Best Italian food in Charlotte! We have traveled from Minnesota twice just to the Lasagna. Best flavor and most unique melt in your mouth burst of flavor! We read up on the TSA rules and are bringing it back to MN. Our waiter took such great care of us that we may just book another flight for more. At some point we may get the recipe- but- hey- we will fly here for the food. It’s a 10!

Outstanding! One of the best pizzas in town! Friendly and prompt service. Seating indoors and outdoor. Parking on premises. Reservations advised for weekends. Highly recommended

Google
The service staff extremely friendly but not intrusive. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was the best that I have had. The atmosphere was comfortable and quiet. I have visited this restaurant several times and I've always had a great experience with extremely well prepared food. Also, the beverages that we have ordered have always been prepared quite well. At the end of our dinner last night, a surprise bread pudding dessert was delivered! Menu prices are quite reasonable. I recommend this restaurant highly.

Hard to beat this real Italian food! Service is the best! Atmosphere is nice. Great food! What else do you need ..... The place is alive.

Google
Oh my gosh the Burrata! It’s a must! Continuously serving up some of the most delicious dishes. It’s one of those places where you know it will be good every time. They always start your meal with the most amazing white bean dip & bread. Family friendly - our family loves it!

My family really enjoyed the food here—every dish was flavorful and well-presented—and the service staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Unfortunately, I couldn’t help but notice how the manager spoke to the team. His tone was harsh and demeaning, and I felt it was both disappointing and inhumane to witness. It’s clear the kitchen and front-of-house teams work hard and care about the guest experience; I hope management treats them with the same respect they show customers. I’d love to come back if the overall atmosphere can become as positive as the food and service deserve.

Google
ate here on Father's Day. Had early reservations, place was empty at the time we were there. Service was mediocre at best. Server was very indifferent. Ordered calamari, what a joke. There were literally 5 calamari hidden below a bed of shredded fried zucchini. Pretty pricey for fried vegetables. I don't think we will be back too many other very good Italian restaurants around.

Google
The grilled octopus was devine, my husband and I have been talking about it for the past week. Our pasta dishes were delicious and felt tasted authentic; similar to dishes we’ve had in Europe. We will definitely return soon!

Yelp
The food & Service are outstanding ! Love this place! Everything was so fresh from appetizers to dessert .

Yelp
We have been eating at Mezzanotte for many years now. We are fans of "The Conti Group"..... The food is always very good and so is the service. My wife and I enjoy sitting at the bar to eat. Their Pizza's are outstanding, not cheap but quality never is. We rate this restaurant very high. We also love their higher end dinner restaurant called "Toscana", in South Park....Great food and service!

Yelp
I have been to Mezzanotte a few times and have really enjoyed it! I would say it's a no frills Italian spot with great food, more of a family dinner spot. The staff is always nice and helpful. For starters, the bruschetta is great; the bread is soft and 8 to an order. I've also tried the fried zucchini chips and they were amazing! For entrees I have had the chicken parmesan (very good), tagliolini scampi (my favorite), and the pizzas are perfectly cooked as well! Mezzanotte is a great Italian spot to visit in CLT!

Yelp
We haven't been to Mezzanotte since 2018. This visit on Friday night, I learned that they are part of the Conte restaurant group that also owns Luce, Tuscana, and Viva Roma. They gave us complimentary bread and beans to start. I could have made a meal out of this alone, it was so good ! There was so much flavor in the beans and the bread was so soft. I love that they have large comfy booths. Our waiter said that they make their desserts and housemade pastas downtown and distribute to their other locations. Hubby got their French onion soup. It had very good flavor, but $9 for this tiny cup was a bit much I thought. It had a cheese cracker on top instead of the normal melted cheese. I guess they didn't want to have the cheesy mess to clean off the dishware ? Without the cheese, isn't this just onion soup ? It was not what was expected. I got the ceasar salad and was pleased. The lettuce was properly coated in dressing and it had a cheesy flavor. For dinner my husband got the veal parmesean. It was good. The sauce on the spaghetti that came with it was very flavorful. I got one of the specials: Shrimp in lobster cream sauce. It was soooo good ! The pasta was housemade. There were 5 large shrimp and what I especially liked is that there was no shell on them whatsoever, not even the tail. This made them easy to cut up and distribute the pieces throughout the entree. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. The spinach in the pasta did not seem to add much flavor and was a bit watery. Perhaps if it were flavored in garlic it would be better ? The pasta had a really nice, soft texture and had great flavor with the sauce. Their desserts are all housemade. I got the limoncello cake. It had a very, very light lemony simple syrup poured over it and the cake was very good. My husband got the cannolis and you could taste that the shells were freshly made. Everything was so good I told hubby at least 3 times how much I enjoyed it. With all the back and forth regarding "true Italian", I'm not sure what this qualifies as. To me, it's a middle ground. It's not as American Italian as Little Mama's, but not as Italian as Dolce. To me, it's somewhere in between.... but I don't have an ounce of Italian blood in me so I can only base it on taste and experience at other restaurants.

Yelp
Very good food and service. A bit noisy but acceptable. Looking forward to returning to sample additional entrees.

Yelp
We started our meal with a good order of cheese sticks. We shared a Gorgonzola, pear, and candied pecan salad. We also shared a fungi pizza.the table thought it was good I wasn't fond of the pizza the cheese wasn't browned at all it caused a lack of texture for me. I didn't find the spinach sautéed and it was very plain no flavor The tiramisu. Was delicious, but the moose I was expecting to be soft and easy to cut, but it crumbled when you put your foot through it it was odd not much flavor. The whipped cream was delicious. I reread the moose many hours after I brought it home and it was absolutely delicious so it was just served to me totally frozen

Yelp
The scallop risotto with truffle was outstanding! The service and atmosphere is perfect. We went for a birthday party and were not let down. Definitely will return.!!!

Yelp
Made a reservation, arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes before the reserved time. Greeted by the hostess and told they didn't have a table ready and that they didn't know when one would be available. Waited another 30 minutes past our reservation time before being seated. Never received any sort of apology or explanation about what was taking so long as the hostess disappeared for the whole wait, people were starting to pile up at the door waiting for the hostess to come back. The whole process seemed extremely disorganized. Once we finally got a table, the waitress who severed us was ok, they were nice but spoke so quietly in a busy restaurant no one in my party could hear them and everyone had to ask them multiple times to repeat what they were saying, it did not help that they were wearing a face mask which muffled their voice even more. It got very annoying very quickly trying to talk with the waitress. Food wise, first we ordered a pizza to the table. It was very under cooked, cheese wasn't even fully melted and there was a lot of liquid on the bottom of the tray which made the crust and underside super soggy. The crust was also super doughy (Preface, I don't like doughy pizza), honestly had better pizza at domino's. We also ordered some mozzarella sticks they were your typical fried cheese stick, nothing special there. For my meal I had fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, I ordered this as I was already worried about the quality of food, due to the pizza, and thought to play it safe with an easy dish. Well unfortunately that was a mistake. The sauce was creamy but lacked any sort of flavor, might as well just have given me an unsauced bowl of pasta. Pasta was also way over cooked and very soggy, was the texture of the dumplings in chicken and dumplings. chicken was ok, a little dry. Overall wouldn't recommend. Won't be coming back, there is plenty of way better Italian restaurants in Charlotte.

Yelp
I love their food and usually enjoy their service when dining in with a big group of friends or with my spouse. I recently called for takeout ~ for the first time ~ shortly after they opened at 4:30. When I arrived, the entire restaurant was empty of customers except for one table with two people who had already been served. So why was I treated so curtly? The three employees I encountered were unpleasant. So, I won't hurry back for takeout or dining in.

Yelp
Wonderful local restaurant. Friendly service serving super delicious Italian cuisine.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying that when we made the reservation to eat here, I did not realize they serve pizza as well. So it's entirely possible that their forte is pizza, which no one in my family got. That being said, I was not a huge fan of the food here. We started with the calamari and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was great. The bread was crispy but not too much so and the tomatoes were fresh and there was the perfect amount of balsamic vinegar. The calamari was not great. There was hardly any calamari to begin with. It was mostly fried zucchini strings. Not like I'm complaining about those because they were very good, lots of flavor. The calamari had no flavor unless you ate it with the marinara sauce. My hubby and I split the Linguine Mare with the red (rosso) sauce and the Vitello Parmigiana. The "meat" in both were cooked pretty well but neither dish had much flavor. We did a fair amount of salting. Same with the Fettuccine. My daughter had that and added shrimp. I tasted it and the shrimp was cooked well but the dish had almost no flavor. I'm new to the area, so unfortunately, I will not likely be back to try this place again because everything is new and I want to get to know the area. However, the food here was not bad. And it's entirely possible that the pizza is amazing.

Brett L.

Yelp
Service and food were great. Highly recommend them! I had the fish special and my wife had eggplant. She said it's the best she's had!

Lauren H.

Yelp
The gentleman who waited on us did an impeccable job (per usual). Hands down best, hardest working, most professional wait staff in town. The food is always phenomenal. Husband had pasta of the day (a rigatoni and sausage in cream sauce) and I had the ripieno - we started with the burrata and finished with a berry sorbet which was LIGHT and delicious.

Howard K.

Yelp
Food and service were consistently good as always. This is our go to place especially for their pizza and salads

Harriman J.

Yelp
Food, service and Ambience all excellent! Have visited multiple times and have had excellent experience on each occasion.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere for a special occasion (anniversary). Thoughtful wait staff and convenient parking. We will return soon.

Yelp
Just ok. Not my favorite place for Italian. I am hard to please with a family heritage. I enjoyed the mussels but the chicken marsala was sweeter than I care for. Fettuccine Alfredo was good but lacking

Ted B.

Yelp
Something has changed over there. It used to one of our favored restaurant. Last time we wisited that place was a few months ago. But our last visit 6/27/24 was a disaster. Service was good, polite servers. But food was terrible. We ordered our favorite dishes. My branzino dish was lacking in taste, fish didn't look like European sea bass by size and taste. This is their most expensive dish. My wife ordered prosciutto pizza, but pizza was made from small chunks of some ham but definitely not prosciutto. We sorry to loose our favorite place, but don't want to risk again.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
The food is mediocre at best? Basically no flavor at all. The prices are not super high but not low either for the price they request? The food should be a lot better. I won't be back. This was my second time. The service is terrible too. I'm sitting there with an empty drink and no one even asks or anything. I had to call over a bus boy. I should have given the bus boy the tip

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Mezzanotte is a great place to enjoy Italian cuisine. The owner and employees are friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding. Pizza is baked in a wood fired oven and has quality ingredients-delicious.

Yelp
Amazing food, veal Marsala was great. Bread service, wine, salads all great. Great experience and will be back.

Diane R.

Yelp
Had dinner with friends. We meet here quarterly but this time my food wasn't great Had the chicken Parmesan and a salad. Chicken was very dry and chewy. Broccoli was very salty and not eatable. Salad..I asked for shaved Parmesan and got grated Biggest problem was waitress either didn't speak english well or was new to being a waitress No one ever asked if food was good or bad We are picking a new place to meet and eat.

Diane R.

Yelp
Food, service and wine are always perfect. Highly love this restaurant They generally have specials, but I love the red scarce with pasta dishes. Have a vast wine list as well as good cocktails. It is a vibrant scene with a bar.

Yelp
This is a pretty small place - I really recommend reservations - we didn't and had a moderate wait for early on a Wednesday. Once seated, we were served a basket of crunchy fresh bread and a small bowl of white beans marinated in olive oil. I've never seen this before and wasn't quite sure what to do with the beans. I opted to put some on my bread and then drizzled the bread with the oil I don't know if this was the intent but either way, it was delicious. Now that I think about it, maybe I was supposed to mash the beans in my bread? Anyway, I ordered the chicken piccata with a side of broccoli. It was delicious. The broccoli was roasted and still a tad crisp - it was perfect. My husband ordered the salmon. It came with a spinach salad and very thinly sliced potatoes. The salmon was delicious as well though neither of us were wowed by the potatoes- they were just kinda there. Our friends shared a margarita pizza. They lived in Italy for several years and rate all pizza to that standard. They really enjoyed it. While we all stuck with water, there is a full bar and pretty decent wine list. The desert list had the Italian standby's tiramisu, limoncello cake and cannoli. The restaurant is relatively small, not really intimate, but still a good place for a date night. We'll be back.

Debbie S.

Yelp
Horrible service. We were the only two women dining together. Our waiter paid little attention. I can't actually explain how bad this experience was. A man leaving said " go back to New York." I've never been in restaurant felt abused.
google avatar

Carolee A.

Yelp
I wasn't as impressed as others who highly recommended this restaurant. I was not impressed with the good. Tables close together. Loud.

Yelp
We went here on a trip to Charlotte, and the food and service were both great. I got the Rigatoni Butteri, which comes with Italian sausage and peas in a red cream sauce. It was excellent. We also got a pizza, which was great. I would also recommend the carbonara.
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
This place is always amazing. Great food, great staff, cozy setting. Try the mussel starter and rigatoni buttera main.
google avatar

Denise R.

Yelp
Such good Italian food. My family is always pleased when we dine here. Try the tiramisu it is amazing. They never disappoint. I love that they take the time serving each meal slowly so you can eat at your pace, not rushing you out of the restaurant.

Jim W.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service, convenient location, reasonably priced...there is nothing not to like. Mezzanotte is great!

Jessica L.

Yelp
Looked online and they had reservations available so I booked one for 15 mins from then (they had that option available). When I went to check in the hostess was like did you just make it and I said yes about 15 mins ago and she was rude and said well there are other waiting before you. You'll have to wait. Which I had no issue with, just didn't care for the attitude about it. Also don't allow online reservations within a specific time if you aren't available to accommodate it. Usually love the food and service but this was very off putting.

Yelp
Love this hidden gem! The carpaccio is amazing and the pizza is to die for! Great wine list and nice ambiance. Always impressed with the service, this is a date or friend night staple for us!
google avatar

Tracy C.

Yelp
Made a reservation and went we arrived we were the only ones there on a Tuesday night so it felt like the restaurant was closed down just for us. Appetizers were delicious and entrees too! So good we ordered another carpaccio to take home along with two pizzas. Great atmosphere and service!

Corey C.

Yelp
Great food and service! The ambiance is splendid. Plenty of seating and the bar is nice!

Bob G.

Yelp
The waiter claimed that they are understaffed and she was right. It took an hour and fifteen minutes for the food to be delivered and an hour and half for the fourth person in the group to be served. Then we had to wait 15 minutes to get the check. Not good.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food. Glad we stopped by for dinner. It was so yummy and perfect before we went to see the Grinch that stole Xmas.

Nancy B.

Yelp
Probably the worst service we have ever experienced. The waiter never waited on us from the time we sat down at our table. We had to ask other workers to assist with ordering drinks and food. Had to remind twice staff that it was my husband's Birthday which I called prior to reservation and it was notated. However, no one wanted to wait on us or cared to serve our family. The food and drink - after waiting between appetizer and main entree over an hour on a weeknight was not good. We could not wait to leave this restaurant and we will never be back!!!!

Katie G.

Yelp
We've been coming here for at least 10 years. The food has been reliably delicious. You can have a conversation here without being overpowered by the music or the crowd.

Yelp
Great Neighborhood Italian One of my favorite times of the year, Restaurant week. My wife was in Pittsburgh and returning two days ago and her flight did not get in to 6:40 pm at Charlotte Douglas Airport. Checked was available among restaurants that I wanted to try that I could make get them by an 8:00pm Reservation that was at the same time casual enough to serve someone in travel clothes and MezzaNotte jumped out. This one has been on my list for a couple of years now and for some reason or another, just never made it there. Pulled into the Cell Phone Lot at 6:40 and my wife called at 7:00pm saying she was at baggage claim and would have her luggage shortly and would meet me outside. Left the lot and navigate the traffic at arriving till I saw her and we loaded the car and left. Traffic was relatively light for Charlotte and we made it to MezzaNotte with 25 minutes to spare. Parked the Car and walked in and explained to the owner that we had reservations for 8:00pm but could we go ahead and check in. With a smile, he said or course and escorted us to a nice table overlooking Providence Rd on one side and a rather attractive bar on the other. The owner also introduced us to our server who proved to be excellent although English was not his primary language but he persevered and dinner came out perfect. The owner came by our table additional times during dinner and this hands on engagement was a sign of restaurant well run We started with our beverage orders which for me was iced tea and for my wife, a Black Russian. Restaurant Week features a Pre Fixe menu with three courses. For our first course or appetizer course, my wife ordered Melenzane which is Eggplant stuffed with Caciotta and Mortadella e Parmesan. My wife indicated it had a long time since she had had Eggplant and this presentation was excellent. As for myself, I had the Salmon Carpaccio which was fresh smoked Salmon with fresh dill garnished with arugula. Excellent presentation and one of the best Carpaccio's I've had in a long time. Great flavor, texture and visually appealing. For the main course, we both chose the Veal Saltibocca alla Romana which was Roman Style Veal with prosciutto and sage over roasted potatoes. Great taste and presentation was excellent and portion size was huge.making it one of the best values I've found during Restaurant Week.Portion size was such that we both took some home and guess what we had for dinner last night. After all of this, came deserts. My wife ordered her favorite Tiramisu, a Italian favorite which I went with the Profiteroles which is Cream Puffs filled with Vanilla Cream and topped with Chocolate. Both offerings were excellent Granted that Restaurant Week is just a snap shot of what a restaurant offers but this experience was enough to make both of us to want to go back. Great service and food, good presentation, nice atmosphere and an accommodating management make this a great place for dining and I would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
This place is disgusting! Ordered the risotto with prawns special - it was the most expensive special at 36.95. When it came out, it was 3 regular shrimp with prawn heads laid on the shrimp to try to make the shrimp look like prawns. They actually took prawn heads that came off someone else's plate, had been handled by some stranger, and put them on my food to try to fool me into thinking shrimp were prawns. I've been in F&B for 25+ years. I know the difference between a shrimp and a prawn. And I'll be making a call to the health department about this disgusting practice.
google avatar

Rosie O.

Yelp
Perfect date night spot. I love the ambiance and the delicious comfort food. Definitely reminds me of the Italian restaurants in New York. They have larger booths which is nice for groups. I like being able to see everyone to chat with.
google avatar

Jerrick C.

Yelp
Went here about two weeks ago and sat outside on the patio, which was a bit loud being that it's right on busy Providence road. The food was just okay and not worth the high price. I started with fried calamari which came with little bits of fried zucchini, which I found odd. Then I ordered the ravioli special, which was $24, but the ravioli was undercooked, no where near al dente. The flavors were good but the price just isn't worth the quality

Robyn J.

Yelp
Restaurant review On Nov 1st I went to Mezzanote with my family, we were celebrating a birthday and always had a good experience there. We were able to order our drinks and appetizers fairly quick, and the apps came out about 20 min later. They were very good and we were waiting for the waiter to come back and take our dinner order. One half hour later and asking two bus boys to please find our waiter, we all ordered. I happened to make a slight change on a dish and the waiter didn't know if that would be possible. Forty minutes later we were wondering where our food was. We were told that it's very busy and the food is made fresh and we had to be patient! I felt like a kid in grade school at that point. One hour later(in total) our food arrived and mine was wrong. I ordered a pasta dish with sausage and vodka sauce. What I had was a cold dish of pasta. I commented to the waiter that there was no sausage in my dish and he insisted that it was in there and I SHOULD LOOK A LITTLE HARDER! Needless to say he left our table abruptly and did not return for 10 minutes. When he did return he told me that the kitchen is very busy and I'm not likely to get the sausage. I got up from the table, went to the bar asked for the manager. I told him about my whole dining experience and the attitude from him was extremely aloof. I told him he ruined the birthday we were celebrating and no one should be spoken to like that, and I expected him to go in the kitchen and get me my sausage! I sat back down and within 5 minutes the sausage arrived piping hot.Good thing because by then my pasta was ice cold. In fairness someone appeared with a few small slices of cake, without a word being said. Was that suppose to make me feel better? An apology would have been more appropriate. I also was told that my meal would be free for all my trouble. The bill came and the pasta was NOT taken off. Again it took forever to get the waiter and correct the bill. No I'm sorry- NOTHING. Needless to say I will not be returning and they really need to check their attitude. There are a lot of restaurants out there that you can go to and not be abused! I live in a community with over 700 hundred homes and I plan on posting this for them to see as well. Word travels very fast especially on Facebook! I'm only putting one star because I had to in order to post my review.

Yelp
Great food, good prices, friendly service. The chicken parm was excellent. Good wine selection.

Yelp
Food is always authentic and excellent. Restaurant is quiet enough to talk but not too formal.
google avatar

Erica A.

Yelp
Food was good. Atmosphere a little more casual than other restaurants of this group but overall good place. We will return.

Avira D.

Yelp
Service was nothing out of the ordinary, however I noticed that both the tables next to us, who were sat 5-15 minutes after us got their meals significantly sooner. The menus had a large variety for picky eaters. The fettuccini alfredo was not fettuccini, it was pappardelle. However, the spaghetti and meatballs were awesome and very tastey. The ambiance was awesome. There was a good amount of seating and spaced apart well. The desert menu felt lacking so we ended up not getting any dessert. Price was reasonable for a group of 4. Overall this place was awesome and would come again!
