Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant & Cantina Review - Breckenridge - Denver - The Infatuation

"Mi Casa is where you should go when you’re craving stiff margaritas and short rib birria tacos. Their Happy Hour runs from 3-5pm, and is one of the better deals in town with two tacos for $8 and a platter of chips, guac, and queso for $9. Mi Casa is also a solid bet for the gluten-free crowd—there’s a dedicated menu full of enchiladas, fajitas, and soups." - Anne Cruz

I would 100% go back, I’m from out of town but can safely say that. I absolutely enjoyed the heck out of this place, literally everything was good from the food to the waiters. I cannot understate how blown away I was. This goes down as one of my favorite Mexican places of all times.

Google
Service was great and the food was great too. They had no problem accommodating our group of 9 ladies. Restroom was clean and roomy.

We arrived around 6pm on Saturday night and there wasn’t many other patrons. We ordered our food and it was good. Our party got the steak nachos and fajita burrito -both were very tasty and great portion sizes. I was impressed with Romaine lettuce being on our order and not iceberg. The child’s quesadilla was just a mini soft taco shell with cheese inside. It was good though. The service was strange after we received our food. Our waitress did not check on us and we kept trying to get her attention to let her know we were ready for the check. She told us the check was upfront. We would not have known this since we were from out of town. The food was good and that is important, but the service could have been better.

Very nice place. Great food and great service.

Google
We decided to try Mi Casa for ourselves and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was great! Wife had a chicken fajita and I tried something entirely new to me called Molcajete Mi Casa. Kind of like a fajita served in a hot large pestal bowl. I got the ribeye, shrimp, and chicken. We also really liked the warm and fresh chips with salsa and the refried beans were also good. Having such a good Mexican food place locally here in Monteagle is such a blessing and a most welcome surprise.

Google
I had an awful experience at this restaurant. Not only was the food terrible, but the Mexican dishes were bland and nothing like authentic flavors. The service was even worse – the staff was rude and dismissive, with some making racist comments under their breath. When we tried to address the issue, they blamed us for the bad experience, accusing us of being overly sensitive. I won’t be returning, and I strongly recommend avoiding this place unless you want to be treated poorly and served garbage food.

Google
We had a wonderful date night! The Queso fundido was incredible! The staff was so nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is perfect for date night. Service was fast and the food was delicious! This restaurant is a must if you’re traveling to or from sewanee.

Google
If you look at my other reviews I am usually very positive, but I was just disappointed in this place. The chips and salsa were very good, but the enchiladas and rice and beans were not good at all. The sauce tasted like tomato soup and the beef was pink and unseasoned. Maybe try something else on the menu.

Yelp
The outside appearance is quite deceiving. My wife and I went in and found a large, immaculate restaurant with a bar full of festive, relaxing ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was served reasonably fast and was outstanding. The tortilla chips and salsa tasted like homemade and were delightful. The entrees were equally as delicious with much care taken.to deliver a superior experience. This restaurant is high on my return to list.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing. Setting was appropriate. Server was very friendly and attentive to us. Chips and salsa are amazing and don't even get me started on how great the food is. Let's just say it's better than some restaurants back home in Texas. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be back

Yelp
Great service, very fast and efficient! The cheese dip is phenomenal. Very clean and comfortable environment.

Yelp
We are visiting Family in Tennessee coming from Oklahoma. And we were driving by and saw the bright outside and decided to turn in. We were not disappointed, the salsa and food was absolutely amazing. The service was great and everyone left happy and stuffed. Needless to say we will be coming here every time we come to Tennessee. This restaurant deserves far more stars! Highly recommend eating here.

Yelp
The outside doesn't compare to the inside, the setup of this restaurant is a nice mix of chic and cozy. The food is nice and they have great customization. The waiters are very kind and keep up well with how you and your table are doing.

Yelp
Driving by several times, we were never sure if this place was open or maybe just didn't exist anymore due to the unkempt nature of the outside. Looked it up and saw it was rated 4.4 and actually open so thought we would try it. Went for lunch today and were seated at an odd table in a booth that was so low, it touched out knees. They did move us after we asked. Looking around, the place was just dirty and nasty. Cob webs everywhere, the glass sign on the wall in the booth area was splattered with who knows what and peeling at the bottom. The place was just run down. The food was pretty subpar. I ordered a trio plate with your pick of several items listed on the menu so I asked for a burrito, chalupa and an enchilada. What I got was a tostada and 2 things that may or may not have been enchiladas. They were all chicken that was ridiculously salty. My husband ordered a combo plate and even though there was no chicken in his dish, he ended up with some type of chicken thing that probably was my chalupa. He agreed that the chicken was super salty! There wasn't an actual bill, we just went to the counter and he calculated our two items, which took longer than it actually should have for just two items, and came up with $28. Now my item was only supposed to be $8.99 and I didn't know what my husband's was until I asked him after we left, which was $14. So with only those two items, it should have been only $23. I wasn't in the mood to argue so I let it be. Overall, I wouldn't recommend or go back. If you're willing to take your chances, make sure you know what you're paying for when you pay the bill.

Yelp
I got a to go order of rice and beans, a bean burrito and chips and salsa. It was your typical Tex-Mex food, but I was slightly disappointed because the red sauce on the burrito was almost like a marinara sauce. To me, I prefer this on Italian food, not Mexican. Otherwise, the chips were really good very light and crispy. I preferred these to the typical chips you would find at a lot of restaurants. The salsa was also very good, and the portions sizes were also well worth the price.

Yelp
I was quite impressed with the presentation of my dishes and also the friendly and service-oriented interactions with staff members. Accolades all around.

Yelp
OMG!!! This place is a treasure!! We pulled in randomly and everything... I mean everything was delicious. We could not believe it. This is the only Mexican restaurant we will go to in the area. Trust is worth it!! Molcajete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
The building is rough but the food is good. From the outside Mi Casa looks a little broken and re-built. Inside it appear the same way. The staff were very friendly. The salsa served with the chips didn't have much flavor or heat. I ordered the chicken fajitas. They were good. Served on a giant grill with rice, beans and sides. I thought the chicken was tasty. I think the food here is much better than the other local restaurants. The building's appearance is beyond just character.

Yelp
My wife and I ordered Carne Mexicana ($11.99) and Carne Timpani? ($12.99) off the menu 3rd page + we ordered a Coke Cola and a Doctor Pepper ($2,99 each and we had no refills) We were charged $48.00 Plus. When i asked the cashier she gave the excuse that was what the meal cost. I'm not going to argue with a worker-bee when the manager is absent but I am putting this warning out to others. We were planning on returning because the food was good but based on the whole experience we will vote with our feet and eat elsewhere. This restaurant is NOT recommended Instead I am recommending if you want mexican cuisine, the El Marguay (formerly La Ranchera) Mexican Restaurant in Tracy City. The food is just as good without the inflated check.

Yelp
Where to start... The restaurant itself was dirty. There were chip crumbs on our seats, dust lining the window sills and I couldn't even bring myself to use the bathroom. Our table had a glass insert in the top with the rim lined in unknown particles and a lovely view of the exposed, stained plywood underneath. We ordered guacamole with our meal and it was literally nothing but mashed Avocado. I ordered the carne asada. The meat was that dry and tough that I couldn't even chew it. The sliced avocado that came on the side also came with chunks of avocado peel. The salsa was pretty good and our waiter was pleasant. Those are the only two positive that I have.

Yelp
Cute place to eat snd friendly staff. The food was just ok. The cheese dip which is our favorite and main reason to go Mexican was almost like water. Super runny and on the spicy side. My daughter has never turned down cheese dip but we left it almost full on the table. Margarita was good and we had fajitas which were ok. Daughter had beef soft taco and asked for sour cream and it did not disappoint! She ate every bite. It will be worth going down the mountain next time for better cheese dip

Yelp
The ground beef was pasty, gray, and tasted awful. Looked like cat food. I ate some of the tortilla and they said I ate half of it which was quite untrue. My kids love tacos but also couldn't eat it with the pasty gross meat. Service was also terrible and never checked on us. The place was empty and I had to go find my own knife to eat (what then I couldn't) with. Also said I couldn't talk to anyone other than calling the restaurant and leaving a message for the owner. Literally made me sick to my stomach. Also very broken down and windowsills next to table where dirty. Menu was torn and worn so much that parts of it we so faded you couldn't read it.

Yelp
This place may be a bit off the beaten path, but it is worth the 5 minute detour off I-24. Yes, it's a typical menu, but the food is delicious! The "from the grill" items are excellent. Try the molcajete for sure! Huge portions of steak, chicken, and shrimp in a hot stone bowl with hot salsa, grilled onions, bell peppers and shredded cheese. The service was great! The staff came by frequently and even stopped to chat with us about their restaurant and the family. They really seem to have pride in their restaurant. The place was clean and roomy. My friend and I were able to enjoy a great dinner and good talk without feeling like all the people around us could overhear our entire conversation. If you're on the road and need a rest stop, don't waste your time on a fast food joint. The service here was fast and it was nice to sit and enjoy an actual meal before gettng back on the road. And most people that are familiar with this portion of I-24 know that a stop at the top of Monteagle is usually a necessity! Give these people some business. You won't be sorry!

Yelp
There were ants crawling all over our first table. Yuck. We moved to another sticky table and ordered. My tacos were simple and the meat was massively over cooked. We're talking rubbery steak. They forgot my sour cream and pico de gallo. The margarita was without flavor and lacked in alcoholic content. The locals seemed to love it, but I didn't see the attraction. Ambiance includes no music and squawking babies. Terrible experience and I wouldn't go back if this was the last Mexican place on earth.

Yelp
This is probably my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Starting with the complimentary chips and salsa, the chips were crispy and light while the salsa was packed with flavor and a touch of heat (several notches above any complimentary salsa I've ever gotten from other Mexican restaurants). The service was prompt and the food was excellent. The beans and rice were some of the best I've had from a restaurant and the presentation for any of the menu items "from the grill" was amazing. This place is a bang for your buck so make sure to bring your appetite because you receive a lot of food. Only downside was that they were out of Chile rellenos. All in all, this is an excellent little Mexican joint with authentic food and great service.

Yelp
This is the "go to", legendary Mexican food choice at lease since 2000. Others come and go, but Mi Casa consistently delivers good "Texacan" food at fair prices, and very good service.

Yelp
When the local VFW closed, many Vets started going to Mi Casa as the "early" crowd (3P-6 P) You would think they would appreciate an "early" crowd since they have virtually no traffic in the early afternoon,(Much less Vets) but no. USE CASH ONLY!!! They seem to have difficulty keeping an accurate tab on the number of drinks ordered and God in Heaven only knows when it will show up on your debit card bank statement. Sewanee college is nearby, so there are plenty of college kids with daddy's credit card to keep them in business, they don't have to worry about the tab, but this is no place for adults! I'm a retired business man, and I've seen more people ruin their reputation over 30$ than 30,000. Mi Casa seems to think their reputation is worth ruining over the price of a few draft beers..... Sad!

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch. Had two beef tacos and my wife had the chicken enchiladas. Waitress brought out chips and salsa... chips were home made but cold. Salsa was a soupy tomato sauce. We ordered two hand made margaritas, tasted like lemonade. The waitress/bartender said she would add more simple syrup. Not much better. My beef tacos were unseasoned and came only with lettuce and cheese on a single tortilla that fell apart as soon as I picked it up. The chicken enchiladas were better according to my wife but was only saved by the salsa Verdi. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants real Mexican food or drink. To bad. Great location.

Yelp
Nothing outstanding. Not terrible, either. Better than Taco Bell, not much creativity. As my friend said to me, "It's lunch." That's about it. I had a burrito. The chicken appeared fresh off the bone, so that's a plus. The staff is good, the atmosphere is okay. If you enjoy your company and temper your expectations, you'll have a pleasant experience.

Yelp
Highly satisfactory! Jasmine our waitress was fantastic and the food was tasty. We enjoyed the outdoor patio, too! Can't go wrong with free chips and salsa. The margaritas were a bit sweet, but had a great amount of alcohol. I'm excited to go back!

Yelp
Honestly, I loved this place. I went back twice in a weeks time, I just don't see why people review this place so poorly. The service is pretty fair, and the price is right. Most of all, the food was authentic and great! I would definitely go back

Kishan P.

Yelp
The best Dr. Pepper I've ever had at any restaurant, has the spicy tingle in the back of your throat and it's not flat.
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
Not great, steak fajitas dry, no real season or flavour to anything. Asked for a spicey cheese dip, had to retrieve the jalapeños from the cheese and chop them up. 1 mile off exit. Kinda wished we just gone to the subway at the exit

T. W.

Yelp
How can you go wrong with mexican food, you may ask? Well start by going to MI CASA! I started by ordering 2 for 1 Margueritas.. it was obviously from a Kool Aid package. . Then I went with the $12.95 Acapulco shrimp. It was supposed to be shrimp in a garlic buttery cilantro sauce and it wasn't. I recognized the flavor. . IT WAS KETCHUP! ! $12.95 for Shrimp in KETCHUP!! Christina, the waitress was cute and nice but I think she also was the chef, and cashier. I honestly feel Violated! This place should be closed for deception to the public. I give it a rating of 1 because I have to rate it but I now change it to -13 for the dollars I was charged for Ketchup Shrimp!

Yelp
We were warned by some to not eat here but one night we just had to eat near town to attend an event and just thought let us give them a try. The food was very bland. Hardly any taste and customer service was just okay. We hardly saw our waiter.Sorry Mi Casa. I hope you can fix things up.

Yelp
I wish I could write a better review for this place. Unfortunately, after receiving one of their ginormous margaritas (it must have been close to 32 ounces!), I was too obliterated to remember much about the food. What I do remember was "it didn't suck". I've had better, but Monteagle, Tennessee, did an admirable job of pulling together its entire Latino community (all 5 of them) to pass off a decent representation of Mexican food.
google avatar

Heather A.

Yelp
I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews-- it's a perfectly yummy Mexican joint. We ate here when we were in Sewanee on business for a few days. I thought the veggie fajitas were delicious. Great drinks, and free chips and salsa. Kind of slow service, but our waitress was really nice.

David M.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and enjoyed it both times. Chips were hot and fresh, salsa was good enough, and the cheese dip fantastic. I love their soft chicken tacos with grilled meat. Prices are reasonable and service is excellent. Their screened in porch feels amazing on a nice evening. I highly recommend it.

Donna-Marie C.

Yelp
Wow! SO clean! SO friendly! And, hands down, the best chili rellenos I have EVER had! I am literally craving their food now!!! This restaurant is definitely worth the drive. I will absolutely be back!!! What a fantastic find in such an out of the way place! Almost makes me wish I'd bought a house in Harvest! :)

Johnny R.

Yelp
Horrific. Most disgusting restaurant I've ever been to. Mouse dropping in men's and women's restrooms. Tables not wiped down. Menus felt nasty to even hold. Dirty windows, floors, everything. Both urinals weren't working in men's room. Extremely slow service even though almost no one in there. Trash cans so full nothing else could fit in there. A nasty dirty diaper hanging out of the trash can in front of building... welcoming guests. The place was awful and should be shut down by health inspectors immediately.

Yelp
Normally we would have given a 4 star rating (5 should be for a place that is very special and rare), however I had to counter the other 2 reviews which must have been written before a change of ownership, management, or personnel, or something. My wife and I ate on a slow Saturday evening, and we were served very politely and promptly all along, prompt drink refills, etc. The menu is like every americanized Mexican restaraunt (98% of Mexican restaurants in the US not counting taquerias). Prices are reasonable. Food tasted great, not too greasy, etc. The best deal was the make your own combo: 2 items for 6.99, 3 for 7.99, includes beans and rice. Got beef tacos (great), beef chimichanga (great beef and tons of good cheese), relleno (great), and tamale (good). Not super authentic (very mild, especially the salsa--ask for the hotter one and put that all over your food), but tasty, clean, great service, good prices.

Steve S.

Yelp
Good Mexican food, but nothing special. The bar is adjacent to the dining area, so it's very loud and rowdy - and this is a Tuesday evening. Not a place for a quiet meal, but the food is OK.

Jimmy D.

Yelp
I was very unsatisfied with this place. A group of 4 of us showed up around 1:30pm on a very slow Monday. When we arrived, there was only one other table with people and a group that was at the front counter talking to what I believe was supposed to be our server. We waited 5 minutes before anyone brought our chips and salsa and took our drink order. 15 minutes later, we still hadn't received our drinks. We chose to try and stay since we were all really craving Mexican food after mountain biking in the area for most of the morning. As we continued to wait, our server was still at the front counter talking to his friends who were about to leave. Finally, we had enough and left started walking out. This got the attention of our server and he asked if we had got our drinks. We replied that we were leaving and he seemed as though it didn't faze him. I will probably never go back here again as the menu didn't have much on it (even for a mexican restaurant) and the service was horrible!
