"Started in 2015 by Paloma Rivera Uribe as an experiment in peer-to-peer mezcal exchange, Tianguis Mezcalero has grown into an independent project promoting traditional artisanal mezcals through cultural events that pair mezcal with cuisine, music, and community traditions. "Nearby Mezcalero explores a broader sweep of regional Mexican cooking and recreates Mexico City street traditions, notably tacos de canasta: three guajillo-dipped tortillas heated to order and separately packed with beans, chorizo and potatoes, and chicharrones to mimic the steamed, perfumed tortillas sold by bicycle vendors.
