My review is for banquet dining in the clubhouse.
I've been to two dinners in the Clubhouse at the Miami Beach Golf Course. The first was two years ago for my high school reunion. The second was recently when my graduating class celebrated my high school's birthday. Both events were similar. They started with a reception. A table was set up with an assortment of vegetables, cheeses, crackers, fruits, hummus, chips and salsa. Servers brought around cosmopolitans during the reception. There was a full bar open throughout the evening. We were each given two drink tickets. After that we could purchase drinks.
Tables for the dinners were on the outside patio. A buffet dinner was set up in an adjoining room. There was a separate table with desserts, tea, and coffee.
I'll review my most recent visit, although both dinners were almost identical.
The tables were set with linen napkins and tablecloths. There were beautiful centerpieces although I doubt they were provided by the venue. Eating outside was lovely and we were lucky the weather was nice, not too hot or too cold. I don't think it would have been nearly as enjoyable if it had been a hot humid Florida evening.
The reception was just okay. The table cloth skirt was cockeyed and coming down. Nobody fixed it throughout the reception. The food was set up nicely but the presentation was fairly plain. The cheeses were good but rather typical of an average cheese tray.
The buffet consisted of rolls, salmon ceviche, chicken piccata, potato, fish, penne pasta, steak Diane, broccoli and cauliflower, tomato and cheese salad, and Caesar salad. There were plenty of choices and everything was pretty good. The steak Diane was very tender and had a nice flavor. The other dishes were good, but not great. The pasta needed more sauce.
For dessert I had cheesecake with raspberry sauce. It was delicious. I think the cheesecake was the best thing on the buffet.
The service was not good. The woman passing around the cosmopolitans during the reception was very unfriendly. I had to practically chase her down to get a drink. During the dinner nobody checked on us, or even brought a glass of water. I finally went to the bar to get a glass of water to go with my meal. I think it would have been a better experience if the service had been friendly and helpful.
The clubhouse is nice, although not fancy. When you dine on the patio you get a nice view of the golf course. Parking was free, and I was glad we didn't have to use a valet.
