We decided to stop here and have lunch. Great historic bar in calumet. The inside seating area is pretty small, but we sat at the bar so we didn’t have to wait. My husband and daughter both had burgers and said they were very good. I had the chicken Caesar salad wrap. The fries were great! Cool place to stop and eat lunch

Google
Such a cool vibe here! Very eclectic, fun atmosphere. Service was top notch, good drinks and great food. The walnut- based meatless burger is delicious. Tasted the black and blue burger as well- full of flavor, not greasy. Their chips are SO good. One of our fave restaurants.

Marina Paulson

Google
This place has amazing food and beer! Definitely recommend. The ladies working were very nice and friendly. And you can order food in until they close which is awesome. The place is cozy as well

Google
This place has really good food and the atmosphere is wonderful. The service wasn't. When we arrived there was a wait and we put our name on the list. Unfortunately they didn't go by the list and seated people ahead of us who had come in after we did. Our waiter was friendly but absent minded. I had to call him to the table more than once just to place our order. May not go here again and we are staying a month.

Google
Went to the restaurant, not the hotel! The pulled pork wrap was delicious! The only thing is that the space in the back for those who reserved was a bit crowded and a bit awkward. The decor was beautiful tho! Parking was difficult to find and had to walk...

Robert Webber

Google
Not much of a brew pub as they never seem to have much beer when we visit. This time they had one beer which was not very good. But we got an excellent soup and service was great.

Chris Grant

Google
Good food beautiful old decor! I love the history in this building. Nice beer selection. Great place to stop in Calumet!

Tony Michalski

Google
Not what it used to be...food seems rushed with onions in the chili crunchy and fries burned while not done inside. Draft beer system not working. Glad to see cross business support with Jules bakery.

Yelp
Great cold beer brewed in house, food was delicious. Hands down some of the best potato skins we've had.

Yelp
Decent spot for some standard salads, wraps, burgers. Service was a little slow/lacking, and food was decently tasty. Portions were decent, and prices were pretty standard as well. Would probably want to explore some other options around before returning back here but definitely wouldn't be opposed to it. Would've given it 3.5 stars if I could.

Yelp
All goodnice to get out and have someone else do the cooking. Great service. Food good and still one of our favorite places. Always clean including bat

Yelp
Service -- very friendly people, but it took almost 40min to get our food. Food -- when the food did come, it was cold. I ordered French Onion soup which had chunks of dried herbs in it -- didn't even feel like they had been cooked. My husband ordered a sandwich which was okay; the chips were good. Ambiance -- the stained glass and old decor was kinda cool to look at while we waited, but for such a long wait, it would have been nice to have some history on the restaurant around to engage us. Accessibility -- there's a rather inconvenient step into the building and an awkward door. Not wheelchair accessible. Maybe walker accessible. The bathrooms were accessible with grip handles.

Yelp
This is a great example of "don't judge a book by its cover" because if you do, you'll miss out on the experience to walk back in time - and miss out on good food and GREAT hospitality! Inside is original stain glass accents, original mural on the ceiling in the bar area and cool decor from the mining days. The menu has a lot to offer and they have a great beer selection, some from their in-house brewing as well! We had the French onion soup which was very tasty. We had the burger - made your way and it was juicy and delicious. We also had the salmon Caesar wrap which was a great change of pace from chicken. I think this was one of my favorites. The extra surprise is the house cut fries - Best. Fries. Ever!

Jamie M.

Yelp
I disagree with Christina M.'s review about the French onion soup. There were no herb chunks and it was hot and fresh. There was no food delay. The pork sandwich i had was amazing!! The service was good. I requested and got a custom drink off the menu too! Very cool decorations. inage

Yelp
A really great place to stop in Calumet. The Cobb Salad with chicken was excellent, one of the best I've ever had. Other positives - friendly servers and a fun atmosphere!

M G.

Yelp
The restaurant is very cool, with lots of original details (the tile floor is amazing). Burgers were good, but the hand-cut fries were undercooked. They would have been much better if they were cooked until crispy.

Yelp
Good food, good beer, friendly staff. You can't ask for more than that! Oh wait, the decor is awesome and has a story behind it. Emma was our waitress and she was wonderful. A great little gem in Calumet.

Yelp
I have been going to Michigan house every Friday for a few years now and I enjoy my dining experience every time and I have a few notes 1. This review won't be too accurate due to tmrw face that my party is always in the back seating area so I don't know about bar life and atmosphere 2. The food is good and I usually get the potato skins (no tomato) with the ranch and it tastes delectable but there is not enough bacon but that is just a personal preference 3. The service is great and we usually get our drinks on the table in the first few minutes and ordering is quick. Also, the wait staff is super friendly Overall, Michigan house is a great place to get dinner while in Calumet PS. For Pokémon GO players there's a good amount of Pokémon and Pokémon stops in the area Thanks for reading!

Yelp
Amazing service! Our server was Erin and she was a joy! She was fun, attentive, but let us be and eat our food. Love that. The food was also excellent, huge portions and the hand cut fries were incredible. We both had a burger and fries and I had a cherry cider and he had a beer. Good prices on the drinks too! The building was super neat and it was fun to check out the inside while waiting for our food(which came out super quick). We will be back!

David H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food here. The staff made sure to keep my drink full, suggested a great choice for dinner. The blue cheese burger was really good and the fries were good too. I was definitely full at the end of the meal. Price was reasonable too! Definitely recommend it.

Yelp
We stopped in just to check a brewery off my list! I wouldn't really consider this a brewery but more of a dinner spot and/or bar! They had 4 beers they brew themselves but only had 3 available! They were all just pretty okay! Really historic old building which was super awesome if that's your thing! But a very small town vibe!

Yelp
Such a great place, friendly staff and the food is always fresh and flavorful. A must stop during the holidays too'. Cozy and decorated with holiday vibes!

Yelp
This establishment is also known as Red Jacket Brewery. It's in the historical town of Calumet. One thing that I loved about this town, besides the old buildings...the color of the brick throughout the town. It is a beautiful shade of red. I found that to be rather charming! This was one of our first stops on the way up to Copper Harbor. This is a very unique spot that doubles as a restaurant/brewhouse and a hotel. We enjoyed the interesting decor of the restaurant; it's such a mixture of old & new with a very cool German mural on the ceiling. You could tell that this place has withstood the test of time. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our conversation with the bartender. W really couldn't ask for more, our beer was good and our beer was cold! lol
google avatar

Debi P.

Yelp
Historic value of building is great, food not so much. My burger was burnt! I don't recommend this place.

Marie K.

Yelp
Interesting place. No one was taking names so we put our name on a list that was sitting by the bar. After about 15 minutes we were seated....20 minutes later we were 'discovered' and our order was taken - for both drinks and food.... Food arrived about 45 minutes later....super long for the sandwiches we ordered. Both sandwiches, on the menu, were supposed to come with fries.....both arrived with potato chips. Food was good....

Yelp
Excellent and friendly service, beer selection was good and the burgers are outstanding!

Yelp
This is a great place to go for burgers, chili, and pork sandwiches. This time around I got one of their sausage sandwiches, but compared to the burgers or other sandwiches I wouldn't recommend it. It was wrapped in bacon, but I felt it needed mustard and sauteed onions as well. Their buttered rum is one of my favorites. It'll warm you up quickly on a cold day. They have their own beer as well, but I've never tried it. The decor is a lot of random stuff, especially if you sit on the far side. The side with the bar has a lot of snowshoes and other items, and the far side makes me feel like I'm in someone's house due to the layout.

Yelp
I gave this four stars because of its remote locale - at 'home' I'd call this a three star place. A homey little spot in Calumet with decent food and beverages. Service is pretty slow but aggressively friendly (at least our server). Had a wrap and a chicken panini type sandwich. The wrap was reportedly very good - the chicken panini with peppadew peppers was ok. Pretty greasy, which seems odd since there was nothing greasy on it. Also, a lot of collectibles and old 'stuff' around which was cool, but most of it was super dusty and gross. A little dusting would make it a happier place to eat/drink.

Yelp
The Michigan House provides a nice sit down dinner with stunning decor. Make sure to look up, down, and all around to see old machinery, murals, and snow shoes! At peak season during dinner, expect a wait for a table. The wait staff were attentive and kind. Our burgers were made to order and very juicy. Gluten free options are limited but they accommodated a lettuce wrap. There are several salad options. We left with full and happy bellies.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
I thought this place was very quaint and cozy! The fish and chips were delicious!! Big portion too! Service was friendly and very timely! If I visit Calumet again, will definitely go back! Almost forgot to mention the beautiful Christmas tree!

Ken R.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. The food has always been good. Julie is the BEST waitstaff. Try to get her if possible. The bartender with the platinum hair and tattoos seem very slow and oblivious to the waitstaff while she "entertained" her customers at the bar. She needs to go. Certainly one of the better places to go in Calumet.

Yuka B.

Yelp
Good food overall. Nice buzzing waitress. One buzzing fly that rendered my breadstick useless. The french onion soup hit the spot after a long work day. The decor is interesting with many tid bits about this old mining town.

Yelp
The food is good, but the service is always sub par. We try to stop in at least once on our annual vacation, and this year we obviously had to work around the covid times. The seating area is not large, so to keep up with the new regulations, expect to wait for a table because it does get busy. However, the atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable as opposed to some of the other bars in town. Last year though, I wanted to show my dad how awesome the burgers were and we came in about a half an hour before close and were told to wait a few minutes for our table and were ignored after that. We ended up going and ordering takeout pizza instead. We didn't realize they were closing soon, but were still hoping to be seated which never happened. Anyway, the burgers are great and I love their pork. This last time we went in, they had sold out of all the pork which is disappointing, but a good sign. I ordered the pesto pasta, which came with all the noodles stuck together and some undercooked. Our server kept bringing us food that was meant to go to the table next to us. They do have good Red Jacket brews on tap.

Yelp
Server was enthusiastic and welcoming. Food was good -- Salmon Caesar Salad and Grilled Chicken Panini. Bar is historical and interestingly decorated.

Julia M.

Yelp
We love it!!! Beautiful spot with original decor, not faux stuff. Hipo Burger and popadew panini are our favorites! Great owners, Tim and Sue.

Lynn V.

Yelp
Best place to eat in Calumet. Some original décor, some neo-retro. Sit at the bar in the middle of the afternoon, have a beer, order the fish and chips or the peppadew panini. Five stars because it's Calumet.

Mark S.

Yelp
The bartender and wait staff were so nice and always smiling. The beers ranged from acceptable to very good. My burger and fries were above average for pub food. The menu did have options for a full dinner that were attractive. Prices were reasonable. The old world building is still pretty spectacular. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
This place is a must when you're in the Calumet area. The servers were friendly, the atmosphere was cool, lots of beer selection, and their food hit the spot!! I got the fish and chips and never looked back. Such a great treat. I would go back for more and try other dishes that also looked great.
google avatar

Kara K.

Yelp
Nice selection of drinks and food. Was chilly after a day of snowshoeing and the French onion soup hit the spot. Thought it would have been a little bigger of a crock for the price, but was plenty filling.
google avatar

Nicole U.

Yelp
The wine is warm and the paninis are cold. This used to be a good place to eat but tonight we spilt a bottle of wine and had to ask for ice for individual glasses and the paninis were not pressed and then contents were cold and not melted. This is outside the norm but as a local will not be back
google avatar

Yelp
If this were in an urban setting in the Lower Peninsula, I think it may warrant a solid four stars, but it's Calumet in the Upper Peninsula, so I had to bump it to five. The service wasn't the speediest, but we visited during July 2020 not too long after "reopening" in the COVID-19 pandemic, so I can't complain. The food was really good. Our server was friendly. My friend ordered the stout, loved it and suggested I do the same. She was correct--it's very delicious! The decor in the restaurant is also very interesting and eclectic. After walking around downtown Calumet seeing some of the sights and perusing some of the shops, the Michigan House was a nice place for lunch and we would definitely stop in again next time we're in Calumet.

Julia L.

Yelp
Good burgers and nice beer selection. Old building with neat decor! If your in the area I would recommend.

Yelp
I simply love this restaurant! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, food is always fresh and mostly homemade! Upon walking into the restaurant you feel like you have been transported into a time in history! The historic bar, decorations, photos, displays etc... this place really gives you a historic experience. The staff was very friendly, we went for a busy lunch hour today and had eight people. The food was well timed, well flavored and great portions for the price. Sometimes the food can take a bit longer due to the homemade piece but it's so worth the wait. I ordered the gipp burger, a juicy burger with onion strings, chipotle sauce and I added cheese with homemade French fries. So yum! Also I ordered a side of ranch dressing which also tastes homemade. We also shared two awesome apps for the table, the bruschetta which is filled with flavor and the potato skins! So yummy! Would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch, dinner, beer etc. They have great brewed beer as well!

Yelp
Our food was decent, but the service was terrible. We seemed to be ignored at the door with multiple tables open. When we were finally seated it took forever to get refills and our food. We were there approximately an hour and 40 minutes. Not worth it. They didn't have 2 of their own brewed beers I was going to order. Our server seemed to be doing one thing at a time. The bartender (perhaps manager) was doing shots with some biker. It felt like we were in an episode of Bar Rescue.
google avatar

Christy K.

Yelp
Disappointing service. Waiter appeared incapable of multitasking. Got seated and water. Had to ask for beer menu. Finally got that, placed order for two beers, panini with chips and fish with fries. Got salad that came with fish, ate it, and flagged down waiter. Asked for our beers, he said something like oh shoot and took the salad plate. He then proceeded to bring food out for other tables, then bus the table next to us. When he was almost done we asked what hAppened to our beers. Finally got those. Almost finished beers before got food,,an hour after we'd gotten there. Panini and fish were good. Chips and fries were nothing spectacular. Had to ask twice for our check.

Yelp
A hidden gem...definitely worth a stop! The bar is a classic and the service is great (thanks Lexi). They have great food and a great menu.

Yelp
My only regret is that I found out about this place in my fifth and final year at Michigan Tech. After being mistreated and disappointed by other local places like The Library, this was the antithesis that I was searching for. At first I was apprehensive because the decor is a bit tacky and overwhelming at first, but after you sit for awhile the charm of it certainly grows on you. I've gone at least twice a month since discovering it and I've always had A+ service here and never been disappointed with the food. Their Gipp Burger may be the best burger that I've ever had in my worldly burger travels. The Oatmeal Stout will suddenly make KBC beer taste like water. I also manage to always save room for dessert(usually by fasting a day beforehand), as their Amaretto Chocolate Cheesecake is out of this world and roughly 2-3 times the size of a normal cheesecake slice. I highly recommend sticking with the server's suggestions because they know what they are about. This place is the only one in the Keweenaw I've deemed worthy or my business and attention at every chance I get.
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
Was ok. Lovely historical building. The salad was good and enjoyed their famous Green Goddess dressing. Would pass on the potato skins as they were very bland. The French Onion soup was ok. Overall an 'ok' 3-star experience.

Tom L.

Yelp
The food was wonderful, the beers were delicious and the building has some super neat history to it!

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch on Tuesday...we had previously been there back in October of 2010 and my husband was hoping they still had the Peppadew Panini on the menu (they did!). We walked in...chose a table and our waitress brought us our drinks quickly. My husband had the Oatmeal Espress Stout and I had a Keweenaw Cowboy IPA..both were super delicious. My husband ordered the Peppadew Panini and I ordered the Roma Panini....our food came out quickly and it was very delicious. We stopped back on Thursday to pick up a few growlers to take home. Overall? we highly recommend. We truly think that the Red Jacket Brewing Company beer beats the Keweenaw Brewing Company Beer hands down... Go, sit a spell...eat a great sandwich and drink some great beer...oh and the staff is great too!
google avatar

Hal R.

Yelp
This has to be one of the nicest stops on our snowmobiling trip so far. This is pure Michigan at its best!
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
The lines on their taps definitely need to be changed out. The oatmeal express stout is the better of all their beers, but the rest are not even drinkable imo.
google avatar

Toni R.

Yelp
If you enjoy waiting 50 minutes for your appetizer then this is the place for you. This was ridiculous. There weren't many customers here while we were here and we had to wait almost an hour for our app. I find this amount of time unacceptable. I watched customers who came in after us receive their food before us which is never a good thing. While the food wasn't too bad the wait was absolutely ridiculous. With minimal attention from our waitress or any apology on the wait. I would not recommend, nor will I return to this establishment.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Food is very good. One big problem though. You never know when they are closed.. stopped in the other day and found out the hard way it was closed.

Mary L.

Yelp
This place has the best pulled pork I have ever eaten. We ordered the Drunken Pig and it is to die for. I will definitely be back for that. Husband ordered the Michigan Burger. Stated it was delicious and was good quality beef. The best part of the meal (which we didn't think could be topped) was the amaretto chocolate cheesecake....OMG. We shared pieces between 2 people and went into chocolate heaven overload!!! Service was also good.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
We loved this place - awesome location, history, and food! The havarti cheese appetizer was delicious. French Onion soup was also a standout - better executed than most places. They used walnut veggie burger patty that we enjoyed (not vegan!) and the fries with the sandwich were also fantastic. We had Apple pie and ice cream to finish and it was a memorable meal.

Yelp
There are a lot of good things to do in the UP. When in Calumet, this is one of those places that deserve a visit. We went when it wasn't too busy, so I can't compare to other reviews at busy times. However, our food was all fresh and prepared properly and the wait staff were attentive yet not overbearing (I hate when the wait staff won't leave me alone). There are a lot of beautiful old buildings in Calumet - it's amazing what all that copper wealth built. This is housed in one of those old buildings as well. Next time I'm in the area, I'm going to come back. It's worth it!
