, it was sent back. She brought back the correct order of beef tostado, but when I pulled the quesadillo apart I noticed all the green peppers and shredded chicken. The waitress finally came over and I told her...she looked kind of dismayed that I called it to her attention and alerted me she had to wait on customers at the register first(a table of 8). So, 10 minutes later she comes back and gets the 2nd incorrect order, I ask for more salsa, since it was obvious I wouldn't be eating any time soon...never received the salsa. The correct order finally came out, but by then, my lunch was over and I had to get a to go box. When I was checking out the waitress was quick to call to my attention that she had filled the ticket out correctly and that the cooks messed it all up. That was fine and I left her a 20% tip...my complaint with her is that she dismissed my incorrect order and made me wait before she took it to the kitchen. Will not be back!! It saddens be to say that, because I have been a loyal customer for many years.

Yelp
Their daily dinner specials are all great. Excellent service, price, and you will not walk out still being hungry. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Haven't had a chance to try their lunch menu, but breakfast and dinner has always been excellent. Price is extremely reasonable, quality is extremely high. My first choice for good Mexican food, and it should be yours too!

Yelp
Very good food, but... They wanted to charge me extra for chips & salsa with my to-go dinner salad. If I would have bought a cheaper "entree" on their menu, chips would have been included at no extra charge. When I go in the restaurant, sit down, & order/eat this same dinner salad, they give you chips & salsa at no extra charge. When I asked for an explanation of this, they could only say, "Well, it's just different." This "difference" as they have coined it, makes no sense whatsoever.

Keith W.

Yelp
Food has usually been very good. Service is hot or miss. Sometimes its been good, and sometimes not so good. Chip are hit or miss too. Sometimes the chips are warm and fresh and other times they are cool and stale. The entrees, however, have always been pretty good.,
