I don't know why this place is always so crowded...I had a horrible experience.
we went on Friday night around 6:30, expected a 30-45 minute wait and it took around 50 minutes, no big deal. after waiting outside for 30 minutes we decided to see if there was enough room inside to wait, there was so we stood next to the doors and bar entrance.
while we were there we noticed 2 tables in the bar that kept collecting dishes...why wasn't anyone cleaning them? there's an hour long wait and you have 2 tables ready to go but the waiter is too lazy to clean up? on top of that they kept collecting dishes.
we were called after about 20 minutes of waiting inside and on our way to the table we passed 2 tables that were open with seating for 2. why weren't these used? IT'S AN HOUR WAIT, WHY WEREN'T THESE USED??? we got to our table in the back of the restaurant near the patio and quickly realized we were the only ones there. on top of that, there were 6-8 tables around us not being used...WHY??? it's an hour wait!!! we were first uncomfortable at being the only ones back there but no biggie, the tables on both sides of us were dirty, someone will be seated shortly, right? WRONG!!! it wasn't until 30-40 minutes after sitting down that they finally sat another couple next to us. we felt like they were banishing us, leaving us to be forgotten.
after 15 minutes (we had already ordered drinks and food by this point) one of the men in a light blue button up noticed we looked unhappy and went to the back, he came back with a lady dressed like a possible manager. she made a point to come directly to us and ask how we were doing and I told her we felt really awkward sitting alone and she looked around and offered no sympathy, I said, "it sucks to be honest, and it's cold with the vent above us." she said she would turn the air down/off and did within 30 seconds, this is the ONE THING keeping me from a 1 Star review.
onto drinks...my wife had a mambo limousine and it was pretty good for a frozen drink. I started with water. about 3/4 through my dinner I ordered a mojito that took 15 minutes to get and it was probably the worst I've ever had, basically tasted like sprite with extra lime squeezed into it.
now the food...we started with shrimp brochette and they were pretty big shrimp which is always a plus, they weren't the best though, tasted a little dirty or oceany. the crema that came with them was bland as bland can get and offered nothing to compliment the shrimp, it was pointless. the guacamole that came with the shrimp was good with chips but I don't understand who puts guac on their shrimp...weird in my opinion. I was disappointed I didn't see quesadillas on the menu but no worries, I'll get a chimichanga...NOPE, the descriptions says beef or chicken but doesn't specify if it's fajita meat or ground beef/shredded chicken...I HATE THIS. don't make me ask, I don't want to get my hopes up for fajita only to be told it's not...this has happened many places. yes, I understand I could ask for fajita but I'm at the point in my life where I'm tired of asking restaurants about menu items...they should have better descriptions, PERIOD!!! I ended up getting the chicken sunset enchiladas and wife got a combination plate that had a cheese enchilada, pork tamale and beef taco.
the chicken in the enchilada was okay but the chile/cilantro queso that was on top was also bland and offered nothing to compliment the enchilada. my wife's taco was so greasy it was unappetizing, the tamale had no sauce, just dry...and there wasn't enough sauce from the enchilada to help the tamale. the cheese inside the enchilada was NOT melted. the outer portion near the tortilla was but the inside was still pieces of shredded cheese...unacceptable.
all in all we felt the food did not equal the price nor the crowd. we won't be back...maybe if a family member wants to have a celebration dinner there but we won't go on our own. service wasn't bad but not good. it would have been nice to have been asked if we'd like refills instead of motioning to the waiter we needed him. if you're a fan, cool...we're not. I understand how it is, we all like what we like.
