Warm and welcoming atmosphere. The sambusa is crispy and a great appetizer. The veggie platter is a must-order and pairs perfectly with extra protein options like key wot and yebeg tibs. Ethiopian coffee is freshly toasted from Ethiopian beans and thoughtfully served in an elegant container, with burning frankincense resin and popcorn on the side. Highly recommend!

I have been to Michuu 3 times thus far and they are an absolute HIT for my taste buds and appetite! The food is DELICIOUS and very well prepared with great portions and a beautifully colored presentation. The staff is very friendly, hospitable and makes me feel welcome and comfortable. I have already treated 2 of my friends to Michuu and will definitely encourage more people I know to come support and have a very satisfying experience! Keep up the great work!💗🙌🏽😋🙌🏽💗

Had the most delicious meal at Michuu tonight! Highly recommend the vegetarian platter and chicken sambusas (pictured). Gomen and kik alicha are my usual favorites and Michuu did not disappoint! Nice family style dining space and welcoming atmosphere 💕

I stopped by Michuu Ethiopian Restaurant and it instantly stood out as a warm, inviting place to dive into authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The interior feels cozy and unpretentious — simple décor, relaxed seating, and a friendly vibe that makes you feel welcome right away. I ordered a combination platter, and it was a feast in every sense of the word. The injera was soft and slightly tangy, perfect for scooping up the rich stews and vegetables. Each dish had distinct spices and depth — hearty, aromatic, and beautifully balanced. The lentils were flavorful without being heavy, and the spiced meats were tender and well-seasoned. Sharing the platter made the meal feel communal and fun. Service was warm and attentive, and the portions were generous. Overall, Michuu feels like a great go-to for Ethiopian food in Chicago — full of character, bold flavors, and satisfying comfort.

We ordered 4 dishes. Yemisir Wot: amazing 5/5 Dora Wat: also amazing 5/5 Yebeg Tibs: solid dish but missing the complexity of the above two. A little flat. 4/5 Zil-Zil Tibs: a bit chewy beef and more like a simple stir fry. Missing all the spices the other first 2 dishes had. 3/5 Service was great.

First time here, and I wasn't disappointed. I was in need of a new Ethiopian spot in and found Michuu. You are greeted with an Ethiopian coffee set at the front which I would've ordered if I didn't have to wake up early tomorrow. Got myself the Veggie Platter and 2 lentil Sambusas. The crispyness of the lentils made me devour it before it can cool down, and when the Veggie Platter arrived, I knew I was in for a good time. Of all the toppings on the platter, I am the biggest fan of beetroot, cabbage, and chickpeas. On a cold afternoon on a day I'm free, I'm definitely taking friends here for some crispy sambusa, delectable platters, and enjoy coffee from its original birthplace.

The owners (a wonderful husband-and-wife duo) treat every guest with such genuine hospitality and warmth. You can feel the love they put into the business. ​The Food: ​While many places serve standard fare, Michu stands out for its authentic Ethiopian food flavor and Oromo cultural dishes: ​Chororsa: Absolutely delicious and prepared with the original, traditional taste you rarely find outside of Ethiopia. ​Anchote: A must-try! It was flavorful, perfectly textured, and clearly made from scratch. ​Freshly Roasted Coffee: You haven't had coffee until you've had it here. They roast the beans fresh, and the aroma alone is worth the visit. ​The Vibe ​Despite being a group, we never felt rushed or neglected. The owners ensured everything was perfect, making us feel completely at ease. It is, hands down, the best Ethiopian restaurant in Chicago. ​Highly recommended for anyone wanting a true taste of Ethiopian food, Oromo culture and world-class hospitality! ​Tip: If you're going with a group, definitely try to save room for the coffee ceremony—it’s the perfect way to end the meal. Excellent home cooked dinner!! The veggie platter and coffee were both amazing and the service was kind and easy. I highly recommend Michuu and hope to be back soon.

Amazingly fresh and tasty! I've been to pretty much all the Ethiopian places in the Uptown/Edgewater area, and most of them many times, but my experience here was by far the best. Incredibly fresh, light ( I.e. not heavy or greasy), and luxuriously aromatic food. They also have my favorite tiff injera that I've had. Pleasantly decorated with charming and friendly staff. BYOB with a nominal charge for glasses. Fantastic value. Will definitely be back (many times).
