Michoacán Mexican Restaurant

We've been here 2 or 3 times and ordered delivery probably 5 times. We are always happy.

Birria tacos were pretty good first time ordering. This time is was Completely terrible. Meat was Fatty as ever, not shredded one bit., thick slab of fat on all 3 tacos., bit into a fat slab and was disgusted. Don’t eat and lost appetite., 33$ wasted also taco shells were soggy and broke apart

This place has THE BEST birria tacos that I have had in Durham! They were stuffed to capacity and very filling! I had to bring some home! They were even better cold at home! My wife also enjoyed her Arroz com pollo, and my son (for the first time) enjoyed Mexican food. He devoured his burrito! This place is amazing!! They had great and friendly service, the atmosphere was impeccable, and we were amazed at the GREAT PRICE! We picked the perfect place to celebrate cinco de mayo!

Great frickin food and quick helpul service. Cheap beer and nice strong drinks.

Y'all. This place was SO SO GOOD! I had the burrito azteca, my husband had the chori pollo and my teenager had the burrito grande. The chorizo was flavorful, the steak in my burrito was tender, and my son loved his. I was so happy to be eating this. It came out fast, which was great because I worked a long shift and was starving. The waitress was pleasant, they checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying the food. Really, I have nothing negative to say at all. The only reason for the 4 star on atmosphere was because it was a little on the chilly side inside and the restaurant is small, which would make it hard for wheelchairs or large parties.

Small Mexican restaurant with solid food. I mostly get takeout but small dining area is nice enough. Menu offers a variety of options and most everything I have had is good. Friendly staff. I have read complaints about customer service, but aside from food maybe taking a few minutes longer than they have told me have never had a problem. And, it may not be a 5 star service experience eating in, but it is friendly service that is fine.

Delivery order was totally wrong. Ordered a chicken burrito that was full of refried beans and no chicken meat. Ordered Sopapila that I did not receive. I called and was hang up on. I would not order from a restaurant that is so deceptive with serving their food, that they will not do what is right by the customers. I spend $$ and could not get satisfied service or correction for their mistakes.

So upset that I ordered birria quesadillas and it had chick peas in both the soup and quesadillas! I have never had birria with chick peas. I eat birria all the time from many different places. I think they should have showed a picture and/or explain that they have chic peas. That is nasty. I’m so mad I wasted my money.

I got my food delivered via Postmates and it was super tasty! Steak Tortas: This was my favorite dish! I loved the sandwich stuffed with steak, veggies, and cheese. Great flavor. The sandwich came with fries which were okay. I'm sure the fries would have been much better fresh at the restaurant. Two Item Combo with Shredded Beef Burrito & Ground Beef Burrito: I couldn't distinguish between the ground beef and shredded beef, but both burritos were delicious! The rice and refried beans were good too. Chori Pollo: The chicken was well seasoned and the chorizo on top was tasty. This dish came with corn tortillas and they were good, but I prefer flour tortillas.

I enjoyed my lunch at Michoacan. Great service and good food. I started with the seafood dip, which consisted of grilled shrimp and queso. The shrimp had a great charbroiled flavor, so I assume they have a real grill in the kitchen. I also ordered the lunch poblano. There was a bit too much mole sauce, but it was tasty. More than enough food! I enjoyed the music and the vibrant atmosphere. The place filled with patrons by noon.

We really enjoyed this place. It was a little more Tex-Mex than Mexican but either way, the food was really delicious. It's a very small hole-in-the-wall place but it was perfect for a quick low-key date night on a night when we were both too tired to cook. Our service was nice though she didn't speak English well. She did a good job. They seem to have a pretty robust amount of take out business. It's an option we will likely take advantage of soon.

Staff members were nice and the decor and ambiance is really fun. The music they play adds to the experience. They did have the news playing on the TV though and I didn't like that. The food is pretty bad. The chips and salsa that come with the meal are pretty good. Crispy chips with a bit of flavor. The salsa is not spicy but that was okay. The strawberry margarita wasn't strong as far as alcohol but had a strong strawberry flavor. Like a strawberry slushie. I ordered the burrito del mar and it came as enchiladas. It was two small tortillas filled with just shrimp and covered in a cheese sauce that was just literally melted white cheese. Not great. Lettuce and tomatoes and avocado came on the side so I sort of had to assemble it myself to get something decent. The rice was dry and bland. My mom ordered a chimichanga and got taquitos. Pretty sure they were out of large tortillas and just didn't tell us. The chocoflan was not bad.

I normally get takeout. I recently tried for the first time the burrito Azteca and this is literally one of the best burritos I've ever ever had. I would strongly recommend getting the burrito Azteca. It is jampacked with rice, chorizo, and steak and served wet with queso and greensalsa. Very delicious.

We got delivery and the food was good. Not a gourmet treat or anything but better than a lot of other Mexican restaurants. Servings were generous and prices were reasonable. They had a few choices, like a burrito with nopales, you don't usually see on a Mexican restaurant menu so that was good. And we got what we asked for which can be a problem some times when you get delivery.

I've driven by this restaurant multiple times but never have eaten here until today. It's a small unassuming restaurant. Most people seem to order to-go here. We had two margaritas, supreme burrito, and chicken enchiladas. The service was quick, efficient, and servers were sweet. We were greeted by crispy tortilla chips and medium spicy salsa. The menu had some prices crossed out but not updated. The food was affordable with a margarita about 6$ and portion size huge. The small lime margarita was cutely decorated with an umbrella. It was tasty but a bit warm initially but if you gave it some time it cooled down. Maybe, they did not shake it. The food is filling but lacked chiles/spice but still good. Overall, this restaurant is a solid 4. I think if they updated their menus with the correct prices and put some Chile/jalapeños in their dishes, it would make a big difference.

This place is a no stars! They also run a taco truck in carrboro and Hillsboro N.C. so don't go there either. Food is okay which is why I went to them did not have any issues with them at first Now to this day I'm starting to get charges on my card from them again even though it's been weeks almost 2 months since I've bought from them again They have a small restaurant in Durham I recommend you don't go there because if this happens to you then they will pay you your money or ignore you and ask for your bank statements but won't give you the contact info of the person that supposedly runs their financial affairs If you ever feel your missing money scroll through your statements far back and watch their charges bring charges again I've had no issue with any other business with my card except them Let's say you go to the restaurant and complain there will prob not be a manager or the owner available because they are too busy to call or to come in and fix the issue, specially for a small business you'd expect them to be always available or have a manager I supported them and gave them the benefit of the doubt but 6 times is no mistake

I've been in a scavenger hunt of sorts for some new to me Mexican food places and this is a superstar! They have a nice vegetarian menu that is both filling and delicious. I have never been able to finish a burrito here-they are seriously twice the size as chipotle as about the same price. Lots of veggies, beans and rice, topped with sour cream, lettuce, sauce and cheese. The chips and salsa are very good and they give you regular, green and a sweet version to try. The guacamole was a little brown and I may have gotten the dip instead of the salad kind which I will do next time. This place has it all for me and I'm happy for I find a great option to come back to.

Some of the best Tex Mex around. Order the Doña Maria. You get a sampling of 5 different things. Chile Relleno Poblano, Enchilada verde, carne asada, taquito de pollo, frijoles, aquacate, pico de gallo. It seems like people are hating on their takeout or their customer service? I've never ordered the takeout and the customer service is what it is. Just go for the dine-in and enjoy the food!

Very classic, almost stereotypical, Tex-Mex food from a nice little establishment. For about a year I knew them only through delivery (because pandemic) and recently got the chance to dine in. The space is (somewhat uncomfortably) small, but we had no trouble finding a safely distanced table on a weekday. The staff is super attentive and kept our drinks and salsa/chips full. They've got a great selection of your standard Mexican-style foods. The value is pretty good among comparable places (I can eat a meal and have another leftover for around $15). Besides the convenient proximity to my house, there's nothing that especially stands out. It's good, cheap, Americanized Mexican food that'll hit the spot if that's what you're craving.

Taco salad was almost like a taco soup. Super liquidity sour cream and wet lettuce. It doesn't help they use refried beans instead of whole beans in a salad

We weren't really sure what to expect based on its appearance and lack of reviews, but boy did they deliver! Chips and salsa were plentiful, the entrees were all hot and delicious, and the service was top notch! I had the arroz con pollo and it was exactly as described. Others at the table had the enchiladas and burritos and everyone let stuffed (and with some to go boxes). I will be sure to visit next time I'm in the area.

The eatery was clean and inviting, the food was flavorful and aplenty, and we left happy and stuffed to the guild with Mexican happiness in our minds and hearts! Our server was very friendly and helpful, and appreciated her attentiveness to refills. The place isn't huge, but it's big enough if your concerned with the whole social distancing thing. Overall, a great first visit!

Service was not that great food was ok it was mediocre at best and the card reader steals your information

Ordered from this restaurant through a delivery service. Apparently, when the driver showed up, they had given our food to someone else & refused to remake it. So our order was canceled. NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We were excited to eat here, but won't be wasting our time again.

Woah! Don't let this spot miss your radar! Ordered carry out this weekend and was really impressed with the flavor and quality. As a native Texan, I tend to have some strict standards for Mexican food. But, Michoacan stood up to the test and delivered. I had the Paiza tacos and they were fantastic. Also sampled some of the ceviche and it was tremendous. You could easily miss this spot since it's tucked away in the shopping center, but don't let that happen. This is some of the tastiest Mexican food I've had in NC.

the quesadilla was inedible. It was the worst quesadilla I have ever had. Fake cheese, greasy, no flavor, and terrible guacamole. Horrendous

I'm a regular ordering customer-- the food has great flavor and taste, but ; the customer service is going "DOWNHILL!!!" If you order from this restaurant , "please" ensure your order is correct because I personally had a bad experience with paying for online food delivery through the GrubHub service--- the restaurant left one of two items out of my order and wanted me to come and pick it up myself---as I was speaking to one of the staff at the restaurant there, The young lady said that it was the restaurants' fault but--- They are very busy and needed me to come pick it up----- After this experience I will find another Mexican restaurant to order from (very rude service) ---

Ate there a couple of days ago with a friend of mine, and thoroughly enjoyed the food there....Definitely a friendly staff in this locally owned restaurant.....Definitely found the food to be great and I also enjoyed the people watching I was able to do there and they have some great drink specials and some big screen TVs if you are interested.....Will definitely be going back...

Full disclosure, we were driving home and the GPS placed us where I knew Rock n Roll sushi was so I immediately got excited. We called from the parking lot and the wait was far more than my hangry self could handle. It was raining and getting late so we just looked around and said why not. The restaurant itself is nothing to take note of but let's get to the food. The chips and salsa were on point and we ordered a seafood dip appetizer. There was a lot of big, yummy pieces of shrimp and it was delicious. For dinner I ordered the Mole Chicken and it was incredible. There is zero photographic evidence because I was so hungry I just chose eating over a photoshoot. I will definitely be back so I will take pics next time. The food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. Also something I should mention is I rarely have leftovers to take home because ya girl likes to eat. The portion size here is massive and I'm not mad about it. The staff was so attentive and sweet. They really hustled because it was very busy with dine in and take out orders. The staff checked on us a lot and were great. This was such a happy little accident you could say! We definitely will be back and I can't wait to try something else because the menu is a decent size and lots of things stood out as things I want to eat! Definitely recommend this place!! Can't wait to go back.

I tried their gorditas (tortilla pocket stuffed with meat and veggies and cheese) with the lengua and al pastor. The tortilla is a brighter yellow than other ones that I've had, and a little more crispy on the outside. I liked both, although the gorditas were on the small side. The person taking my order was really friendly, and gave me some extra salsa and chips even though my order was a take out! I would've given it a 3 or 3.5 stars for the food itself, but I think the service bumped it up for me. Maybe next time I'll try something else and see if I'll rate it higher.

Really good huevos con chorizo. Went since I thought this was "the cow place" #2. Quick, friendly service. Would go back if in the area.

This place is absolutely amazing!!!! Contrary to what other reviews say we have never gotten anything bad. The food is always delicious, so much that we eat here at least once a week and as much as 3 times a week!!!!

Absolutely horrible experience. We got takeout and my wife and I found several small bones all throughout the chicken. Then I found a large one (pictured). We didn't feel good for a while after. Never ever again.

Ordered food from here for the first time and wow it was great. I ordered online so I received several sauces and unsure of what went with which dish I would up putting a dark salsa, almost blackish looking, on arroz con pollo. WOW. IT WAS AMAZING. It reminded me of this kind of pepper flake oil I used to have at a restaurant that closed down years ago and I've never been able to figure out what the ingredients were that made it so delicious. I have family coming into town next week and will DEFINITELY be taking them here. I'm so relieved to have found good Mexican food after just moving to this area. I have had trouble in the triangle area before finding good mexican food. I AM SO RELIEVED!

We've been looking for a legit Mexican restaurant for a long time, and now we need look no further. This place is amazing- authentic, delish, no frills just good Mexican food, my kind of place! We've eaten here a couple times and every time everything has been absolutely better than expected. Delicioso!

The food is so flavorful and delicious. I always order the vegetarian options and they are the freshest in Durham! This is my favorite place for Mexican food.

Flies, Sticky table and menus. We wiped menus with antibac wipes and came up with sickly yellow gunk. So we got ACP to go and all got sick. Side of black beans undercooked. Disappointing. Wait staff was nice.

Dreadful. I ordered a burrito from doordash and it was than worse taco bell. The burrito was lukewarm, it was swimming in sour cream, and the meat was fresh out of a can. I would rather have burger king than another burrito from here

One of my fav mexican restaurants in Durm. Very authentic food hand made tortillas. My fav dish is the veggie enchiladas with rice n beans. $9 cant beat that. A must to visit nice atmosphere inside tv's avail to watch.

Bought a caldo today, tasted like it had been made a few days ago. Big chunk of meat but it took away from what i actually wanted, caldo. Lady in the front was short, not friendly. Better places in Durham to try.

Best Horchata. My fiancé and I always come for tacos, tortas and taco salads. They are always delicious and fast.

The old La Vaquita II has been replaced by a new Mexican restaurant. The layout inside is nearly identical and they still have the La Vaquita sign outside up high. The extensive menu is fairly standard American-Mexican, looking to be much more Tex-Mex than La Vaquita, but they have a banner outside advertising Mexican Mexican food for a "limited time"! I hope they choose to extend the authentic menu! The Mex-Mex banner includes sopas ($3), gorditas ($3.50), tacos ($1.50), huaraches ($5), tortas ($6), and tortas Cubanas ($6.50). I got the torta Cubana, which was tasty and filling but nothing like I expected. It featured avocados, grilled meats, a hot dog, and a fried egg - a hot mess, but I enjoyed it! Maybe that's how they make them in Michoacan. Very close to Duke so I'm looking forward to trying out the rest of the options!

Good food. Customer service not so much. They said they never received my order. It was ordered through postmate. I even showed order confirmation. Was told she would look for my order after the other customers. And, they were taken ahead of me instead of looking for my order which was ordered online 20 minutes prior. They accused me of giving them the wrong name. Completely blamed it on me in front of other customers. My order was sitting on the counter before I ever arrived. It wasn't until I ordered her to check the bag, that it was found

The food was pretty good when I ordered for pickup, but I was disappointed the restaurant is not enforcing COVID-19 prevention measures. The cashier had a mask, but was wearing it on her chin. People walking in and out of the restaurant without wearing masks or distancing of any kind. I realize there's not much space in the restaurant to begin with, but that means they should just be doing pickup or delivery only at this time.

Tried this for the first time a few weeks ago and was impressed enough to bring a friend with me a week ago. Very good standard Mexican food delivered to your table by a pleasant eager to please staff. The daily special of chicken fajitas with drink for only $5 was an excellent value and was delicious. I will continue to come back!

Today was my first time trying this place and it was amazing! Everything was very fresh! You can definitely tell that they love what they do. I will for sure be ordering from here again!

I used to LOVE this place, but it's gone downhill. I don't know if it's under new management or if it's facing financial difficulties or what, but each order I've received lately has been worse than the previous one. My most recent order, the refried beans were runny, like someone added water to them. It was more like bean soup. Also, I ordered queso dip, and for $3.25, I got a depressingly tiny amount (also a tiny amount of salsa.. literally a 1/4 cup of both at most, and probably not even that much. Lastly, my fiesta nachos had barely any meat on them at all. Maybe a teaspoon's worth of each type. And they had the same nasty runny beans. Maybe it's different for eating in, but I've given them several takeout chances, and will no longer spend my money there unless something changes in a big way. It sucks because they used to be great.

This place replaced La Vaquita II, which was a hidden gem of a favorite we sometimes visited twice a week. We were disappointed to see the menu had changed to pretty standard Mexican restaurant fare, and the dishes we tried were pretty disappointing. This meal made us sad... we won't be going back, it just doesn't stand out in the sea of better Mexican restaurants in Durham.

3 1/2 stars. Great menu and food is really good. Friendly customer service. Also open late.

The best. Lunch specials are a full meal. Dinner specials are enough for even the biggest appetite! Their sauces, all of them, are delicious in every way! Can't go wrong with an enchiladas plate! Do pickup so they don't get fleeced by delivery apps if you go here often.

Ordered delivery from here with a group of coworkers. Food was very flavorful and portion sizes appropriate. Food was lukewarm upon arrival and comes in an aluminum container that's not microwavable for reheating. I ordered the pollo con arroz. Was to come covered with cheese. I could not tell that they had placed any cheese sauce on my dish which was disappointing. I had to use the side order of cheese dip on my dish. Also, called and was told that each dish came with a side of chips. We received one tiny bag of chips for 3 orders. If we order from here again, we will specify a bit more as to what we want now that we know what their standard is with delivery.

First visit. Very happy. The food is more flavorful than other Mexican restaurants in town. The service was friendly impeccable. I got the Texas Fajitas and my husband got a quesadilla and we were both impressed. Definitely coming back.

The WORST restaurant I've EVER ordered from. Save your money & stomach. We were their last order of the night so I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. But our food looked like dog s***. & I love Mexican food I hate to even say this. I ordered a CHEESE quesadilla & there was a straight up BONE in it. Lost my whole appetite. Then my friend scooped up some refried beans & pulled some 4in WIRE out of her mouth. This restaurant doesn't give a f*** literally disgusting. I called right away to say somethin & no one answered obviously nor ever got back to me. Thank god I ordered through UberEats & they issued a refund immediately. I reported the restaurant for safety concerns. S*** was nasty

The food I ordered was terrible!! A taco dinner for 9.00. The tacos were cold with clumpy cheese and less meat on them than Taco bell! I called to let them know my displeasure thinking that maybe the cook was sidetracked and they would give me a new meal that hopefully would be edible. The manager told me on the phone that they would replace my 2 tacos with 1 taco. I told them no thanks, I will never eat here again. Your food sucks. beware of this place!!!
