Diane and I hadn't dined here for several years, so when a friend suggested that we go again, we were game, and I made a reservation. At night's end I regretted not returning sooner.
Calamari Fritti--both rings and tentacles--was a very good starter, supplemented for me by a Bowl of Pasta Fagioli and a Chop Salad with Blue Cheese Crumbles, Mozzarella, and a sweet Basil Vinaigrette Dressing. The soup, dominated by beans interspersed with a few Ditalini Pasta, was one of the largest bowls of soup I have ever encountered. And the tossed salad could have easily served two. A complimentary bread basket filled with slightly toasted slices of rustic bread smeared with butter or dipped in Oil & Vinegar added a nice rough texture to our meal.
Large portions seemed to be the norm. For, my almost fork-tender Veal Marsala boasted multiple scallops of veal, very sweet Marsala Sauce, and an abundant serving of Angel Hair Pasta saturated with the delectable sauce. And, Diane's Veal Parm Alfredo also sported numerous scallops of veal resting on a swelling bed of Penne Pasta. Unfortunately, her veal was tough. And Diane needed to order extra Alfredo Sauce, which quickly arrived.
Our friends liked the Chicken Parm and waxed euphoric over the shrimp-dominated Jambalaya. Cheesy Garlic Bread was also very good.
The white-linen-topped tables with mood lighting created a romantic ambiance. And service by Ali M. was excellent.
We will return here much sooner the next time.
