Great atmosphere. I attended an 80th. Birthday celebration. The room was packed to capacity and the staff served everyone professionally with patience, a smile, and a follow up!! I will put on my schedule to go back and have another good time. The wine flights were all good from sweet to semi sweet, red and white. I loved the decoration and the layout. To my understanding they offer tasting along with music on other days.

Great location for a glass of wine. The menu is easy to read and organized by red and white wines.

Very friendly bartender and nice vibe! Great selection of wines and little snacks to go with. It's nice you can order a 3 or 5 wine "flight"/sampler with 5oz portions of each sample. It's a great way to try new things and see what you like; then you can buy a bottle to take home. Great date option :)

Google
MBTB always makes us feel welcome. We're Sipper Club members and it's worth joining - special pricing, special events and early notification of our favorite wines from wineries throughout Michigan. Snacks are available to purchase, but we sometimes take our own meat, cheese and fruit tray with us to enjoy there with our wine. It's a great place to meet up with friends too.

Google
I love this place. The staff are engaging and friendly, with an excellent knowledge of the wines they serve. Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere doesn't make you feel like you're some snooty wine bar. Plus they have trivia every Wednesday night. Awesome place to just hang out with friends and enjoy some local wines.

Had the best experience with Shanice! She was so nice and well informed on wines. We had an amazing experience and would recommend to anyone.

Enjoyed the flights. great way to try out several wines for a reasonable price. Pizza from next door is good. Live music made it a nice atmosphere for conversation.

Yelp
I had a small private event with some friends and family here. We all had a great time. The staff was amazing and accommodating. We loved the drinks our wine educator chose. I'm excited to try the food. I plan to hangout here from time to time. Everyone who attended want to host some kind over event here.

Yelp
It sadness me to write this review. I really enjoy the atmosphere and camaraderie at trivia night at MBTB. But I am outraged by new ownership that apparently changed over on Monday. We went for trivia and expected it to be the same as always, unfortunately it was not. They erased our points we've earned for a free glass, these are no longer honored. The menu has significantly changed: flights are $2-$3 more, no longer include flight bites, an upcharge for premium pours (which is understandable), no longer has a $5 bottle credit, and each glass is now $3-$5 more per pour. Why did you have to make every last item on the menu more expensive? I understand that the economy and inflation contribute to these things, but to increase the price and get less on everything throughout the menu plus not honor points earned for a free glass is a slap in the face. I'm just crushed at the blatant disrespect for the regulars that come every week for trivia or other events, no warning. Our trivia night just got a whole lot more expensive and we will be looking at other locations with more reasonably priced beverages and snacks. I hope they still allow us to bring in our own food, they did this week but who knows if that will also change. The staff seemed stressed telling us the new rules as well.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. I had never heard of Michigan by the Bottle until they did a sparkling Saturday event with 5 tasters of sparkling wine from a local vineyard. I came with a couple girlfriends around 1 pm and the place was busy but not packed by any means. We sat at the bar and were quickly seated. The wines were all VERY tasty. They had a promo in addition to the tasters only being $15 where you received $5 off a bottle of wine should you purchase it that day. While I didn't indulge further, my friend did and it was still so tasty later that night! The wines were paired with a little serving of cheeses and dark chocolate. Just an amazing spread all around. The employees there are nothing short of incredible. They're kind, attentive, and total hype masters. I've never felt more safe and like I belonged seated at a bar before, and with how things have been going lately, I almost cried with how amazing that felt. I can't even wait to be back.

Yelp
Live music and fun hosted events occasionally, great wine, great times! We used to live close to this place (which made us come here a lot). We heard about this place via Facebook and came in for one of their birthday celebration events a few years ago. We've been hooked on this place since. They have a wide selection of fruity, mellow, and bold wines. On top of that, there's some small treats like a cheese & chocolate plate, a soft pretzel, and some other small bites to eat while you're enjoying some wine. Other than the birthday celebration, we've enjoyed a few of their events including a wine glass painting party, as well as some live acoustic guitar singers. It's a very homey atmosphere so it creates a great wine tasting experience. Friendly staff also work here, which enhances the wine tasting experience even more! Like with any place on Woodward, parking in the back is always the suggestion. Luckily this location backs up to a larger office building lot, so there's plenty of parking to come in through the back entrance. We love our MBTB!

Yelp
Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room (Royal Oak) is a cool place to explore Michigan-made wine, learn about various types of wines, and explore all aspects of wine making and tasting without actually visiting a winery. My friend and I enjoyed a class recently and have each vowed to attend more classes and visit the other area locations. I'm also interested in checking out the wine club, live music events, and learning more about their winery partners. Trips to a few wineries is at the top of my to-do list. Other classes are offered making it a great place for exploring new hobbies and experiences. I am also interested in their script and charcuterie classes, and pub quiz nights. You can enjoy your wine with various noshes, such as warm pretzels, cheese plates, and sweet treats all locally made. The wine popsicles are dreamy. I definitely need to start making those at home! Classes are inexpensive, informative and fun. There's plenty of parking in the back lot.

Yelp
Came here when our other wine plans fell through. They were willing to accommodate 7 of us on a Friday night at 6:15. They were very helpful and friendly. The environment is not as cozy as a winery up north. You don't feel like you really want to sit and stay for a while. But the nice selection of wine will make me return!

Yelp
This concept was so exciting, as I've tried all the amazing wineries along the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail, so my expectations were high. But, it seems Michigan by the Bottle Tasting room has selected the wines of the mitten that are abysmal to meh. Randomly wandered in about an hour after they opened, we were the only customers. Found it strange that I'd only heard of 1-2 of the wineries featured on the menu, and even stranger yet the prices for the tasting!! Go to any west Michigan winery, and you can get 5 pours for $10 roughly...here it was 3 for $15 I believe. Oof. Now, maybe if they chose the best of the best, it would be worth it. But even with the $5 credit off a bottle that comes with a tasting, we were having a hard time figuring out what to spend the credit on...that's a problem. One of the wines literally tasted like tires lol. The server was sympathetic and gave us a taste of something else in lieu of that vile white cherry wine. Before coming here, I considered having my birthday gathering here, and I'm so glad I didn't! Not sure if I'd even come back here, maybe the other locations are better? The concept is great, but they need to chose better wine/wineries to partner with! MBTB, I'm rooting for you, but you have a lot of work to do to improve!

Yelp
Disappointing. I was looking for insight and discovery of curated Michigan wine gems. Unfortunately the staff, and the wine offering missed the mark. At first glance the tasting selection seems broad, but after closer review it's a limited group of wineries, with all their varietal attempts (some good, some not so good). The other surprise, the staff didn't seem to know much about the wines they did carry. I honestly can't recall learning anything insightful about the wines (e.g. vineyards, wine making approach, wine maker, history). Nothing. Just there to pour wine I guess. Maybe an off night. I liked the concept of focusing on Michigan wines and making them accessible with these store locations - but hoping they make it easy for anyone to try the best Michigan has to offer.

Yelp
Great service! Favorite place to enjoy some relax time. Wine selection is awesome. Sipper club member.

Yelp
Wine tasting at its best. Loved the atmosphere, wide variety of wines to choose from, game/trivia night, great place for date or just going out with friends. Make sure you pick up a bottle of your favorite wine!

Yelp
The pros: the wine was delicious. The selection was pretty sizable. The chip dips were finger-licking-good. The decor and atmosphere were fun(ish). Staff is friendly. Prices are fair. Wine flights are fun and different. I liked the festive turkey sheet they put the wine on. The cons: the service is incredibly slow and leaves A LOT to be desired. I had to continually move empty glasses to another table and had to go to the bar at least 5 times for water refills. The chocolate that comes with the flight was yuck. Also, while I love the wine flight, WHY wouldn't they figure out something smaller to serve it in?! Our table was overwhelmingly filled with huge wine glasses. Verdict: Meh. The company was amazing, so I had a great time, but I think I'd probably prefer a different location for happy hour next time.

Yelp
This place was great. I came here today for their board games day, as part of a Meetup group, and I had never been before. I got the smaller wine flight - three 2 oz pours ($6). For $12, you could get five pours, as well as a small cheese and chocolate plate. My friend got that option and gave me her chocolate, and it was quite good - I'm not a fan of super dark chocolate, and this was mild. The place itself was really nice, too, and spacious - I could see myself returning in the future. They do a book club as well as other events too which is great.

Yelp
This place was an awesome experience. I was referred to this place by @sippininmichigan from Instagram. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by a nice set of ladies. They provided me info on the flights. All the wines that I tried we're very good. My favorites we're the Pinots. Bell Lago Winery we're my favorites. The wine was very good and nearly tasted perfect. Overall excellent experience here. Next time I'm in town coming back.

Yelp
Get the Groupon!! Wine tasting for two that included a 3 dip and chip platter, snack mix, 3 glasses (honestly slightly less than a regular glass unlike messily pours at other places, and 1 big glass of your favorite. Great company, knowledge And ambiance. Will be back again!

Yelp
It's not too often that you can experience the wineries of Michigan during the week and so close to home! Michigan By The Bottle is just that, it's a tasting room for some of Michigan's best wineries, without the long drive! You can taste a wide variety of whites, reds, and sparkling wines. You can also add cheese, chocolate, or nuts to your tasting. Flights are under $20 bucks and come with friendly service and a smile. In fact, the owners Courtney & her husband Shannon, are regularly greeting and serving customers at their Royal Oak and Shelby Township locations. There are also special events that include pairings with some of Michigan's finest establishments, such as Love & Buttercream, Zingerman's, and The Rattlesnake Club, just to name a few. Stop by for a tasting or to pick up one of your favorite wines. It won't be your last visit!

Yelp
Had an awesome time here ! Staff members are fun ! The inside was beautiful . When I went in they were playing blues music over the speaker which I loved. The wine selection is amazing !! I came for my birthday and I'll never forget it ! We sampled 10 wines , it came with a mix of cashews , chocolate and variety of cheese and crackers . Loved everything.

Yelp
Great spot to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon! Chips and dips were a perfect addition to the flight.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for the first time because we had a groupon, and it was amazing! We had a little girls night, but they have events as well that you can go to and meet new people! Parking was super convenient, with options to park in front of the establishment, the side street, or the parking lot in the back for free. Michigan by the Bottle has a vast selection of wine, and every single wine I tried was great. The little flight of snacks that came with our Groupon was also amazing. (And helped with all the wine!) The ambiance is very chill. I was able to have a conversation with my friend without yelling, and the background noise was just loud enough so that it didn't feel dead. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the wine selections! If you're looking for a good spot for a date night, girls night, or event, I strongly recommend Michigan by the Bottle!
google avatar

Morgan A.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Big open area, bar in the middle of the place, they also have tables you can sit at. It acts as a satellite location for some Michigan wineries. They have a few different tasting options on the menu along with some snacky items to pair with your wine choices. I had the full flight, 5 pours, and a little plate of two different cheeses and some chocolate. All of which is local. I loved the variety of wine choices. Our waitress was very nice and informative. If you order a full flight, you get $5 towards a bottle of wine, which I absolutely used! I will definitely come back here. Perfect for a casual night out with the girls, date night, or mom and daughter day!

Yelp
Great selection of wines I wish they had grand Traverse wine available they did have peninsula cellars which was good very good prices on bottled wine suggest that you come check it out

Yelp
We went to the Sips and Sushi event last night and it was amazing. The featured menu, from Big Wave Sushi, was excellent. We got a lot of food and wine for just $50 - an appetizer, a salad, miso soup, three large piece of nigiri, 7 piece of sushi and ice cream to finish it off. The paired wines were great too. I've visited this location at least ten times, and we always have a great experience - the staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I almost always get the flight tour, which includes 5 wine samples and a dessert wine. It also comes with cheese, crackers, chocolate and a truffle for dessert. It's a great value at $17. It's also a bonus that you get money off a bottle purchase with every flight. The atmosphere is great, and they almost always have music on Friday nights too.

Carly Z.

Yelp
I ordered a bottle ($17) because it would be cheaper than getting two glasses. I was told there was a $12 "uncorking fee." When I asked what that was, the server told me that I would not be charged if I finished the bottle before I left. Perfect! My friends and I finished it. Then, I get my bill and my ONE bottle of wine was $39. (I could get it for $7 at the store.) Turns out, my server gave me the exact wrong information. Such a rip off.

Yelp
An absolute gem for Royal Oak to discover. The owners Shannon and Cort have done a fantastic job introducing the lower Detroit area a sample of all the wonderful parts of Michigan wine. You have to come out and give this place a try!!! You won't be disappointed with the brand new location. It's fantastic! Come and get yourself some Michigan wine, and support a great business!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I love the clean atmosphere when you walk in. Fresh artwork on the wall, obvious layout, no confusion, well-lit. It was a great way to spend a Sunday evening. Is it the best wine tasting? No. But do they support Michigan wineries, have a friendly staff, and an ample selection? Of course! I was not disappointed by any means and I thought it was a very interactive experience. I would return for sure, maybe for one of their many events!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a great experience when we came here to meet some friends for some wine tasting. We were greeted promptly and seated. They were very knowledgeable about all their products and knew what paired very well with foods and snacks they had offered. The whole experience was very very pleasant, would definitely recommend coming here for a nice day out drinking, or maybe evening.

Yelp
Fave date spot evaaa. Seriously though its my #1 go to. Probs been here at least 3 times for some double dating action. I mean where else can you get a $12 flight of wine with Cheese and Chocolate included + live acoustic entertainment?! Totes romantic. Servers a nice - little slow to bring things out sometimes. I love that everything is sourced from Michigan. When you buy a wine flight on the weekend, you get a $5 credit to put towards any bottle to take home. What a great deal! Fellas...do your self a favor and take your girl (or fella) here for a hot date night!
google avatar

Carrie P.

Yelp
Music was very good but wine is just passable. I know it's Michigan wine but there's much better wine when you go to the vineyards in the traverse city area. Place is expensive. They nickel and dime you for everything Not going back anytime

Samantha O.

Yelp
BEWARE OF "RECORKING FEE". My husband and I ordered a bottle of wine and were aware of a "recorking fee" of $12. We did not need to take the rest of the bottle home so we assumed to only pay for the price of the bottle on the menu. We then got charged the $12 recorking fee. They further explained the $12 recorking fee is applied to ALL bottle purchases, regardless if you take the remaining amount home. Extremely misleading and disappointing.

Yelp
Great wine, great selection, wonderful service. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon when they first open, we had the place to ourselves. Our bartender was very friendly, knowledgeable and explained our options. We shared a nice wine flight and some flight bites (cheese and chocolate). Definitely will be stopping in again.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing. A tasting room that offers a ton of different wine from Michigan. They give you 5 pours 2oz pours and pair it with cheese and chocolate. The offer smaller tastings or wine by the glass, and they also have a food menu you can order from as well. Unfortunately I didn't try any of their other food. Everything I did try was amazing. Especially the Aviatrix Crimson Bordeaux blend! I ended up going back a few days later and bought a bottle of it. Also there was one girl working when we first got there, she was probably doing about 10 tastings all by herself and she handled herself amazingly and was able to help everyone quickly and efficiently. Thankfully two other girls showed up within 30 minutes from our arrival so she wasn't by herself for too long, but I want to give the original girl a good review! I forgot her name sadly, but we were visiting on 12/20 at about 4pm if that helps at all!

Yelp
I LOVE coming here for a wine tasting! I have celiac disease, so I had to make sure I was careful with the snacks. My biggest annoyance is when I'm trying to figure out if I can have something and someone goes "idk it's cheese". Like yes, I know it's cheese but their could be a dusting of flour on it. However, there is one employee there who is so knowledgeable and understanding. She understands cross contamination and the concern I have when I asked. She brought me out the packages and help me the whole way through! It's nice to be able to come somewhere and not feel ashamed for having something you can't control. This place is a lot of fun, always has new and amazing wines to try and is worth every penny!
google avatar

tomico J.

Yelp
Some friends and I visited for a birthday celebration. This is definitely a fun place to go for tasting. The customer service was great! We were each given a menu to pick the wines we wanted to taste. Then they place the wine on a number sheet so you know which wine is which. The only complaints I have is that we went on a Saturday evening and it would have been nice to hear some light nice music playing to change the atmosphere. Also, the cheese and chocolate were too strong for my taste. The almonds were too salty and the crackers was not tasty. I would have loved a nice cheese platter to compliment the different wines. I will definitely come back for some fun!!!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
I came today for a board game meet up and I could not think of a more perfect place for this kind of event. I got a flight and was impressed with everything I tasted. I also got some cheese and chocolate squares which were a nice touch, but I wish I could have known what kind of cheese it was so I could pair it a bit better. I tried quite a few ciders. Apparently their policy is to only have a few bottles open, but we really lucked out. Some members of our group wanted to play Cards Against Humanity. A manager came by and asked us not to as a way of maintaining the atmosphere. I was very impressed by how she handled it.

Yelp
One of if not THE BEST wine tasting places around! I love the Royal Oak location and the girls working there are awesome, especially Veronica! My friends and I go here all the time and are never disappointed! You get discounts on bottles of wine if you buy a big pour and they have great snacks and are always bringing in different wines that are almost always Michigan made! Love this place!! A++++++

Yelp
Loved this place!!! Me and my sisters went in on a Friday afternoon around 430 pm and stayed until around 8 pm. The staff was great. Very informative and friendly. We even had awesome conversation with the lovely couple sitting down the bar from us. Best place to try new wines for a great price. There was wonderful live entertainment as well. We will be regulars.

Yelp
We are club members so that must tell you something!! Have been here 4 times and had a great time each time. Most recently, took our daughter in law and two sons for an afternoon tasting for our daughter in law's birthday. The wines were great and we literally gorged ourselves on the charcuterie board, dip board and pretzels!!! All was SO GOOD ..... AND we purchased a case of wine to share amongst ourselves. The staff was amazing and allowed us plenty of time to enjoy the food and wine. Such a great place to gather. We will be back!!

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING AND PERFECT FOR DATE NIGHT! We were searching around on Yelp for "wine bars" and this gem was not in the initial top ten (probably because it's new) but it should be! It's exactly what we wanted and the price was right. Going here is like going to a winery except you have access to a bunch of Michigan made wines to get flights for. Move over whole glass, who doesn't love the variety? Plus the flights come with "flight bites" to enjoy with your wine - all local, all delish. All the packages are between $15 - $25 a person depending on the time of day you come in (drinking before 6pm gets you a discount!), which is totally reasonable for what you get. We did a Full Flight (comes with five wines and bites) of whites, and a Tour (comes with five wines, bites, a dessert wine and a truffle). We got to try 11 different wines in all and it was really fun. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. We will define toy be returning for another date night, and potentially for one of their special nights of comedy, dinner, books, etc. Check it out!

Greg B.

Yelp
What a delightful place. This was my first time there and we ordered "the tour" this included, 5 flights of Michigan wine, Michigan cheese, chocolate, and nuts. All for under 20 dollars. We went to see a friend who was displaying art there. What a nice surprise. The staff was very informative and very nice. I will be back. Great place for a first date.

Yelp
I am not sure why this place has such good ratings, I was really hoping for a place that would knock my socks off. This place is spacious and clean. There are many types of wine to try, however none are made by this winery, as this winery is a distributor for several wineries. The service was good, little time was spent explaining the wines, but questions were for the most part answered. We arrived at 6:30 which placed us in the premium time frame for prices..... SERIOUSLY, $5 extra just to try the wines after 6:00 pm, absolutely ridiculous. It was $17 for 1 flight 5 samples of wine. There were 3 slices of cheese and two chocolates to go with this but totally overpriced even at the normal price. The wine bottles were higher than average also. The wines we did choose were good and if you bought a bottle they did give you $5 off one bottle. Not sure we will come back at this price, considering there are other options. This place I was really hoping would win me over but no such luck. If I do come back it will be before 6, as that extra $5 per person adds up.
google avatar

Camille T.

Yelp
The staff is very nice and helpful. I love that they have many local wines that you can't find in the regular grocery stores. I was so happy when I stopped in to get my friend a birthday gift and found one she bought while we were in Traverse City on a wine tour! We have also attended the Hard Cider and donut event. It was a nice time! The donuts were amazing and they gave you a discount for any bottle of wine you bought to take home. I will definitely be back to enjoy a wine tasting with friends or my husband!

Yelp
Check this place out! It is something different to do and is so much fun! Perfect date or girls night. We went on a Friday and they had a guitarist/singer. Great atmosphere to catch up with people and try some new wines!

Jodi Z.

Yelp
Went for a special event "Hard Cider and Doughnuts". Tickets were $14.72 for 2 Doughnuts and 1 pour of cider. Not a good value at all. Tasting room was uncomfortably hot and humid as well. Overall a disappointing experience. I will not return.

Dave S.

Yelp
Last night was a great event for our firm and more importantly for our clients. This whole experience with your company has been "top notch". Pete did a wonderful job presenting the wines. Veronica did a fantastic job making sure we had everything we needed. She made us feel like it was our place and made sure every one of our guests had a lovely experience. Also, Nathan and Lanie were exceptional with their service and pleasantry toward everyone in the room. I would recommend you, your staff, and your facility to anyone looking for a fun and entertaining experience.

P S.

Yelp
This was my first visit at this location (I've been to the auburn hills location). I came around 7:30/8 on a Friday night because I knew there would be live music. Just like another reviewer, if you come after a certain time on the weekends you are charged an additional $5 for a flight, but will be credited if you purchase a bottle. For the future, I'll be coming at an earlier time to avoid this. It would be nice if there were tasting flights that included a big pour (hint hint). Or flights that included different food - the cheese was just "meh" in my opinion. Also, the wine selections weren't that impressive. I know each location has different wines and they are constantly rotating, but there wasn't anything that really "wowed" me - compared to my visit at the Auburn Hills location where I had to talk myself down from buying 5 bottles to only 1.

Yelp
7-29-17 Had a blast here with friends and family!! Ordered The Tour!!! Wine, cheese, crackers, and chocolate all made in MI with a very strong aged taste. The music could have been better for a Saturday night and the air needed to be turned up. We asked and the waiter she just said oh the air is on. Also be aware of the "special pour" , it's only 1oz of dessert wine. Here I'm thinking special pour means at least a glass of my choice!! Not even close! They also should consider a happy hour menu!!! Or eat before you go! there are no wings and fries! I would definitely go back!!
