Rickshaw Republic Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Rickshaw Republic specializes in authentic Indonesian street food. It’s why the name alludes to the rickshaws street peddlers use to carry things around. Rickshaw is unique because hardly anyone else around is doing authentic Indonesian food. It’s a real family affair, with mom and one son in the kitchen and dad and the other son handling everything else. It’s impressive they make it work, especially when I consider how my family would treat each other in a hot kitchen with a bunch of sharp knives. They’ve managed to successfully share a bit of Indonesian food and culture straight out of Lincoln Park. The restaurant may look generic from the outside, but one step in and it’s far from that. You’ll immediately be taken in by the artwork and colors on the walls and ceilings, and the intrigue will follow you to the menu. You’re not expected to be an Indonesian street food pro - that’s why you should ask for recommendations and let the waitstaff guide you through your meal. We particularly recommend doing the rice table so you can try a lot of different things." - Sam Faye

Erika was amazing. We haven’t been here in a while but my family and I went today. We enjoyed the food, drinks, and customer service. The food is always consistent and flavorful. That tortilla soup is soooo good!

We came in 10 minutes before closing…staff is very welcoming and attentive! Great food and drinks! The margarita flight is the best!!

It was an OK dining experience. The waitstaff was great

Highly recommend for lunch. Tacos and margaritas are great and reasonable prices. Nice place, relaxing outdoors seating, good tacos compared to another restaurant around here. Very tasty margaritas. Tasteless ceviche I ever have. Good discounts on weekdays.

Google
They let us in after the kitchen closed and gave us drinks, made delicious food, and let another 2 people join. And then we got free shots! It felt like I was visiting a friend’s house because we were treated like guests rather than customers. The hospitality was amazing, the food was delicious, and the drinks were strong and tasty. Go here and you’re guaranteed to have a great night out in Forest Park! This is my first review EVER by the way.

Google
First time here, was looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try. Outdoor seating available, we sat inside because it was hot outside. Got seated right away, party of 5. We ordered a tampiqueña, which was good , nice size piece of meat, only thing I would change is to ask for the enchilada that comes with the order to be put on the side and not on top of the steak. My wife got the quesabirrias, came with a side of consome, the quesabirrias were good, good flavor, the consome was alright could be better. Kids got a steak burrito, steak tacos and quesadillas. No complaints from them. Kids got churros and ice cream that came with the kids meal. The menu has a lot to choose from including seafood. FYI service charge for bigger parties. Prices are alright compared to others, 17.00 dollars for a steak burrito with rice is on the higher end . I would come again to try the seafood. The decor inside is nice . Something new to try if you are looking for a place to eat Mexican food.

Google
This was my first time eating there. The food was great and our waitress, Celeste, was very friendly and welcoming. I had the Camarones a la diabla, and it was delicious and spicy, just the way I like it. Definitely will be back!

Google
This was my first time here. They had 1 free "on the rocks" margaritas (4 or 5 flavors available) for each mom. We were a few moms in our group, so got to taste the mango, tamarind, and raspberry margaritas....all were good but I think the tamarind one was voted the best in our group. The food was very good would have given them 4.5 stars if I knew how. I personally chose to have the Botana dish from the appetiser menu as my meal and let me tell you, it was ALOT of food and very good...I got to bring home about half of it because I was stuffed! Other dishes tasted by our group were the stuffed jalapeños, the skirt steak, the burrito meals of Asada, chili relleno, enchiladas and all were tasty. The tres leches cake, the flan and the sopapillas were also enjoyed heartily. The Mexican coffee with liquor and the Cafe de Olla were also good but just not quite hot enough. Special thanks to our wonderful waitress, Yucely who was AWESOME!!! Thank you for your wonderful personality and cheer. You are an asset to this restaurant. We hope they realize it!

Yelp
Excellent, authentic Mexican food! My mouth is watering thinking about this meal. My friends took me here for a nice Saturday afternoon lunch. The place was pretty dead (a bit concerned because it was a beautiful day). We chose to sit on the patio. Lovely view of the downtown area. The service was a bit lacking at first and we were a little concerned. The waiter seemed a bit new and unsure. It took a while before the waiter came to take our drink order. But -- it was all uphill from here and we were pleasantly surprised with the rest. The DRINKS! I ordered a Margarita Flight - which consisted of Mezcalita, mango, Traditional Margarita and cucumber jalapeño. They were served in cute little skinny glasses on a neat wooden plank. The mezcalita was reaaaaallly good. So was the cucumber jalapeño Margarita. I ordered a full sized cucumber Margarita. And THE FOOOOOOD!!!!!!! Oh my gosh! I only ordered the side of Mexican street corn caus I had a hankering for it. I didn't know it would be a huge serving. I couldn't eat it all. My bad. The shrimp tostadas!!!! MMMMMM! Oh my! Crispy fried tostada shells, a little refried beans, hot sauce and shrimp. Some lettuce on top and mmmm mmmm mmmmmm! Oh they were great. My friend ordered the Chicken Enchiladas Verdes Entree and he loved it. My other friend went with the Pastor Taco and raja mushroom tacos. She raved about them as well. Huge menu and plenty of options. The prices are also very reasonable. We were very happy.

Yelp
Mexican Republic is such an amazing place to grab yourself a bit to eat, drink and share laughter with your friends. This super colorful restaurant draws you in for drinks and keeps you there for the food. The staff does a great job serving the customers and making sure they're satisfied and pleased. My friend and I came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon and upon entering we were only one of two tables in this incredibly large place. There's a full bar when you first enter. So in the event you come for the drinks only, there's a spot just for you! Our server made sure my friend and her daughter was comfortable by bringing up coloring sheets, Hugh chairs, waters and juices before we could even ask! That's the definition of customer service. We are the scorpion drink and the margarita flight. The flight is decently sized and the flavors are popping. Please note, they don't have fresh juices but the juices used are super concentrated. All of the drinks were crafted perfectly and hit the spot. For food, we ordered a 3 shrimp taco meal, breakfast enchiladas, the steak rancheros, order of the empanadas, ceviche and guacamole. They brought out all appetizers first before the food and gave us ample time to eat and enjoy before rushing more food to the table. The decently sized pork filled empanadas were delicious; not enough to fill you but you finish wanting more. The ceviche was fresh and had an adequate amount of shrimp in it. The guac was done correctly and was made fresh by the taste of it. We just knew The entrees were going to be amazing following the appetizers prior and the kitchen did not disappoint us. My steak was cooked perfectly. Tip if you select the steak rancheros dish, they have a tomato onion sauce that comes with. I chose to have it on the side and that was a good choice. The tomato sauce tasted like tomato soup and it was a no for me. I felt like it would've ruined the meal as it didn't mesh well with the other ingredients on the plate. I've seen others reviews regarding the size of the tacos and the filling. Fortunately for us we didn't experience that. Our tacos were big and filled to perfection. They didn't cheat us with that. I will say the tacos per each is a bit on the pricey side starting at $3.75+ per taco. I definitely recommend this restaurant for all events and functions and group sizes. This could be an intimate setting or time to catch up with your friends. I'll be returning to try other drinks and food options.

Yelp
Solid meal, generous potions, lots of choices including a number of hearty vegetarian options. Standard fare. We ordered about $130 in take-out and everyone really liked their meals. Good value, friendly service. I have eaten here once as well as it was a lovely experience.

Yelp
The first time we ordered from Mexican Republic was actually for catering for my husband's birthday. Everything was warm when I picked it up. The catering trays were so generous and they were a great deal too. The salsas here are phenomenal. The habanero salsa is a must-try if you really love spicy salsas. It's so good that you want more but the spice lingers and builds. I ordered three tacos when I dined in. I loved the grilled shrimp one. The fish taco came in second. I got the asada as well, which was also very good. We shared the shrimp ceviche. I loved that it was more minced so you could really get all the flavors. They had an option for a margarita flight - you could pick 4 margaritas. I thought it was a great deal. My favorite that I selected from was the cucumber jalapeño. It was very refreshing with a bit of spice. The restaurant has a front section and a back section. We opted to sit in the back. It was very spacious! I think they do a patio in the warmer months, so that'll be something to look forward to.

Yelp
So it was my birthday, beautiful night. stopped in this restaurant was seated, given chips and water. and yes that was it! waiters were walking past , No one asked if we order? Waited 25 minutes decided to leave . Very weird place not sure what was going on. Will Never return.

Yelp
I love this place, it's consistently good. The green chilaquiles and Chile relleno are my favorites. The tortillas are fresh, rice and beans are perfect and the service is great.

Yelp
Do not come here for brunch, or at all really. I came in with a group of 5 for brunch this morning and we had a terrible experience beginning with rude service, incorrect orders, the staff trying to cheat us on the 1 hour limit for mimosas, and being charged higher prices than what was on the menu. I didn't realize that there's automatically a 20% gratuity charge for 5 or more people, which is really disappointing considering our waitress was rude from the very beginning. She didn't calm down until our food came out and 2 orders were wrong and had to be sent back. However, only one order was remade while the other was just stuffed with extra ingredients and brought right back out. Also the order that was remade was brought out when the rest of us were done eating which could've been avoided had it been made correctly in the first place. This is on top of one order that added chicken which tasted like tilapia. We also asked for the bottomless mimosas which were listed at a one hour limit. However, the manager himself was trying to cheat us on the last 10 minutes of that hour. When we asked for the last round, he claimed we were over by one minute but we didn't receive any drinks until 20 minutes after we ordered so we were confused as to when the hour started. Then on top of the $40 tip that wasn't deserved, I noticed on the receipt that we were being charged more than the prices listed on the menu for several items. I had to go back and forth with the manager for a few minutes who said that the menu wasn't updated and that he would fix the price differences (but he didn't). Considering all of the inconveniences, I asked if there was anything else he could do and I was given a mere 10% off the bill. I really should have suggested more but I was so annoyed by the lack of awareness and consideration that I just wanted to leave. Needless to say, the service here is terrible and some of the food is questionable. Save your money and support a better establishment.

Yelp
This is some of the worst food I've ever had. No exaggeration. It tasted spoiled, was cold, just awful. Woke up with a stomach ache the next morning. My daughter barely touched hers. We used to go to this place a couple of years ago. I asked them what changed, and they said management/ownership. You can definitely tell it's just someone trying to make a buck, and doesn't care about the quality of the food. We will NEVER return. Would give it 0 stars if I could. Highly recommend not going here.

Yelp
Went for dinner for taco Tuesday. It was packed outside for dining so ate inside. We were helped quickly with water and good chips and salsa. I was glad to see keto items on the menu so with that I am sold. This includes deserts. I ordered a chicken taco and burrito bowl with Mexican cauliflower rice. Also got a virgin frozen strawberry daiquiri. It took some time from the chips and salsa to order so ordered drinks and meal at the same time. I did want to save room for dessert. The food was extremely tasty. I didn't even finish the entire bowl and was able to take some home. I had to pack up my taco as well. I really wanted to try this keto tres leches so ordered that. It was really good. I will be back because of the menu and taste of food alone. The service was a little slow and I wasn't sure if it was a staffing issue vs just a service issue. I think she was just all over. The experience was good overall and everyone friendly.

Yelp
Just not good at all. Look how small the tacos were. And the beans and rice Taco Bell has better. Taco Bell is better

Yelp
This spot is such a great addition to Madison in Forest Park, which is booming since Oak Park is filled with construction. I've discovered lots of great local places while staying at home and love this restaurant (and its name). My GrubHub order was actually delivered early and the restaurant order was perfect (except for the unnecessary styrofoam). The best thing I can say is that they use cheese divinely. I had a panela taco and the protein base is sautéed, fried cheese. Combined with the guacamole, pickled onions, and double tortilla, one taco was heaven. I also loved the copious cheese on the plátanos maduros, which made a simple sweet dessert even more decadent. Lastly, my dad loved his taquitos and we both really enjoyed the shrimp empanadas. Can't wait to order more food and explore the menu!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. My first time here and I was impressed. Good service, food and atmosphere. At first I wasn't sure if this was a good choice. I was seated upon entering but it took someone about 15 minutes to come to the table. The staff was all standing around the bar station talking. Finally, someone came over to the table with a glass of water and a bowl of fresh hot chips with salsa. I immediately place my order a small bowl of tortilla soup, tamale de pollo and a raspberry margarita. Everything was freshly made and delicious. My server was very nice and made sure I was happy with my food/margarita. There is a nice outside spacious patio. Menu has a variety of different dishes and drinks. I look forward to coming back for Happy Hour!!!!

Yelp
I was driving out if Forest Park yesterday (09/29/19) & needed to grab a quick bite to eat. Instead of going to a fast food restaurant I popped into Mexican Republic Kitchen on Madison Street for a few tacos. I ordered 3 tacos to go. 1 carne asada, 1 al pastor w/pineapple & 1 chorizo. The tacos were ok, but nothing remarkable that would want to make me go back again. The carne asada was pretty good, the carne asada w/pineapple was ok. The pineapple added a little sweetness to the pork. I normally like chorizo, but this was so salty I couldn't finish it. Nice restaurant w/a very helpful & polite hostess, but the food was very mediocre.

Yelp
Finally got to eat in at Mexican Republic and it was as good as we'd hoped it would be. Tried the red sangria and it was very solid, not too sweet. The chips and salsa don't last here because the salsa was still warm, it was so fresh and delicious. Tried the poblano cream chicken, which was also very good, and it came with a corn tamale side which was very tasty. My daughter tried some unusual tacos - a grilled zucchini and a roasted cauliflower. She will order cauliflower again.

Yelp
I'm surprised that I have never posted a review on one of my very favorite Mexican restaurants. It certainly helps that I only live down the block, but when I compare other Mexican, I have been to the Mexican Republic, is definitely the best! I have had the pleasure to dine at this establishment many times, and I have never been disappointed. The staff are extremely pleasant and professional. The food and service is outstanding. My friend and I would be considered regulars. We have tried pretty much everything on the menu, but because I'm always trying to watch my carbs. I order the keto or low-carb burrito or taco bowls. I have been to many different Mexican restaurants, and the Mexican Republic is the only one who offers this to their customers. It is outstanding. I live the ambiance, beautiful, colorful interior and exterior. And if the weather permits, you can eat on their front enclosed patio. I highly recommend Mexican Republic to everyone who is looking for not only delicious but traditional Mexican food.

Yelp
THE BEST! The first time I went with my boyfriend and it was the best service we had ever received. The waiters are incredibly helpful. The owner even came out to say hi and I felt like I was at home. The shrimp tacos are absolutely amazing!!! But my FAVORITE menu item-- the churros. I make the drive sometimes just for the churros. Also, I highly recommend the margaritas. Such a great place to go to for any occasion. Or even no occasion. Menu also has gluten free options. I'm on my way as I speak. I'll see y'all there.

Yelp
The tacos here are amazing! The atmosphere is fun and inviting with outdoor seating. I ordered: Panela Taco: sautéed panela cheese with guac and roasted tomato sauce. This one was pretty good but my least favorite of the three. Picadillo Taco: ground beef with potato and carrots. This one is my FAVORITE!! It is the tastiest taco I've ever had and next time I'll get three of these. Calabazitas taco: grilled zucchini and corn with queso and sour cream. Really good! Traditional margarita: served in a cute mason jar cup. Sweet but good!

Italia L.

Yelp
The food was no flavor, and the drinks tasted like Fossett water and not only that the service was not quick enough and after me and nine others that I came with got through eating, we all were sick on the way home, and I literally ended up with explosive diarrhea. I will never recommend this place, and whoever says this place is good is full of shit and they're setting people up

Tarsk K.

Yelp
Good tacos. Great guac. Great margaritas. Wish they would use more sustainable take-out containers!

Yelp
I Love this place drinks & tacos are the bomb Awww & brunch is most definitely worth a try

Yelp
The food, service, and atmosphere are amazing! It's a pretty big restaurant, so we were able to get a table without a reservation. The service was so efficient and kind. I think I had the nicest waitress I've ever had in my entire life here! The food was delicious. I highly recommend this place for anyone.

Yelp
Walked in at 8:33pm tonight only to be turned away because they were "closed." I asked I thought they're open until 9 (like their website and Yelp says) to which the hostess stuttered and said "only for today." Ok.

Yelp
If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't. We visited on Friday night during the Forest Park music fest and really regretted choosing Axcan's replacement when there were many other proven winners within a short walk of this establishment. Mojitos and Margaritas by the glass ($8-$9) Are a total rip-off. The drinks are advertised as 9 to 16 ounces. They are AT BEST 5 or 6 ounces after the mason like jar glass is filled to the rim with ice. Add to that, it made for an extremely watered down cocktail. My suggestion is order a pitcher or request no ice/ice on the side. Of the food items we ordered, the tamale and Mexican corn were the most memorable. The chips and salsa were also tasty. Mexican Corn - $4 3/5 stars; good flavor but the corn was over cooked. Pastor Sope - $4.50 each 1/5 stars; do not order this. Tinga Quesadillas - $9 2/5 stars; appeared to be soft tacos; the beans and rice were pretty bad. Pollo Crema - 2/5 stars; while the presentation was great, the flavor was not. The tamale was the best part of the entree Service at our 10pm seating was extremely slow despite the small crowd. We laughed when our server wrote down our order but returned to ask about a protein choice for one of them more than 15 minutes later. We ordered the Mexican corn and sope to start But before receiving the entrées, our waiter came over to say last call for drinks. We found it frustrating and funny. If I were quick on my feet, I would've requested the other half of the 3 drinks they kept by stuffing the mason jar with ice! With several good Mexican restaurant options in this area, a little bit of a revamp in the kitchen is MH's best option if it wants to keep business.

Yelp
It has been a month and we still talk about our bad experience. It was Mother's Day! It will be the first and last time we visit this restaurant. -Some waitresses where rude. It took them a long time to take care of us. Our rude waitress changed with a different one, She was great. -Made reservations to eat brunch-manager decided not to serve brunch anymore, but then said it was fine but it will take longer. -2 menus for 10 people. Really!! - Bad service, we had to keep asking for stuff. -The food was not good and some cold. The steak was super small compared to other places. One was over cooked. Burned!! -Manager did not come to our table to confront the bad service. Until we got him by surprise in our area. -Worst part was that the first waitress that was going to take care of us will pass by our table and shake her head, will talk to other co- workers and shake her head. This was so uncomfortable. We asked her if something was wrong and she came straight to my daughter wanting to fight her. Relative of hers came to her defense. She was grabbEd and taken away. It was a big scene. -Manager couldn't handle the situation. -We got a discount off our receipt, what did that do? Nothing!! We where there to celebrate and to have a good time. Money/Discount can't replace it. -Second waitress was nice, kind, respectful and did her best.

Yelp
It's hard for me to find a Mexican restaurant that I love. It's top priority but there's a lot I demand: Excellent margaritas- yep, got it Excellent food - food is good enough Ambiance-amazing, tho sometimes the music is too loud But it's the salsa that brings us in. The salsa. Sounds so silly but it's the best thing ever. Last time we were there we were so happy to be back. Prepared to have dinner and several margaritas for both of us, we were super pumped. Long story short, we asked for more chips and learned they are now charging $2 for extra chips. That's the best way I know to lose business. But they have now. I'm sad to leave but when I'm dropping a lot to be there don't nickel and dime us. Now we have to start over and find a new one.

Yelp
I truly don't understand the hype. The food here is ATROCIOUS. Maybe they're trying to cater to American palettes? The only reason they received 2 stars is because of the top notch service and ambiance. The Horchata was so cloyingly sweet I had to water it down. Their salsa was unusual: dark and sour. I asked for a small queso dip and received Taco Bell nacho cheese. No lie. Maybe I ordered badly, but I ordered the mole trio and it was almost inedible. The chicken inside was hard and dry. I'll stick with Maria's - their prices may have gone up...but at least they are tasty and consistent.

raquel l.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place, yet so disappointed with the food. Idk if all the reviews are drunken people leaving the bars, but the food was not good at all. The steak wasn't seasoned. Carnitas were shreds of meat left over, which tasted like oil left in the pan. Disgusting that they would serve that as a meal. The sangria was good. But never again

Rob S.

Yelp
Just an ok experience here. The food was fine but nothing special. The one stand-out was the fresh chips & salsa. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to find better Mexican food nearby, and certainly most places in Pilsen will outshine Mexican Republic. Service was fine, very friendly and attentive. But the decor & furniture look like they're overdue for an overhaul. Just very dated and drab.

Yelp
Fresh. Hand-made. Tortillas. These tortillas alone are worthy of a 5 star review. They are surely blessed by the hands of someone's Abuelita with lots of love! Besides the best tortillas I've ever had in my life their taco meats are incredible. I love the pastor and the picadillo but all of them are delicious it's really just a matter of preference. Also, they have a lot of amazing gluten free options including a tree leches cake that I can't wait to try next time I'm there.

Yelp
Tried this place as I heard their mole was pretty good and I'm a mole kinda guy from way back. Visited on a Friday afternoon between lunch and dinner, so it wasn't an overly busy time. Got some salsa and chips - I'm a big fan of roasted, smoky salsas and this salsa was exactly that. Unfortunately, they serve in in a form over function kinda dish, so when you get toward the end, it's tougher to get the salsa on the chip. Tortilla soup was pretty decent - served in a bowl on a tin pan. Decent flavor overall. I also ordered a frozen margarita. Kudos for making it in a blender and not a slurpy machine! Another somewhat puzzling way to serve it though - in one of those Ball Container type mugs; kind of odd. But it did taste pretty good. Finally, I ordered the Enchiladas con Mole Coloradito. The mole was good but I have had better. Overall my experience was better than average and with a few unique dished on the menu, I'll likely return.

Yelp
Went here for lunch last week- very delicious margaritas, chips & salsa, nachos, & tacos. (My friend & I tried all of these) My only gripe is that they didn't really have any lunch specials... or smaller portions. So our bill was $50 for lunch. I'll be going back but most likely only for dinner!

Yelp
This was a great spot to have lunch! We had some delicious margaritas, tacos, & fajitas! The wait staff was really friendly and they had a great atmosphere.

Yelp
Worst experience ever at a restaurant! Went in there because we heard very good reviews, but unfortunately that was not our experience. Please don't support this business! Went in there around 5:00pm yesterday to celebrate early Mother's Day since we figured Sunday would be busy everywhere and received the worst customer service I've ever experienced anywhere else. Instead of being greeted, we were asked rudely if we had reservations which we said no and didn't understand given that they only had like 3 customers at the time and the entire restaurant was empty. I came in there with my family of 6 including a child and requested if we can sit in their patio section and the waitress rudely said "No". We were confused as to why we couldn't sit outside when their website clearly says patio section is for first come first serve and the restaurant at the time was pretty empty. When we asked why all they said was we we can't sit you guys all together. We then said it's okay we can sit in two separate tables that's not an issue and her response was we can't do split checks!!! Our response was we didn't ask for split checks we're okay with paying under the same bill. She kept saying No and said we can sit you all the way in the back of restaurant which we refused because clearly our first impression of this restaurant was horrible and we didn't feel comfortable supporting a business who was not kind to us or offered any other alternatives or wasn't kind enough to apologize to us. After walking out of their restaurant, a customer of theirs that was sitting in the patio section asked us why we were leaving and we told him why and he was shocked and offered us an alternative restaurant in the same block with great customer service, margaritas and delicious food! Please go support Chirrion Mexican Grill in the same street. To our surprise after finishing our dinner at the other restaurant we had to walk past Mexican Republic Kitchen to our parked car and what do you expect they had a group of 6 sitting in their patio section with the tables put together after we were told they weren't allowed to do by the manager of this restaurant. Please don't support businesses that aren't kind and have rude waitresses and have poor customer service!

Yelp
Best Baja fish tacos around! Huge menu but I keep ordering these every time I go back.

Yelp
My favorite local Mexican restaurant. Lots of seating available, I recommend their tacos, guacamole, margaritas and churros!

Yelp
I have made the trip here several times. The food does NOT disappoint, although I do wish they had a taco & enchilada combination. Friendly staff and casual environment. I will definitely return!

Too salty. Everything we ordered was very salty. Tortilla soup was okay. Didn't have much stuff and was very watery. Tacos didn't have much flavour. Will not recommend this place.

Yelp
Great little Mexican restaurant. Nice outdoor seating space along with a big dinning room.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! I tend to order delivery from here a lot but the dine-in experience is great as well. The margaritas are strong and the food is flavorful. This is my go-to spot for Mexican food in the neighborhood.

Yelp
the tacos were dry! Not sure if they were rushing but it was not good at all, will not be returning for food, drinks were ok

Yelp
Disregard any of the negative reviews you see on here this is some of the best food in the region. If these people were super rude to me I would still go back because it's just that good.

Yelp
This place is by far one of my favorites for mexican food and i dont live anywhere close by. I recommend coming on a weekend for brunch because their chilaquiles are awesome. i got mine with steak and its easily enough for two people. my wife ordered the carnitas tacos and cauliflower rice which is the tastiest cauliflower rice ive ever come across. this place has super friendly staff, a nice little patio that faces Madison Street, and a huge indoor space to accommodate large parties. both their drink menu and food menu are huge. they have a large gluten free menu too. love this place.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Mexican food. Always great service and delicious food! Always consistent in speed and food quality. Customer service is on point. Annndddd they have a $5 happy hour for margaritas. (I forget what time and days exactly as I've went on multiple occasions). If you love spice, you'll love the jalapeño pepino margarita.....I crave this margarita!!! Also, I've never had quesadillas with a corn tortilla but they have won me over. Shrimp tacos are also delicious but you could put pickled onions on anything and I would be in love. Salsa and guacamole are also so consistent and delicious as I personally enjoy cantina style salsa.

Yelp
Oh no! After having delicious delivered meals from Mexican Republic, my wife and I made it to an on-site outdoor dining experience there. Her meal was "ok." I ordered the same enchilada dinner that I've had delivered on numerous occasions. Oh my gosh, it tasted like the chef poured a bucket of salt on it. My wife concurred. Inedible. I was comped for the entree but how can I ever again trust a delivery? Sad and disappointed.

Yelp
The service was so bad, but they still add a gratuity on. Terrible food and the place is filthy. I would make sure you stay away, just awful. I had to give it a star to post the review, but it doesn't even deserve one star. Just bad service and filthy.

Yelp
Mexican republic is definitely one of our go to spots! There food is always fresh and very tasty. I had my daughters birthday party here and everything we ordered was awesomely delicious. We now go back regularly for the nachos, shrimp tacos, and the corn tamales! You're welcome.

Yelp
I've been a loyal customer of this place since it opened. Yesterday my order was burned I discovered when I got it home. I called a couple of times but no one answered I ate 1 of the Tostadas, I returned with the 2nd because it was just too bad. The waitress who said she was new told me they're food is pre-prepared or prepared off site and that they could offer me something other than what I'd ordered, minus the cost of one of the tostadas. Today I returned to explained my position, one owner told me he checked the food himself and that it was perfect. He said I was lying and that I was just trying to get over on them despite the fact I've/patronized the place dozens of times since their opening. Customer service means nothing to these people!

Yelp
I have to give this place a lot of credit - It is a cute design (lots of bright colors) and has an outdoor patio with a cover which is perfect when it's not perfect outside. The margaritas are wonderful. I had a raspberry and a mango one. *note: They are generous with the tequila in the margaritas, meaning I've just become a loyal customer. The service was fast and friendly. Also upon being seated we received warm chips that were delicious. I could have eaten them on their own with salsa. The price is also right. I'm a big fan, I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Loved this place. The app w chicken breast in a Chipotle cream sauce was supremely decadent and a must if on the specials menu. Asada was wonderfully seasoned/flavorful but just a tad overcooked. All said, I would def be back if in the area
