Where to Buy the Best Bread in Philly | Eater Philly

"Available at the Germantown Kitchen Garden Farm Stand in Germantown and High Point Cafe in Mount Airy, and with delivery to those neighborhoods plus East Falls, Michael’s Bread is the kind of blistered sourdough that you’d encounter at a classic Parisian boulangerie. Baked in a wood-fired oven, the bread is great for sandwiches and toast. Keep an eye on social media for where Michael’s will be available that week. Never want to go without? Folks in Northwest Philly can sign up for a weekly subscription here." - Dayna Evans

I purchased their hand made cinnamon swirl bread. I was very disappointed with this particular bread. It lacked cinnamon inside. Not worth the $6.50 that they charge. See enclosed picture to see the lack of cinnamon in the 🍞.

Google
5+++stars! The most sensational raisin bread I've ever had. And the new sourdough is amazing too!

Just found this little Gem, the Bread is so beautifully made, as a chef This place is so super special and I can say is doing it right and for a super fair price The customer service is second to None Tammy was so nice and as warmly welcoming as the smell of these beautiful fresh baked breads

Everyone needs to stop here! About 3 years ago I was taking this route on the way to Hershey's and I noticed the little shop in the curve. I wonder to myself exactly what they sold since they apparently had a retail sales area. Fast forward and I was driving again to Hershey today and there It was again. I turned around and immediately drove back. I'm so glad I did. The peanut butter cream cookie is a go out and get it now. It is extremely sweet and rich with an excellent peanut butter flavor. This is going to sound really strange but the pecan frosties have very slight flavor. It reminded me of a chewy pecan. Sandie. It is so delicate and light that it's about 10 seconds before you really start to taste anything. When you do. It's just a very light background pecan flavor, but the chewy wonderfulness of the cookie makes you just love it. I give it a would recommend and I definitely would purchase them again. And now for the sticky buns. I'm not a fan of raisins so I got the one without the raisins. It was fantastic! I totally wouldn't recommend you purchasing one. Everything I tried here was fantastic and I will be stopping by again.

Occasionally we stop here to pick up sticky buns on the way to the beach. These are the best I've ever eaten, plus the fresh baked smell wafting thru car for the remainder of the drive is heavenly.

ALWAYS ALWAYS a stop on our way to & from Ocean City! Their Cinnamon Raisin Bread, Sticky Buns & White Potato Rolls are among our favorite! O, & can't forget Gobs/Whoopie Pies😋 If you wanna make a good burger a delicious burger 🍔- get some of this Vidalia Onion Relish😁 Love the ladies that work there - they are ALWAYS pleasant😃

Hi Traveler

Google
Maps had me out in nowhere land on a trip to Pittsburgh! This Gem of a place was like finding a gold nugget while swimming in a river. The products, all as fresh as you'll ever get , the smell is heavenly, the value unmatched . Service was friendly and helpful . I plan to visit a nearby town with my family just so I can stop by again.

Yelp
We traveled here specifically due to my sister in law's insistence. She said their bread is really good and she really wanted to try it. She made sure to get the bread she wanted the most which is the raisin and cinnamon bread. I personally like cinnamon but not the raisin :) But i bought other types of bread, which we definitely enjoyed! Most of of the lovely ladies working there were so nice and accommodating to us! So if ever you are in Lancaster,Pa please visit them!

Yelp
Every time I'm in Strasburg, I stop at Michael's. They have by far the best homemade breads available. Most all natural homemade bread goes bad within a few days, but with Michael's, it's always good for at least a week after buying!! The staff is also very friendly and helping. Definitely my go to spot when I'm in Lancaster.

Yelp
Stopped here in the morning to get a sticky bun! Waited a few minutes for the plain ones. While waiting we talked with the staff and the lady up front was very friendly. It was worth the wait. So good. Probably could have ate the whole thing in one sitting but I held myself back. So good especially when they are warm! Def recommend you stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
The best Sticky buns ever. We love them sliced in half, butter them up and put them in a Fry pan till they brown up. Delicious.

Yelp
We saw this a few times passing by but it wasn't open. When it finally was open as we came by, we had to stop. The selection is amazing and staff is super friendly. We purchased some sauces, gobs or whoopie pies as they are known in Lancaster, and some day old sticky buns and cinnamon bread. Everything was fantastic, and day old options are just as delicious as fresh!

Yelp
My husband and I took a day trip from Baltimore MD and stumbled upon Michaels. We purchased the fresh from oven raisin bread. Went to the car to taste and let's just say half the loaf was gone before we pulled out the parking space. It's a MUST if you are ever in the area. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Honestly these are my favorite sticky buns in the world. Unfortunately I just can't rationalize purchasing them anymore. Inflation or not I simply do not see how three sticky buns the size of rolls cost $6 at Bird in Hand Market. I have purchased from Michael's as long as I can remember, and I'm sad to stop. So three stars not because of product quality but because of my disappointment in what I feel is unfair pricing.

Yelp
A local bakery that offers a variety of housemade breads and baked goods. The hubs and I stopped by there to pick up some raisin bread and their sticky buns. I was super excited for the sticky buns as it was advertised in them having the best ones on their signage outside! Both were super fluffy and fresh! Make sure you get there early as they close at 3! Plenty of parking in their private lot. +sticky buns

Yelp
Came to Lancaster for a wedding and drove by this twice. Finally decided to stop by and the moment we walked in, the sweet aromas of cinnamon mesmerised us. Bought two loaves of the cinnamon raisin bread and the sticky pecan bread. Now that I'm back home eating what's left, I wish I had bought extra. Will be visiting when we visit PA again.

Yelp
My mom brings the pecan sticky buns to Christmas morning breakfast every year. The place smells amazing. This a no frills bakery but they have some of the most wonderful baked goods. Go in and pick up a fresh baked load of raise bread or garlic rye. Reasonably price, friendly people, you can not get fresher bread, rolls and treats. They we're literally brushing butter on them as they came out if the oven!!!

Yelp
Had a craving for sticky buns and found this place on Yelp. It was well rated and decided to give it a try this Saturday at about noon. I purchased the large round sticky buns but noticed the package was wet. The woman explained she took them out of the freezer earlier in the day?? For the money they charge I would not expect to get old leftover frozen product. Nonetheless I took them home and tried them. The "sticky" part of the bun was now crystallized so it seemed like they had granulated sugar on them and not the typical syrup / sticky glaze you would expect. They have no pride in serving a fresh product. They may make a good product when they're fresh but how do you know what your going to get? Fresh or frozen. I traveled 45 minutes and paid a lot of money. It's not worth the trip or the cost for day old bread.

Yelp
I have been visiting this bakery for 25 years whenever I can get there. Their bread is so clean and so flavorful. Best I have bought!

Yelp
Visiting the area and wanted to take a few goodies back. Searched yelp and this bakery was the closest. They had a very small area set up with items but we found a few things to bring back. Whoopie pies, shoofly pie and cookies which were all very good. Dissapointed in the selection but happy with the quality.

Yelp
Best cinnamon raisin bread I've ever had. Freshly baked and no preservatives! I really want to eat the whole loaf myself!!!

Yelp
While I moved away from Lancaster County 24 years ago, one of my fondest memories was shopping at Market and discovering Michael's Cinnamon Buns, which are the absolute BEST I've ever tasted! The buttery and cinnamon flavored stickiness and the quality of the bread has set them apart from any others I have ever tried along the way! I must see if they will ship!

Yelp
Their fresh cinnamon rolls were instantly added to my list of the best food I've ever eaten (and yes, I do keep a list). It's been a year since I went there and I'm still thinking about it.

Yelp
Always get Michaels Cinnamon Raisin Bread when we go to Lancaster, PA. Our trip would not be complete without this wonderful, tasty bread. THE STicky Bread is also very good with the pecans on top. I was so happy to see that I can order on line . We go to The Bird in Hand market and purchase this home made cinnamon with raisins that is to die for, and now I can order this on line. We are from Long Island.

Yelp
Purchase a loaf of Michael's Cinnamon Raisin bread and Pecan Sticky Buns fresh out of the oven. Some difficulty locating Michael's Homestyle Bread store. Google Maps location not accurate: Yahoo Maps location is right on the money.

Yelp
We stopped by the bakery today and were thrilled to find that it is not closing and that the new owners are committed to making the same great bread and sticky buns. We we greeted with a warm smile and left with warm bread. We were a little nervous to try the bread in case the recipe had changed at all. It was wonderful as usual and we couldn't have been happier with the service we received.
