"Operated by Israelis Alon and Tal Greenstein, who previously ran a popular food tent in the area, MeZe is an excellent destination for all things Mediterranean. Alongside shareable falafel and dip spreads or hummus bowls, the cafe serves on-point delights like the sabich sandwich — a delicious mash-up of eggplant, pickled and hard-boiled eggs, stuffed into a fluffy pita. The vegan malabi, a Mediterranean rose-infused take on panna cotta, is not to be missed." - Flora Tsapovsky

My Hummus bowl with chicken and my wife’s Falafel platter yesterday afternoon were delicious. A side of beets complemented both. We left satisfied and will return.

Google
Very high quality good entrees and desserts. One of the few restaurants that I have been to that claims to be entirely dairy free, which is great for those who are lactose intolerant.

Ordered a drink with my to-go order. Told to go and pick it up from the fridge. Bottom shelf but she said we have rotating flavours so not sure if we have yours. Well turned out incorrect drink picked up. No photo of the drink on online order page. Asking the cashier what drink then it exactly? She is changing it second shelf from the top? Just left without a drink cause don’t have time for guessing what exactly I need to pick up with the order I paid for. Also, to go order was given out without a bag? With pita laying on top of it in a small open bag. The question on where do I get a fork for my to go order was left unanswered.

Google
Mediterranean food. Absolutely loved the Red Fusion drink. Good flavor, excellent quality. The pita was kind of thick for our liking. Friendly service and pretty cool set up. Seems popular. Lots of people eating there. Wasn’t enough seating for our group.

Google
Downtown Grass Valley is a special place and Meze' is one of our favorite stops. You can dine inside their newly expanded space or out on the patio, which is like a "parklet". Enjoy the seasonal decorations and watch the people and pups stroll by. The food is fresh and beautiful works of art. Meze' is owned by the sweetest folks, always a joy to see their friendly smiles. We highly recommend this unique spot.

We were in town and excited to try Meze for lunch. The cashier was rude when she finally acknowledged us. The food was cold. Then another lady from the back came out to the area where we were eating and turned the light off on us…. horrible experience. Unfortunately, we won’t be back. Cute location.

I'm not just saying this. Don't take my words lightly. This is THE BEST Mediterranean food I've ever had and it's not even close. This place is worth the trip from anywhere. Super healthy and super tasty. Everything is made with love ❤️

Google
This place is an absolute banger! No it’s not fine dining. No they don’t have table service. But this is best lunch counter in the area and probably is a top 3 restaurant in the whole Grass Valley / Nevada City area. Everything here is super fresh, bright, colorful, and super tasty. Israeli Mediterranean at the highest level. Tons of healthy options. It’s hard to pick favorites. But we routinely get the Paleo Bowl and Falafel Dip Plate.

Yelp
All the food is excellent the service has always been quick and easy. I usually call in my order but noticed they expanded the seating area for more room to dine in.

Yelp
OK, I really wanna like this restaurant. It's one of the only healthy options in Grass Valley. Two months ago, my wife and I ate here and she had a hair in her food but even with that I wanted to give it a second try so I went there on my own yesterday and this is what I experienced. Before I get into the big story I'm going to say I'm gonna try this restaurant one more time because I'm desperate for healthy food. OK the place was hopping last night which was always good to see and when I got up to the counter, the young man who is taking the orders was absolutely amazing. I ordered the chicken Shawarma plate and a side of hummus at that point I asked, can I have an extra pita bread for the hummus? I don't care what it costs. The guy said we're running low on pita so I can't do it but he offered to throw in a falafel that was a pro move but not really what I wanted so I said no thank you and left a good tip. They cook everything fresh so it took a minute or two not a big deal and then my box of food came out. I was a little disappointed, cause that to go box had some food residue on top of it, but I wiped it off and headed to my car as I'm walking to my car. I take a glimpse at the bottom of the box and see it's got food on the bottom and a chunk of beet with beet juice on the bottom. I'm really happy. I caught that cause if I had thrown it on my car seat, it would permanently stay in the seat which would've sucked when I get into the car. I open the box and I see a half a pita. Now I'm irritated when you order the chicken Shawarma, you get three options: a half a pita, a full pita and the plate. With each option, it gets more expensive the plate being the most expensive so here I am with half of pita and side of hummus and piss because I just feel like I got gypped. So here's my advice for Meze Eatery-wipe your counters, clean your hands and make sure you have enough pita bread for all of your customers. As I mentioned in the beginning, I'm gonna give this another shot in a couple of months and I'll update this review. You've got this market locked up. It just takes a little extra effort. Before I close out this review, I wanna mention that the hummus was fantastic and the chicken Shawarma was delicious. The food quality got you an extra star. I'm confused by the sauerkraut, but hey people want great gut health. See you in a few months.

Yelp
Went for some delicious hummus! We stayed for awesome chicken shawarma and beef and lamb kabobs! Very pleasant experience

Yelp
This was my first visit to MeZe. First and foremost, the food was delicious! Very fresh, made to order, perfectly seasoned. That said, it was a very long wait for a pita. Very long. Perhaps because of the ingredients, because people who ordered after I did were served before I was. I will definitely go back, just recommend plenty of time if you try it.

Yelp
Delicious food! What a gem in grass valley! MeZe is located right in the heart of grass valley and has a great ambiance- good indoor and outdoor seating, with cute decorations and a handwritten menu. I got the falafel dip plate, which was GREAT! So fun to eat and a great value for the price. It comes with five falafels, hummus, cucumber/tomato salad, kale/quinoa salad, and a variety of other dips, which were all delicious and flavorful. The falafels were perfectly crunchy on the outside and flavor-packed on the inside. It also came with a fluffy pita which was perfect for stuffing the dips and falafels into. Food came out fast and I got this plate per the employee's recommendation, so great service. Wish I lived closer so I could go back!

Yelp
I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place in the heart of Grass Valley. Delicious and super fresh mediterranean food, and reasonably priced (for the area). There's a small amount of indoor seating, but also outdoor seating offered. Lots of great options to choose from, my family went with a spread. It took around 10 minutes for our food to be prepared. I got the paleo bowl, and it was amazing. Great portion size, and all the veggies were so fresh. The chicken was tender and succulent, and all the sauces elevated the flavor. I was excited to see that they had included one falafel to try! I tasted some pita and it was delicious, everything seemed very high quality. My dad complained his chicken was served cold, so I guess he got the last bit of the last batch. Oh well! Overall super delicious.

Aubrie R.

Yelp
Solid! Incredibly high quality food, slightly higher prices than I was expecting for Grass Valley, but I'm always willing to pay for fresh, locally sourced food. Ordered online, arrived to a BUSY Friday night and my order had not yet been filled. I wasn't in a hurry, so I sat and waited. It was 20 minutes after my scheduled pickup time, but the staff thanked me for my patience.... They were hustling back there for sure so I didn't mind. The food was excellent - fresh and flavorful. Portions were on the smaller side so I'm glad I ordered the full pita and not the half. The raw desserts were awesome for this lactose-intolerant girl! Extra points for the compostable to-go containers!

Kathy R.

Yelp
The serving plates and bowls have chips in them. That doesn't make for a good feeling of food safety. Would like to see more respect for the customer experience

Fran V.

Yelp
Service was quick and no-nonsense, ambiance was comfortable for a quick service dining operation, and the food was really good: I was happy to have the option of ordering a half pita as my appetite was not huge. The pita was thick and so soft, the chicken was a bit dry but had a great season to it and all the other ingredients were crunchy amd tasty. It was fun to try and figure out what Mediterranean flavors I was tasting! The housemade falafel had a great crunch and nice soft inside. The small cup of dessert was called a Malabi and was a vegan version of a Persian dessert made with coconut milk, rose water, pomegranate syrup, and spices topped with pistachios. Subtle flavors and nice textures made for a pleasant finish to my meal.

Yelp
Every time I'm in GV I have to hit MeZe. The food is soooo good. Love the deserts too! Their hummus and sauces are fantastic. Made in house. Only downside is service. I've been here dozens of times and the staff isn't very friendly. Obviously the food is so good I keep coming back but room for improvement on that front. Seating outside is nice.

Melinda T.

Yelp
Revisited this place tonight and it was terrific. We both had shawarma pita sandwiches. Mine was chicken, his was beef. The housemade pitas were amazing. Each shawarma was served with a delectable falafel ball that was so light and delicious! Can't wait to come back here again! Also appreciate the buzzers to let us know when our order was ready, that's a really good addition! Loved the outdoor seating where our dog could sit with us! Comfortable and welcoming, thank you. We'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Stopped by MeZe for dinner over the weekend and had a good experience. Located in the cute downtown area, Meze offers a modern environment for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. Food - The food was pretty good. We both ordered the paleo bowl and it was chock full of good stuff. The chicken was very tasty and the veggies and sauces complimented everything else very well. Atmosphere - The restaurant itself is not very big and wouldn't be very friendly to larger groups. There is an outdoor area where a larger group could dine, but indoors there's limited seating. It's overall fairly clean and they play some good music to get you in the mood for some good food. Service - The service is pretty much deli style. You order at the counter and you get the food yourself when your order is called. They have complimentary water that you can also serve yourself (which I like because I can be a thirsty boy). The staff were friendly in our interactions with them. Overall, it was a good meal and I would consider returning if I was in the mood for that type of food.

Yelp
Food was perfect, service was amazing and the area was clean. I needed some healthy food after eating whatever we wanted. Hi

Teresa F.

Yelp
Wow, what a find MeZe is! The food is delicious. We tried the chicken shawarma plate with salads, sauces, hummus, falafels and pita. The chicken shawarma was tender and deliciously spiced. The hummus is so creamy and flavorful. The saurkraut tasted homemade as did the pita. The falafels were probably the best I've tasted. We had not stopped in Grass Valley before, but now we know of a great place to eat there.

Geralyn Q.

Yelp
No comparable It IS of ITs Own Harmony! Wonderful atmosphere with health good selections for the Awareness of your Mind and Soul Thank you staff for your compassion and joyful services given each every time Please everyone help the staff by cleaning your tables/area of mess It would be a great help Take ownership and pride where you Enjoy to Eat It takes effort for every person to stop cooking to run around cleaning up after Everybody Thank you Grass Valley bless you all in a perfect Way

Leah S.

Yelp
The food here is amazing every single time. So fresh and delicious. The best Mediterranean food I've found in the greater Sacramento area!

Destiny F.

Yelp
My dish was okay, the customer service wasn't the greatest. They just seemed annoyed especially when needed to make adjustments to your order. It's really small inside but nice. I do enjoy the outdoor seating.

Merrill K.

Yelp
Best falafel anywhere around. Their lamb is also very delish. One half a pita sandwich there is a meal.

Otto O.

Yelp
It's great when the dude is there (really like actually the best thing in town), when he isn't it's a real disaster. High school girls with vacant stares just bumping into each other back there while patrons watch in disbelief as to how this could be so inefficient. Waiting 40 min plus for a simple menu item is just avoidable at best, it's also just not the same food. Really too bad that there doesn't seem to be anyone that can hold it down when the grownup has time off, seriously just go by on a weekend and watch this disaster unfold.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Outstanding food. We placed a large order for 8 of paleo bowls, shawarma bowls and felafel sandwiches, and took it to go. Everything was fresh, from the greens to bright and slightly pickled veggies to the meat and falafel. Everything was sauced to perfection, not too much and not too little. They would easily have earned 5 stars but... We asked about the green sauce because one in our party cannot have cilantro and learned it has both parsley and cilantro. So they readily left it out of one order. They volunteered that the felafel also contains cilantro, which was helpful so it too could be avoided. Just about every entree gets a felafel "as garnish", which is cool. But as it turned out there was cilantro in another component or perhaps even sprinkled on, so that was problematic. We did mention it was a dietary restriction, not a taste preference. All in all, the tastes and textures were amazing, and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Darla D.

Yelp
I don't usually think that healthy (conscious) food would appeal to me but I was taking a friend out for her birthday and this was where she wanted to go. I was very pleasantly impressed with the quality, presentation and taste of the dish we ordered which was the falafel plate that comes with several dips and hummus and salad plus a fresh pita... wow! Super tasty We ordered this to share and added 3 falafels to the normal 5 pieces so we could have 4 each. I definitely want to go again and try some other menu items too.. cost was about $30 which included two hot chai drinks! I definitely recommend and will return!

Steve G.

Yelp
A tasty little gem in downtown Grass Valley! Wholesome, fresh ingredients that make your tastebuds dance! They also have fun, personal sized desserts and special, off the menu soups. Lots of vegan, gf options, which is exactly what we were looking for! The staff knew their menu and were friendly and helpful. Although they have a cozy space to eat inside, we chose to eat in the fresh air. We will be coming back, just wait and see!

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Outstanding Mediterranean food, finally good pita bread and soft falafels, the best falafel in northern California, I have been trying them all. Thank you.

Jessica F.

Yelp
Had a lamb gyro pita to go. Unique combination of flavors... more elevated than most Mediterranean sandwich/plate spots. Highly recommend checking it out!

Jill L.

Yelp
I have eaten a lot of Mediterranean food all over the place, but this was my all-time favorite. Not only are the flavors amazing, the food seems very fresh and authentic. It was definitely the best falafel. I wish this place was closer to where I live, I would come here several times a week. If you're in the area and this kind of food, it's a must try.

Jonathan Q.

Yelp
My wife and I are very grateful to have had the chance to have the MeZe family cater our anniversary gathering. Hands down the best Mediterranean food we ever had, and all of our friends and family couldn't stop talking about delicious and nourishing the spread was. We are very much looking forward to stopping by the restaurant and thanking the chefs and owner in person and having another delicious dining experience. It's very apparent how passionate they are about creating their amazing food. Would highly recommend stopping by MeZe to anyone around Grass Valley or just passing through, :)

Nicole L.

Yelp
So fresh and delicious. Like a flavor explosion with every bite. I've only tried the Paleo Bowl, but I've had it now twice and it's so good. I dream about it. The place is clean and the service is stellar. I told them my mother in law was waiting in the car and my bowl was made in less than a minute. I highly recommend.

David K.

Yelp
Really quite the disappointment. The falafel was burnt on the outside and had the texture of sawdust on the inside. The eggplant dip lacked any smokiness. The vegetable salad was just blah and tabolleh was solid parsley. Very loud wait staff in the kitchen and the bad cover music was painful. Once was enough.

Xavier P.

Yelp
It's very good food and a good staff, but overpriced. I still go there once in a while but if the prices were reasonable, I'd probably go there every time I was in town just for the falafel.

Cecilia M.

Yelp
If I could afford to eat here every day, I would. We moved up here after living in Sonoma and Marin Counties for years so this type of price for top tier clean locally sourced food is standard for us. A lot of establishments I personally have tried in the area have let me down consistently, but MeZe has given me hope that there is amazing food to be had here in Nevada County- you just have to find it. I have yet to eat in, but I will say that the staff have been courteous and kind when I come to pick up my order. Their online ordering system makes it easy to modify items, and when you wish for something on the side, it is actually put aside for you instead of it not being on your plate, and just forgotten about altogether which I appreciate! Every time I go downtown it seems like this spot is quite popular which speaks for itself- the food is amazing!

Olivia K.

Yelp
Perfect and delicious. Every time. The staff are so nice and the food is delicious. It's a wee bit overpriced IMO and they didn't have pita bread the last 3 times I went in, but doesn't retract from the 5 star review. Absolutely wonderful spot and much needed in this community. Thank you MeZe!!

Aldo B.

Yelp
This place is great. Love the freshness and the love! Takes a lil bit to get your order but well worth the wait.

Mika A.

Yelp
Tasty healthy food, great service, and nice ambiance. Super friendly staff. The place was busy but if you're looking for a guilt free meal this place is it.

Steve M.

Yelp
Incredible, high quality food. Hostile management. Inconsistent pricing. Inconsistent order accuracy. Watch your bill total and ensure you got what you paid for before leaving.

j j.

Yelp
Had the falafel dip platter. We shared and added an extra pita. Pitas are soft and pillowy. The dips were all good. There were 5 felafels, tasty and crunchy on outside. The tabbouleh was mostly greens and little bit of bulgar. No other vegies in the tabbouleh. No regular unsweetened ice tea. Plenty of seating. Friendly lady taking orders.

Sing A.

Yelp
Great place and the staff are always welcoming and friendly.Falafel is amazing and I have not have anything here that disappoints!great environment

Jesús C.

Yelp
Food is good, but prices are HIGH. Expected more for $30 Small dishes Less than a 3oz portion of meat A dollop if hummus Lots of filler, rice, cucumber, tomato

Tinsley C.

Yelp
First time trying this cafe and it was delicious! The food we had tasted fresh, very flavorful and we can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu. Plenty of seating inside, quick service and I appreciate their healthy and authentic middle eastern options. I don't understand anyone complaining about the pricing, I think the pricing is spot-on considering their menu is all organic and non-GMO.

Caren L.

Yelp
Out Standing The Food Is over the Top. All made to order very Fresh!!!. Service is always with a smile never a problem with any kind of special order!!! I think it's so important that it's Clean and always smells so Yummy inside!!!

Briana W.

Yelp
Great authentic food, slightly overpriced given the portions in my mind BUT given the lack of this type of food in the area in the end it's probably worth it. Only downside is we ordered online and they messed up our order. We had to go back twice to get it right and they were fairly nice about it.

Laura H.

Yelp
The food was fantastic - fresh, healthy, and flavorful. The kid-friendly plates were much appreciated!

Eyal G.

Yelp
Great quality food especially the falafel and sabich, one of the best I've tasted in California. Super friendly staff and lots of variety in the menu. Highly recommend!

Kylie M.

Yelp
Foods not good, staffs not nice. I've tried many times and have been very disappointed every single time. An employee even yelled at my young child when we were waiting on a narrow hallway to use the bathroom. He literally said "get out of my way!". The other man with the long hair isn't nice either. He Totally ignored me when it was my turn to order and a girl who hadn't clocked in yet had to help me. He didn't even look at me. They also claim to "not have tahini" to dip my dry falafels in. They serve falafel without anything to dip it in. Very strange. As a local, I won't be bringing any visitors here to say the least.

Skylah K.

Yelp
Amazing staff, beyond delicious food, and a beautiful restaurant and outdoor seating area. Shoutout to the manager Chelsea who goes above and beyond!

molly c.

Yelp
Had lunch at MeZe with friends who recommended it. I had the Vegan Bowl. It was one of the best salads I have ever had! An explosions of flavors that mixed beautifully. I would eat there daily if I were a local. People were also very nice. The place was clean and lovely.

Tony P.

Yelp
Some of the most bland, tasteless middle eastern cuisine I have ever tasted and I have tasted a lot of it. I will say that the food was fresh so they get three stars. No comfortable place to sit and too cold to sit outside this time of year. Might be nicer in spring, summer. Thinking this is a "to go" place mostly. Just not my type of place.

Yoko S.

Yelp
The food was amazing and we came here 2 days in a row, and took some food to go for dinner! Lots of dairy free and gluten free options, including their mousse. Good vibe, good service.

Maurice L.

Yelp
We had a great lunch - Fresh pita shawarmas and paleo bowl, tasty kombucha on tap, friendly counter service and a small outdoor seating area with great people watching. Not cheap but the ingredients are top notch, maybe they could be a little more generous with the meat portions but all in all, its good stuff...

Sarah L.

Yelp
Great good and friendly service! Love the Mediterranean food and especially like the hummus plate.
