I usually don't even leave reviews, let alone a bad one!
Has it had new management? This is the second time in recent years the food has not been too good…
I love mexicanfood and have had * pretty decent - great* Mi Pueblo in the years before...
Their Agua Frescas, horchata is always on point, puntooo.
I usually opt for my more tried & true restaurants now more central in SW Detroit near Vernor now and only order Mi Pueblo via apps for pickup.
I grew up eating mexican food and I’m a foodie so I may be a bit of an aficionado, worked in food.
With that being said…
Tacos a La Carte carne were so bland & blanquito… why? where is the sazon mi gente up in the pueblooo express? In love, add seasoning folks. Not only was it unseasoned, but it tasted old. Like when you reheat steak from a day or so ago? Which is fine as far as food safety but not great as far as how food tastes. I tried to cover it up with the lime but it was apparent even through sauces and lime.
Salsa they gave me for the tacos was bland and looked like it had oil in it (?)
The Enchiladas Clasicas Dinner enchilada sauce tasted like what had to be store bought sauce.
Jar sauce vibes and lacked depth of flavor. I want the sauce prepared by Mexican chefs at least mostly from scratch or with some of the aromatics (onion, garlic), chiles, & herbs added because I understand adding sauces for ease and to make it stretch + restaurant quantities.
Then they add tomatoes, sour cream and lettuce on the side for you for free… I dont eat those things with mine personally, it reminds me of more of an American thing?
It’s cool having it, but I’d suggest to Mi Pueblo to let the side salad & sour cream be an optional add on to save money. Then they would use that money to buy more oregano, spices, chiles, use those tomatoes to make sauces and marinades for the actual entrees.
Chips (ONLY) overcooked no salt, no citrus... tasted burnt every bite.
Only thing that tasted good this time was the Guacamole, rice and beans.
Majorly disappointed.
