Comforting food and genuinely kind service We came here for dinner with my grandma, and it turned out to be one of our favorite meals in a while. I had the chicken risotto; the chicken was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. The dish was rich and comforting, just what I was hoping for. My grandma had the lentil soup, and she said it tasted exactly like how it’s made back home in Turkey, which is a huge compliment coming from her, since she’s very picky with food. In fact, she’s been craving that same soup ever since, and we’ll definitely be back for it. A little recommendation would be to add some red chilli flakes /chilli oil for a spice kick for the soup. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to make sure grandma was comfortable, even bringing her hot water (she doesn’t drink tap water), which we really appreciated. The atmosphere was also lovely warm, and relaxed. Would absolutely recommend for both the food and the heartwarming service. 💛

Google
It was a nice treat finding this ambient place in the city. We had mezze lamb burger and ceviche, which are both delicious! Paired with a cocktail and beer was the good choice.

This place had been on my list of places to go to for a while. Finally got around to it yesterday with my wife and we absolutely loved it! My lamb burger was the best lamb I’ve ever had. So soft and flavourful, and surprisingly filling. We really enjoyed the tortillas española and my wife loved her Greek salad. The chicken on it was fantastic. I would absolutely love to come back again and would order the burger again in heart beat!

Google
Outstanding desserts and great service. On a Friday evening, it was crowded and noisy, but still got a seat and got the Berry Cream cake for dessert. Outstanding like all their desserts.

Google
I'm sorry to say that the food quality was not worth the $80 we paid for. The Moroccan Lamb Tangine was extremely sour and gave me a tummy ache. I loved how moist the lamb was but the sauce was appalling and I gave it back to the waiter. I tried my friend's Risotto and it tasted like the flour was not cooked properly so it had a gritty floury bitter flavor. I wish that the food didn't taste so bad but unfortunately my honest review was it was not up to par.

Second trip after a year or two. Fantastic food offered here always a delight. Keep and eye out on the specials board as well as the dessert cabinet. Just make sure you have room left unlike me 😔

Google
Lovely food and atmosphere. The wheelchair accessible entrance is a bit tricky to find from High Street and staff had to unlock it when we left after dinner

Google
Food was absolutely delicious. Both the lamb burger and the dips were amazing, and all the staff were very friendly!

Yelp
Mezze is a very charming space, that gives indulgent traditional vibes. It came up in a search of restaurants near my hotel and I was able to walk there. I didn't get the ordering situation right off the bat. You get a menu from the bar then sit, decide what to order, then place your order at the bar. You also pay when you place your order. I went with the lamb burger and a cider. The fries with the lamb burger were amazing as was the cider. The burger was well prepared but not seasoned the way I prefer. I'd totally return to Mezze and try something else. It's a very cool spot, worth the visit.

Yelp
Mezze bar is a great place to go to if you want some small plates to share for the table. This was our first restaurant that my family and I had the time to sit down and eat while on holiday. We didn't make a reservation and was still able to be seated which is nice since there's five of us. The food was all pretty good. We all felt satisfied and enjoyed it. My favorites were the Parmesan polenta chips and mushroom risotto. All the food on their menu looks great to try and it's hustling and hustling inside as well. They also have sangrias to go with the tapas as well.

Yelp
My husband and I are in Auckland and the weather has been on and off with the rain. We wanted something warm and light so thought Mediterranean or something similar would be great. Found this place nearby through a search. For food, we ordered the Lentil and Tomato soup and Moorish Eggs. Both were warm and tasty. Both were actually quite filling especially with the bread that it comes with. For drinks, my husband had a Flat White and I had a Cool Colada. I can't speak to the Flat White but he said he liked it. I love my Cool Colada. It was a good mix of juices. I really enjoyed the warm berry topping mixed with the coconut cream. Delicious! We ordered at the bar. Drinks came out first then the food. Timing seems standard. Service was good and actually one of the better ones from my experience here so far. Ambiance is cozy with lots of seating choices to choose from. Feels like a mix between a coffee cafe and lounge. We were on some couches by the window with charging outlets nearby. It was pretty comfortable. There are quite a few folks in here working or playing games as well if anyone is looking to do any of that. Overall great and glad we found a decent place to keep us dry from the rain!

Yelp
Teetering between a 3 & 4 star spot, the food pushes this up to a 4. Even though it was a touch overcooked, the fish sandwich was very tasty, and was a great first meal in Auckland. That said our service was a bit weird here, and it was kinda expensive for what it is. Interiors was nice, but not much of a view if that's a priority for you.

Yelp
Best food experience in Auckland! Tapas-style done exactly how it should be. A refined, and rich middle eastern spot tucked in a small alley, that explodes with character as you walk in. A merry environment that ensures a good vibe and a strong array of food, made for a singular night out. Unique drinks, leveled-up mediterranean food, and service that allowed for the customer to be in control of their experience, led the night to be better than ever expected. You need to experience the Mezze Bar for yourself to truly get an idea of how good tapas can be.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted something lighter than a full meal, and this place hit the spot! Great food, decent prices, only the less than prime location brought down the full 5 stars. If they had outdoor seating it would be 5 stars all the way.

Grace R.

Yelp
Good, service, ambiance--Cafe Mezze Bar has it all! Tucked away in a little alley, hubby and I came here after walking away from Chuffed because they were out of everything we wanted to eat. Worked out better for us! I had the Spanish Quiche and hubs had the Moorish Eggs--both were OUTSTANDING!! This place doesn't show up on yelp when you search "breakfast" but if you're in Auckland and want a fantastic breakfast you don't have to hold in your hands, with gracious friendly service and beautiful ambiance, this is the place for you.

Yelp
Came here my first day in Auckland and I couldn't have made a better choice. Had the Lamb Tagine and it was epic. Love Tangine, and this one was really, really good. Came back the next morning for breakfast! Had the Moroccan Eggs - think Shakshuka with meatballs. It was delicious and full of flavor. Came back, for the Tagine, at dinner. Just had to have it again. Had coffee with each meal (Cappuccino, Flat White, Cafe con Leche) and without exception every one was excellent. Good food AND coffee?! Sold!

Yelp
Warm ambience with candle lit tables, mood lighting, and soft decor. Limited vegetarian options, but if you come here and get the lentil soup you will leave satisfied! It's very filling. Enough to share with another person and comes with a warm toast. Hit the spot!

Yelp
Had an awesome meal in this 30 year old Middle Eastern/ Turkish restaurant. We took our family after a long day touring Auckland. My daughter selected this sport because the menu boasted vegan friendly options! They had salads and pita with hummus and cheese dip, potatoes brava, and of course the Turkish lentil soup! I suggested to order the soup for all of us. My family from India used to flavorful home cooked meals back home are a bit fussy! More so the eight year old and the grandpa, but the kid was satisfied with his pita bites spread with a delicious home made pimento cheese dip and fresh carrots after my daughter coaxed him but the adults looked impressed when the waiter brought steaming turrets of red lentils with a side of freshly made pide.Soon our tables were full of wholesome food and I could see satisfied looks on the faces of my family. In short we had a lovely candle light dinner overlooking the famous Queen's street of Auckland. What a blessing to celebrate Father's day like this!

Yelp
A surprisingly perfect find for lunch after an overnight flight. Lovely food (chicken risotto was superb) and drink in a relaxed yet still festive environment. It made the painful 2 hours before hotel check-in a joy. Well done.

Yelp
We had the best brunch ever! The food and drinks were awesome. This is definitely the place to have brunch.

Yelp
Tucked away on a side street off of Queen street, this mid-size Tapas spot is perfect for an after work HH or a date with a friend or other. The Sangria was nice, I will say I have had better. But I have also experienced much worse, so it was alright. Nice music in the background, although the sound level can get a tad high. So sit close to your party when talking. I really enjoyed the scene here, it was casual yet almost trendy. I did not try the food, but it smelled darn good so I will be back.

Yelp
Boxing day 2017, with many restaurants being closed my fiance and I were looking for a place to have dinner with some desperation. Once he found Mezze Bar, and that it was open, we came here with somewhat low expectations. The place itself is quite spacious, once you enter there is a large bar to the left of the room where you place your order and pay, with a lot of tables all around and behind it. I found the service in NZ to be very relaxed and hands-off so it's only fitting that Mezze Bar takes it to the next level where your interaction with servers is quite minimal. It definitely feels more like a cafe than a restaurant, yet the food did not disappoint. We shared the Patatas Bravas (roasted paprika potato chunks with tomato salsa and aioli), Hummus (served with fresh tomato salsa, tahini sauce and warm pita bread) and Feta cheese (drizzled with lemon juice & chilli, dukkah, served with wood fired Turkish bread). He also got himself the Spanish Meatballs (and migas (croutons) in a tomato sherry salsa) after the initial order (which he also had to go to the bar to place). The dishes are relatively small, as is common for tapas/mezze in general, yet sharing four dishes among two people can be more than enough. Everything ranged from being good to very good and was decently priced for the area. This was one of the positive surprises of our trip.

Yelp
Mezze Bar is a great place to go to for a work function, a casual lunch or for a spot of cake and coffee. They serve predominantly Middle Eastern food, plus a range of vegan/vegetarian tapas and mezze options. Last but not least, yummy cakes and puddings! I came here during the week with two colleagues. I had not been to Mezze Bar before, but my two dining companions raved about the delicious food. They both ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad with toasted almonds, vine tomatoes, red pepper, grilled halloumi cheese, fresh herbs and a balsamic vinaigrette ($19). I ordered the Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup drizzled with lemon juice and paprika oil and served with hot Turkish pide bread ($12.50). The Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup was amazing. Perfect balance of spices and the Turkish pide bread on the side was a nice touch. It is also nice to have something warming and delicious in the wintertime! I also tried some of my colleague's Smoked Chicken Salad - the halloumi was to die for and the flavours all worked really well together. Next time, I will definitely be ordering that! The service is friendly and the atmosphere funky and it is a very happening place. I would recommed this place to all, because there will be something for everyone on the menu! Make sure you book!

Yelp
Just went to Mezze for the first time last Friday on a friend's recommendation and I did not know what to expect... Well, to keep it short and sweet: I was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful choice of tapas, some authentic, some with a twist, and... what always wins me over (provided the food is good of course!) great service. My friends and I shared the mezze platter which is perfect for 2 if you just want to nibble. Mezze is obviously really popular as although we came quite early for after-work drinks, it was hard to secure a table. I cannot wait to try more items from their menu so this will be one of my next brunch destinations for sure! One downside for me was that their sangria is not available by the glass. I really wanted to try it but had no one to share a pitcher with as my friends were into white wine and beer... The dessert cabinet was filled with cakes and tarts each more appetising than the other, and I found them decently priced too. So now I am also going to have to try this place for coffee and cake... Life is hard, isn't it!? ;-)

Yelp
A great brunch! Don't let the "Bar" part of it's name mislead you. This spot had some great food and great service. The Maple French toast is amazing. The Bacon & Eggs sounds simple, but it is packed with flavor and perfectly prepared.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The food is indeed top-notch. Came in on a slow Sunday evening and got terrific service while winding our way through a healthy chunk of the tapas menu. My personal favourite was the feta drizzled with lemon juice and chilli - had incredible flavour for such a simple dish! The pan-sizzled garlic and chilli prawns were also fantastic. The meat in the kofte kebab had great flavour, and don't worry about ordering any dip, because it is served on a very generous platter of hummus and tahini. Also partook of the roast carrots, the garlic mushrooms & chorizo, and the roast paprika potato chunks. Not a bad, nor even mediocre, dish in the whole lot! The service was also great. The staff was very friendly, and we had lengthy conversations with not only our waitress but also the bartender and one of the chefs that came out specifically to meet us. Could not be more pleased with this place, and I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit. (Now the only challenge is to pace myself on the tapas so next time I can try one of the tempting offerings from their impressive dessert display!)

Yelp
Looking for Breakfast and we found this on our way to another recommend place, AMAZING !! Absolutely loved this place, character and vibe was on point- Food , a great way to start the day, order the coffee - happy happy happy

Yelp
Mezze Bar is an amazing space - on the first floor overlooking Queen Street it's perfectly removed from the hustle but right in the centre of town. In the day time it's filled with wonderful buttery natural light, and in the evening its spacious enough to stay cool (ish). Unfortunately I've had a bit of a mixed bag from Mezze - sometimes it's been absolutely perfect, with an amazing atmosphere, great service, food, and drinks. But then a couple of times I've been and the service has been crap (they forgot my order once), and food forgettable (a lousily cooked brunch). But it certainly deserves another go, and I'll be back again no doubt.

Yelp
Mezze bar sort of covers all bases. They open at 7 am for breakfast and remain open until late in the evening and can because of a large menu offering. The food for the most part is middle Eastern, items such as fresh hand made Turkish Delight and Egyptian orange cake can be found in the cabinet and there is a large tapas menu. What I do really like about Mezze Bar is they have a separate Vegan menu, it takes the guess work out of it for me. I find the service is always good here, nice atmosphere too. The interiors are confusing but that aside a nice place to hang out and relax no matter what time of the day. I still come here often, though the coffee is a bit hit and miss. The long blacks are too long, or I have become very critical when it comes to caffeine.

Yelp
I like this joint. One time I had to meet someone in the city and couldn't be bothered going home and then going back into the city, so I just went to Mezze Bar and sat in there for like three hours and bought a beer every hour or so. I also got some great bread platter with a little set of oils and so feta cheese. It was fucking great. I think I kind of fiddled with the nice little candles they have. Man, it rocked. The food is probably the cost of normal 'nice cafe' food. So that's good. I'm going to take off one star because their toilets have very annoying doors and are painted a terrible colour. Otherwise, it's all g.

Yelp
Mezze Bar is one of those places which slips your mind until you - in dire need of victuals in the wastelands of the CBD - stumble upon it once again. Not that you forget about it because it is forgettable, rather, in the hype of jazzy new eateries popping up like adverts on your laptop, old favourites tend to get waylaid. Cam J and I were strolling down Queen St on Thursday evening, after dinner on K Rd. We felt like something sweet - and more wine. Where to go? Mezze. It's been around for two decades but manages not to be dated, with an extensive Middle Eastern-inspired menu - but not so big that everything is a scrabble. The atmosphere is open yet cosy, and full of chattering people of all ages going or coming from the theatre, cinema, and surrounding bars. The time before this I went with my boyfriend for a late-night supper - the cerviche was perfect and his lamb kebab came in puddles of hummus which were mopped up with pita. And where else can you get a big slice of lemon tart with cream for $6.50? The thing that always surprises me is you can go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner and every time you're left with the feeling that this is the best place the central city has to offer. So by all means go try out the latest fad café which sprung up since you last visited Ponsonby a week ago - but keep Mezze in the back of your mind for when nothing else will do.

P R.

Yelp
I had the Turkish red lentil soup with warm Turkish bread - OMG so delicious!!! It threw me off because everyone was Asian who worked there so I wasn't sure if the food would taste authentic...it was better than good.

Yelp
Mezze Bar has been around for as long as i can remember. It actually surprises me how many people don't know about it. Mezze is a tapas, espresso and wine bar. One of my favourite central city spots. Located on little high street, tucked away just off Queen street, Mezze bar is very welcoming, cosy and always busy. I particularly like how they have couches plus tables and chairs, i like the option of the comfy couches! Good for lounging on a cold city day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, you name it this is the place! I have been here so many times and tried a large amount of their meals, plus sampled some fantastic antipasto! Personal favs would be: Classic Caesar salad, grilled mushrooms & polenta triangles, the Kofte kebabs, and from the breakfast menu the Huevos Flamencos- soo good. If your after something lighter with a wine, the mezze plate is a great option, the freshly made hummus is fabulous.. On the sweeter (very sweet) side the Baklava is always fantastic! The selection of wine at Mezze is also vast, plenty to chose from with a great global selection. I recently tried the Vina Pomal Rioja, which is a tempranillo from Spain, really yummy. So, if you haven't been here I suggest you give it a whirl. One thing i will say is they are who they are at Mezze, they aren't trying to be 'trendy', so you will either love it, or not enjoy it... I see on their website they are known as an icon in Auckland and have been open 23 years! Cheers,

Yelp
Decided to combat the extremely frosty weather today by visiting the always warm and cosy Mezze Bar on Durham Street East. I had been there before for coffee and naughty mid work day sweet treats, but never for an actual meal. Pictured below is the Turkish lentil and Tomato soup drizzled with lemon juice and paprika oil, served with (hot?) Turkish Pide bread. Although the soup really did hit the winter warmer mark that I hoped for and was reasonably flavourful and seasoned, I was disappointed in the cold Pide bread accompaniment. Nonetheless, not bad for an express work lunch, when you're looking for a central escape from the cold, but definitely better for a coffee date or evening drink! Not too shabby Mezze.

Yelp
* Just OK * Staff are friendly enough * Was not all that impressed with the mushroom risotto * Also had the sticky-date pudding thing * The caramel wasn't quite right, too sugary, granulated-y * It made me a little sad inside so I went home and ate ice-cream, the cheap kind from Countdown...

Erika K.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Auckland! Everything is fresh and delicious! The couches give it a relaxed environment to sip some drinks and munch on the incredible hummus and olives! I couldn't stop raving about the Greek salad. Everyone loved their dishes... Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I have been informed by a former owner that my nostalgia for the Circassan chicken was completely misplaced - it was a feature of their former venture, Caravanserai. So apologies for that. Up to 4 stars for consistency, good service and a nice place to eat - vibe is relaxed and decor is interesting.
google avatar

Anne C.

Yelp
Great space over looking the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. Cute Spanish style decor. Relaxed and loungey, good place for a drink or coffee. But if you are after lunch or dinner and don't want to leave hungry then avoid especially if you were thinking tapas. Value for money is worse than fine dining and without the service. We got prawns for $19 and what turned up was one prawn and a handful of shrimp (over cooked like rubber bullets). So if you are on your way to dinner then probably a good place to stop, otherwise be prepared for $$$
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Situated on Durham St, Mezze Bar is in the perfect location. Overlooking Queen St, this Middle Eastern bistro is a perfect place to meet for coffee, tapas or wine after work. Mezze Bar offer everything from great coffees to decadent cakes, cocktails and wines to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean style meals. One of my favourite dishes at Mezze Bar is the lentil and tomato soup with Turkish bread. The soup is creamy, smokey, spicy - the perfect combination of flavours, and the bread is crisp and crunchy. Most meals are served using traditional Middle Eastern style bowls and plates which really add to the authenticity and atmosphere of the Bar, as does the eclectic decor of Mezze Bar. Tip: Head to Mezze Bar for a delicious healthy lunch and overlook Durham St. With a glass of wine in hand and the sun pouring through the windows, it's a brilliant way to spend a few hours
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
The Mezze Bar occupies the grey space between a cafe, a restaurant, and a bar - contrary to its name it is probably less bar than restaurant and cafe. The breakfast menu is more or less Western (pancakes, French toast, bacon & eggs). The main menu is a Mediterranean African Middle Eastern confusion, but kind of just passes as 'ethnic' if you are not really paying attention. The one thing that takes away from it maybe being considered a restaurant and shifts it further into the cafe category would be that it feels very busy and rushed, I guess partially because of its central location, but largely because people are always just stopping in for casual coffees. Nice earthy decor, a terracotta Moroccon paint job. I would recommend the Spanish Tortilla - simple but delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Mezze Bar is laidback and relaxed and unassuming and unpretentious. All things that are ideal in an inner city bar cum restaurant. It's been there for years, just quietly doing its thing, and while it has never bowed down to food fads or cult statuses, it's always available when you need a bit of Mezze Bar time. I've come here on dates, with girlfriends, with my parents, early afternoon, late at night. You get the gist - it's one of those places were, I think, anything goes. And I like that. First time I ever tried polenta (done properly) was here... and have never made it quite as good myself since.

Ashleigh C.

Yelp
I enjoyed the French toast, it was amazing! Probably the best French toast I've ever had! So good. We also got the hummus platter , a Greek salad, and a tomato and lentil soup. Everything was great! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Delicious food. Turkish coffee was a bummer so if you are looking for a conventional coffee taste then avoid this coffee. Otherwise highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Felicity S.

Yelp
Their breakfasts are awesome. Love the crispy bacon! Always a great escape from a lot of the bustle around. Staff are lovely. Favorite place to grab breaky on those treat yourself days. Tapas and desserts are also great and never had a bad coffee.

Yelp
It was very good. The tapas were off the chain delicious amd the mushroom risotto was also dank. Sangria wasnt the best but definitely not bad. A nive dinner with drink for two will cost you at least $60 but its worth it for a nice date.

Phil A.

Yelp
Will definitely be back from brunch tomorrow. Great mezze and desserts. Would highly recommend the mushroom and chorizo sausage, moorish eggs and orange and almond cake. Kids enjoyed the apple tea too. Cheerful staff and prices in line with any other decent spot.

Yelp
Came here for dinner last night- busy but able to get a table near the front. Shared 2 tapas and 2 mains between 3 of us- the Patatas Bravas were great; can't go wrong with spiced potato, salsa and aioli. Their homemade hummus was good and nicely balanced by classic greek salad. Was a huge fan of their roasted chicken on risotto. Chicken was done perfect, their risotto was creamy and went down like a treat. Recommend! Must come back for their dessert and drinks!
google avatar

Dylan M.

Yelp
I have been here 3-4 times which I guess says what I think about the place. Good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The tapas are all worth a try and the sangria is pretty good too. Worth checking out.

Yelp
Nice cosy restraunt .. and I like they have a vegan menu .. enjoyed the food so much and planning to go again

Yelp
Now this is a great place. Really friendly staff and excellent food. Excellent lentil soup, great Turkish, Spanish, Middle Eastern whatever u want to call this great mix tapas. Def stop here for some killer grub.

Yelp
The first thing I noted was how friendly and helpful the staff were! Then the food came and it was a great balance of spice, serving size and variety. I'll be back for sure as the atmosphere is as warm and cosy as the food and staff.

Abrahim Z.

Yelp
Simple, natural , friendly staff, warm atmosphere and good home made food. The soup was delicious despite the fact that we got there after eight. It is hard to find good and relaxing environment after 8 pm on Sunday. But with some luck, and perseverance we got to Mezz Bar. If there was more adjective to tag on the description of this place , I would have. After dinner, we purchased a delicious ,home made ,blueberry pie for take away that put the final touches on this beautiful brush-stroke of a cozy restaurant. Prices are very reasonable and the convenience of remaining open till 10:00 pm has definitely it's own merits. If you are tired of experiencing same old restaurant or want to impress your significant other or family , then bring them here. You can't go wrong.

Steve S.

Yelp
Great little out of the way destination. Just off Queen Street on the first level, Messe bar never disappoints for a healthy breakfast or lunch with great coffee

Yelp
Delicious tapas and great ambience. Went with a group of friends for food and drinks after a fun CBD activity. Sangria and the Sangria Rose were tasty- not too sweet which can happen sometimes. The food selection was delicious. We ordered many different dishes and I tried most- patatas bravas, slow roasted tomatoes w/ bread, feta cheese, mushrooms and chorizo, hummus, meatballs, tortilla española, and roast carrot. Others ordered the prawns and pate, but they didn't share with the table (rude). Overall, the food was incredibly flavourful and decent portions. We had a lot left over, even though we each just ordered a couple of things. My favourites were the feta with bread and the mushrooms with chorizo. I have no idea where they get the feta from, but it was salty, smooth, and left me craving more. The mushrooms were well seasoned by the chorizo and made this non-fan of mushrooms wish I had ordered that dish for myself. It was bar service only, but the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for groups of any size. Could be a nice place for a first date, as well.

Yelp
Great find in an alley in downtown Auckland. Lamb burger and chips, orange cake, great food cooked with character and heart.
