New Orleans’s Essential Irish Pubs | Eater New Orleans

"Nothing fancy, this Mid-City pub has been pouring pints for over a century. The atmosphere is all about the community formed within the pub’s walls. Things like crowdsourcing food from its patrons for Saints games makes the watering hole feel like your friendly neighbor’s boozy potluck, but way more fun. Catch World Cup games here." - Eater Staff

Great little pub with old school charm. It was quiet in the late morning when I visited. However, you can just imagine this place on St Patty's day. They have all the good dive bar beers. I ordered a Schlitz and my guest grabbed Pony high life. I'd definitely stop back in this little spot when I'm in town. Don't miss out on this little gem if you can.

Another neighborhood bar that I'm visiting for the 1st time. I only stopped in for a couple of beers while pub crawling. Big selection of beer and alcohol, so everyone should be able to find a drink they like. Pool table and juke box complete the vibe. I'll try their kitchen next go around.

Google
This place is a nice local neighborhood bar. The drinks are fairly priced. The food is fairly priced. Every time I have been here, the staff has always been very friendly, regardless of who was working. The bar has a pool table and video arcade games! Will definitely continue coming here.

Google
Great neighborhood bar near city park. Plenty of outdoor seating. The staff is always nice. They no longer serve food!

Google
Great neighborhood bar. I did not eat there.

Great irish bar. Solid bartenders, chill locals, good vibes.

MICK'S is my go-to neighborhood bar whenever I'm in NOLA. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and you'll miss it if you blink. If you want to feel like a local and reasonable prices, try MICK'S!

Google
Awesome bar. Pool, pinball, shuffleboard, darts, good drink prices and a dope back area with couches. Little hidden oasis.

Yelp
First Timer....Guinness on tap, The craic was humerous. We needed a good local bar and fast. After attending a UYE locally, one attendees ended up having an issue with his bill and was in a foul mood. MICK's to the rescue! I gave a 20$ bill to my friend, stated to please order me a Guinness as Katie and I went to hunt for the ladies room. We trotted up a few stairs to the back and found, a shuffle board table, arcade games as we oo'd and awww'd at the awesomeness of assortment. Ladies room was extra humorous with it's interesting convo for certain sexual preferences written in the stall.. We had a good laugh. Back at the bar, for 20$ I had bought everyone a round and a tip.....Wow! now I really love this place. Decorated with the same signage you would find in any Irish bar. A pool table, several tvs with various shows, (one had "finding Nemo" playing and one patron was def into watching it) Terrific locals bar and quite a few pool sharks streamed in and out with their sticks. I'll be going back....you can bet on it. I felt nostalgic as I sipped on my Guinness Dirty Ol' Town fainting playing in my head as I remembered my own local Irish bar, Looney's in Cali. Now long gone and dear Ray Tubbrity doing his jig in Heaven....You would have loved this place Tubb's....I tell you all about it when I see you again....

Yelp
So, this is a dive, we went in after eating the best pizza in NOLA, G's pizza. When I say a pub, I mean that the decor is ok, it's Irish pubbish if that's a word for what is considered a pub but is more like a dive bar with sorry service. Anyway, we went in, had a seat at the bar feet away from the bartender who completely ignored the two of us sitting there. They must have a ton of regulars come in because we were definitely not on the bartenders list to serve. I consider myself a local due to the fact I live a couple of streets from this dump, but I don't broadcast it because establishments like this will gouge, you're everloving eyeballs out unless they realize you're from the neighborhood. I keep it under wraps so that I'm able to call them out if I see wrongdoing. So, we sat for probably ten minutes waiting for the guy behind the bar to at least acknowledge the fact we were sitting at the bar, like hey, how ya'll doing? Gimme a min and I'll get right to ya, something, anything, I just wanted a drink, a simple hello would suffice but no, nothing, nada, so we left and went to the bulldog pub. The bulldog pub had great service, they even spoke to us when we walked through the door, wow what a concept. I highly recommend G's pizza and the bulldog pub; I would avoid Mick's like the plague! Yelp needs to remove the requirement to leave a star in order to post, just saying.

Yelp
Corner pub that is what it is but the bartenders have an attitude. I'd rather go down the street to second line.

Yelp
This has been a neighborhood pub from way back. Nothing fancy, always laid back, always a lot of fun.

Yelp
I've been coming here for some years now and I'll always be a patron. Staff is cool. This is a dive bar so act accordingly. Drinks are cheap and they have a nice variety. Good beers with a great selection that often changes. They have a pool table, darts, arcade games and shuffleboard for those who like games. They also have a jukebox for music. I'm a fan and always will be.

Yelp
Love it here. Gotta come back more often. Great bartenders, generous pours and chill crowd.

Yelp
Loving the addition of Rum and Lash in the kitchen. Great place for a cheap beer, maybe darts or shuffleboard. Not too dive-y, not too 'sports bar'. Just right for an Irish corner bar. The back room could use a little love, but not bad!
google avatar

Yelp
3 mozzarella cheese sticks for $8 -- and attitude from the bartender? Yeah; not super impressed.

Yelp
Our bars are not the same as bars in most other cities. Our bars have character and have characters. This is one of those such bars. Mick's is a great neighborhood bar full of locals that will make your time here very enjoyable. This is a kick-ass bar that loves their customers enough to serve free food four days a week! I also love that they have a ping-pong table and arcade games. The jukebox is one of the better ones too. The only reason I'm not giving this bar 5 stars is because it is sometimes too much for me if lots of people lighting up here.

Yelp
Mick's is a fun little Mid City watering hole with a few perks. Product: It's a bar, so alcoholic drinks (duh). Prices are fair and not too steep. They have a decent beer selection. (3 stars) Service: Bartender. Nothing I ever noted about them has been exceptional, good or bad. (3 stars) Facilities: A rather aged corner bar on Bienville. It is easily accessible to the students at Delgado nearby, or, more commonly, the neighbors. I read dive bar in the tags, and I guess that fits, but it's more a neighborhood bar. The place looks smaller than it actually is, because the main bar looks like it would be the entirety of the establishment, but there is a short hall that leads to a much bigger back room filled with arcade games, shuffleboard, pool tables, and a bunch of well-worn sofas that are quite comfy. The only downside to the back room is the lack of another bar back there. Bathrooms are ok, parking is on the street, and I don't remember any bike racks there. (3 stars) Overall: A decent bar to hit up in Mid City. Worth checking out if you're in the area, or a good alternative to when Finn McCool's is packed to the gills, as is oft the situation. (3 stars)

Yelp
Never been to a place where I buy a shot and I get half of a shot glass. Just because certain people are there, I shouldn't be treated differently.

Yelp
This is the kind of place where you go and say, "Boy! If I lived in the area, I'd come here every day!" I've been here a couple times, during the DAY during pub crawls and it's one of my favorite spots to stop. On St Patrick's day most recently, they opened early and there weren't any people there yet, so we had the place to ourselves. The bartenders were nice and easy going and didn't give me any crap about filling up my tankard. That's always a plus. What's more of a plus is when they know HOW to fill up a tankard; which they did. They had a few tables outside which were enjoyable as we started out the crawl and watched the clouds clear. This place has a front and back. The front of the bar is a nice large bar with decent seating and a few table and chairs. There's also a pool table. The back of the bar has a few arcade games and pinball machines which are just.... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING when you've got a few pints of ale in you. They have a few sofas back there, a few dart boards and a ..... shuffleboard table (? i think that's what you call it). It's a completely different feel from the front of the house, but cozy and welcoming, nonetheless. Their tap selection was decent for a pub and their prices fair. Like I said, this is one of those places where I'd be hanging out quite a bit if I didn't live across the lake. You'll like it. I'm not sure how this place changes with the night crowd, but I'll be finding out one day because it's worth it.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bar! It's quite difficult in my findings to land myself in an Irish Pub that I do not like. Seriously, it seems like there's this spirit that lies within a good Irish joint that makes them all pretty special in their own way, and Mick's is no exception. All of the bartenders are awesome, and drinks are hella cheap, much like every other Irish pub in the city. Perhaps that's why I am so fond of them. Mick's sports a surprising amount of games effeciently located about the bar that does not interrupt the flow of the place at all. There's arcades, pinball, a pool table, shuffle board, darts, and there use to be a ping pong table but it wasn't there the last time I was in. One of the things I love most about Mick's is their lounging accomodations. I'm a huge fan of big, plushy, comfy couches in bars. There's also always free sandwiches. Last time I was in, there were cupcakes. I've never been to Mick's where there was not something free to grub on sitting on the table up front. They really look out for the patrons here. Holler at my girl Liz if you catch her working, she's awesome. Great place for great times, cheers!

Yelp
Man! I hadn't been to Mick's since before the storm but I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in the other night with some friends. They have updated the place and it looks a little different, but it's still got that Mick's vibe and feel. Drinks are still dirt cheap and the bar is still full of locals, most living in Mid-City, myself included. Most were chain-smokers though, so a few of us were forced to flee several times through the night to go outside to gasp for some air. Love the comfy couches and the arcade they still have. Brought back a lot of fond memories. Point off for their cleanliness factor. Floors were sticky (not Nick's sticky for any old New Orleanians) and bathroom left much to be desired. Have no idea why the women's bathroom was propped open the entire time. And of course, one of the stalls had a broken latch. There was nothing that looked dirty; it was more the general feeling of the place. Definitely a place where you don't want to touch anything that's not yourself. Including the frosty yet slightly dusty beer. Place is dog-friendly. People were there with their dogs- although I'm not sure how much you've decreased the poor animals' lives by submitting them to all that 2nd hand smoke. I've seen less smoke coming out of the refineries by the Spillway.

Yelp
I like Mick's it's a cool place to hangout with friends and chat on the couches or play a few arcade games FOR CHEAP. It's not like the old Mick's pre Katrina (it's a bit updated now) but it still has that Mid City joint vibe. We actually went there the day it re-opened after Katrina and the laquer smell was still fresh in the air. I also agree that it's better than Fins and is always by "go to" place after a long St. Patrick's Day on magazine. Somehow we always wind up here. Overall I think Mick's is a cool place to hang.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Mick's is okay, I guess... The only reason I ever went there was to play ping pong, but over time the table became progressively less play-able thanks to drunken antics slowly destroying it. At one point I attempted to put up a net using beer bottles, but even if I'd been able to make that work, there was a huge corner missing from one side of the table. So sad, because we used to spend hours on end at Mick's playing ping-pong, drinking, chilling on the couches. Now, I can't really think of a good reason to go. However, if the ping pong table situation has been addressed, that's a whole 'nother story, people. So if you have any information, please let me know!

Yelp
Mick's is one of the best neighborhood bars in the city. What's not to like? Free pool, free poker, free darts, free ping pong, 25 cent video arcade games and pin ball (pinball!!), along with cheap drinks and a superfriendly staff. My friends and I have been going to mick's since we all moved to the neighborhood a few years back. We often celebrate our birthdays there, bringing with us cakes, cupcakes, and all the decorations and always have a great time. Those birthday nights I'm often very happy I live directly down the street and can just stumble on home. Irene often does a number on us, a wonderful number, but the older I get the loinger recovery takes. Be nice in this irish pub all of the other owners of irish pubs come to after they close down. You very well could be there til the sun comes up and it's always better to leave on good terms and know you're welcome back. I love the different types of people from the old bar stoolers, game watchers, chefs and wait staff, cops, hipster college students, alt crowds, and bikers.... everyone is just there to have a good time and hang out. If you're looking for a fight, a raucaus live show, or a club .... go away. This is a great place to just chill and have a good night. Don't ruin it for the rest of us. And tip the bartenders.... they are.... afterall... your best friend.

Yelp
First of all, Mick's is about as Irish as Dim Sum. It's a neighborhood bar, about as neighborhood bar- bar could get. I mean you can't find this place unless you know exactly where it is. Which happens to be 6 blocks from home. Mick's is the exact bar Frank Ricard( you know, Will Farrell's character in Old School) would open up. In fact, Old School producers probably based a good portion of their movie here. Mick's has a lay out of a frat house bar room. A front room that is the bar and pool table, the back room that is the couches, darts and ping pong table. They have several video games, not the least of which being Fish Tales pinball ( how long did I spend on that game in uni?), and a combo machine that has Dig Dug, Galaga, Pac men and Burger Time!!!! These frat house necessities will cost you all of ¢25. Now we are a frat house and as college kids we don't have any money really. So lets charge $2-$4 for beer and $3.50 for well drinks. And lets make sure pretty much any shot is not over a fiver. Also, lets make sure we stay open for, for, for well Hell do we have to close? So these are things I like, nay, love about this frat bar. Unfortunately, as frats go, cleaning is not really in their lexicon. It has a serious tactile ick factor. The bar maids are well, they get you your drinks, lets just leave it at that. The patrons, er um, well you know, they like to drink and stuff. The juke box is ok, but it has too much cringe worthy frat rock that I just can not endorse. In closing, I would simply like to say; " PAAANNNTTTYYYYYY RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIDDDDD".

Yelp
A non mp3 jukebox? Score! A room for table/board games? Score! 3 pinball machines? yeah, but only one seems to be kept up and playable. Id love to see some working, possibly newer pinball at this place. Stern pinball makes quite a few awesome tables. Just sayin'..... Anyway, bartenders are always attentive and polite. No douchers in the house either.

Yelp
I have been here 4 times. All 4 times I got totally obliterated. There is something about this place, that clicks just right, drinks come quick enough and so conducive to conversation, that its so easy to get carried away. And apparently I get carried away alot here. I think its the bartenders too. All super cool to me. They have a decent menu , by the looks of the burger a friend got once, looked very tasty. I haven't had anything to eat here yet but I am sure I will eventually. BTW, you pay for the food separate from your drink tab at the time you receive the food. There is a bunch of things to do in here also besides drink. Pool, darts, cards, curling, pinball, driving and regular retro video games. And the typical counter top Maxx games. There is a cool jukebox with a nice selection. Its an easy place to get too. Parking can kinda suck because the area is not well lit at night, so lone ladies should have someone meet them outside. Its a dog friendly bar too. I seen the free food people have mentioned before, I haven't partaken in any of it. Great place to bring a date, the cocktails are also very very stiff and the prices are more than reasonable. Can get a lil smokey but its a bar so I deal with it. Love this place
google avatar

Lacey G.

Yelp
Great place to hang with a group. The back room is a fun spot with shuffleboard, darts, and 2x4 Jenga. Comfy couches round out the area for a very laid-back vibe. Last time we visited the taps we're having issues, which was a shame as they had some great looking brews available, including a Second Line Brewing option I wanted to try.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Love This Place! Josh is by far the best bartender to deal with here. Never have any issues and always get my drinks served right!

Yelp
This a true neighborhood dive bar. Sometimes I think it's the last REAL bar in the U.S. I was born and raised in New Orleans but lived in other cities for brief periods of time and there is no other place like Mick's. In other cities there are huge subdivisions separated by highways or large undeveloped plots of land where the nearest bar is in a strip mall and it's probably called Chili's Restaurant. This place is real, filled with real people of all walks of life. It wasn't thought up in a corporate HQ in Dallas or L.A. It was thrown together. Barely any of the furniture matches, the curtains are sheets and the two couches are ripped up. You go there to drink and to talk to your neighbors. It's a watering hole and a neighbor clubhouse all in one. I love this bar.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Super friendly bartender, but I came to play the pinball. The fish tales and Creature are in need of some serious maintenance. The opto on the trough VUK is dead, 3/4 of the lights are out and one speaker is really tinny. The fish tales has a dead display and is in playable. T2 seems to be working though.

Yelp
By far my favorite bar in Mid City. Far better than Finns in my opinion. It's a great, relaxed neighborhood joint with great bartenders (Irene always makes sure I have a good night. Sometimes an even better night than I was planning :) ). Hang out in the bar area where you first walk in, or journey up the few stairs into the back area with tables and couches to hang out with your friends. Either way you will have a good time at Micks. I'm very happy to live near Micks and will be terribly sad to lose it if I were to ever have to move away from Mid City.

Yelp
We hit some major traffic in I-10 on our way into Nola for my friend's bachlor party, so I pulled out my trusty Yelp app to find a nice bar to start drinking at while traffic subsided. Mick's got great reviews and was close in proximity to the highway, so we popped in. We were not disappointed! First off, they have a solid draught beer selection for what some might consider a "dive bar." Being from Chicago, we wanted to try some Abita and Nola selections; they had plenty. We also did some shots and finished our night pounding some delicious (but hangover inducing) rum punches! Drinks here are dirt cheap; probably cheaper than almost any bar I've visited in Chicago. Also, the bartenders are quick and don't dilly dally behind bar. The atmosphere here is hard to beat. It's like an arcade for adults. We chose to hang in the back room - having it all to ourselves for a good three hours until the bar got more packed. We watched Thursday Night Football on the tvs, played shuffleboard, darts, and cheap pinball! Others just chilled on the couches. The gamblers dabbled in the slots. To add to the juiciness, there is free food! And it's tasty! We were intially suspect of the ham and cheese melts, but once tasted, we realized they were delicious. Fresh French bread and perfectly melted cheese. I must have had at least six of those little babies. If you're ever in Nola, make sure to make the trek over to Mick's!

Yelp
Kelly is an awesome bartender and I love going in to have a few drinks, shoot some pool and hang with friends. It's just a nice neighborhood bar with a lot of regulars. I enjoy my $4.25 Jameson's. I get tired of banks street bar and I'm happy to go a little farther to hang out here. Nice big back room that I have had friends host cast parties there. Elbow room around the single pool table can be tight on busy nights, but workable. I'd rather pay $.50 for pool than rent by the hour.

Nic N.

Yelp
I love this bar!! Mick's is the type of bar where you go when you don't have anything else to do, but then you end up spending the whole night there. I have to admit, I'm a bit picky when it comes to beer, and they have a really good selection both on tap and in bottles. Last time I was there the bartender (Alex I think her name was?) let me sample all the local beers. Paradise Park, hello! So good. I gave four stars because it gets a little dingy in there, but I've never had a bad time!
google avatar

Elyse M.

Yelp
I have a closeted love for ping pong. I have a not so closeted love for getting a wee bit tanked and having my tab be $21. FOR TWO PEOPLE. However, the lights upstairs are just too bright. It makes me feel sneaky for drinking beers when it seems I am patronizing one of those "teen hangouts" that think a dart board will prevent the youth of their town from smoking and skateboarding. Besides that, they always seem to have a mystery array of free food by the jukebox, everyone is welcome (bros, gays, senior citizens), and the bartenders never forget your drink. And every time I've gone in there, they've all been really pretty.
google avatar

Birdie C.

Yelp
Last night Mick's supplied me with cheap, ice cold beer and awesome Karaoke! I don't wind up at Mick's too often and felt a little out of place at first since EVERYONE in the bar knew each other. I think it was Kickball night... A few beers in and my friends and I felt right at home! Mick's is your typical divey, Mid-City bar...Pool tables, darts, arcade games, etc...
google avatar

Kristen N.

Yelp
Always has been , might always be my favorite bar! From the arcade games to the lounge section you will feel at home. This was my dogs favorite bar too back when u could still bring dogs into bars in Nola

Daisy R.

Yelp
Kellie always knows how to handle her shit, as well as the shit being handed to her by the wasted local kickball crowd: she's efficient, quick, and personable. She inherently knows when to "not hear" things being said (sometimes shouted by drunk people!) and always manages to hand you your next drink with a wry yet loving smile. She's smart, funny, extremly personable, and remembers what you drink: you just look at her to signal that you need another, and she remembers what you ordered, like hours ago, makes sure that same drink is what you still want, then brings it to you... She also manages to know how to very politely cut you off, if you need it. (Seen it happen, had it happen, lol!) Despite living in far-away uptown, Kellie is the reason I take Ubers to midcity when I need a drank. If only there could be a Kellie in all the places where I travel....
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
This is probably the most dive of dive bars in Mid-City. I might even go so far as to say that if Snake 'n Jake's and Ms. Mae's had a baby then this was it and they abandoned it and kicked it out to live in Mid-City. The biggest claim to fame of this place is the sheer dirt cheap prices of their drinks. I think I would be completely accurate in saying these are the cheapest drink prices you will find anywhere in Mid-City. The clientele in here seems to generally be intent on getting as completely wasted as possible so that has its good and less good points. They have a really cool back area with all sorts of video games and other entertainment along with a lounge couch area that could be somebody's living room. I'm also a big fan of the fact that they serve their draft in full Imperial pints making it an even better value. This place seems to ALWAYS have people in it but I've rarely seen it really crowded. This is definitely a place to experience just for the sheer entertainment of the wasted drunk characters imbibing in this place and the cheap drinks just add to the value of the fun.
google avatar

Alice E.

Yelp
A very smokey neighborhood bar.... with great pinball machines. Cheap drinks and no frills. Fun for afternoon drinking.

Josh W.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood bar with really cheap drinks. I think doubles are like $4 or somewhere around there. Great place to go to hang out, drink and talk with friends. p.s.: There's a courtyard in the back. The owner doesn't have it furnished or lit, so you can't really do much back there, but it is accessible through the door in the back room. Try it next time you're there .

Yelp
I love this place.Great neighborhood feel ,great bartenders, reasonable drink prices.People here are so friendly .

Yelp
Great dive bar. Pretty nice bartenders. Hipsters mind their own business without looking over their black rimmed non prescriptive eye glasses wondering why non hipsters are there.
google avatar

Ted J.

Yelp
This is a cool dive bar and also has some pinball and arcade games in it. The drinks were fairly inexpensive and the patrons and staff were good as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Cheap drinks, jukebox has Prince and Michael Jackson (YES!), cool bartenders and some interesting folks who hang out there. Plus it's a short distance from where I live. What more could one want?
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
I will give Micks 5 stars because this is my fav neighborhood bar and I really have not had a bad experience with this place. The drinks are cheap. I love pinball!!! And the crowd is mid-city-rific. I generally like the music they play too. Parking is never really an issue andi can hear myself talking in there.
google avatar

Joshua C.

Yelp
Local bar with pool, ping pong, pinball, & arcade games - drinks nor cheap nor expensive. Great if you live in the neighborhood. Also, you'll find all types of characters there. Also, the ping pong table has been fixed thanx to a local ping pong aficionado.

Yelp
The only bar in New orleans you need. I found this place in 2014 and it's been heaven sense. The bartenders are all awesome and drink prices are fantastic and made with care. Mike sobol the cheery bartender is always fun to talk to and cooks damn good food that's on the house to all customers. If your in nola this is a must see spit for great drinks great crowds and the true culture of new orleans.

Yelp
I love Micks! Cheap drinks and a really good vibe.

Yelp
Typical NOLA neighborhood bar. If you live in the hood I lived in this hood I'm sure I'd be here all of the time. The bartender was good although I'm used to a little more Genius with my Irish Car Bombs, but that's a personal thing. Again, typical NOLA neighborhood bar.

My favorite Mid-City bar! Super cheap (and strong) drinks, good jukebox selection, great bartenders, and a rowdy, fun-loving crowd!
