Brian Malarkey Delves Into Baja-Asian Street Food | Eater San Diego

"I sampled Venezuelan staples like corn-flour arepas and fried plantain sandwiches as well as other Latin American dishes — including a Colombian beef steak with pork belly — at this new National City eatery." - Keri Bridgwater

National City Restaurants to Visit | Eater San Diego

"Dive into San Diego’s only Venezuelan restaurant, which serves corn flour arepas, fried plantain sandwiches, and refreshing papelon lemonade. Mexican, Colombian, and Central American plates also appear on the menu, along with dishes fusing ingredients from across all latitudes of the Americas." - Mario A. Cortez

Venezuelan Fusion Restaurant Opens in National City | Eater San Diego

"On Highland Avenue in National City, a new eatery highlights the flavors of Venezuela and greater Latin America. At Mi Pana Latin American Cuisine I found a menu built around classic Venezuelan staples—corn flour arepas, yucca roots, and fried plantain sandwiches—alongside dishes from other countries such as Colombian beef steak with pork belly and fried egg and Mexican sopes and enchiladas. Some signature items blend cuisines, including arepas stuffed with Mexican al pastor pork or with fried egg and bacon, and yucca fries topped with carne asada as a nod to Southern California’s carne asada fries. I learned from proprietor Augusto Lopez, a Venezuelan native, that he opened the restaurant because of the lack of Venezuelan food in San Diego while also offering broader Latin American dishes to appeal to diners more familiar with those cuisines. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mi Pana is also aiming to be a hub for the local Venezuelan community through community events and benefit drives; as Lopez notes, “There are a bit over 5,000 Venezuelans living in San Diego, and I always had the desire to open up a Venezuelan restaurant so that we can feel represented here.”" - Mario A. Great find in National City in a strip mall. Unimposing storefront but clean interior and was not crowded on a Saturday evening. Despite ordering for dine in, the food came in take out containers, which was nice because serving sizes were big enough that I had leftovers. Menu is extensive and will certainly be back to try other things.

Food is decent but absolutely not the best in SD. Customer service can definitely improve. The older guy in the cashier was the only one that greeted us. The ladies working there have no clue what there doing. Not one time did our server approached us after dropping the food off. The time of the food being serve was fast something I love. 3 stars for the food mainly because it lacked on flavor. Portion is great, price not bad. I paid a lil over 25 dlls for 5 Roll Tacos, Bandeja de Paisa n 2 water bottles. Bathrooms where clean, to me that’s a must. Clean bathrooms equals clean employees lol... Needs improvement but overall a nice restaurant.

Great arepas! We also tried the cachapas, tequeños, pasteles and the empanadas. All was good. If you have a taste for Venezuelan food you should swing by Mi Pana.

The passion fruit drink was sooooo good! The food was tasteful too! Yummm the service was a little off, not friendly, I almost felt as thought I was bothering them to order my food. I’ll probably order on an app next time

The best Latin American food I ever had in SD. Not to be confused with Mexican food of tacos. Mi Pana offers great dishes from places like columbia, venezuela, and other South American countries. Great prices and broad menu offers different options to the typical South SD favorites.

Wow! This place has a variety of delicious dishes, 🥘🌮🥗one of their specials is this one called " mi pana yuca fries" is one delicious fried Yuca, with the meat of your choice, and it's topped with melted cheese, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and a special secret mi pana sauce. One of the best Colombian food restaurants in San Diego. :) The team members are so nice and helpful!

Their food is... simply delicious! I've tried many of the dishes here and they're always tasty. I'm always satisfied with the portions and with their taste. Patacones Arepas Aretacos Pabellón criollo All of these are really good, and it makes this restaurant one of my favorite restaurants. The only thing that I haven't liked from here is the "arroz con leche", but it might just be the way that they do it in Venezuela. If you haven't been here, you should definitely give it a try.
