"It’s not on the rooftop of the building, but it is on the rooftop of the restaurant — the wraparound patio at Mexican Sugar is beautifully designed and has enough shade to protect diners during the harsh, sunny summer days. It’s got a cantina feel and is a wonderful spot to sit and sip margaritas." - Courtney E. Smith, Amy McCarthy

Brunch! Really really great food, so many great menu options. Got the hamburger which was cheaper than most items but came with a lot of great ingredients, very tasty, big portion. Sopes were surprising, sope was fried and had a nice crunch to it. Pork was deeply flavorful and slaw balanced it well. Definitely a highlight. Mimosa flight was cute and tasty as well. Service was a bit slow. Love love loved the interior design, very homey. Would definitely dine in again.

John was amazing! We loved the food and the views were great on the rooftop. We came to Dallas for a concert and came to Mexican sugar for the food and great reviews. We both had the shrimp tacos with elote & the flight of mimosas. It was Soooo yum and filling! The chicken tortilla soup was also so good! The restaurant was not only beautiful and aesthetically pleasing but the food was to die for.

My friend and I decided to try out Mexican Sugar and we came on a Sunday (they serve brunch on weekends). You’re able to park in the parking garage for free (as long as you get your ticket verified through the restaurant), valet was $15. The restaurant is nicely designed and we were seated on the bottom level. I can say it was a little warm in the restaurant but the weather has been overly hot lately. The customer service was a little lackluster as we had to ask for tableware, napkins, and straws (multiple times before we got it). The service remained the same throughout. I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and enjoyed it! The drink was made nicely and hit the spot. For my food, I ordered the chicken enchiladas and it came with rice, beans. The enchiladas were good and tasted like your standard enchilada dish. I also ordered the guacamole + chips and it was just ok. Seemed to have too much lime and was a little too mushy for me. The salsa came out hot along with chips and we enjoyed that! Overall, I would return as I liked the ambience and drinks. Would like to try more of their drinks for sure!

Had a reservation at 7:15 and was sooooo late but still managed to be accommodated and got 2 seats at the bar where we met Carlos! The machete margarita is probably the best margarita me and my girlfriend have had. I also had the tuna crudo which I would come back for tomorrow if I could, it was so good and fresh. Service was a 10/10 and Carlos was quick with the food and drinks never missed a beat.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday last week at this location! Our server John was fast and attentive! The food was amazing and the sangria swirl margarita was the perfect way to end the week! The shrimp tacos and the black beans are the best!! The entire staff was so friendly and made the birthday celebration super special!! The low quality photos don’t do this place justice 💜💛

Yelp
Mexican Sugar has been our go-to place for brunch, and we even hosted a party of 10 here before our wedding. The food is always delicious, and the ambiance is perfect for any occasion. John, our server, was amazing and made our experience memorable. However, during our recent visit, we encountered an issue with the service at the front desk. The young lady in the white shirt had a very unprofessional attitude. When we first arrived, she was on her phone and didn't acknowledge us. Later, when we needed our parking ticket validated, there was a mishap, and we had to return to the restaurant. She rolled her eyes and proceeded to stare at us as if she didn't even notice us, despite having validated our ticket just a few minutes prior. This was quite rude. Thankfully, another very nice lady stepped in and validated our ticket. This is the second time we've experienced poor service from the same front desk staff member. We hope the management addresses this issue, as it detracts from the otherwise excellent experience at Mexican Sugar.

Yelp
Came here to make flower crowns for Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) and I had an enjoyable time. We made one of their cocktails La Catrina which was delicious! The flower crowns came out amazing and I'm glad to have it added to my personal altar! I decided to stay for dinner and ordered guacamole and hibiscus margarita. The margarita was delicious but the guacamole seemed to be premade with too much lime. I would totally recommend the salmon for your entree as it was amazing! It is served with a tomatillo cumin sauce, asparagus, and grilled mushrooms. Overall, I had a great Halloween here and will definitely return for the drinks and salmon dish!

Yelp
Reservation for 4 @8:15 September 2024 Location: Uptown!!! Bustling with walkers, different restaurants, and vibes. Parking: you could get valet (paid, I believe) or opt for validated garage parking. Keep up with your tickets. 3 hours & under= free. Try to park close to the elevators. Parking validation When leaving, get your ticket validated. The host downstairs will do this. When exiting, scan the ticket and you can drive out. I believe there are 3 different barcodes on the ticket. Maybe you need to scan a certain one?? I wasn't informed. I scanned mine a few times, and it registered as a $25 fee. Absolutely not. I called from the speaker box and she verified with me how long I had been parked (under 3hrs) and told me to rescan. Then it let me out. That was frustrating-- Vicinity: Starbucks, Leela's (wine flatbreads), Del Frisco etc are all in the same lot. You can walk to all of them. Rooftop : We reserved the rooftop. It was a little hot up there but we acclimated well. It was dark outside, so she ended up using her cell phone light. There was a small light at our table. Bathrooms were clean. Areas were clean. There's a bar upstairs. Elevator down to the first floor. Service was decent- he was apologetic about the wait. It was busy. Food - eh it was ok. Appetizers : Queso- re-orderable. $9.50, I believe Salsa- wouldn't have to have again. There was a hair in it. We just sat it to the side. (Complimentary with meal) Lobster fundido - she said she liked it. Comes with tortillas..... she used the chips for it eventually. $20 Entrees: I ordered the fried shrimp elote tacos. It comes with rice and beans. Corn tortillas, but they weren't good so I scraped the meat out. 2.5/5. Wouldn't reorder. She ordered chicken fajitas $18? They weren't the sizzling kind - just on a regular plate. That was a little different. The chicken was good. Drinks: She ordered a virgin flight. I'm unsure of the cost for it since there was no alcohol but she said it was good. Mango was her favorite. Next time: 1) we would sit downstairs inside. 2) I would still order the queso but try a different entree. Or just go here for drinks and eat elsewhere. 3) I would get my ticket validated when I checked in at the host station if possible instead of waiting for it at the end.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL date spot in downtown Dallas! 4/5 Food! The fajita plate came out beautifully, very tasty. Note that it doesnt come out on a "sizzling" platter like other restaurants that serve fajitas, but still good! Shrimp taco plate was also pleasing. I have to say that mexican sugar serves some of the BEST corn tortillas 5/5 service, good staff, friendly, food came out timely 5/5 Ambiance, beautiful decor, can seat large parties, lots of TVs and natural lighting. Good for booking events Will be back!

Emily N.

Yelp
John was an amazing server who gave us great recommendations. The shrimp tacos were A1 and the drinks were scrumptious. I overall would come back for vibes, service, and food!

Yelp
My mother and I were really excited to try this place. When we walked in the hostesses seemed unwelcoming and off putting. We were sat and ordered drinks and food. There were so many waiters around but seemed like we could never get service. Food was good but the atmosphere was not.

Jocy R.

Yelp
We had brunch at Mexican Sugar in Uptown Dallas and it was AMAZING! The ambiance was so cute and the service was nice! We enjoyed the lobster queso fundido as an appetizer and it was really good paired with the house made tortillas! As an entree I enjoyed the bass ceviche while my mother in law enjoyed the hamburger with eggs, and my sister in law enjoyed the ranchero eggs benedict! All of which were amazing!!!! The star of the show was the French toast!!! Coated with whip cream and fresh fruit! It was the perfect way to end our meal! We did get the 36$ pitcher of mimosas to share and it served 3 people approx 2 drinks each which was great! The presentation was also very cute!! Overall a great experience and will be going back to try out the dinner!

Mackenzie S.

Yelp
I was here with some friends to start off my birthday weekend!! Great ambience. We had drinks at the upstairs bar which were all good. The La Catrina was my favorite. I ordered the bone-in pork chop and it was sooo flipping good! Hands down the best I've had at a restaurant!! I will be back for the lobster ravioli and more drinks :) They validate garage parking.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Wow! This place was great for lunch with very beautiful interior. I loved everything. The vibe, the margaritas, the aesthetic, the food! We were lucky enough to grab a drink at the bar while waiting for our reservation. I can appreciate a true full service experience. See below for my review on what matters. Margaritas: just pick one, anyone. They're all wonderful and strong. This was the group consensus. ;) Food: can't go wrong with enchiladas or fajitas. Knock 1/2 star because my taco tortillas fell apart while trying to consume. .. ended up eating them with a fork because I'm classy lady. We all enjoyed the flavors, not too rich but indeed seasoned. Free chips and salsa!

Yelp
Service was amazing, we came with a large group and they accommodated us quick. Mario our server greeted us efficiently and dropped waters within two minutes of seating (we were outside so it was pretty hot.) In addition, the manager was on it with refilling the portable fans with ice so we could enjoy nice cool air. Five stars for service* Drinks are yummy, my favorite was the machete margarita (watermelon, cucumber, and mint). It was so refreshing for a hot summer day. - if you like margaritas this is definitely the place to come. My other half and I ordered a bunch of dishes to try multiple things and I was semi disappointed with the dish I ordered (Marisco Veracruz) because I was expecting more. For a $36 dish you get a small piece of fish and 2 scallops accompanied by lots of avocado in a mild spicy tomato sauce. Besides that everything else was pretty reasonable. Skirt steak was yummy and the side of grilled shrimp was packed with flavor. I'll definitely be back for their margaritas and grilled shrimp if I'm ever in town again.

Yelp
I wish this incredible Mexican spot had a location in Denver, which is already known for its stellar Mexican food scene. The ambience here is truly top-notch; the moment you step in, it feels like you've been transported to a high-class resort. The outdoor rooftop patio at their Uptown location is hands down one of the best I've ever experienced. Special shoutout to bartender Jen! We were there for a work mixer, and she went above and beyond to keep everyone happy and our drinks flowing. She's got that rare personality where you wish she could just hang out with you the whole time! I ordered a Mezcal Old Fashioned, and it was one of the best drinks I've ever had--Jen knew exactly what she was doing. For appetizers, we ordered a variety, but the Tuna Crudo and Sopes were the stars. The tuna was incredibly fresh, and the mix of sweet mango with spicy chile was the perfect balance. The sopes, with their crispy yet soft masa cakes and tender, flavorful slow-cooked pork, packed a bit of heat that was tamed beautifully by the avocado crema. The marinated shrimp were another standout, especially if you're looking for something light and healthy. The guacamole was fresh, and the thin, crispy chips were perfect with the smooth, slightly spicy salsa that I couldn't stop eating. The Lobster Fundito had a good chunk of lobster but sadly lacked flavor, and the Striped Bass Ceviche, though fresh, didn't wow me either. Unfortunately, the Lobster Enchiladas were the biggest letdown. I expected a traditional enchilada covered in a rich sauce, but it tasted like they poured queso fundito over the tortillas, and the combination just didn't work for me. That said, the atmosphere, service, and many of the dishes still make this one of my all-time favorite spots. I only wish they had one in Denver!

Raj B.

Yelp
We came in with a party of three and had an average experience. We ordered the nonalcoholic refreshing drink with coconut water and pineapple juice, and we were not very impressed with it. Subsequently, I ordered the combo chicken and steak fajitas and they were not very flavorful plus our waitress refused to give us one extra tortilla - the combo only came with three tortillas. The veggie tacos were not too bad though. I guess the only positive experience was the valet parking - we didn't have to go hunt for parking in a very hot summer day.

Andrew H.

Yelp
The view and dining experience is amazing! I loved the decorations and how fancy and nice this restaurant is. There is validation parking up to 3 free hours of parking, just make sure you get your waiter to verify the ticket. The food was delicious and super filling. Their cocktail was amazing and I will definitely be returning. However, the napkin I had received was stained and dirty so I had to ask to get it replaced. Overall a great place!

Remy V.

Yelp
So we had a reservation, when we arrived we were seated immediately. I appreciate that very much! Our waiter was extremely nice, he did give us wrong information regarding the "build your own flight" margaritas. You cannot build your own flight. You can only choose from the 3 margaritas that are in the Margarita flight, you cannot get any others. I ordered carne asada tacos and they brought out carnitas. My husband ordered French toast and they brought out 2 pancakes. I'm unsure how they messed that up but we kindly told them that the order was incorrect and shortly after they brought out the correct food. I was not a big fan of the hibiscus margarita but the other 2 were good. The carne asada tacos were dry so I asked for a habanero salsa on the side and it was good. He didn't mention the salsa was $3 extra but we didn't make a stink about it. My roommate is vegan and she got the huevos rancheros and there was a piece of carne asada in it. She "accidentally" ate it because she didn't realize it was in there. This was disappointing. For people who live a strict dietary lifestyle or even for someone who has allergies they should be more mindful. This location is nicer than the Las Colinas location, it appears it is spacier too. Overall the ambiance was very nice. I would come back but I'd order something else.

Konnori B.

Yelp
We came for a birthday dinner recently, and it was my first time coming to this location. I didn't remember my first experience too well, so essentially I started over. This place is huge like the Las Colinas location and has two floors (we were on floor 2), and it is beautiful inside. I started off with a drink which was really good. It was a nice balance of sweet and strong, not to mention fruity like I like it. The same applied to the other drink. We were not very hungry, so we split lobster enchiladas with beans and rice. I've never had this before, but wow was it great! The queso and lobster, which was pretty tender, went really well together, and I was glad to see they didn't stuff the enchiladas with lobster. Otherwise, it could have been overkill. The beans and rice were really good as well. What I will say, however, is that I found it odd that they do not have the right equipment (aka an oven I believe) to make cheese enchiladas (which I would have ordered) because the cheese cannot melt properly. This is not really the best place for a vegetarian dinner which is what I was getting at. Also, I feel like where I was sitting at the table was annoying because my chair kept getting hit literally every 2-3 minutes. Not really a fault of the servers but more so the restaurant for not putting enough space for servers to squeeze through during busy hours aka a Saturday evening. Our server was really nice and attentive despite the noise level. She recommended the drinks to me and knew what I liked (sweet and strong). Overall, while I do wish there were more vegetarian options, I think I will return because the food and drinks were good enough to come back.

Carissa L.

Yelp
Honestly, if you want THE BEST service and drinks, make sure you ask for Jen! She was the coolest bartender around and made me a great drink!! This was my first time at the uptown location and it was sooo dope. We sat on the second level and it was really nice up there. The weather was perfect so they had the big window open to give it an indoor/outdoor feel. I got the steak enchiladas and they were really good. The beans they came with didn't have a ton of flavor but they were cool. The rice was solid. Overall, it was about a 4.2/5 experience

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on Easter Sunday morning around 10:30 AM. We self parked in the garage. They open at 10 AM on Sundays, so not many people were seated already. We were seated right away and our server greeted us right away. They have coat/purse hangers available for the table. Table chips & Salsa - Chips have a nice thickness to them - not too thick & not too thin. Salsa is served warm interestingly - flavor is very subtle, but there is a hint of spice to it. Not sure how I feel about the warm salsa. Mimosa - Standard mimosa. Fair strength. Horchata - Cane with a compostable straw! Nice subtle flavor - not too sweet. Benedicto Rancheros - Breakfast potatoes smell good, but have little flavor & soggy - not crispy at all. I don't quite understand how they got so soggy - it was like they were soaked in water for several days, possibly boiled, then air fried, then sat somewhere for a while. (I've soaked potatoes in water overnight & they don't turn out this soggy.) Also, bland - I had to get ketchup to make it edible. Meat has an evident char, but not much flavor. Egg is overdone in my opinion - Sunny side up medium hard. Masa cakes were quite small - like the size of half dollars, & had a gritty texture. Combo Fajitas - Cilantro Lime Rice has a zesty nice flavor. Guac was standard. Beef is cooked well - still tender and juicy. Shrimp was overdone - very firm. Fajita veggies were overdone - very limp & mushy. Black beads were standard - maybe kind of watery. Overall, we were pretty disappointed by this experience. We've been to the Mexican Sugar in Los Colinas & remember everything was amazing, but this experience was very lack luster. While our water was refilled, the salsa was empty & never refilled. Based on this experience, I would not come back & I would not recommend.

Juanita W.

Yelp
Everything! First being seen and greeted unbeknownst to us by the bar manager that recommended to receive happy hour prices we must order from the bar. Jen took such good care of us, making sure our waters stayed refilled so we stayed hydrated. The Brasas Chicken Tacos, Cilantro Lime Rice has a little spice not too much to give it a great flavor. The Black Beans were perfectly seasoned and cooked well. The Shrimp Avocado & Lime, Carne Asada Tacos could not try as I am too full so I will take it home. I love the music! Very clean including the bathroom. Ambiance top notch! Two floors. love that you can be indoor or outdoor on spacious patio that gives great view of the skyline. I will definitely be back!!!

Laura V.

Yelp
The aesthetic of this place is stunning! I came here for my birthday brunch on a Tuesday, not much movement but came for the drinks & small sopes (by the way delicious!) Our waiter was very attentive. Just wished we were able to sit upstairs but it's only open during dinner. Will come back for the drinks & vibe.

Chrissy P.

Yelp
So far so good! I'm making this review as I sit at the bar, with my lovely bartender/waitress justice! We started off with chips queso and two classic margaritas, which are poured from the tap, and let me tell you... they are strong as hell! ‍ even my bf who's a drinker agreed! Next was the food we had a whole fried snapper and barria ribs! Service was immaculate we had fun and can't wait to come back!

Michael M.

Yelp
Service was incredible. It was fast and easy at the bar upstairs. It was such a lovely space and all the staff was so friendly. Food was incredible. I ordered the Mesquite Grilled Steak Enchiladas and La Catrina. The enchiladas were delicious and came with three enchiladas. They also had a side of rice and beans on the plate. The spice level was perfect and it did not leave any room for dessert. La Catrina was a Mezcal based drink and it was super refreshing. I will definitely return to try more of their food when I'm in town again.

Natalia J.

Yelp
All good things must come to an end I guess not sure if a busy Friday night made everyone angry or what? From the time we walked in the hostess was rude the wait for a 930pm reservation we weren't seated until 10:05pm and a waitress who asked "how we are doing" and when given a response of "not good we been waiting and hungry" jokingly & their reply was "sorry not my fault" instead of "let's make the night better and get you guys some food" I am honestly not even sure if I'll eat at this point with a kitchen closing at 11pm & these burnt chips I am currently staring at literally trying to figure out what's going on tonight? It's the fact I bought my family of 12 here for New Year's Day & everyone got their food except for me and I still was raving about them and giving excuses thinking maybe they had an off night as I never came with a large party before ... Well I most definitely will not be back .. so disappointing as this was our 8th visit here & 1 visit in Las Colinas. So disappointing like seriously disappointment as we travel from Red Oak to get here on top of that ; there's so many other places I have listed I could've went to on this lovely Friday night.

Karlee B.

Yelp
Our server Stephanie was amazing! She answered all our questions on the menu, was super attentive, and made sure that we always had full drinks. The patio atmosphere was also outstanding and the views were beautiful. Perfect patio weather!! The ribs were a great portion for a meal and we really enjoyed the chicken and carne asada tacos. The chocolate cake is served cold and is super decadent. Has such an elevated vibe, maybe even a little nicer than the Plano location. Would definitely come back!! Thank you so much :)

Naomi W.

Yelp
Omg the food here was absolutely amazing. I love the venue's decor and the service was out of this world. I definitely want to give a shout out to Carlos and Suki for taking care of us all night! I didn't take a picture of everything I ordered , but I managed to get a quick picture of the rice and beans. Delicious! We'll be back!

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Came here for Father's Day, our server was attentive and very helpful with a party of 8 and also mindful of the fish allergy at the table (recommended what she can and can't eat). Good variety and great brunch.

Susan C.

Yelp
First time visiting a Mexican Sugar location and I am amazed! It's so beautiful, everyone is so kind and introduced themselves. The upstairs is beautiful too!! Jeffrey and Chris have made me feel so welcomed! Chips and salsa are provided when arriving. I ordered the sopes which were incredible. For drinks I got the rojo sangria and La Catrina. Both delicious, the sangria is a little light but very refreshing. La Catrina is TOOO GOOD!! I'm very excited to return, I recommend!

Shavonne B.

Yelp
Came here on a late night date night with my boyfriend! The inside was sooo cute! It was a Tuesday night so it wasnt packed, but we sat at the bar just because we just wanted appetizers. They apparently have a really wide variety of tequila, we had gotten drinks at another restaurant before so we skipped out on drinks here but I will definitely be back to try out their different tequila! We asked the bartenders for their favorites from teh appetizer menu and they both mentioned the Birria Ribs and the Sopes so that's what we ordered. And OMGGG they were both soooo good! The Sopes were my favorite, I honestly wouldnt have gotten them on my own so I'm glad the bartenders suggested it! As far as the ribs they were so tender and the flavor was nice, light and sweet, it made me feel like I was on a beach lol. I will definitely be back for the drinks and the food! Everything was great, from even the service!

Chelsea R.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed dining here not too long ago! The location is a little tricky with parking but all good if you go on a day that isn't so crazy. I loved my ceviche and my friend seemed to enjoy the pork chop. The veggies they serve here are always crazy fresh and of course love the queso blanco. Their chips are thin and crispy and always served up hot. You will love their salsa too if you like it served warmed up with a kick. I have yet to try a lot of their dinner entrees but have a few items in mind for next time. But yeah if you are in the area this spot is a must to add to your love list. Great service as well and elegant vibe and atmosphere inside.

Sally M.

Yelp
We were so disappointed in Mexican Sugar! The food was not good, and not worth ordering. The margarita was watery and did not come after we ordered it 30 minutes earlier. We can only assume it was sitting at the bar and the ice melted? Tasteless. The service was a strong D+, even though the waiter tried to accommodate our party of 4. We will mark this restaurant chain off our list of Mexican restaurants.

Soudary K.

Yelp
Located in Dallas trendy uptown area. The prettiest Latin Restaurant. Great atmosphere with outdoor seating. Great food and service. Fabulous cocktails. One of the more reasonable restaurants in the area. Highly recommend the pork chop. It was beautifully presented and cooked to your likening.

Tina H.

Yelp
Restaurant was super busy, so there was a long wait for us to get our order taken, and food to come. I got the burger, which had the best yucca fries. Burger was juicy and the sauce was amazing. Cocktails are always delicious. Highly recommend for a night out! Love the aesthetic of this place. Be prepared to get overpriced tacos though.

Matt G.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience tonight with Sarah as our server. The margaritas were amazing, and Sarah gave great recommendations.

Warm Smoky salsa and warm fresh chips I had the salmon which was great. The service wasn't great, we had to ask for someone to come take our dinner order at one point, but otherwise great experience.

Yelp
The skinny margarita, lobster enchiladas, and the guacamole were amazing! Very aesthetic and nice environment. Highly recommend

Yelp
I like this place. I came on a Sunday for brunch. My waitress Stephanie was great. The food was good & I like the drinks. I ordered the steak and eggs which is my go to if you follow my page lol. The steak was like fajita meat in a way so it really wasn't the steak I expected. The ambiance was cool. Music was playing and it wasn't loud. They even have a purse stand for you to hang your purses or bags. I'll come back for brunch or dinner.

Yelp
Love the front entrance area, there's room for outside dining and games for the kiddos. The large wood door makes a strong impression of this place. There a two levels of dining and plenty of seating. Interior-very open with lots of windows and high ceilings. I didn't get any Mexican accents, or Mexican style decor, but still very elegant and fresh like it. Upstairs bar area was fantastic, what a great patio overlooking some high-rises in uptown. Service-I feel the service was very good, they have a lot staff walking around taking care of guests. Food-the food was better then I expected. The sopes appetizer we're great. They were small, but packed with flavor. The fish tacos were tasty and the steak fajitas hit the spot. Overall, very tasty food.

Yelp
So we heard great things about Mexican Sugar so we wanted to try it out as we are visiting from Seattle. My husband ordered the Paella and it was bland. Way more rice than seafood and the seafood was over cooked. I had the chicken and carne asada fajitas. The meat was prepared well but the accompanying grilled veggies were way over done. We each ordered a mocktail for we don't drink. My husband hasn't had a drink in 18 years. Instead of a refreshing hibiscus mocktail, they brought him a hibiscus margarita. My husband was upset, obviously, since he takes pride in his sobriety. 18 years is a long time and it's not easy. The server was apologetic and took responsibility which was nice. However, I was a server and in the F&B industry for 19 years. If I knew I served a sober individual a cocktail, I would be mortified and try to do something for them. His dining experience was ruined and he didn't drink his corrected mocktail due to lack of trust and turn off. We did share a dessert. I told him, I bet they remove the mocktail you didn't drink or at least comp the dessert. The bill came and every item was on there. Unbelievable! In addition, you could leave a 20%, 22% or 25% gratuity. We always tip well but I was upset and wanted the opportunity to show that we were not happy with the service. She doesn't know with a 20% gratuity hence this Yelp review. If you look at my review history, I focus on giving positive reviews since most often people report the negative. This establishment needs to learn how to try to make someone feel better in a crappy situation and take care of their guests. Epic fail!

Yelp
Was expecting a pretentious, overpriced, typical suburbia chain trying to make a name in uptown. Definitely not the case at Mexican Sugar! We came in on a Sunday am during their brunch at around 1145am. The place was not too crowded and we were able to snag a great table on the upstairs patio. We had the family with us so 2 adults and 2 little ones but we were well taken care of the whole time. We started with a couple of cocktails and they were delicious. I got the pisco paradisio and my partner got their mezcal cocktail. Both were delicious. We got the kids some of the donut churros and queso to get prevent their hanger. The donut churros were super airy and tasty. We also got the shrimp app that was described as poached shrimp with avocado. They also serve chips and salsa at the table and the salsa is flavorful. It's served hot and has a legit spice level as well. Our waitress was super friendly and nice to our whole party. We then got a few types of tacos to try. We got the chicken and the fish (bass). The fish tacos were a standout. The chicken was good too but a little on the dry side. The fish was super moist and tasty. All in all a great brunch experience and the patio was super pleasant.

Yelp
Went here for my friends birthday dinner this past Sunday. Never been to Mexican sugar but I have wanted to go for yearsss. Finally made it. This location is so beautiful and was very nice inside. Definitely a great place/location for many occasions. Our waitress was so amazing. Her name was Gray. I ordered everything she recommended to me. I loved her energy and her vibe. She was so sweet and attentive even with 8 of us all asking her multiple questions at once. I really couldn't stop looking at her either and honestly should've shot my shot at her, lol.... ;) But anyways back to the food. I ordered the fried shrimp and elotes tacos. The tacos were good but I think they would've been better if it came with like a cream sauce on top. But the fried shrimp was delicious and the taco overall was pretty good. The rice is comes with is really good and cooked to perfection, and the beans were also pretty tasty. Had good flavor. I also got the como la flor drink per Grays recommendation. That drink was so good to me. Has a lil spice like I like, and the hibiscus ice cube helps sweeten it up a bit as it melts. It was honestly a perfect drink for me. The birthday dessert they brought out was the tres leches cake and omg, that cake was amazing. Like it was very delicious and perfect. Everybody at the table thought it was so good. I think this might be one of my new favorite places to eat. I definitely can't wait to go back and try the other items I had my eye on.

Yelp
Met up with friends while I was in town. It's a cool space. It's well lit with a good sized bar. We all ordered the smoked tequila old fashioned, which we all liked but I would have preferred it with less sugar. I also thought they took far too long to make as I wasn't very busy. Our waiter was very nice and did an excellent job highlighting items on the menu. My friends order the pork chop and said it was good. I went with the Marisco Veracruz and loved it.

Yelp
Beautiful decor and layout; nice and clean. Good party atmosphere but not too loud. Music was a touch too loud but we adjusted. Service was professional and just the right amount of attention. Food was good, not great: I had the Carne Asada Tacos w/rice and beans. Meat was tender and corn shells were homemade. Rice and beans were just OK. I also tasted the Chicken Enchiladas and the Chicken Tacos. Meat was nicely flavored and tender. We also had the Queso Blanco with plenty of chips and salsa. The touch of guacamole was delightful. I didn't make it upstairs but seemed like another bar and dining room. Just FYI, I had a real hard time digesting this meal (no illness); maybe the corn tortillas as I rarely eat them.

Yelp
No water, no silverware, late seating... oh my! Went to Mexican Sugar today for the billionth time and the service was HORRENDOUS. The hostess was doing her best, but honestly they should've done a better job with stacking peoples reservations because almost 45 mins later we were finally sat. We didn't even get our actual reservation because they allowed people who wanted inside to sit outside. The manager was very kind and attempted to make it up to us. The service was lackluster at best. We had to ask for literally everything. I know how they have been in the past and the food was still good which is why I gave a 3. I think they have some kinks to work out, but they really have got to do better in the future. Also watching an influencer with a later reservation be sat before people who were in line definitely was obnoxious.

Yelp
Came here with a large party and was overall very pleased. Ambiance was warm and very chic, service was polite and very prompt even though we were at peak hours with a large party, and the food was overall quite good. Cocktails were well made but not knock your socks off good. I ordered the Bone-in Porkchop and it was cooked perfectly and was quite flavorful but also quite salty, which made it difficult to finish especially with the saltiness of the broccolini and rice. Other people enjoyed the food as well but some other dishes were also oversalted. Aside from that critique the food is really delicious. Overall, a good option at the price point. Highlights were the service and ambiance, food would be a 10/10 if not for the salt.

Yelp
Stopped in to visit Mexican Sugar on a Saturday night for a quick bite and drink. Even without a reservation there was plenty of space at the bar luckily. The restaurant is definitely beautiful and very lively. There is a parking garage attached and you're able to get your parking validated. For the food, I really enjoyed everything. You receive complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa came out warm and was the right level of spice for me. The enchiladas were absolutely amazing and I definitely recommend! The tacos were also very good. The only issue is the taco shell is a bit flimsy and fell apart easily. The churro donuts were fresh and also really good. Just wish there was some kind of dipping sauce to go along with it. What's pictured is basically whipped cream. Lastly, the drink was also pretty tasty and well balanced. Overall, I would definitely visit this place again! I think it's perfect for a dinner with friends.
