Getting to the Heart of Rio's Brazilian Soul

"Rio's artsy enclave of cobblestone streets, known for gallery openings and a bohemian vibe."

2 Days in Rio de Janeiro

"Start the day, perhaps, with breakfast (also available to non-guests) at the Hotel Santa Teresa Rio MGallery. Occupying a former colonial-style fazenda in the bohemian Santa Teresa district, this boutique hotel is a veritable refuge in the city. It has managed to preserve its historic architectural features, such as the stone walls and wooden floors, while at the same time introducing modern décor that ranges from indigenous handicraft to works of art by renowned designers such as the Brazilian Modernist Sergio Rodrigues." - The MICHELIN Guide

Hotel Santa Teresa Rio MGallery by Sofitel, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Think of the hotel as a hacienda-style counterpoint to the flashier options on the beach. Part of the mini boutique hotel boom happening in the quiet hilltop neighborhood of Santa Teresa, this former derelict mansion has 44 rooms, all with wood floors, and sun-filtering shutters that nod to the tropical without hitting guests over the head with it. Yes, the service can be uneven—veering between over-attentive and indifferent—but the 80-foot pool, with its view over Santa Teresa’s stately villas to the glittering waters of Guanabara Bay, and lush gardens more than make up for it. The spa here is worth checking out, too."

This hotel is absolutely stunning and a must stay if you want a rustic 5 star experience in Santa Teresa with a beautiful view of the town. The way the rooms and hotel are done is really beautiful keeping to its historic roots but adding a luxury feel. The pool and bar area are beautiful and tranquil with an amazing view and the food is very very good (fish grill lunch menu especially). Finally the staff are extremely attentive from check in throughout the stay giving us a lovely warm welcome and tour, amazing recommendations for restaurants and being very very friendly and approachable. We have stayed at 2 other 5 star hotels during our trip and this was definitely the best in terms of quality and service. It’s also a few mins walk to the main town bit where there’s lovely cafes shops and live music. Would definitely recommend for a stay for part of a Rio trip once you’ve done the beach bit and would definitely return.

Amazing everything. Great location, awesome pool, beautiful suite, and most importantly amazing service! We are a 40 year old couple with a seven year old girl. The hotel didn't have anything planned, but after inquiring they arranged an easter egg hunt in our suite for our seven year old which was a big hit. Service at the restaurant was always excellent, and seemed very sincere! Shout out to Ardo, Anna, and Bryan as well as the front desk. We booked a design loft suite. While the first suite we were provided was very nice, we asked for one like the picture and they were kind enough to accommodate the next night for the balance of our four night stay. Ubers were super easy to get to all sights, beaches, etc.. Thank you MGallery Santa Teresa!

Went to the restaurant for dinner, Vitao, Denilson, Carlos and Thiaggo were fantastic hosts/waiters. Wonderful meal with a beautiful review. 100% recommend. The wine and food options were great, food came out well cooked and delicious. The drinks menu was a wonderful touch which also include a paring treat with each cocktail.

Forgive the long review but it is worth reading it. ||I went with my husband, son, daughter in law and baby granddaughter to MGallery Santa Teresa Hotel in Rio de Janeiro in June, 2025. ||My son and his wife had been here four times before and couldn’t wait to bring my husband and I to see the view and to experience the relaxing and rustic atmosphere. Unfortunately the pool area was under construction and there was no view. However, Rafaela (receptionist) and the hotel manager were very apologetic and eager to make our experience outstanding. ||The hotel’s professionalism ranges from the welcoming and helpful doormen to the restaurant staff! Everyone’s goal is to please the guests and to ensure your stay will be comfortable, happy and unforgettable. ||The Spa massages are reportedly wonderful. I wasn’t able to benefit from them, but my children did and raved about them. The restaurant staff is amazing! You can relish in their breakfast menu (weekends they serve an amazing buffet, but weekdays are smaller a la carte options - delicious nevertheless). I highly recommend the shrimp with heart of palm dinner dish. ||Alex, the barman, is a wizard of drinks and a do-it-all friendly helper. The passion fruit caipirinha was my number one favorite drink which Alex prepared perfectly - with low but just right amount of sugar! My husband enjoyed the lemon caipirinha with low sugar also. Alex saw how stressed I was when I arrived with my granddaughter who needed to be fed, and recognized I had forgotten my drink at the bar. He made a new one, brought to my room, and told me it was “on the house”. Attentive and kind.||I am Brazilian/American and am proud to say that Santa Teresa Hotel leaves nothing behind the best hotels in the world. ||Highly, highly, highly recommend it with absolutely no reservation.

I have so much to say about your hotel. The beauty of the space was remarkable. The location is like none other...but what really sets your hotel apart is the quality of the staff. We truly felt as if we were staying in the home of someone who was a great host rather than a hotel. Every member of your staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable and made us feel special. I have to name Bruno especially for always being so kind and going above and beyond. I would name the others too if I could remember their names but Anna was amazing and the long haired bearded handsome gentleman. Whoever is training or in charge or setting the culture for this hotel is doing a great job. Also, extra credit for that iced coffee 24 hours a day in the lobby. Loved every minute of our stay and we will be back.

Every single dish was perfect, we highliy recommend the Cavaquinha Appatizer, the Octopus main course and the Profiterolis desert! We also need to complement the service, the nicest staff ever, specially the thoughtfull Newton! We will surely be Back!

Been to a lot of boutique hotels worlwids. Hands down my favorite. From the small things like every time I came back to my room towels arranged and chocolates. Even if it was 8pm and back 10:30p or the vanilla scent to help me sleep. Unbelievable and so excited. Special shout out to Bruno who was so helpful for all bespoke requests and Gui who was so welcoming
