This place is great!! The food is delicious, the drinks are AMAZING and STRONG! The customer service is amazing as well. We had Noah as our server and he was really great. Very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The whole decor and ambiance is also top tier and very luxurious. I would defined recommend.

I enjoyed my experience at Mi Cocina! This has become my new spot for Mexican food. The drinks were very intentionally crafted. The right level of buzz and flavor. The food is well prepared and flavored. I want to namely recognize - Kaylyn and Andre. When I arrived I was promptly greeted and served. Andre provided great recommendation and service. Kaylyn also ensured prompt hospitality as management during the visit. Will be back soon

Best salsa on the planet! The Brisket tacos were flavorful & generous! The green rice pilaf was a pleasant surprise. Welcoming friendly staff with gorgeous decor and lively music. I had to return to Washington with a jar of their outstanding salsa. Thank you for making our vacation extra memorable.. especially Andre;)

Inside has a very modern and clean feel to it. Highly recommend for a date night. The staff were very welcoming and the server was very attentive and nice. Honestly some of the best margaritas I’ve had in Houston. The Mambo Taxi and house margaritas were perfectly mixed and weren’t too strong. The salsa and chips, beans, and rice are some of the best I’ve had in Houston as well. The sunset enchiladas had great flavor. The Deluxe 57 was great since it’s so much food and you get to try a little bit of everything. Finally, the chocolate tres leches was phenomenal!

Google
A nice conversion of the former Seasons 52 space on Westheimer, Mi Cocina offers Tex-Mex cuisine with familiar menu. We tried the recommended Cocina platter, quesadillas, and taco. Ambiance is contemporary; Service is good; Food, however, is quite salty (thus the averaged out 4 star). Didn’t try its margaritas, its cocktails are disappointingly bland. Large space, with a private room by the entrance and a speakeasy bar at the back. Tips: They do not accept reservation; however it is spacious so generally no issues at lunchtime. Fair storefront parking.

Google
Customer service and atmosphere were great. I ordered the Milo which came with enchiladas, rice, beans and a crunchy taco. The portion size was fair but the food was a tad bit salty for me. We also had the Cocina platter which was good but chips were to scorched causing the food to be chewy.

Google
Amazing service by the greeter, waitress and the staff bringing out the food. It was tasty and had a beautiful presentation. Would definitely come again. The free chips and salsa were the best I’ve had!

Google
My girlfriends and I had a wonderful experience dining here today! We were warmly greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in. The food was absolutely amazing, and our waitress, Laura, had such a friendly attitude. She even took the time to walk my friend through the menu and offer suggestions. Thank you, Laura! I will definitely be back for more delicious meals.

Yelp
This place is awesome the food was great the atmosphere was very elegant. What made our experience great was our server Aaron. I want to be honest and say he was the best server we have ever had. Friendly very helpful and he was very attentive. Thank-you Aaron for making us feel special. Need more servers like you.

Yelp
First of all, I have to start of be urging people to try their prix fixe menu by 12/31 because most of the delicious items will never be available again. I had the pollo pica pica which was accompanied by green rice and this vegetable medley that I still have dream about. It was so well seasoned especially the mushroom. The chicken was juicy and the pica pica sauce, pickled onions and queso fresco were great touches. As my appetizer I went with the white queso with chorizo and it was good but I honestly wasn't crazy about it until I reheated it and ate it the following day, sorry chef. It was topped with chorizo of course but the fried onions were the star on day 2. For dessert I ordered the flan which I'd never had before. I'd say it was good but I wouldn't be trying it again. Not because this particular flan was bad, I actually ate the entire thing, I just realized I'm not into the texture of flan at large. My friend had the chocolate tres leches which was really good! For drinks, I had two mocktails (one not pictured, pineapple and cucumber. My friend that I dined with also ordered from the exclusive limited time menu and said everything was delicious. She also ordered a three layers drink and an espresso martini which she deemed the best she'd ever had. Lastly, I have to talk about the service and ambiance. Our server was truly amazing and enthusiastic. He was very attentive and gave great recommendations. The entire staff was truly helpful. The restaurant had dinner lighting as night with lush decor. It'd be perfect for group dinners and I even saw what looked like a private event space at the front. Restrooms were nice although a little messy by the time I got in (which was after closing ). We learned there's a speakeasy in the back so we'll have to go next time we visit. Overall we had an amazing time. The food and service was great. The ambiance made us really comfortable, so much so we had no clue we stayed past closing. Once we checked the time, we did head out immediately though lol.

Yelp
(Edit at the bottom) Where do I begin? I'm trying not to be too irritated by all this, but whoever runs this place has clearly never managed a bar or restaurant. An average person who's been out to eat even a few times could run a more efficient operation. (5 a.m. update from the bathroom: I'm definitely in this situation because of what I ate at Mi Cocina.) We arrived at the time of our reservation, but the table wasn't ready. No big deal. Someone--not the host--escorted us to the "speakeasy" Monkey Bar. There was no bartender, so we waited patiently until one showed up. Once we got drinks, we found ourselves standing in a mostly empty bar. We were then offered a table to sit at while we waited for our dining table. We had a few strange interactions with the waiter in the bar area, which at least provided some laughs. Eventually, we were told our table was ready, but the person who told us bolted, leaving no one to show us where it was. We had to track someone down just to figure out where to go. As soon as we sat down, the waiter tried to take drink orders, even though everyone still had full drinks. Seeing how things were going, we decided to order a few more drinks anyway. One person asked to swap mezcal for tequila in their margarita, but that request seemed like it required an act of God to accomplish. He gave up and went with a mezcal ranch water instead, which another person successfully ordered too. The waiter didn't seem eager to take our food orders and only stopped by after dropping off one drink. We had to flag him down to finally place our food orders. When the food came out, they had no idea who ordered what. Orders were wrong. The fajitas arrived warm--not hot, as they should have been. One order didn't come out at all, and when it finally did, it was sizzling hot, as fajitas should be. Sides were incorrect, and we had to reorder them multiple times. Overall, the food wasn't as hot as expected, the service was terrible, and the restaurant--while looking nice--was half empty, which made the bad service even more absurd. Edit the next day: I received a call from the manager, Armando. He was very apologetic and kind regarding our experience. I appreciated the personal touch, and it was clear that he genuinely cares about the customer experience. He also offered to make it up to us, but at the moment, I'm not interested--maybe someday.

Yelp
So, it's election night and we needed to get dinner close to our apartment in Houston. Between a choice between Mi Cocina and Little Rey's, Mi Cocina won out because we were on Westheimer and it was closer. Besides, we like the place because it's where Seasons 52 used to be. Food selection was plentiful. It was difficult to decide. Beef Fajitas it is, and my wife chose the Spinach enchilada which she raved about. For drink choices, they have an extensive Tequila menu of Margaritas. The one we ordered was delicious! Our server was friendly and attentive. He knew when and what to say about the drinks and the food. He was great! As for the ambiance, the interior is much brighter than when it was Seasons 52. The furniture and the bar look new. Overall, the dining experience, especially the food is worth coming back for. It's a very nice place to get dinner.

Yelp
Came here for Houston Restaurant Week for lunch* The ambiance is super cute. Definitely great for a lunch date or meeting up with the girls. A little upscale so I'd say somewhat dressy. Like I wore a cute dress with sandals. The food tastes great! Unfortunately I don't remember my order ugh! But I attached pics! The tostadas were really good and it was a shrimp meal. The meal was pretty good. The service was quick and their drinks were pretty good. Overall it was a good experience, not super impressed but I'd try it again.

Yelp
We decided to step out of our usual routine and try a new restaurant today, and we ended up at Mi Cocina. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a modern yet cozy vibe. The hostess greeted us with a smile. We were given excellent service! Now, let's talk about the food--simply outstanding. Every dish was a masterpiece. Mi Cocina exceeded our expectations on all fronts, and it's safe to say we've found a new favorite spot. We'll definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Overall no complaints but just ok... service was good! Staff was friendly and helpful. Food/drinks were very fairly priced. The food quality was just average. I would say quality matched the price which is always appreciated. My favorite item was the chicken enchilada. They also have happy hour until 6. Parking was abundant on a Thursday night. Will likely accommodate walk ins but takes reservations. Overall not a bad experience. However, Tex-Mex is a competitive field in Houston so I expected a little more considering the location.

Yelp
So this review is only for their speakeasy, Monkey Bar in the back of the restaurant. They have their own menu. We went for Happy Hour on a Friday evening. They have margarita specials as well as food on the menu. The drinks and food were good! The bar is small but still plenty of seating at and around the bar. Some people even had a surprise birthday party there. Really nice vibes. I would definitely go back to the bar!
google avatar

Likhitha c.

Yelp
We went for my friends birthday as a group of 6 people. The monkey bar was great with a beautiful ambiance and the food was delicious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the amount of times they either forgot forks, napkins, or even to bring the cake out on time. It was just hard to get a hold of a waiter. Also, they bought the food but we all had to wait for utensils for about good 6 minutes. I just love my food hot, other than that a great place to go with your family and friends.

Yelp
We had made a reservation for a large group of us - I was here on a work trip. They had set us in our own room which was really nice since the restaurant was a little loud. Our server was the most friendly and quick guy ever! He checked on us a ton and made sure we had everything we needed which I appreciated since I know serving a large party can be challenging. Our table ordered two different quesos and guacamole to share. I enjoyed the white queso the most. It had jalapeño on it and it was tasty. I liked their salsa they already had for us on the table. I ordered the grouper ranchero as my dinner. It was really good. The fish was cooked very well and had lots of good flavor. I was a little full from all the starters (totally filled up on chips and dip).

Yelp
Decided to visit here for HRW. Was a little skeptical because the 3.9 on yell wasn't promising. However, everything turned out great. Plenty of parking. Was greeted coming in the door. I am so mad I didn't get our waiters name but he was AMAZING! He explained the menu from top to bottom and was spot on. He built rapport and he was quick. The food was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the grouper though. And that drink was on point. It was the frozen popular one everyone talks about. It's extra spacious and has a patio and 21 and up bar in the back for a great girls night out! Loved it!
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
Food was ok. I liked the queso, hate street tacos and skinny margaritas . Although the meat was tasty they were very bare. Double barrel margaritas were delicious. Everything was pretty fairly priced. It was nice to find an average priced place in a higher end area. Our server was sweet but not as knowledgeable. He was hospitable though. The restaurant was very causal, but they have a cute bar area in the back. I'd get cute if I was just going to the back for drinks.
google avatar

Kristin J.

Yelp
I went here with a friend for HRW and we both really loved it! The prices were super affordable and the food was really good. The staff were amazing! The dilemma margarita was probably one of the best margaritas I have ever had especially since there were both strawberry and mango flavors mixed which are my favorites (hence the name). The queso and fajitas were great! The speakeasy was just "ok" to me. There wasn't anything too exciting for me about it compared to other speakeasys in Houston.

Yelp
I have been here twice before posting this review. The first time I went was simply for food after a night of looking at Christmas lights with friends. The restaurant was packed and we were seated rather quickly and the manager was very friendly. The appetizer platter was delicious and my sunset enchiladas were good, but I have had better. The pricing was very affordable considering how beautiful the restaurant looks. It is not your typical Mexican restaurant decor. It has a modern look. The margarita's were strong but still had good flavor. The second time I went was on a date to sit in their hidden bar. The bartender was knowledgeable and it was cute and intimate for talking to my date. I have heard it can get busy though. The drink menu had an old fashioned made with mezcal which I love because I am a tequila girl, but I like a good old fashion as well. I would absolutely go back
google avatar

Yelp
The food entirely missed the mark and I literally have an upset stomache as I write this review. The tortilla soup tasted like it was made a minute before they sent it out. It wasn't hearty, it was watery and they only put a few pieces of tiny chicken pieces in there and you could count the tortilla floating in the water. They tried to overcompensate by tossing crappy clumpy cheese. I callled the manager and she immediately agreed that this was not acceptable and took it back and took it off bill but to my surprise did not comp the rest of the meal that was only so so and lacked real flavor. Ambiance was also dismal as the place was dead with no life there and all the tables were empty as if they rented the location for the day. Hopefully my stomach ache from that meal heals itself. I did appreciate the manager's Good demeanor but a bit surprised she didn't comp the one dish I had after that abysmal attempt at soup. How could her staff not see it as she saw it immediately and so did we.

Pamela Z.

Yelp
I came here with my girl friends on a Saturday evening at like 8:30. No reservation and we were able to sit right away. The atmosphere is vibrant, with perfect lighting, however the restaurant can get quite loud. Our server was very attentive and friendly. He did have to run to the kitchen a couple of times to clarify certain dishes on the menu (unfortunately their items aren't marked as gluten free or otherwise), and I was appreciative of his willingness to do so. The margaritas were really good, and the fajitas were solid/standard. Nothing really blew me away, so I'd say the food is solidly average by Houston's Mexican scene standards. As an fyi for my gluten free friends - there are dishes without cl gluten containing ingredients, but the chef did specify specifically that there is risk of cross contamination in the kitchen. Sounded like they don't have a specific prep space for gluten free dishes.

Yelp
Mi Cocina is a standout restaurant in Houston, Texas, known for its exceptionally flavorful baked chicken that is cooked to perfection. Each piece is tender and juicy, with a golden-brown skin that's seasoned with a blend of spices, creating a mouthwatering taste in every bite. The chicken is baked to lock in the natural flavors while maintaining a texture that is both succulent and satisfying. Complemented by fresh sides and vibrant salsas, this dish is a true highlight of their menu and a testament to their culinary expertise. For anyone in Houston, Mi Cocina is a must-try destination for baked chicken that delivers on taste, quality, and an unforgettable dining experience.

Yelp
Enjoyed a drink and some nachos during Happy Hour. Great atmosphere and the Double Barrel was impressive! I'm more of an Old Fashioned kind of guy and this version of a margarita kind of gives a nod to an Old Fashioned.
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
After going about 3 more times (and less hungry), I realize this is a gentrified upscale Mexican restaurant that you would find in the middle of River Oaks. Pros: Great atmosphere Use quality ingredients (I love their salsa) Great staff & great service Cons: This is originally a Dallas establishment (flavor can be lacking on some dishes). This is what I envision Dallas Mexican food to taste like Not all dishes are great (not a fan of their enchiladas) Don't get me wrong! I will still support this place if I am craving their great appetizers, want to experience a great upscale atmosphere, get great service, maybe have some good drinks before a night out? I'll come here -- but if I want Mexican dishes to knock your socks off, I would go elsewhere.

Shatoyia N.

Yelp
This place is a total vibe. Such a cute place for date night, hanging with the girls or family. We dined in the Monkey Bar which is secluded in the back for a different ambiance. The Monkey Bar does have a different drink menu than the other part of the restaurant. Our bartender Bam was beyond exceptional. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. Honestly, the food is okay. The drinks are great! Definitely will be back just for the vibes and drinks!
google avatar

Anj G.

Yelp
Do not compare this Mi Cocina to the one in Dallas - you will be disappointed. The service was slow and lacked knowledge of their menus. The food was just ok. I expected the brisket tacos to be moist and have the meat sauce on the side (au jus), but it didn't. The cocina changa was pretty good - not a huge fan of fried or cheesy dishes, but it was tasty. The grouper was just ok as well. The most disappointing part of the experience were the drinks. The margaritas tasted syrupy and not fresh. We ordered a skinny margarita and it was definitely a batch cocktail, and the lime tasted like concentrate. The mambo taxi was sweet, but strong - that recipe was consistent to the Dallas experience. I am glad the price was on par with the experience or I would have given them a 1 star....but I don't see myself returning.
google avatar

Maggie J.

Yelp
Went here with some friends who love the location in Dallas. The ambiance of this restaurant is a huge bummer. It kind of felt like eating inside of an airport. The drink service was pretty slow but I found the food to be surprisingly good. l had the pollo moderno which was good, but was underwhelmed by the tortillas. There are just too many good tex-mex joints in Houston to come here.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Mi Cocina is somewhat new to Houston, so this is their first time for them to participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks. That being said, it was our second time to eat there The restaurant's ambience is more modern than your typical Tex Mex eatery. A three course selection for $39 was an exceptional value. We had two appetizers, the Gulf Shrimp Ceviche and Nachos Al Carbon. Both were outstanding in regards to portion sizes and flavors, although the ceviche needed another squeeze of lime. Tacos De Brisket and Deluxe 57 was up next, and it was another taste bonanza.. Dessert was Chocolate Tres Leche and a Praline. I preferred the Praline but the cake was moist and delicious. You gotta go!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Outstanding beef fajita nachos. Salsa was fresh, and chips and queso were solid. Our seissegundos margaritas were great. Excellent service, very quiet Monday afternoon lunch.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Love this hidden gym I honestly thought this place was going to kill my pockets but I didn't see anything over $35. Staff was great shout out to Omar cool waiter. Food was on point that ribeye fajita was off the hook. Definitely don't mind coming back again!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Okay so this restaurant let me tell you!! The service was great and the food was magnificent. I love the ambience it was very nice I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will suggest that you come in and my server was Andre. He was fabulous!! Will I come again.... YES!!
google avatar

M Todd L.

Yelp
We originally came with friends to have drinks in the sorta-kinda hidden bar in the back called Monkey Bar... the Mambo Taxi is the specialty drink of the restaurant, a frozen marg swirled with something. I am not your frozen drink guy, but its good and 2 are gonna put you in an uber...we had the queso blanco on the bar menu, with chorizo and fried onion...SO GOOD! Once our table completely arrived, we moved into the dining room. Its totally an upscale vibe here, but its casual at the same time. It reminded us of DF restaurants. The food on the menu did not disappoint. My husband is from Chihuahua and said there is more Mex on the menu than Tex-Mex, but whatever... I had mamas tacos [fajita beef] he had the grouper ranchero came with Latin stir fry and both with rice, mine red his green. Our table had everything... brisket quesadillas, fajita platter, combo platter, and Rico Salad with spicy chicken Havana and one of the house dressings. NO ONE was disappointed! But listen, the chocolate tres leches was the surprise of the night!!! never new chocolate was a thing in tres leches...well i do now! We liked the vibe and food and drinks were spot on, someone in our group had the double barrel and raved about it. Cocktails are strong here, we all felt like the pricing was in line with the experience and the fresh ingredients. Anyway, Its in River Oaks District on Westheimer and worth the trip if you're outside the loop. We will be back for the Monkey Bar and the main dining room experience, we visit Houston a lot for business, and i was born/raised here. Loved the staff, super friendly, helpful with the options and very welcoming.

Yelp
This Mi Cocinas is the best one on the state of Texas that I've been to. All of the others I went to were In Dallas and did not have the same lively environment as this one. I had the nachos, tortilla soup and a skinny margarita. I've never been a real fan of for food and I still feel the same way. Average Tex- mex food. I would go back though just because the bartenders and staff were extremely friendly and they have a side bar called the Monkey bar that's a little party spot in the back. They stated the back bar is best on the weekend. I went on Thursday and there wasn't really any action.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
In a city where Tex-Mex is amazing, I think it's fair to say that it's hard to impress with Tex-Mex in Houston. My bar for Tex-Mex is El Tiempo, and I really like Los Tios as well. Unfortunately, Mi Cocina doesn't even come close to comparing to those two. Don't get me wrong: Mi Cocina's service was nice, and the food was perfectly edible, but it just wan't that great. The only item we ordered that was above-average was the Mambo Taxi, a delicious combo of sangria and margarita--so good. For me, the real measures of a Tex-Mex restaurant are the tortillas--the tortillas that came with our beef fajitas were the store-bought kind that you'd buy at Kroger (not HEB--HEB's tortillas are awesome), so not very good. And the fajita beef was a little tough and bland. I also ordered the tortilla soup, and it was perfectly fine. Another downside of Mi Cocina is that they don't take reservations--to be fair, the restaurant is massive, so you might not have trouble getting in (we had no issues at lunchtime on a Sunday), but I hate making plans with friends when we don't have a reservation.

Yelp
VERY disappointed. One of our group had been raving we needed to try. Meh. Nothing special and on the expensive side. Just disappointingly nothing special.

Yelp
I should have put makeup on.. used to go to the dallas locations for 10 years... was in the area ... so excited to come in !! Food is still consistent after all these years !! I will be back

Yelp
First time here ..food was better than I expected. Hostess was nice as well as owner and manager walked around asking how everything was .ambiance is very nice .
google avatar

Yelp
Drinks were good! Service was good! Food was abysmal Go to Blanco or El Tiempo instead
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
Ethan was our server. Attentive and fast. Food was delicious - they have dedicated vegan options which is rare in an omnivore Tex-Mex restaurant. Ambiance is classy, clean lines, modern, and understated. Monkey Bar is secluded and quiet. A great place to watch sports or have a conversational date. An excellent choice for happy hour or to avoid traffic. Open until 10pm during the week.
google avatar

Desmond G.

Yelp
This place hasn't been found out just yet so I'm going to enjoy it for now. The food was great. Fresh Guacamole and the some of the best chips I've. The best part of the meal was the margarita!
google avatar

Lynn G.

Yelp
For the service, I'd give this place 1 star. Our server Michael was so unpleasant, he seemed to be in a rush for every little thing, almost like we bothered him that we weren't moving fast enough. Towards the end of the night we could tell he wanted us out of there, he brought our checks and said verbatim, "I'm just waiting on you guys to close out so I can leave." Um excuse me? Lol. It was our friends birthday and he was so in a rush he walked off mid song, hilarious. I'd give this place another shot as long as I don't sit in his section. The food was very decently price, as well as the drinks. Given the River Oaks area, you just can't argue with the price point. I had the crispy enchiladas which were good as the skinny smash drink. The menu has lots of options, and the ambience is nice and casual.

Bailey T.

Yelp
Went twice in the last 2 months. Both for larger groups. They split bills. Parking lot as well as garage. Nice decor, well lit (not too dark). Staff professional, friendly, nice, patient. Good portions. Queso and avocado apps yummy. We had the chicken tortilla soup - large portion - beef fajitas, bacon wrapped shrimp, and several other dishes that were very good. Nice selection of drinks including wine. Their jalapeño frozen margarita was delish. Def recommend.

Evelyn A.

Yelp
I would love to leave a food review, but unfortunately no one ever took our order. We waited for about an hour and no one checked on us, so we left. The fact that it was pretty empty for a Friday night says a lot too. I give it 2-3 years tops before it permanently closes.
google avatar

Mike N.

Yelp
Bad tortillas, flavorless meat.. won't make it in this town full of great options. Asked for more characters... so here goes... Bartender repeated the wrong temp, wrong tortillas back... it wasn't busy... Drinks are premixed and taste that way...

Fletcher B.

Yelp
Went there with 3 other friends. We were sat at a bar despite plenty of open tables, and one of our menus was disgusting full of what appeared to be salsa... Once seated we received the worst service of our lives. Don't finish your water in a timely manner as no one was giving us refills. Same goes for chips, which we had to eat as it took forever to even order. It was not overly busy, but 3 different people waited us and all were slow. It took them over half an hour to get the check. Food was bad, but the service was by far the worst in the city, possible the state. Would never go back here. Only good thing about the experience was leaving. Would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Dallas based restaurant. Great people working there. Good ambiance with contemporary feel. Food was good. More or less Tex-Mex. Try their margaritas!! I'm a on the rocks type guy but the frozen ones were good. I got the black barrel marg. Good for the stronger drinkers. For the ladies the Mambo is recommended my gf loved it. There's bar way in the back... highly recommend.

Yelp
Really Awesome dining experience especially the GM or the manager there who came check on us frequently and making sure our food are good and if items came out just a bit late which i don't even notice : he comp that meal which is really surprising. He truly makes our dining experience so much more enjoyable and special. The portion is huge and enough for 4 to share between the two of us. At the end we have some left over and he pack us some more fresh order of chips and dips to go home with. We will be back to try other items soon. They have covered patio with ceiling fan which is great to bring pets along. Super pet friendly. Thanks again for this awesome experience.

Yelp
So excited for Mi Cocina to have returned to Houston! Having moved to Houston from DFW, Mi Cocina was a favorite spot of mine. The Tacos Habana is my regular go-to. Excellent food and service!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't give it anything above one star. The good - the taxi margarita was stupendous, and the atmosphere was very nice. Service was good! Now for the bad - like many people have mentioned on here, the food qualities absolutely atrocious. The tortillas are pretty much store-bought, the chicken was extremely salty. I had originally ordered fish tacos, and the presentation was awful, it literally look like a defrosted Mexican meal. The salsa was bland, and the chips were hard. I had to send my food back twice and the manager was very apologetic. The beans were OK not stupendous. To be honest, the only good thing was the chicken soup which I had a cup and also the ceviche wasn't bad either. Overall, I wouldn't go back, way too many better options around the area, such as Ninfa's uptown and Escalante down the street . Judging by the Friday night there were a lot of empty booths and hardly anyone at the secret bar next-door. Hopefully ownership gets together and drastically improves the food quality, lay off the salt, start doing homemade tortillas, and overall revamp the menu. This is Houston not Dallas. We have higher standards when it comes to food especially Mexican food.

Yelp
A great Dallas transplant, Mi Cocina provides a unique spin on Tex Mex with very flavorful food. The mambo taxi and sunset style beef fajitas are standouts on the menu. The salsa and queso can sometimes be a little spicy.

Yelp
I had a great experience at Mi Cocina! As one of my favorite spots in Dallas, I was excited to hear they had come to Houston. Parking (valet or self), atmosphere, service, and drinks were all a 10/10! Our waitress was truly top-notch and attentive throughout our dinner. For drinks, we had to go with the famous mambo taxis. For dinner, we tried the deluxe 57, which offers a cheese enchilada, chicken enchilada, beef enchilada, beef taco, pork tamale, and rice and beans -- a great option to try a variety of foods offered. We also had a plate of cheese enchiladas and started with the queso blanco. The food could have been slightly better/warmer, which is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars, but I'd highly recommend trying out this spot! I'll definitely be back. If you aren't looking for dinner, you can also check out their bar -- Monkey Bar. We checked it out while we were there; very spacious with a cool vibe, plus more specialty cocktails offered in addition to their restaurant cocktail menu.
