Selina, the Hotel for Digital Nomads, Is Coming to the U.S.

"In September, Selina will open its first location in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. You’ll see a lot more of them after that: Though the company can't officially confirm more U.S. locations outside of Miami, they have big plans in the works—and expect to grow to at least 40 locations globally by the end of 2019."

When we first entered the hotel room, the bathrooms and toilets hadn’t been cleaned. We had to go to the front desk and ask them to clean it. The pool and surrounding area were extremely dirty, so we ended up leaving without being able to use it. The location is close to downtown, but a bit far from the beaches. The best part was the bar at the back.and the reception staff was friendly.

The photos online make this property look clean and charming, but the reality was extremely disappointing. The very first red flag happened at check‑in. My boyfriend was waiting behind a couple, and after they finished, he walked up to the desk and politely said hello, trying to check in. The woman at the desk looked up, said hi, and immediately went back to what she was doing instead of helping him. Then the same couple came back inside, cut in front of him, and started talking to her again — and she let them, completely ignoring him until he had to step back up and say again that he was there to check in. That alone should’ve been our sign to leave, but we decided to stay. As soon as we walked into the yellow building where the rooms are, we noticed severe water damage throughout the entrance floor. The wood was badly damaged — sunken in and uneven to the point where it shifted under your feet when you stepped on it, which didn’t feel safe at all. When we got to our room, it was more of the same. The entire space felt dirty the second we walked in. The walls were covered in scuffs, scratches, and old stains that looked like they hadn’t been painted or properly cleaned in years. The wood floors were beat up, scratched, and stained with what looked like water spots and grime. The furniture, including the chair, had visible dark stains, and the bed frame looked worn and dirty. Even the corners of the room and edges of the floor had built-up dirt and dust, like they hadn’t been touched in forever. The ceiling showed water damage as well, with cracks and peeling paint, and around the ceiling fan there were multiple holes that made it look like the fan had fallen at some point and been put back up without properly repairing the damage — which didn’t feel safe either. The bathroom was just as bad. The tiles were cracked with sloppy patchwork, and there was visible mold and grime around the tub and sink areas. There was also hair and dirt both inside the shower and around its edges, which was disgusting to see right after checking in. The “soap” they left out for washing hands wasn’t even hand soap — it was hair shampoo. The shower couldn’t be adjusted and was angled toward the wall, so the water hit my neck instead of my body, and the only way to make it halfway usable was to lower the water pressure so it would spray lower. On top of all that, there was no fridge or microwave in the room, which is a basic amenity almost every hotel offers, especially for the price we paid. Between the misleading photos online, the water damage and mold throughout the property, the hair and dirt left in the bathroom, the lack of basic amenities, the unsafe ceiling fan and unstable entrance floor, and the unprofessional service at check‑in, this stay was far below any reasonable expectation. Until this place goes through serious repairs, deep cleaning, and staff training, I would not recommend staying here.

I booked this dump not knowing any thing about it, When i got there the cab driver ask if I wanted to stay. Not knowing what I was in for I stayed I;m 83 years old And had to go up 3 floors. When I was at the room I was told the bathroom was for 3 rooms. The room and bath were old and not clean at all I didn't sleep in the bed, just sat on it all night, You could see light all around the door and people talking till 1: 30 in the morning No place to eat around there. Having a long day on 2 planes to get there didn't help. Great place to get bed bugs is all I can say for this dump. I had to pay $ 215.00 even the price you see is not real

The is not a hotel. This is a hostel. I paid close to $700 for 4 days and My third floor did not have a bathroom. The bathroom was on the second floor and it's shared with 8 other rooms. My room should have a washroom where I can keep my hands clean and do other cleansing that needs to be done outside of the shower. There are no elevators and my room was on the third floor. The ceiling was low and I bumped my head every day I stayed there. I am only 5'5. I am not very tall. Talk about a lawsuit. Also, they don't provide you with ice, water, coffee, or a fridge. If I am staying at a hostel the least they could do is price the room to a low standard. I thought this was a hotel. I would say this is a very low-quality place. I asked them to bring something to my room which they said I could pick it up in the morning. I showed up in the morning and they didn't have it available. $700 and you can't bring me the extension cord needed for the TV in the room? I saw that it was close to downtown and I was hoping there would be shops and cafes close by which there were not. Do not book here if you want a comfortable stay. They have trash everywhere, outdated/ broken seating, tables and heavy remodeling equipment laying around where people can get hurt. They should dispose or move the broken equipment to an enclosed space where people cant run into it. The pool is not usable as it is very cold even during the hot day. So sad, was hoping for a comfortable stay for four days.

This place is an absolute joke for the price you pay, Just got off a 13 hour flight, our rooms right next to a busy road where the alarms ring every 20 minutes for the bridge to lift up and let boats go through. bugs in the bed, loud noise from other people staying in there, front door didn’t shut properly. Spoke to the staff about it, they don’t seem to care. Left at 2am and sorted another accommodation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

This hotel was filthy—there was dried blood on the bedsheets, insect faeces on the floor, the smoke alarm was covered with a plastic bag, the shower curtain had random insects and bits on it, the sprinkler and shower were rusty, paint was peeling from the walls and furniture—truly one of the worst hotel rooms I've seen. Seeking to give them a second chance, they agreed to give us an "upgraded" room, which we accepted, only to find after a more in-depth review that this second room had a non-functioning toilet (didn't flush), a used bar of soap in the shower that looked like it'd been there for weeks, and a filthy sink (complete with a stray pubic hair). In general, the hotel was in a rough-feeling neighbourhood, had a loud external environment, and a poorly organised lobby. This hotel was NOT as described and did not look like the pictures. Because of the rooms being either filthy or non-functioning, we decided to check out early and go to a different hotel. Instead of doing the decent thing and agreeing to our refund request, they have refused entirely to process a refund or any form of compensation. Truly a hotel to be avoided! Save your money and the stress!

Google
STAY AWAY well I fell into the clickbait that is this "4 Star hotel" not sure how they got that rating. first glance super cute. then u enter the building and realize i walked into something bad. the room was ant infested even on the 3rd floor. all over the bathroom and the bed, i had some spray was like okay let me get through the night cause I've been driving for too long.the next morning i tell the receptionist who was asleep at the desk and just said oh new blankets? i told her I'll be gone all day spray place traps, do whatever thats fine. and i come back to it being just as infested somehow even worse than when i left! the bed made with the same sheets and amazingly the bed made improperly who puts the sheet over the comforter. and the noise you can hear people running their water, the people above below, it doesn't matter you won't sleep well. even after over 12 hours of driving i could barley stay asleep do yourself and your family or anyone the favor and STAY AWAY

Yelp
This hotel is so awful, I was compelled to write this review before I even checked out! Let's start with the fact that the entrance of the hotel is very difficult to find. I pulled up to a closed gate and was instructed to call a number from a flyer. I called once and no one picked up. I called again and someone answered, but they were confused about the closed gate. After a bit, they realized the main gate was closed and opened it for me. As I walked in, I immediately saw a DEAD RAT on the ground. The worst part is there were several hotel staff walking past the VERY visible rat. Disgusting! This hotel is absolutely not ADA accessible. There are no accommodations if you can't use stairs. The stairs feel like they're about to fall apart in any second. The rooms are incredibly outdated and don't have AC. They also were not clean - ours had OLD HAIR in the shower! The door to the bathroom door would not close at all. The music is also blasting outside and you can hear it clearly from your room. The fact that they charge a resort fee without having all of the amenities of a normal resort is criminal. We didn't even get hand soap to use?? PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!

Yelp
If you're looking for a spot with a ton of Miami character this is it! I stayed in one of the private king rooms. Victor at the front desk was extremely welcoming and helpful and upgraded me for free! The room was very simple, boutique-like, very cute. There are not many amenities in the room. I did not see a hairdryer, but had brought my own, and there is no television, but it was very colorful and very clean. The bed was comfy! The best part of the hotel is definitely the walking grounds. They have a beautiful space with a pool, a coworking space, a large courtyard and a bar and restaurant. They offer yoga classes every day. I was in town for business and after my meetings my plan was to go explore Miami, but I ended up staying at the hotel for dinner and not leaving! The restaurant is amazing, there are so many great spots to take pictures outside, and the food was very high-end. I had some of the best cocktails in my life and would definitely recommend getting the ceviche and the chicken empanadas! They did play music outside but they ended it at a reasonable hour and it wasn't very loud from my room even through I was overlooking the courtyard. I would absolutely stay here again, and next time I will bring friends!

Yelp
These are old apartments turned into hotel rooms. The smell of the entire apartment was close to a dead body. You must keep the air on very low at all times to keep the smell to a tolerable odor. The decor pillows on the sofa and the beds had disgusting stains and smells. Toss them off the bed immediately and stray your beds down. The showers need to be taken down and a little money needs to be invested. So much mold in the cracks of the shower. No wash clothes available for guest. No trash can in the kitchen. No iron or ironing board in the suites. No elevators for handicapped individuals. They put us on the second floor. If you need noise to sleep know that you can hear everything. Helicopters, people talking in office and outside, car accident all after the hours of midnight.

Yelp
This place disappointed me. I had a very small room without a television, air conditioning or a bathroom. I had to share the bathroom with the other two rooms in the building. The window would barely stay open for a small amount. Luckily it wasn't a hot night or it would have been a lot worse. I asked for extra towels and they did not have any. It was only for one night and I am happy for that. I only paid about $80. The area was okay, but I will pay a little bit more to stay at a way better hotel. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Spend more money and stay at a nicer place.

Yelp
When the room was booked, it did not stated that the bathroom would be shared. I have an injury to my knees and asked for a first floor but was given a third floor with low a ceiling, that being said I could not walk freely in the room. I hit my head more than 10 times. Plus I was charged a resort fee, it is far from being a resort! I booked the room through Booking.Com and they dated I should have been charged.
