I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mexican Sugar, a fantastic new Mexican restaurant in Houston, and it was an incredible experience! The ambiance is absolutely amazing, with a vibrant and modern twist on traditional Mexican decor that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were seated at the bar but there’s a second floor, which offers a great view and a cozy yet lively setting. The drinks were top-notch – expertly crafted and full of unique flavors that perfectly complemented the dishes. The food was delicious, with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that made every bite memorable. Whether you’re looking for a place to unwind with friends or enjoy a special night out, Mexican Sugar is definitely the spot to visit. Highly recommend!

Great service! Our first time to this restaurant and Francisco got us seated right away. Our waiter Rafael was very attentive, and gave good recommendations. After dinner had drinks and dessert at the bar - Audie and Amanda were amazing! Definitely going back and bringing friends and family.

The food wasn’t as flavorful as it could have been but it was still good. I tried the ceviche which was fresh. The old fashioned was my friend’s I just took a video. The flight was not very strong but more so on the sweeter side. The bar area was nice and the bartenders were very good conversationalists.

Our whole experience was great. The host who greeted us and showed us to our table found out it was our first time at the restaurant and made food and drink suggestions. Our server Tony was amazing and walked us through the menu. He suggested their hot chocolate which was a whole experience. He was not just an order taker and truly interacted with us. We were all going to order fajitas, but his description of the pork chop made us switch and we all ended up sharing the pork chop because it was so good. The manager, Susan was also very friendly and showed us around the rest of the restaurant. We can’t wait to come back and try more things as well as the patio when the weather is nicer. Plenty of great tequila options as well as non alcoholic drinks.

We saw this on Instagram recently and let me just say it did not disappoint. First of all get a reservation, we were fortunate to walk in without one. The chips are fresh and delicious. The chicken tortilla soup was amazing. A little spice but still a great flavor. The enchilada plate was awesome. They had a Mexican flag of colors and it looked so great. I also had a hi Sioux drink and it was amazing. The best part was the hospitality. Andrea was such a kind and very great server. She did exceptional! Took her time to explain things and just overall gave a great impression of the restaurant. Five + stars

Came when they first opened and it was surprisingly very good! Drinks were strong enough but not too strong, food was delicious all around. I had the steak with their salsa, veggies and rice; flavorful and very delicious, I want to try other items and I will be back for my Birthday dinner for sure! Only thing: the service was okay but could be better. Then again they just opened and they were tackling a lot. I don’t blame them.

I definitely recommend the non-traditional dishes deviating from taco/fajita dishes. I was wowed by a surprise culinary experience and presentation!The pork chops were amazing with the citrus flavor and salmon absolutely delicious, both a flavorful explosion! Well balanced and perfectly portioned. The tequilas and cocktails were the cherries on top. Adrian introduced me to my new favorite cocktail on a Tuesday, the "Coma la Flor" which I highly recommended. Get experimental and enjoy the unique and clean flavor profiles along the way!

I really liked this place. The decor is really cool and you definitely want a table on the second floor, it’s just more lively and hip. I liked my food, the mesquite beef and lobster tail fajitas. Their guacamole and queso before the actual meal also was great. Probably ate too much of that and ruined our appetite for the main course. I would definitely come back.

Absolutely loved my experience at Mexican Sugar in Montrose! The vibe in the restaurant is vibrant and inviting. The food was nothing short of amazing--each dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. A special shoutout to Chef Marquice, who went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was excellent. I highly recommend Mexican Sugar for anyone looking to enjoy delicious food in a fantastic atmosphere! Can't wait to go back!

The eggs benedict and pancakes were so tasty. I can't believe this hidden gem was only 5 minutes from my townhome. Must try!!

Mexican Sugar has arrived Houston!! Love love love this restaurant. I have been to the Plano/Frisco location many times and absolutely love it. Food is fantastic and they make a mean Machete which is my favorite drink there. The ambiance is always chic and trendy. So happy we have one here in Houston. Mr. Tony was our server and he was top notch. Very good and attentive. Forks Up! I'll be back soon. Gigi

This was my first time at Mexican Sugar and I came based on a recommendation I saw on instagram. I made a reservation online about a week in advance for a party of 2. You can either valet the car or park in the parking garage which was about $5 for 2 hours. We ended up getting a code to get free parking on our next visit but seems like something that should be available to use same day, like getting your parking validated but it's all good. When we arrived we were seated and it was all cool at first with our original waiter as she came and checked on us a couple of times to get our drinks started. Somewhere along the line she completely disappeared and we literally never saw her again. We had to request a couple of people to look for her and eventually we were assigned a new waiter altogether. He was extremely helpful to the best of his ability and very apologetic whenever he came back to check on us. I started to look around and while it didn't seem insanely busy, they appeared to be short staffed. This definitely put a damper on the experience because it took a while to get things but I'll give them grace and assume this was just an "off" day. I will say the food was delicious! The chips and salsa was really good. The chips tasted like they were freshly fried so I could not get enough of it. We also ordered a side of queso as well that was pretty delish! For my entree i got the pork chops which came with a side of potatoes and it was very well seasoned. Even when I took it home and reheated it, I was craving more so will definitely come back and try it again.

The restaurant is beautiful and has a fancy authentic Mexican vibe. We only had brunch which was decently priced. They make their own corn tortillas and food had great flavor and seasonings. The brunch requires a reservation but we got lucky to find seating upstairs at the bar. Much more fun and vibing upstairs. Beautiful attention to detail when decorating this restaurant. The bartenders were super attentive, patient and provided recommendations. I ordered the brunch tacos and had the Micheladas. Loved the homemade corn tortillas. The Micheladas definitely tasted like mexico's. My friend got the breakfast quesadilla and it is a large portion. Fun dinner date night, evening with the girls or brunch spot.

Met up with some friends for a last minute brunch on Sunday! I was able to secure a reservation about 3 hours ahead! Located off of W Dallas, it is easy to find. There is valet parking as well as (paid) garage parking. Street parking is available as well. We were promptly seated and attended to by the staff. Everyone was super friendly. It was a rainy day and the floor in the restaurant was super slippery. Very slippery! Took a star off for that as it was a slip / fall hazard. Also, my friend noted there was not a baby changing station in the women's restroom. At the time of this review, Mexican Sugar has been open less than two months. Our server mentioned they are known for their freshness of ingredients. I loved the chips and warm salsa, very tasty. I started with a carajillo and it was delicious. For brunch, I ordered the brunch tacos and my friend got the cinnamon vanilla pancakes. The brunch tacos were very filling and flavorful, it came with a side of fresh fruit sprinkled with tajin. My friend raved about the pancakes, light fluffy, and flavorful. Also, I can't go to a Mexican restaurant without trying a margarita and I tried the Grandioso (reposado, grand marnier, agave, and lime). Our server shook it up and poured it tableside. It was very refreshing. I will definitely come back to try lunch, dinner, or happy hour. At the time of this review, happy hour is Monday - Friday from 2-6!

I enjoyed the meal and vibes of this place. It was very vibrant and I loved the different seating options available. They have an upstairs, downstairs and patio seating. Plenty of seating for large groups and small parties. I went during brunch and got their Out of the Office drink with tequila and their breakfast quesadillas and I added crab meat to it. I wish the quesadillas had a bit more bacon in it but it was good. Very large too because I could only eat a few slices. I also had their elote and that was good too. The service was good as they accommodated our reservation and was seated quickly. I would definitely return to try more food and drinks. Side note: If you park in the garage be sure to pay. They offer a validation code so get that before you get seated and then pay. Otherwise you'll get a fine in the mail if you don't pay lol.

We stopped into Mexican Sugar for a margarita flight and cup of their tortilla soup over the weekend. It was crowded, I definitely recommend a reservation. We grabbed a spot at the bar, which was fine for us. The salsa was warm and delicious. The soup was hearty - I would definitely get it again! The margaritas were very upscale and beautifully presented. 10/10 overall!

Nowadays, restaurants tend to go above and beyond when it comes to making reservations for parties of six or more. Thankfully, I saw my co-worker's post on LinkedIn about this restaurant, and I was able to make a reservation with no issues for a party of 12. When we arrived, there was garage parking available. I believe there's a fee (I didn't realize it until I was leaving). The place was absolutely stunning! The service was impeccable, and the prices were so reasonable for the area and the overall vibe--which is so appreciated these days! The food was excellent. Most of us ordered the enchiladas, which were perfectly prepared with plenty of meat. The rice and beans were delicious! They also have an amazing drink menu! As a tequila lover, I'll definitely be back, especially for brunch. The drinks were fantastic! I rate this place a 10/10. The chips were freshly made, and the salsa was full of flavor. Thank you for an unforgettable night with friends! We will definitely be back. A special shout-out to our server, Will--he was so sweet and took great care of us!

We decided to drop in for brunch. We started at the bar downstairs then Transitioned upstairs. Amanda, Aron and Jerry customer service was awesome! They made great food and drink recommendations. We tried a little bit of everything. The French toast and pork chop with eggs were great. The breakfast tacos were good but definitely could have used some seasoning. I subbed out the bacon for carne asada. The carne asada was good and tender but definitely missing on the seasoning. The Yuka Fries were really good as well. Upstairs has a different vibe...much more lively. There is an indoor/outdoor bar along with a patio. Upstairs also have tv's to watch the games. Definitely will be back for dinner really soon.

Brianna helped us celebrate the New Year in a special way! She was an impeccable server! She made recommendations and made sure our food was prepared as ordered. We tried the queso blanco, the arepas, and the lobster fundido with husbiscus tortillas. We had brunch (steak and eggs, tacos, and the rancheros benedictos) and shrimp fajitas. We loved the fajitas and the tacos! We don't really recommend the benedictos. The well done steak was perfect. Anything less than well done may be a challenge for the kitchen. We also had the horchata and the colada. The colada is excellent. I'm a bit undecided on the rice milk in the horchata. We arrived when the restaurant opened, and as additional patrons entered, the atmosphere picked up. The level of conversation and activity remained perfect throughout. We were able to have great conversation through our entire meal. Overall we highly recommend this restaurant! We will definitely return!

We had a great lunch/brunch at Mexican Sugar. We sat on the upstairs covered patio (which is covered and heated, but I'm not sure the heater was working?) and enjoyed the ambience. The restaurant is large (two stories) and can fit a lot of people--it would likely work for large groups too. I had the brunch tacos (eggs, potatoes, bacon, and cheese), and I liked them--the corn tortillas were fresh, and it was nice to have a side of fruit come with the dish. I'd also recommend the skinny margarita, which is served in a coupe glass. I took a bite of my friend's beef fajitas, and they were good too. Overall, I liked Mexican Sugar, but, with all of the amazing Tex-Mex options we have in Houston, I'm not sure it's my favorite.

If you have visited Mexican Sugar's Dallas area location like me then you may be disappointed in this new Houston location. I came in with high expectations. While waiting on my party to arrive, I waited at the bar and was greeted by the bartender with chips and salsa. I ordered a Grandioso Margarita to drink which he made so perfect. At our table, we ordered more drinks and dinner. I got the mesquite chicken which was JUST OK!...overall, the best thing about MS was the drinks and salsa...

Went for a friend's birthday and had an amazing time! We went for happy hour and got a table on the second floor. We ordered the hibiscus margarita, the machete margarita, and the chupa. For food we ordered the ceviche and the Latin Paella. We were also gifted the churros for my friend's birthday. The hibiscus margarita was the perfect level of sweetness for me with the fresh taste of jamaica which did a great job minimizing the alcoholic taste in the cocktail. I ordered two because they were so good! (8/10) The machete was very refreshing with the taste of cucumber and fresh watermelon juice and had a subtle hint of spice from the serrano toward the end. The cocktail also had a frozen agua de sandia ice cube which helped maintain the flavor of the drink instead of dilute it like a normal ice cube would've which we loved. (7.5/10) The chupa was just an alcoholic version of a frozen mangonada and so it was super tasty. The sweetness of the mango balanced out with the chamoy and the tajin on the rim made it the perfect drink. (8.5/10) The ceviche was so fresh and tasted just like the ceviche I've had in Mexico city. The flavors were super authentic and I especially loved the addition of cherry tomatoes which added a sweetness to a traditionally more our dish. I would definitely order again (9/10) The latin paella was delicious with plenty of seafood throughout the dish and perfectly cooked rice. The rice was not too soggy and I really enjoyed the variety of seafood in the dish. All the seafood was cooked perfectly and I loved the Spanish chorizo In the dish to add the extra saltiness and smokiness to the dish. (8/10) The churros were a pleasant surprise and came with a chocolate and cajeta sauce that were both tasty. I liked how the churros were little fluffy bites instead of the traditional churro stick. It was the perfect sweet treat to end the night. (8.5/10) Overall, the ambiance was incredible. From the classy and modern décor, to the view from the second floor, to the music. Also, I was shocked to see such reasonable prices on the menu especially for the area. The happy hour menu is definitely worth the prices. The cherry on top to this experience was definitely the stellar service we received. Our server Tony made great recommendations for the menu and came to check on us frequently and even double checked if our table wanted a second round of drinks before happy hour ended. He went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed the night which we really appreciated. The parking is paid garage parking but if you are dining here you can use code MEXSUGAR for a free first 2 hrs. I will definitely be back for the drinks, great bites, and amazing service!

Absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was very romantic with candles everywhere and low lighting. I went for my Sis-in-law's bday dinner and OMG! The food, the drinks, the ambiance.....spectacular. We will be going back for date night! Our waitress was bubbly and hilarious.

I've been to the one in Dallas so I was excited to see one was coming to Houston. The place is beautiful and the service was good. I had the chicken fajitas and a hibiscus drink and they were both delicious! Plus Their chips and salsa were addicting. Also for anyone new, parking is under the sterling and there's valet or it's a pay to park zone.

Came here to celebrate a birthday! Made reservations ahead of time and arrived on their 2nd day of opening. There is actually quite alot of space. There's 2 floors and the 2nd floor truly surprised me. Great views and plenty of seating. There is also a outdoor rooftop seating as well, would be great on a day with nice weather. Started off with some drinks and I got the Grandioso (Corazón Reposado, Grand Marnier, agave, lime). It had a good amount of Reposado in it and the Tajin paired nicely. They also had a flight of margaritas as well and my friend enjoyed it too (it included the Machete, Classico, Hibiscus). They also give complimentary chips and red salsa (warmed). For apps, we got the Lobster Fundito (Oaxaca & Chihuahua cheese, buttered lobster, nopal, cilantro, hibiscus tortillas) and it was cheeesey! In a good way. Mid-amount of lobster. But tasted good! Also got the Guacamole and it was refreshing! For my main, I got the Angus Ribeye which also included grilled onions, rajas, black beans, cilantro-lime rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, hibiscus and corn tortillas. I thought the Angus Ribeye was seasoned well and cooked nicely to my Medium liking. Very tender and everything paired together deliciously. Would get again. Portions were perfect too. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because I think we got swindled. The waiter made it seemed like he was going to comp the dessert which were the Churros, but ended up charging us. We did get an additional dessert, which was the coconut tres lechces which wasn't my favorite. Restrooms - were clean, would've liked some purse or coat hanger in the stalls. Has the nice napkins Parking - within the garage and they will comp your ticket for 2 hours by typing in a code "MEXSUGAR" Overall, I thought the atmosphere was really nice and food/drinks was good.

The restaurant décor makes you feel like you're on vacation. There's an upstairs and downstairs bar area. Upstairs feels more like the fun bar and downstairs feels more like family or grab a quick drink while I wait on my table. The burger was really good, which you wouldn't expect from a Mexican restaurant. The carne asada street tacos were probably a 3/5 for me. The churros were a 5/5, the Margaritas were only a 3/5. The flavor was good, but the strength of the drink just didn't do it for me.

This was quite the surprise. It's located off Allen Parkway. Parking available in the garage and restaurant will valet your parking just be sure to scan parking in the restaurant. Plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs (take stairs or elevator). Beautiful design throughout and our server was amazing, always checking in with us. The arrepas, Mexican corn, salad and white queso were delicious. The horchara washed ig down nicely. My lunch was also delicious. I ordered a side of refried black beans to enjoy with chips and they too were good. Overall, the food, service and ambiance was very nice and clean. I'll be back to enjoy dinner and drinks. P.S. I filled up on the appetizers so make sure to share. Also, don't forget RSVP to ensure you get a table!

Would have been 5 stars for me, but unfortunately we had a reservation at 7:30 and we had to wait 30 minutes to be sat at our table. The menu prices are veryyyy reasonable which is hard to come by with new Houston restaurants. Our server was Antonio and he offered great recommendations from the menu that did not disappoint and service was amazing. I ordered the fried shrimp tacos and while they were delicious, they are on the drier side. Drinks were delicious I loved the make it skinny cocktail the most. The restaurant offers valet parking and there is also a self park garage. It was also our friend's birthday and they gave us complimentary churros.

Cool concept of a restaurant. I didn't know they also have a location in Irving. The atmosphere is fun. The food is tasty with some heat level. Drinks are little too sweet for my liking, but may be perfect for others. Service was good. I couldn't figure out the parking situation, but we found parking on the street. A cool place worth checking out.

Beautiful space, good service, okay food and terrible margaritas. If you ave not been to Regent Square previously, there is Valet parking or you can park in the garage and pay with your phone using the posted QR code. I ordered the margarita flight. The Classico was the best and still not great. The Machete tasted like cucumber water from a spa. No hint of Serrano whatsoever, no watermelon and no tequila. Maybe they had not finished making it? Hibiscus tasted like cranberry juice, also no tequila. My husband order the Classico first the ordered a custom margarita which was much better. Maybe the listed drinks are pre made? Chips were great, salsa was served warm with a heavy tomato base and a hint of chili. It reminded me of a home made enchilada sauce. My husband said it tasted like ketchup and our kids were not fans. It would be nice to have another salsa option. The queso was just okay. I could use more flavor and was a bit cold when served. That said, all of the food could have been warmer. The upstairs dining room was a bit chilly and I am never cold. I had the cheese enchiladas, my favorite and usually how I establish a baseline for a Mexican restaurant. Served cold and the cheese inside the enchilada was firm. It was a blend of Oaxaca and Monterrey so I was not expecting the gooey orange cheese of most Tex-Mex, but it would have been softer if warmer. There were three enchiladas. One with the same queso blanco we had started with and two with salsa rojo. The salsa rojo had a pungent oregano like herb in it. Maybe it was epazote? I had never had it before in any dish. It was overwhelming and distracted from any other flavor they may have been. Not for me. Rice was okay, bits of corn and cilantro, I think, surprisingly bland. The beans!!! My favorite part of our meal. If I return I would sit at the bar, order a custom margarita and a bowl of these black refried beans to eat with the chips, maybe corn tortillas? Husband said seafood tacos were okay, but he didn't need to ever have them again. My son had Carne Asda tacos with everything on the side. He liked the flavor but said several bites of skirt steak were chewy and he replaced much of it back on the plate. Other son had the chicken enchiladas and opted for all queso and the topping sauce. Usually served with one each topped queso, salsa verde and salsa rojo. He ate one of the three but did not enjoy them and would not order again. The roasted chicken was dark meat and had the same green herb from the salsa rojo. Again, I think this might be epazote? Both kids had the Sugar Skull Hot Cocoa. Served table side with a cinnamon stick for stirring. They loved it. A bit steep at $13 for a kids beverage. There is an adult version with added Licor 43 for and additional $3. Over all, beautiful space and environment, our service experience was nice, we were just hoping for better food and drinks which obviously is the most important part. I would return again and maybe try the fajitas? But with so many options in Houston, it may be a while for our us. Wishing Mexican Sugar the best of luck here in Houston and as always I encourage you to check it out for yourself!

So I I gave this place three stars just from the start of the experience we made a 730 reservation on a Friday night and when we walked in at 7:30, they said there would be a 20 minute wait. When you have a reservation, you expect to be seated at that time. That was the first red flag. The second was the drinks took forever to come. The waiter Antonio was very sweet and he definitely recommended a lot of dishes and gave his personal opinions on all of them. He was a 10 out of 10. He recommended the Picato tacos so I got them instead of the shrimp. They were pretty good for grilled fish tacos. I've had better but for the price it's worth it. The espresso martinis were actually divine not too sweet and made carajillo style! Parking was in the garage and they have a QR code inside for payment. This place was packed! I would come back for some happy hour!

Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by the inviting ambience and the appealing location, which undoubtedly sets the stage for attracting the right clientele. However, as a newly established venue, it appears that the staff is still in the process of refining their operations. My initial experience was somewhat marred by difficulties with my reservation, which they were unable to locate on two separate occasions. During this time, I was not offered the option to be seated at the bar or to seek out my party, which added to the initial frustration. Once the reservation issue was resolved, I was pleased to find that the service provided by the servers was exemplary, with all dishes arriving in a timely manner. I began my meal with a hibiscus margarita, which was refreshingly zesty--a delightful start to the evening. For my main course, I opted for the paella. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The rice was overcooked, resulting in a mushy and sticky texture, while the seafood was disappointingly tough and chewy. Additionally, the sausage had a rubbery consistency that detracted from the overall experience. The rice served with the fish tacos also suffered from overcooking. While the seasoning was commendable and added a nice flavor profile to the dishes, the execution left much to be desired. In summary, this establishment shows great potential and simply requires some fine-tuning in its culinary offerings. The ambience is conducive to both intimate gatherings and romantic dinners, creating an inviting atmosphere. With some constructive feedback and attention to detail in the kitchen, I believe this restaurant could soon establish itself as a notable dining destination. New restaurant in town that checks all the boxes. Drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic 10/10. You do get complimentary chips and salsa and I really enjoyed the red salsa. Entrees and service were 10/10. The restaurant is dimly lit and has music playing but it is not too loud. One thing to note is that the menu options are pretty small. I enjoyed my visit and will definitely return.

Ok so I had no idea this place just opened but I was super excited for my reservations, the vibes were nice and they have a really cool set up to where u can see all the line cooks etc. bar is also super cute. Food was OK I got the marinated shrimp and the steak enchiladas (mid 4/10) steak was kindve chewy. The Chicken tacos were deliciousssssss though. Our server wasn't very attentive and it took until we got our entrees to get any drinks from the bar although I ordered my drink before the app! Lmao so service was OK 5/10 for service but overall it's a nice spot for a date night maybe. Also if you have reservations they still end up sitting u down and making u wait which I was annoyed about a little bit because what's the point of having a reservation lol anyways overall I probably would come back for happy hour

This place was really cute!! The lighting was pretty dark at dinner time.. we had to use the flashlights on our phones to look at the menu. But that was the biggest complaint I had. The food was really delicious! We all enjoyed it. Drinks were all amazing also! Service was mid, needed some improvement there.. but could have been worse.

We went on a day date with another couple and wanted to try something new. We knew we wanted to try something near the Heights, so when Mexican Sugar popped up on Yelp, we decided this would be our place. The drinks were so delicious and beautiful. My husband had a drink that had a smoky flavor. We shared fajitas that were just the right amount. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. We loved how the manager stopped to check on us and said goodbye as we were leaving. We would definitely return!

I enjoyed my time here . I wasn't quite hungry so I just ordered an appetizer(red fish ceviche) and it was GOODT ! A hint of spice and quite flavorful . I had the margarita flight and the drinks were delicious. Crafted well . Our waiter was attentive and patient. The staff were friendly. The ambiance is perfect for date night or birthday dinner. I took an uber but there's street parking available I'll return to try more entrees

This place has a great ambiance especially on the second floor which would make a great small event spot. The chicken and beef enchiladas and carnitas tacos were excellent. I was a lil bummed in their rice and lemonada and i didn't love that their beans were spicy.

Loved the atmosphere and service- we had an enjoyable double date night here and walked around the area after. Delicious fajitas, enchiladas, and fish. Those were my favorites. The space is dim light and clean. Modern decor. There's an upstairs, downstairs, outdoor patio and outdoor balcony eating options. We had a really great time. The salsa and chips were very good and warm. It's located in the same plaza as flight club. The parking lot structure is a bit confusing because it's one of those that takes pictures of your plate and then you pay online... the lot payment is kind of new. There's a valet option- I think it's $8. You can ask the waitstaff or front to give you a code for first 2 hours free. After that it's a a 50% discount on parking.

The service and food were all amazing. Marquis took great care of us all evening. This was our first time but will not be our last.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this place isn't very good. The Mexican food is marginal at best. Margaritas were a lot of syrup and not a lot of alcohol. Order the enchiladas and I had to send it back. It was terrible. Also the bar is super slow. I mean really slow in getting your drinks. I don't see his place lasting very long There is way too many other quality Mexican restaurants in the area.

I have never had better pork in my life! The food and service at Mexican Sugar is truly spectacular. The cocktails are creative, well balanced and beautiful. You must try the ribeye fajitas, the best guacamole in town and the Napa Salad. The dining rooms offer various areas for whatever you need. There are spaces for business meetings, family friendly areas and party zones. We loved this place!

Mexican Sugar officially opens today and they are worth a visit! We were invited to a soft opening event and got to try some dishes. Our favorites were the shrimp salad, tortilla soup, and the Angus skirt steak. The tortilla soup is the absolute best that I've ever had! The skirt steak was very flavorful and the accompanying green beans were cooked perfectly! We will definitely be back to try other dishes! The atmosphere was lively and the music wasn't too loud. We were able to carry on a conversation without yelling. With so many restaurants being booked through New Years, this is a great option with availability. Ask for Thomas to be your server and he will take good care of you!

Patio seating is awesome!!! Beautifully done. Interesting that the majority of the seating is upstairs. Open kitchen if you like to see all the action. My fried shrimp and elite tacos were crazy good. Uhhmm 150 tequilas?? Time to sit at the bar and start tasting. I will definitely be back!

I was really disappointed with this place. Staff was great, very nice, friendly, and helpful. The food jst wasn't it. It tasted like Tex Mex food even though they sell you this idea of it being authentic Mexican food. I had the barbacoa enchiladas, the sauce they used tasted like the sauce they use for the chip salsa. Also had the squash flower quesadilla... I've had squash flower quesadillas plenty of times before. Generally speaking, places who make these quesadillas know what they're doing and they're always very authentic, which is why I ordered these... and these were good, but it jst tasted like a Tex Mex quesadilla, nothing out of the ordinary. DRINK WE GOT WAS AMAZING THOUGH!

Pros: Margaritas were yummy and strong. Chips, salsa, and guac were great. Vibe is cool. Decor is nice. Service was friendly. Cons: I spent over $10 for self park. I ordered an entree when I got my appetizer and it came within like 2 minutes and it was cold. Then service was MIA.

The service was just horrible. It took 40 minutes to receive our drinks, one dish came out wrong and all the food was cold. Will not be back.

My friend and I stumbled across this place and actually booked for their opening day. Loved the sleek and fun design of the restaurant. They were still making some adjustments as to be expected but the staff were overly attentive. The food was tasty, my only qualm is I like my enchiladas with cheese and that was a little lacking in the steak option but that's a personal preference. Also really enjoyed their agua Fresca

We reserved table but did have to wait additional 25 minutes for table to become available. On bright side The Carnitas Tacos were delicious and we couldn't stop munching on the chips and queso. Service was slow but the waitress had an amazing attitude. I did enjoy the ambiance overall and felt the low lighting in the restaurant very calming especially after having a long day at work. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Definitely would go back.

I walked into Mexican Sugar as a hopeful walk-in, only to be told they weren't accepting any. Fair enough, but we decided to grab seats at the bar instead. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. The margaritas we ordered were, hands down, the saddest I've ever seen. The glass was barely half full, dominated by a massive ice cube, making it look more like a shot than a proper cocktail. To make matters worse, the bartenders were completely inattentive, oblivious to what was happening around them. It's clear that if this level of service continues, they'll drive this place into the ground. We didn't even bother ordering food. We closed out and left definitely not a place I'd recommend.

Food was excellent!! The tortilla soup is very much non-traditional but in all the best ways. Very hearty and filling!! The queso blanco had a healthy dose of cumin which was a pleasant surprise. Watermelon margarita had a nice punch from Serrano pepper but it was a bit smaller and gone after 2 sips. Ranch water was a 10/10. I will definitely be back!! Ask for nemo!! She was an excellent server!!

This restaurant is very cute and has a 2 floor patio. They allow happy hour anywhere not just in the bar area which is a plus. The food we tried was tasty and not too expensive. The arepas were my favorite along with the queso Blanco. I got the beef fajita with lobster for my entree and it was good. But I'm not sure how I feel about the tortillas yet. Also the side of rice and beans is a little small compared to other restaurants. The chupa was tasty, not sure how much alcohol was actually in it. The machete definitely had more alcohol and had a light and refreshing taste. It even had a watermelon ice cube. The chips and salsa is good as well. Apparently they have green salsa for a price. Now our waiters were friendly but moved a bit slow with taking empty dishes and glasses from the table. We also asked for suggestions on the menu and they didn't seem very confident with the menu yet. I heard the waitress behind us and she seemed way more knowledgeable. It didn't ruin our experience because we were having a chill day. Definitely would return.

Ambiance is family friendly, caters to large groups in this two story Tex Mex restaurant. The service is awesome even on a busy Saturday with the place packed! I'm visiting from LA and loved the carnitas tacos with black beans and cilantro lime rice! Tacos had fresh chicharones shavings! Great touch. Both the GM and assistant manager came by all the tables to check on us, and the server was friendly and polite. I will come back, and only wish they had one in CA!

We had our annual pre Christmas gathering at Mexican Sugar this year. They have been open for i believe 2 weeks. So please give them some grace and don't make your decision to go or not based on my opinion because with most things they may get better with time. This is located in the montrose area so that should tell you enough for parking..street parking and I believe I saw garage parking. Right now you can tell it's a hot spot because the place was full! We were sat immediately and the customer service from Andrea was pretty good. We started with drinks and I think we all finished our drinks thinking "where is the alcohol". We thought it would sneak up on us, but no. We gave the feedback that one thing a Mexican resturant should never get wrong is the Margaritas! They gave us chips and salsa. Now that was good! We tore up them chips. We ordered the queso and arepas. The queso was sooooo thick but had good flavor and the arepas were missing like maybe a sauce to top it off. We ordered fajitas, lump crab enchiladas, and the porkchop. The fajitas did not come out on a sizzling plate and they were not extremely hot but the flavor was really good for both the chicken and beef. I was a little upset because I was charged 3.00 for to go tortillas. Never experienced that ever. The enchiladas came out cold and they took them back and brought out a hot order. There was nothing lump about those crab enchiladas, and the waitress was aware of this. It's just regular crab in a shell. The porkchop was actually pretty good. So all this to say, it will probably be a while if we decide to come back so they can work out the kinks and get it together.

This is a nice new date night spot in Montrose. It's spacious with chic decor and a romantic ambiance. The floor plan is open, so I suggest another spot if you're looking for cozy. Parking is nearby in a paid garage. High notes: Classic margarita, queso, guacamole, enchiladas.

My first happy hour here! It was wonderful. Adriel was a wonderful host- gave me a tour of the entire place and explained its history! Loved it
