The first I had a Chimney cake (Kürtöskalács) was during my trip to Prague in 2016. It was one of the most decadent food experiences I've ever had, so I was ecstatic to stumble upon Mia Sorella Chimney Cakes located in the Liberty Station market. There were a few times when we came close to closing time, and my husband and I just missed getting our chimney cake. However, we finally had the chance to try it, and we ordered the Prague chimney cake. It was delicious. The chimney cake was moist and well-made. The service is friendly, and I could tell our Chimney cake was made with love and care. I hope they offer ice cream with the chimney cake in the future, as it would be the perfect indulgence.

I was pleasantly surprised to find "Chimney Cake" in San Diego. Baumstriezel was my favorite dessert at the German Christmas market when I lived in Munich. This version was very yummy, but smaller than what I am used to. I ordered the original with cinnamon sugar.

MUST TRY!! The best european dessert that I've ever had. Crunchy from outside and milky from inside. Not too sweet. Friendly cashier. Get the prague one

A truly delicious and unforgettable experience! I tried the Hungarian pastries out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. They offer an innovative twist on the traditional recipe, and every bite is bursting with flavor — perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The variety of flavors is both creative and delicious; you can really taste the passion and care in every detail. The service was excellent — warm, attentive, and fast. I’ll definitely be coming back for more and highly recommend it!

7/4/2023: @ Grand Opening in the Liberty Station market food court. I tried the original chimney cake (Hungarian - Kürtöskalács) with caramelized sugar. They also make Parmesan rolls with veggie fillings that function like a lunch vice a dessert. There are also fancier chimney cakes with sweet fillings, toppings and dips. It’s labeled a bakery but it’s chimney cakes only. This is a good alternative to the usual food court sweets. I’ll rate my cake an 8/10 on the IKS (International Kürtöskalács Scale).

Hungarian-Slovak style chimney cakes with sweet or savory fillings. Located in the middle of the big market hall, the location on Maps is correct.

I placed a 4-people catering order for a picnic we were having by La Jolla. Though the food quality and charcuterie presentation were good, more thought could have been put into the packaging. I was surprised that for a $162 order, everything came in deep flimsy brown boxes that became a heat sink. By hour 2 when the sun came out, the chimney cakes / naked floral cake fell apart and all the cream got droopy. We also had to toss out the entire charcuterie board due to food safety concerns. Not to mention, the bakery said they didn’t have any bags for us to transport the food in. It is common practice for charcuterie businesses to provide food in insulated packaging and I hope more thought is put into this for future customers.

I've never had a chimney cake so I was curious. I'm glad that my curiosity lead me here because the desserts were delicious.
