So, I grew up with the Mexican Inn locations. The main one being the East Lancaster location because that was the neighborhood I grew up in. Over the years depending on how close I was I always tried to hit that one up. It's mostly stayed the same, but the last couple years or so on visits, it just seemed like the great chips were always really thick and a little stale, while the basic tex mex seemed unseasoned and it usually needed big doses of salt sometimes just to get some taste to it. But I just kinda figured maybe they all headed that way. I ate at this location a long time ago right after it opened, and don't remember a thing about it. Recently I was in the area at dinner and it had been months since a visit so I decided to check out the "other side" kinda.
Went in late evening. Interior looks like all the others. Got seated, knew what I wanted, the cheese enchilada and tamale, rice and beans combo. Waiter drops off some chips and salsa. First thing I noticed the chips here were thinner, fresher, and tasted fantastic. Same thing with the salsa, like they had just been made earlier. I know Mexican Inn has always made in house chips, salsa and tortillas, but I also remember years ago when the East Lancaster location had to get theirs from other locations. I don't know if they still do that, but this location had a very obvious taste difference, and it was much better.
The food comes out and it tastes a little different also. It actually has some seasoning to it, even a little pepper, and once again, everything tastes...fresher? I'm not sure, but it seemed really noticeable to me. I don't know, but I know it was the best meal at a Mexican Inn I've had in years. Food was great, and service was good. The only thing I noticed was the corn tortillas I got were a little brittle and broken, but not enough that I didn't eat to many! Pretty sure I'm going to make the effort to come to this location from now on.
