The Best Tex-Mex Restaurants in Houston - Eater Houston

"Find yourself in Humble, Shenandoah, or Spring, and you must take a trip to Mi Rancho. Here, the drinks are strong, and the menu, packed with Tex-Mex staples like queso-topped chimichangas, chile rellenos, tacos, and fajitas, including the signature El Refu, which comes loaded with a cheesy combination of beef, chicken, bacon, shrimp, mushrooms, broccoli, and cauliflower. For a lighter option, go for the Totolan, a platter that comes stocked with grilled jumbo shrimp and a chicken breast topped with Monterey Jack cheese and served with a side of soupy charro beans, rice, guac, and tortillas." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

Outstanding Service Every Time! Kenya is my favorite bartender never disappoints! Every visit, she delivers top-notch customer service with a warm, welcoming attitude. The drinks are always made perfectly, just the way I like them, and she is incredibly attentive when it comes to placing and checking on food orders. Her professionalism and consistency truly makes every experience enjoyable. She is the bartender that is a big part of why this restaurant is my go-to spot. Highly recommend!

At first sight the impression was not good. I didn't care much for the location. It's in a shopping center. I came here to eat with a groups of people and this is the place that was chosen. It was my understanding that they were able to accommodate our group on the very same day. We had a group of about 10 people and we were seated near the bar area. The place looks very nice as you enter. I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu is extensive has lots to offer. The prices seemed reasonable to an extent. They took our orders right away as I chomped down on their chips and salsa. The salsas, both red and green, were tasty and not too spicy. The chips were okay but nothing out of the ordinary. The food had an authentic taste and was reasonably priced for the portions. The food came quickly after we had ordered but we never did get our chips or drinks refreshed. My drink sat empty for the rest of my meal. Our conversations ran long but we never felt as if anyone was trying to get rid of us. As we discussed a number of things, I couldn't hold out anymore and ordered a sweet tea. The young lady in charge of drinks turned to another coworker and said in Spanish, he wants tea but had ordered water. I could have made a scene but he came over and took my card and charge me the $4 for the tea. I was so thirsty at this point they could of charged me 20 for it and I would have payed. Give them a visit and let us know how your experience goes. Btw, their reviews on their rice and charro beans are true; They are good.

Google
10/10 food and Alondra was the BEST server I’ve had in years, she was attentive, kind, and got our food out extremely quickly, even suggested a delicious dessert! Facility was extremely tidy was well! Will definitely be coming back for date night since Alondra made our experience so special ❤️

I've been coming to Mi Rancho for over five years, and it's become my go-to. The drinks are fantastic — creative, well-made, and the perfect complement to their delicious, authentic food. Adela is exceptional; she treats us like family, remembers our orders, and always makes sure everything is perfect. We always request her when we visit. Great atmosphere, great staff, and consistently top-quality food and drinks — highly recommend!

Google
We've been coming to Mi Rancho for over five years, and it just keeps getting better. Adela is outstanding — she treats us like family, not just customers. We always request her because she remembers our orders, checks everything is perfect, and goes above and beyond to make our visits special. The food is consistently delicious and authentic, and the service is warm and attentive. If you want great Mexican food and a welcoming atmosphere, Mi Rancho is the place — and ask for Adela!

Google
A great place to feast after a long flight, service was fast and the food was the perfect blend of Mexican and Texican. The limes served with the seltzer were nothing short of transcendent, each one a citrus colossus, radiant and full of promise. Their aroma alone could have rewritten the rules of scent, fresh and mysterious like a lime that had wandered through a dream. Squeezing them into the glass felt like unlocking a secret, joy-filled portal to a zestier, more flavorful universe. Come for the food, stay for the limes, which are also food.

Yelp
Well, we finally made it over to Mi Rancho's Grill & Bar, and it was one of those meals that makes you already think about the next visit before you're even done. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with a hard shell taco, and wow... that cheese was everything. Melted, gooey, dreamy, and spread everywhere I love cheese to be, basically a blanket of happiness. The enchiladas were flavorful and satisfying, and the taco, while super tasty, was a little soggy on the underside since I got to it last (my fault, lesson learned: always eat the taco first!). Still, no complaints, it disappeared quickly. The only thing I wished was that the plate came with beans to round it out, but otherwise, the flavors were spot-on. My man ordered the another enchilada plate, and he was just as impressed. He kept going on about how well-seasoned everything was, and judging by how quickly his plate was empty, I'd say it was a winner. His 8-year-old son, who usually turns food into a negotiation, ordered the chicken nuggets and fries. He had no complaints, and if you've ever eaten with an 8-year-old, you know that's basically the highest praise you can get. Here's the real shocker, I always have leftovers, but not this time. I couldn't stop!! Every bite was too good to "save for later." We ate early since we had a minor with us, so we skipped the margaritas (next time those will be mine Mi Rancho, mark my words ). On top of the food, the décor was really pleasing to the eye, and the ambience had that warm, inviting vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. Friendly staff, comfortable setting, and food that makes you smile. What more could you ask for? We had almost lost hope in finding the flavors we love this close to home, having to rely on some of our favorites deeper in Houston, but Mi Rancho's came through in the best way possible. This is now our place! I'm already counting down to the next visit.

Yelp
The food was good. It was your typical Tex mex menu style food. The service was pretty fast and only took about 15-20 min to receive our food from the time we ordered. The food came out hot and the ambiance is nice as well. Pretty big space with a decent crowd for a Friday night. Also they have margaritas during happy hour 6.99, add a $1 if you want flavor.

Yelp
My food tastes burnt then I realize by looking at the bottom on my pan this is why. Mi rancho i had hope that i could be a customer again but that will be a no again. The last time i ate there i had a piece of gum sealing my silverware napkin.

Yelp
Had lunch today with a great group of ladies, we talked, laughed and enjoyed each other's company. The service was slow but the food was good. I had the taco salad and the fajitas egg rolls. It was delicious

Yelp
Went on a Sunday afternoon, it was pretty empty when I got there. The salsa and chips were good. Our food came out quick but downside to that is it was just warmed up food. Plate came out super hot and I was blowing my food before eating, my food was barely warmed. It was very disappointing. My husband got the fajitas, he said those were good but he was also disappointed that his tortillas were just store bought. The worst part was everything was ridiculous overpriced for all that. Two ppl we spent almost $60 for store bought and barely warmed up food. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Jacquelyn A.

Yelp
We ordered a sizzler for 3 because a sizzler for 2 was not enough. Order accordingly. The food came out really quick.

Yelp
We stopped by for lunch and the food was delicious. Although parking can be challenging when busy, it is worth the hassle. The ambiance is Mexican style with a unique piece of art in the center; a metal apple tree and picture of famous Spanish singers. Food - 4 stars We ordered enchiladas, chimichangas, and poblano parillada for the adults and for the kids, nuggets and a hamburger. The enchiladas were delicious and the charros beans were seasoned well. The poblano parrillada (fajitas, chicken sizzled on a pan) was absolutely tasty and delicious. It was not too spicy, just right. The nuggets were shaped like animals and came with three pieces. Customer service - 4 stars Our waiter was nice, friendly, and fast. The other staff were friendly as well. Price - 2-3 dollar signs The prices are about the same as other restaurants. For two people you can easily spend around $30 dollars Cleanliness- 4stars The restaurant was clean and presentable. Restroom - stars N/A

Yelp
We've been coming here for years. Food is always good, we was celebraeing my husband's birthday last night. We told two people working there that it was his birthday. I saw them coming our way, so I started recording, and they went to the table next to us. I saw a couple of the servers talking and looking our way, but nobody came over to sing Happy Birthday to my husband. That family was Hispanic, and we're Black. Our bill was nearly $300. You've lost a customer. I will never go back there again!

Yelp
Great ambiance , food and service. Even though it was busy there was no wait. We ordered food and drinks and got them fairly quickly. I got the tacos mexicanos and got to try the fajita bowl. Both were very good and filling. The service was friendly and quick. There were quick a few large parties with families and children. I was happily surprised that a Mariachi band showed up just after seven. They're very talented and add to the ambiance. You can request any song you want, don't forget to bring cash with you to tip them. I'll definitely be back more frequently. My martini was also good.

Yelp
Amazing service great food and it got to us extremely quick would recommend it's the best thing I've hade in Texas

Yelp
Our server Carlos gave us great service and an incredible experience! Our server recommended fajitas with chicken and it came with broccoli, onions, refried beans, rice, and I chose corn tortillas and it was amazing! The portion was for one person but I shared with my wife and it was more than enough. The portions are large and the Mexican food is authentically good! The restaurant is clean and looks authentically Mexican with an elegant and casual touch to it. I definitely recommend this mexican restaurant if you're nearby the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and want good food. For the desert we got Tres Leches but the cake didn't take like authentic Mexican tres leches. It was sour and tasted odd. That's my only complaint, everything else way great!
google avatar

Dennis J.

Yelp
Everything was great, also the drinks, and food were delicious, I will definitely recommend this restaurant and I will definitely revisit.
google avatar

Letrecia A.

Yelp
My cousin loves Mexican food and this is one of her favorite spots, so she was so kind to treat us here. My fajitas were off the chain. Usually when I go to Mexican restaurants I usually don't care for the beans, but those beans were fire too. Don't let me forget my jualpeno margarita with just the right heat and tasted delicious. This has been marked one of my favorite spots in Texas. I'll definitely come back here.
google avatar

Keisha F.

Yelp
This isn't Pappasitos so don't expect that level of when it comes to the cuisine. The food is still pretty good and the drinks are amazing! They have a flight and it's four choices of margaritas. If I'm not mistaken Sitos use to have 4 and now they've brought it back they have 3! Somebody coercer me if I'm wrong. People were coming in droves so it's pretty popular. I had eaten earlier so I had the quesadillas; how can you mess that up. My friends frequent the location often so next time I'll try something different. It wasn't too noisy, just your basic table conversations. The service was pretty decent..the drinks are definitely taken care of more. No one had an issue with their food and everything came out nice and hot! If you're looking for good old Tex Mex this may be the place for you! Pásate por aquí y pruébalo or stop on by and give it a try!

Yelp
Super fast super delicious Mexican food. The price point was perfect. I had a stuffed deep fried avocado for the first time and absolutely devoured every bite.

William R.

Yelp
The service was fast on serving the food less than 10 minutes. But appetizers and combo plates were all brought out at once. The nachos were terrible the chips were soggy and you couldn't pick them up. Tried to talk to waitress but she said be cause they had beans on them. At least that is what I think se said; he English was very hard to understand. The enchiladas were har like they had been sitting and overcooked under a heat lamp. There was lots of lettuce and tomatoes and avocado, but very little seasoning. No jalapenos he food was pretty bland. I have been to Mi Rancho many times in the past but the quality has really gone downhill lately. This was probably my last time to go thereit was so bad. Ambiance okay

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Mexican restraunts in Humble, Texas. They have really good enchiladas and the portions are big. The reason this gets 4stars instead of 5 is they charge extra if you pay with a credit or debit card. They want you to pay cash. This is deceiving and wrong and now I go somewhere else when I'm in Humble because of this. The food is good though!

Yelp
*My first time at this restaurant* Let me start off with the seating process, usually the place is pretty busy every time I pass by it . This time , it wasn't really busy & got seated right away . Our server did an amazing job hosting us . The food was delicious! I got the Mexican shrimp cocktail & the quesadilla platter w/ shrimp . Now , I'm really picky with restaurant rice (used to homemade) , but this place had the most flavorful rice ever . It wasn't hard , or bland . It had that homemade taste to it . The quesadilla platter was chefs kiss . I pretty much ate all 4 pieces & the shrimp cocktail was delicious as well . The environment of the restaurant was like you're typical Mexican restaurant , nothing wrong with it . Totally coming back !

Yelp
After running errands will day , we spotted nice warm and welcome signage. We immediately made the decision to go to the restaurant. Walking in the restaurant, you spot a hand sanitizer pump at the front by the door. The host stand is a little hidden but that's management's fault, not the restaurants'. Our waitress, whose name I forgot, was sweet. The other staff seemed impeccably sweet. The food averaged to $60 for two different set of drinks and fajita plates for two. I definitely would recommend! Yum!

David R.

Yelp
We stopped by for dinner. We got a table fairly quickly. Food was flavorful and the service was excellent. The ambiance was great. They kept playing Mexican music. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Lance C.

Yelp
Best Mexican food out there! Family place. Best margaritas. Lighting is too bright though. Best service due to management.
google avatar

Edward M.

Yelp
Not really an authentic Mexican restaurant but never the less is really good, the only thing I have eaten from there is their No name plate which I think is worth it
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this location a few times already. Love this place. Just came here for the drinks today. Fast service.

Yasmeen R.

Yelp
First time here, I called to place an order for pick up, was on hold for over 30 minutes before I just hung up! I Decided to go in to place my order in person instead, the place wasn't even busy for me to have been on hold that long!! i dont understand why I was put on hold for so long over. They must have just forgotten about my call, I called from a different phone and it marked the busy tone.... Anyways The girl that took my order in person was on her personal phone when I walked in and once she took my order she went back to being on her personal phone, even after I told her I wanted my drink while I waited for my To-go order to be ready. I had to come up to her about 5 minutes later to ask her where my drink was .... I just wanted some tacos and this experience was not it!
google avatar

D'andrea M.

Yelp
This place is #1 and my food is always fresh and hot!! On weekends it does it crowded but the wait time isn't long
google avatar

Kamilia L.

Yelp
Ordered a basic chimney and Diablo Chicken both without rice/beans. Great flavor and customer service. Practiced social distancing and the resturants was clean.

Judes G.

Yelp
i ordered 4 street tacos and only for this they charge $32!!!!! for 4 tacos!!? too expensive and they hardly put and cilantro and onions on them! who ever the owner is putting prices on these tacos for that much should be ashamed! i would never recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!
google avatar

Jasmine U.

Yelp
My family loves this place, when I visit home (Houston) I know we'll probably end up here at some point and because I need my tex mex fix I never complain. This is where cheap meets good. Prices are low food quality way up, never a bad meal. The spinach enchiladas I ordered were a little different than they were last time I had them but so good I didn't complain. Service is on point and the green sauce is golden. Mi Rancho me love you long time.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
Service wasn't the best. I'm not sure if the waitress had too many tables or what the deal was.... we never got a refill of chips and we were seated for a good bit before the waitress made it by to take our order. I also ordered the spinach and mushroom enchiladas with double charro beans instead of rice. My plate came out with double rice. I finally did receive double charro beans but it took a while. It also took forever to get our check after we finished eating. The food on the other hand makes up for the cruddy service. THE BEST enchiladas I've had. My boyfriend had cheese enchiladas and also said they were some of the best he's had. I'm willing to give it another try and see if the service is better, because the food is that good.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
I tried calling and placing an order for spinach quesadillas, in which the hostess responded that they "didn't make spinach quesadillas". We have had Mi Rancho for years now and we knew better. Since we were close we went ahead stopped by, going in and placing the order I asked for one full order of just plain beef quesadillas, one order of beef quesadillas with spinach, and a half order of chicken quesadillas with spinach. Placing the order I asked the hostess to repeat it to me in which she acted like it was a problem. But I wasn't gonna make a big deal out of it, I just wanted the quesadillas to bring home to the family for dinner. I payed for the quesadillas, and took a seat in front of the register. I sat and waited about 15 minutes, a couple came in and asked for a Togo menu and they were swiftly told that they don't have one. So they settled for a in house menu and looked over what they wanted to order to go. After their interaction with the hostess the couple left clearly unhappy with the woman saying "this ain't it". I received my quesadillas and left. Getting home I open the boxes to find that all three orders are beef with spinach. Which is not what I asked for. Maybe given that the hostess had better customer service skills and didn't act like everything was a problem this could've been over looked but to be treated poorly over the phone then in person then have the order wrong.... bullshit. Get a hostess with a better attitude. This ain't it chief.
google avatar

Cathy B.

Yelp
Food was great! I had pork tamales and the green salsa. I also had a mango Margarita that was perfect. You get large portions. My sister and her husband shared fajitas and had plenty. Service was excellent as well
google avatar

Angelique G.

Yelp
Service is great and the staff is friendly. My only complaint is that they are not socially distancing customers. People are seated at tables right next to each other. Staff are wearing masks but I would feel a little more safe if people weren't crowded right next to me.
google avatar

Princess U.

Yelp
No idea how the food is yet, I haven't ordered. 1 Star for no soap in the bathroom. Aren't employees supposed to wash with soap??
google avatar

Kristy Q.

Yelp
Place was clean and wait staff friendly wearing masks. The food was good prices was not bad either nice place to bring the family

Evelyn M.

Yelp
Mi rancho es muy bien el servicio es muy bien recomiendo que mi rancho es un burn lugar para comer yes un buen lugar para comer y comida es bueno

Tammy W.

Yelp
It's a waist of time to try to explain the concept of customer service and customer retention to this establishment. I walked out dissatisfied over $1. I looked at my bill and saw a miscellaneous $1 charge and inquired regarding the charge. Apparently, Mi Rancho has gotten so greedy or desperate that they charge if you decide you don't want refried beans. I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants throughout Texas and the US and the style of beans is typically a preference not an up charge. Even after talking to the manager on duty about the up charge, he decided that the $1 was worth losing a customer. I could have taken it out of the tip, but the service was the only highlight, so I didn't. I've noticed that there seems to be less and less people since I started going 14 years ago, now I see why. Please do your research regarding the value of customers vs $1. Thank god being a store manager for the most successful grocery chain in Texas taught me the value of a customer.
google avatar

Diana Z.

Yelp
I was yesterday waiting for a table and I noticed the services was bad the receptionist is racist because they just want to see the black or white people they treat me better than if you are Spanish as a waitress too, we did not ask fir a the bill when he show up whit the bill, I was like " I did not finished at all yet and he come with the bill" last time I spend my money in a racist place
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Their enchiladas never fail to impress me! Bomb ass margaritas and kind service every time

Minerva M.

Yelp
Food has lots of flavor! Drinks are so good!! The Chile rellenos are very tasty. As well as the fajita salad bowl.
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
I love Mia Rancho! The food is delicious and service is excellent, Every time! I am a big fan of their margaritas...sooo good! Prices are reasonable Very clean, ambiance is cute, typical mexican restaurant
google avatar

Patricia W.

Yelp
Good Mexican-American food, which I can find also at other restaurants. The alcoholic drinks are great as well.

Learned B.

Yelp
I have enjoyed this restaurant since it has opened. I am eating my last meal here as I type this. They are not adding 3.9% service charge to all credit card charges. If they need to raise there prices to cover increasing cost, so be it. I would have gladly paid it. This chickenshit approach is not one that I supper and will not support financially!
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! I meet friends and family here often. They waiters and waitresses are very welcoming. The drinks are good.

Yelp
I grew up in Humble, so every time I come back to visit the family, Tex-Mex is always on the top of the list for what to eat. Since I've moved away, a lot of places have popped up increasing the competition for Tex-Mex, but this place can hold its own when it comes to food. I do sea areas of oppurtunity when it comes to the service, which has been hit or miss on the times that I have come here. Food: 4 stars. The food is well seasoned and has good, authentic flavor. The rice and beans are done very well, and the salsa is nice and chunky (although, I wish it had just a tad less cilantro in it). The tortillas are extremely greasy, and are nothing but shortening/lard and flour, so I usually only eat one of them. The enchiladas are probably 3.5 stars, but I usually get the fajitas. The chicken, beef, and shrimp are all good. One thing I am not a fan of, is that they put the guacamole inside of a fried tortilla bowl, and put that on top of the sizzling platter. I don't know about you but I like my guacamole cold to room temperature, not warm. Service: 2 stars: I've been to this location and to the one in Tomball, and this one consitently falls short in service compared to its sister location. Last time I was here, our waiter never came around. I think it was actually 30 minutes after he took our drinks orders before he came back to take our food orders. Luckily, the bus lady was on top of her game, so our chips and salsa never got empty, but half an hour (before taking a food order) is inexcusable Price: 3.5 stars. Typical suburb prices. There are cheap and expensive options on the menu depending on what you get, but all in all, not bad. Couple tweaks in the service department, and this place will be a 4 star establishment.

Bridgette H.

Yelp
The food is always great because it's well seasoned. Large portions & great waiters. Always enjoyable. Love the new renovations.

Yelp
5 stars for sure!! We went in to sit at the bar, have a drink, and order a to-go order for multiple people. We ordered a pretty hefty meal. Fajitas for 4 with all the fixins, guacamole, queso, michaladas, extra refried beans, rice and tortillas and sopapillas. Unfortunately, I got home and found out we were missing a few items ordered. I called immediately, and the person working at the bar, on this date, asked if we wanted a refund, or if he could personally come and drop off our missing items. This was a busy Sunday afternoon, I couldn't believe that he even offered to personally deliver what was missing! I gladly accepted this offer, and within minutes he had arrived with what was missing AND more! This is great customer service at its best! I highly recommend this restaurant. Not only for their AMAZING food, but for their Courtesy to their customers. They really do care, and clearly go above and beyond. Food was amazing!
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Terrible customer service and everything was burnt. They burnt my kid chicks nuggets a and fries as well as the nachos ‍ terrible experience. The two stars are being nice because of COVID-19

Mike D.

Yelp
Great food, neat interior, and great service! We have eaten there literally hundreds of times since 2007 and have never had a bad visit. My wife loves their house Margaritas and all others are compared to Mi Rita. I'm fond of the House Margarita with a shot of Patron on top. Super! And the price is right. The Sampler Platter is enough food for me and the wife to share and the fajitas are very consistent. Can't say enough good things about Mi Rancho. And on your birthday, the waiters will pause and sing Sapo Verde eres tu!!
