On the Grid : Michelberger Restaurant

"The Michelberger Hotel is not just a regular hotel. It has a very personal style, the rooms are lovely decorated with wooden furniture. But it has more to offer than fancy rooms, the café is a nice place to rest and have a latte. Right next door you can find the restaurant, where you can get delicious breakfast, a quick lunch menu and tasty dinner. They focus on organic and regional food from Brandenburg. Highly recommended stop right before you head to Oberbaumbrücke and East Side Gallery." - Nadine Roßa

Tony ate at the restaurant in this hotel with Ellen Allien, famous Berlin DJ. They had sausage made from chicken, pig’s feet, and sage with smoked potatoes and apple; braised beef shoulder served with root vegetables, potatoes, horseradish, and kale.

Very cozy cafe with inside and outside seating. The staff were attentive and extremely kind. We got the cinnamon role, muse and soup of the day. They were all delicious and I recommend all three. Only wish was if they give more bread for the soup as it is 8 euros.

One of my favourite places, it is a joy to keep coming. The service is spectacular, the drink selection is super interesting and the food is 80% of the time amazing. There are some wonderful dishes I keep craving for days like the corn “ribs”, game arancini or hispi cabbage. Sometimes I’ve ordered things that taste like dog food. But it is worth the try! I respect the creativity and dare. Also the dishes keep changing. For me also de interior design of the cafe/bar is a masterpiece; I keep finding new details on every visit that make me understand the lore of the project. It is just a wonderful place with a soul and a beatimg heart I will keep coming to. ♥️

My partner and I had dinner here before a movie, and it was a really lovely experience. The food was delicious — full of strong flavors and interesting, creative combinations. Everything looked beautiful, both on the plate and in the space itself. The staff was attentive, kind, and professional, which made the evening even nicer. Many of the drinks are made with their own house liquor, and all of them are strong and beautifully presented — the aesthetic is spot on. The only downside is that the portions are a bit small. We left a little hungry, but it wasn’t a big deal since we were heading to a movie and had some theater snacks afterward. Would recommend and would happily come back.

Google
Great fine dining experience. I was positively surprised — the service was extremely attentive (took notes of my food allergies), the food was excellent (especially the pumpkin gnocchi! Melting in the mouth), the portions bigger than expected. All in all, even though it’s not cheap, it’s totally worth it. I will for sure be back. Thank you!

I dined here about 2-3 years ago, but am only leaving a review now. Everything was delicious, meticulous, and well explained. The wine was also incredible. But, most importantly, the main dish I had was, to date, best dish I've ever had. It was a smoked aubergine (eggplant) in a hazelnut ajoblanco. On the side was a dish with a sun-dried tomato pesto under a heaping pile of fresh herbs from their garden (many types of mint, basil, lovage, and so on). It was the most well-balanced meal I've had – there was smoke and savouriness from the aubergine (which also had an incredible texture), the creaminess (but also lightness) from the ajoblanco, the salt and deep umami from the sun-dried tomato, and an explosion of different herby flavours from the herbs – fresh mint of different kinds, citrus, a very nice level of bitterness). Absolutely incredible. I wish I had taken a photo but unfortunately did not. The menu is rotating, so you would not get this dish, but it at least showed the creativity and understanding of balance of the team.

Wow what a place... everything's mostly gluten free and they will happily make a gluten free version. The food is so fresh from their farm, the staff are friendly, wholesome atmosphere. The combinations of food are mouth watering, shows you healthy food cam be divine. We enjoyed dinner so much we booked for breakfast and their breakfast beats any hotels offerings ive had before. We felt energised for our travel day ahead. A place that makes you want to return.

Google
Fantastic experience, thanks so much to the staff who were beyond friendly and attentive. I brought my parents, who both have coeliac’s disease, and as soon as I arrived they said they saw my note about dietary requirements in the booking, they had gluten free bread (which was incredible) and would explain everything on the menu so we knew what was safe to eat. More on the menu was GF than wasn’t, which is so unusual so my parents were so happy that they could enjoy a great meal without feeling like they had to make loads of compromises or be a burden. We had the menu carte Blanche, as well as cocktails and wine. Every dish was delicious, fresh, and interesting. It’s not a cheap place - expect to spend 70-90€ pp - but the price is worth it and it’s a wonderful place if you want to have a special meal or celebrate something. I am recommending it to everyone!

Google
Amazing tasting menu (mostly vegetarian with some non veg proteins available) and drinks. Very tasty. The drinks with their in-house liquor is soooo good! The chocolate dessert was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Really good food overall! Interesting mix of flavours, no dish felt similar and every one of the dishes had its own kick of flavour and presentation. All time favourite by far was the chestnut gnocchi could not stop having that! We had a set menu created by the chef as we were a big group so had a chance to try everything and would totally recommend it to everyone. Just note - The food was not spicy for those who don't like a bit of chilli. Overall the place and the food and the staff were an absolute hit. One of the most easy going places to go to.

Yelp
Local, seasonal menu with very interesting options. We really wanted to like this place and specifically booked the hotel to try the restaurant. Food wasn't quite as good as we'd hoped based on the photos, but still glad we tried it.

Yelp
Made a reservation for dinner here because we were staying in the hotel. They give a lot of info about all of their "farm to table" offerings and the fixed menu, etc., but it was honestly the most boring meal we had during our entire trip. Would've been okay if it hadn't also been the priciest.

Yelp
Courtyard cafe... Inside seating too. Bins of books Auf Deutsch are part of the furniture and ambience. A place to come with a book and delve into coffee and words.

Yelp
Always a great lunch spot! While I have had lunch at the Michelberger several times during work related events (they have great meeting rooms and spaces to go offsite), I have recently been enjoying the restaurant on it's own. A few days ago, I went for lunch and had their cajun chicken. After living in the south (in the US), I was a bit skeptical on how well they would pull it off. I have to say, it was one of the most perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken breasts that I've ever had. I appreciate the constant quality of food at the restaurant. Obviously, they are part of a hotel... and in a hotspot for Berlin. It wouldn't be hard for their chef to throw his hands in the air and deliver a subpar menu from time to time. However, I've never seen this. As a local I'm impressed that they keep a high quality, seasonal, and consistent standard with their food.

Yelp
First of all. Berlin is a wonderful city with tons of great food and bars. This is based on a Thursday night during a layover with a day to spend in Berlin, staying at the Michelberger hotel. I have to start with the physical environment, as 100s of other restaurants and bars in Berlin, Michelberger Restaurant is also located in some sort of old Industrial building, concrete floor and hard walls, something that usually is the ultimate cocktail for a horrible atmosphere regarding the acoustics. My first 2 stars is definitely for the effort put into regulating the place with absorbing panels in the ceiling, yes, finally somewhere your ears can handle for hours even with a great playlist of late 80ies music in the background. Food was really great, fresh, tasteful and well explained by the friendly staff. I'll hit this one with a 5 stars, tipping point being that I've got a main, side, a starter, bread, one big bottle of sparkling water and two glasses of delicious white wine, for the humble price of 48 EUR.

Yelp
Very healthy and filling breakfast buffet. Many options and you'll wall out feeling great!

Yelp
We were seated in an empty restaurant and then waited nearly 20 minutes to be able to wave down a waiter for drinks, which was a bad start to things, but the food made up for it. The food was great, I ordered the roasted chicken and it was nicely cooked and the risotto was good as well. The mash potatoes were a hit around the whole table.

Yelp
Atmosphere and staff were absolutely incredible. Had a nice meal sharing plate style. Truffle salad was delicious and the pork cheek is a must! We were sucked into the lounge by too many late night drinks. The side with the bar/lounge was more enjoyable than the restaurant. Think that was due to the music. Aperol was a specialty. Give it a try... But keep it to a 2-3 minimum ;)

Yelp
The best food and atmosphere I have had in a while! True Gem here! The wild boar and pollack and pumpkin were delicious! We will definitely be back. The server was amazing and looks like the lead singer from System of a Down! Was really good with his recommendations! We love this restaurant!

Yelp
The funny thing about using Yelp in a place like Germany is that most of the reviews will be written by non-Germans... in other words, people that probably are used to living in places that are more customer-service oriented. So that being said, if you're reading this review while on vacation in Berlin, don't let a "horrible service" review turn you off from a restaurant. Most of the restaurants are going to have bad service compared to what you're used to. However, Michelberger Restaurant, possibly because it's in a hotel catering to international clientele, has amazing service. The waiters were helpful, the food was great and it was the perfect location for dinner that was part social, part business.

Yelp
Walking in you're bathed in soft light, instantly relaxing. When we arrived on a Friday around 7p there was plenty of seating at the bar while the restaurant was packed to the max. We put our names on the waitlist to dine and enjoyed a round of incredibly yummy cocktails. No mixers- all of the concoctions are fresh and crisp. The food was just as delicious. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Cute, quaint spot near the Berlin Wall. Loved sitting in the terrace surrounded by green plants and beautiful brick. The biggest disappointment was that their kitchen was closed (perhaps because it was in a Monday) so they only had four options for food to choose from. It was a bit overpriced for the food options so we ordered a sausage for 5€, which came out raw in the middle. They recooked us a new one but still looked questionable.

Yelp
I don't often write reviews unless I feel strongly about a place. And I feel strongly about this place- it is a wonderful gem in Berlin. I was in town for a work trip and found this place from a food blog. It exceeded by expectations- the food was out of this world delicious and so much thought and creativity went into each dish. We ordered a good number of dishes to share and all tasted so good. I've been to some really high end restaurants but this place doesn't break your wallet and has the food of some very fine dining. My favorite restaurant so far in Berlin. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a creative take on some familiar dishes. The cherry on top, so to speak, was the amazingly friendly staff and knowledgeable in wine too! I would come back and eat here the next time time visiting. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I really liked this place to get the nite started! Descent selection of drinks, well located, good prices and service. What else could you possibly ask for? The ambience is pretty much chilled, sort of like a starter but also a great place to end a short nite out. Card payments are accepted after 20 or 25€ i think, but still, they do take cards.

Yelp
Had dinner here with 3 friends and it was the best meal we've eaten in a long time. Great service, good wine list, and perfect food with lots of flavors and textures going on. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Great and rather cheap restaurant in Berlin located inside the Michelberger Hotel. Dinner is innovative cooking inspired by German cuisine, Middle Eastern cuisine and with a dash of vegetarian. Everything is very delicious and the quality is high. The interior is very well-designed with communal tables and lit candles.

Yelp
Great service, great food and a really chill atmosphere. They offer vegan and vegetarian options and make a killer salad as well. I've been here twice already an will be back for sure.

Yelp
This is really good food for berlin. Dinner is always well done, pleasant service, maybe a bit hipster. Their breakfast spread is great too but I only have had it staying at the hotel.

Yelp
Normal place, nothing that really caught my eye except their 40Mbit WiFi they had only 4-6 beers on the menu. I will come here again for the WiFi.

Yelp
This is a cool place and the waiters are very friendly. I love Michelbergers decoration, they really have their own style. It's a little bit expensive though compared to other Berlin bars.

Yelp
Probably the best food & overall restaurant experience I've had in years. Their concept is to share plates, so my companion and I got to taste quite a few different delicious creations each. The wild pigs head fritters were delicious just like that, coming with a smokey apple chutney however, they were absolutely amazing. Next we've had grilled leek, kale & fried capers which isn't just a deli vegan dish but actually quite fun to eat since the kale's crispness is making a sound on each bite. Don't miss the ricotta gnocchi - they were perfectly smooth and the melted orange butter they're sitting in is a dream of its own. On top there were some crisp leaves of sage rounding up the dish flavourwise and again giving me that nice crunching experience. More than just a snack as categorized, was the good portion of duck rillettes - really the best meat spread I've ever had, uhh! A nice contrast to what we we've had earlier the homemade kimchi - being red cabbage & ginger with a hint of garlic that day - was rather sourly which I enjoyed very much and makes it a good addition to any of the other meals we had. Knowing the sous-chef to be an incredibly good Patissier (from an earlier workplace of his) we just couldn't leave without a dessert. And this was the best. A colorful dream of beetroot sorbet & chocolate... soooo good!! I shouldn't forget about the attentive & quick staff, though! For each dish they serve you they quickly name its ingredients & preparation causing the mouth to start watering. In my opinion the place is well designed and cozy. The tiling on the walls however really do make it unexpectedly hard to converse when the place is filling up. Last but not least: The toilets are designed exceptionally ingenious which really made my laugh by my own and are definitely worth going to even if you wouldn't have to...
