FOOD:
- Pan Seared Scallops were delicious, even better was the super lemony risotto that came with it, I cleaned that plate!
- Mussles Fra Diavolo were solid, def a spicy broth and good meaty mussels. Great toasted buttery bread with it.
- Butternut Squash Agnolotti - the ravioli were overcooked (super soft), but still tasty. Heads up this was a pretty sweet dish in case you want more savory flavors for your tapas.
- Grilled Bread was ok, nothing super exciting though, thought it would be more grilled than it was. There was cheese but would have been nice if it was melted on.
DRINKS:
Pitcher of red sangria (sigh). I dunno if it's cuz I'm from New York where there's tons of true Spanish/tapas restaurants, but this sangria left a lot to be desired. First it had zero fruit in the pitcher. It was also served with a ton of ice in the pitcher and with each of our glasses filled with ice. I felt like I was drinking something watered down most of the time, even when the manager topped our pitcher off with more sangria after I was honest about the strength of it. Again maybe I have high standards for sangria and this might be standard for Texas but I would have been happier with a glass of red.
AMBIENCE:
Great, high energy. Good for an old (mid 40s) married couple like us out on a "date night", but would not recommend for an intimate convo.
SERVICE:
Excellent. While the sangria was meh and the food was good but not noteworthy, the manager (I think that's who he was) was quite attentive and I liked that, and our water glasses were never empty.
Would I go back? The million dollar question...answer is maybe. If I did, I'd go with a different dining partner (I love my husband but he's not that food adventurous) and try things like the calamari, tuna crudo, crispy manchego. But if I'm craving tapas maybe next time I'll try El Raval (haven't been but looks promising), as for Italian my faves are Il Brutto in East Austin or Cedro in Cedar Park!
