Google
This intimate unassuming "kitchen" right by our hotel while visiting was exactly what I was looking for for a lazy brunch. The most surprising dish is the shashuka in the eggs section of the meal-try it. And call me odd, but the grilled cheese with scrambled egg sandwich was just the most satisfying. Moreover, their toaste is infused with mouth watering butter--yum! Also, the service was definitely friendly and attentive.

Google
Its a nice place to meet and spend time with friends. The food is ok. They have a huge menu online but when we got there the ones we wanted to order are not available so we just ordered whatever is available at that time.

Google
I recently visited a fantastic brunch spot, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. The food was absolutely delicious, offering a perfect start to the day. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent service throughout my visit. The restaurant’s location was ideal, especially on such a beautiful day, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great brunch.

Google
We went to this restaurant because I have celiac and were looking for a place that offered some nutritious gluten-free options . This place looked liked it fit the bill. I ordered the salmon toast. Sadly for the price paid, the quantity was not what we expected. All I received was a single slice of gluten free toast on a bed of mixed greens topped with creamed cheese, cucumber, and a few slices of lox. I left the restaurant hungry .

Google
Very nice breakfast and lunch restaurant. Quaint, small atmosphere. Service was very nice. Food was excellent and presentation of food was also very nice.

Google
Love this place. Nice vibe, not crowded. Delicious food. I got the avocado toast with tofu and gf toast and an iced matcha latte with oat milk. Everything was excellent! My boyfriend got the breakfast wrap and loved it. Highly recommend this place!

Google
Ordered food delivery from here. Item description for the Tofu scramble was incorrect and came with none of what is described. That would have been ok if the scramble tasted good but it was so plain and unflavorful that it was truly a disappointment. I’m pretty sure salt wasn’t even added… The waffle was pretty plain and uninteresting too. Overall would not order from here again.

Google
We have been ordering from here at lunch for work. Such a delightful find!! Food is fantastic, fresh, and plentiful. We have tried many of the menu options and have never been disappointed, only delighted! Regretfully we tear into food so quickly, most often we forget to take pictures. Included with this review are pictures of Avocado Bennys, Golden Bowl, and a side of bacon. If you are considering this place go ahead and order, you will not be disappointed! Update: Still fantastic. Customer service is aces!!! Adding pictures of Avocado fries and Buffalo Cauliflower, both delicious!

Yelp
I was having a bad week, but needed to find some food while traveling. The cafe is super cute, and the service and food were amazing. (I had the Turkish eggs--the yogurt was so filling and yummy). I felt very taken care of and it brought me some relief on a quite stressful morning.

Selena d.

Yelp
generally a nice experience. food was just a tab bland but no other problems. sizable portions. the avocado fries were good. service was great.

Melissa D.

Yelp
My entire family loved mid kitchen!! We loved the smoothies, waffles, shakshouka, avocado toast. The brussel sprouts and french fries were amazing too! The gluten free options were great too!! We can't wait to come back.

Iris P.

Yelp
This was a great Turkish cuisine experience! When you check this place out try their traditional Shaksuka! It's wonderful! Also pictured was their green superfood omelet and their steak and eggs they have Turkish coffee as well as regular coffee and you have the choice of non-dairy creamers You could visit this restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner they have so much to choose from! The service was super sweet and the ambiance is beautiful inside and out and of course we sat on the patio because why not?!:))

Jen S.

Yelp
Very broad selection of vegan options here, considering it's not an exclusively vegan restaurant. The vegan waffle is delicious, with or without syrup. I'm also looking forward to trying their vegan BLT, vegan club and buffalo cauliflower at some point. The one area where I think there's room for improvement is their tofu. I tried the breakfast wrap with tofu once and the tofu was very lightly cooked. Extra-firm tofu well-cooked would be much better; as it was, the soft, plain tofu lent a slightly soggy texture to the wrap. Overall, however, this restaurant is a welcome addition to the area. Hope it lasts.

Trevor P.

Yelp
Cool vibe and great food. Definitely suggest trying this place out. I got an omelette with feta, ham, spinach, mushrooms, and avocado. It was dynamite. And the service was terrific!

Tim R.

Yelp
Great sidewalk patio opportunity, although not the most comfortable chairs. We went for brunch on a lovely day. My wife had the Brussels sprouts salad that was exceedingly plain. I had the chicken satay wrap which was nicely seasoned.

Lauren F.

Yelp
We have been coming here at least once a week for over a year. The service is always amazing, food is delicious, and the coffee is great. The staff are kind and always do their best to keep us happy. The owner and his wife are present and always ask how things are going. Overall, the place is awesome!!!

Megan F.

Yelp
Went here for brunch with mom and the place was packed! We got lucky that there was a table for two. We ordered the Avocado Benedict, Steak & Eggs, and the Cabbage Cucumber Tofu Salad. Would not recommend the Steak & Eggs for the amount and price and the Benedict was a bit hard to cut into, but other then that the food was good, especially the salad! Our server was really nice as well and checked up on customers frequently with plenty of coffee refills.

Alexis R.

Yelp
Was very pleasantly surprised to find the Turkish inspired food on their menu for breakfast. It's a cute little cafe with very sweet employees. I also appreciated how calm their atmosphere is, allowing for conversation without there being a rush.

Chloe H.

Yelp
I order delivery from here often and I've been happy with everything except the Brussels sprouts salad. That dressing needs some work!

Elgin B.

Yelp
Sometimes you just need a place to talk. I didn't think much of the Mid when I first arrive to the space. I was looking for a nice spot to get coffee and maybe a meal while my friend and I caught up. I was greeted by very welcoming, colorful staff with great personalities. The interior was nice and comfortable. I wasn't even sure if I was going to eat food because the goal of the day was to make sure that my friend was comfortable. She very much enjoyed her meal. I tried her tea and it was delightful. After the conversation I was a bit hungry so I got the chicken and waffles with a coffee and it was good. Nothing to ride home about but good. I personally like chicken wings with waffles but the chicken breast was cooked well and the meal was decent. The mid is a perfect place for what I was personally looking for, a space to have a conversation over a light meal and it her much accomplished that. I would definitely recommend. The food was decent and reasonably priced. Not a bad choice for brunch with a friend. 3 of 5

Dave Z.

Yelp
These pancakes. How do they let this out the door? Burnt cookies not too bad. Burnt pancakes, ugh. Their sausage was burnt but not too bad. Potatoes were crisp and delicious. To the Mid: This is the color of burntness.

Ursula C.

Yelp
The service was great, and also was the food. The highlight was definitely the croffles , which were so delicious! I recommend it, definitely will come back.

Diana C.

Yelp
The food, service, and atmosphere at The Mid makes it our weekend brunch spot. The menu accommodates all types of eaters vegan to omni, even gluten-free

Vlada S.

Yelp
Really disappointed with food and service. Not worth single penny! Ordered Brussels sprouts salad 14 $ Got huge bowl of dry chopped Brussels sprouts not possible to eat dressing some sort of simple oil and 5 cranberries. Server never came to check on food. Call them to talk about the issue. Chef came out ( don't even think he is the manager) said he will give me 4$ discount for a plate I haven't touched!!! Problem was clearly explained but no action was taking from the management. Try to provide better customer service next time, not sending chef out there to try solving problems. It's not his responsibility!

Prachi J.

Yelp
As vegetarians, we liked this place a lot! The portions were a bit smaller, but the food was delicious! We tried the croffle and shakshouka. Both were super flavorful and tasty. The inside of the restaurant is also very cute and a great spot for meeting friends

Wes S.

Yelp
Heh I saw Shokshuka on the menu which I don't see very often, and they did a real bang up job bringing it in a metal pan that was very hot, but the egg was nice and still liquid yolk, and aspicy sauce. more than I could even eat the coffee is the kind that they keep pouring in your cup refills so then I decided I had to have a cookie, and which they served It warmed up very nice! Friendly, and the owner out helping the server keeping customers happy

Alina S.

Yelp
Worse experience ever. Would rate 0 stars if I could ! Dry, bland food. Unprofessional rude employees and management! Reed reviews first before considering this place.

Michelle T.

Yelp
We ate here once before and though the food was not anything special, I was pleased there seemed to be an effort to include vegan options (cannot speak to non-vegan items; they seemed to look great). Service was excellent. Unfortunately, today we tried to grab a bite, but had to leave before ordering. The server, who seemed impatient as we tried to find a seat out of the sun, sprayed sanitizing spray right in front of me and the wind helped ensure my face got covered. Not the directions on the bottle of spray, I'm sure, and definitely not the brunch I was expecting.

Joe S.

Yelp
Truly disappointed. Menu looked phenomenal, although pricy. Small space and full, but wait wasn't too bad. For $20-25 per person, you'd think the food could have some sort of quality. Attached an image of what this place thinks qualifies as a poached egg. Not sure how that dining room can be filled with performances like this. If you're looking for breakfast, go around the corner to Cupitol.

S N.

Yelp
The food is good but service is really inattentive. Like wait 10 minutes to get a menu then 10+ to be asked for a drink order, and don't get me started on how long the food takes. I'd be unlikely to go back because of that.

Em C.

Yelp
Great brunch/lunch spot with a balanced menu of sweet & savory dishes. Waitstaff was knowledgeable and provided us with recommendations based on our hunger level. French toast - great texture and flavor. Not overwhelmingly covered in syrup like some places. Fresh fruit atop. Plenty to split between 2. Buddha bowl - lots of great flavors and different consistencies. Fresh falafel over a bed or carrots, beets (which i normally don't LOVE but in this dish I didn't mine), kale and cous cous. A great, hearty dish that masks the fact it's actually healthy! It doesn't look large in photos but be sure to come hungry if you're planning on getting this. Chicken club - pretty tasty, we loved the bread. Doesn't taste that similar to a traditional club but still a great dish that we would get again.

Frank T.

Yelp
5 of us walked in for Saturday breakfast. We waited for 10 minutes and got seated. The server was great. Sassy and attentive. We ordered right away. I had the standard which included 2 eggs 2 huge sausage patties potatoes and oMG wonderful sour dough toast. We all loved our orders. I will definitely return

Joanne L.

Yelp
Great experience having brunch here. Casual atmosphere, delicious food. And my friend and I had lots to talk about and the staff let us chat without any pressure to leave the table - so appreciated! I'll be back!

Zoe H.

Yelp
The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere and great design which gave an ambiance that made you feel relaxed and enjoy your food in peace. The servers helped you whenever you call for them and speedily serve. My particular favorite that we ordered was the Squid Ink Mafaldine. The food is delicious and the service is good. A wide selection of pastries and international breakfast favorites. Amazing service and atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Wendy G.

Yelp
Food was just okay. I had the avocado toast and my toast was very hard. We both had an ice tea and it was $4.50 a glass. I'm talking just plain ice tea! Service was not good at all and there was hardly anyone there. It took a while for the food, which I understand, but it took a long time just to get our tea. The server never came back to refill our expensive tea and they never asked about the food. It's a quaint place and food was okay but Don't order ice tea and plan on being there a while.

Pelin K.

Yelp
Everything is so delicious. I highly recommend this place. We ordered Turkish egg and avocado toast.

Beth K.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cafe and we were so glad we did! The tofu satay wrap was delicious and the potatoes were done perfectly with a crispy outside and a soft inside. The waiter was attentive when refilling our coffees and water. I highly recommend if you are looking for a cozy spot with excellent food.

Jim L.

Yelp
This is a nice little spot for brunch. We sat outside. Not a lot of seating Attentive friendly service. Water glasses filled. Utensils Good menu options. Vegan. Vegetarian. Mediterranean. Bowls. And standard breakfast fare. The avacado fries were really good to start. A sriracha dipping sauce. Good combo. Chicken and waffles. Excellent. Nice Benedict and Omelets. They serve mimosas. Beer. Coffee options. Will be back.

Tracy R.

Yelp
The food at Mid Kitchen is fantastic! The menu offers something for everyone- gluten free and vegan options available. The staff is always friendly and courteous!

Stella W.

Yelp
Ever since the yelp event, I have been wanting to take my family here! Covid made it a tad difficult, but I am glad we got to come for brunch today! Everything was delightful! The crab cake my hubby had was excellent! I didn't taste any breading at all! All seemed to be real crab meat :D The green shakshuka I had was a nice twist of the traditional one, which is always my go to if I see it on menu :) I def overate since we also ordered sides and fry bread for my daughter, and I ended up cleaning her plate

Monica D.

Yelp
As always, this spot hits it out of the park. It just reopened this past week, and the flavors and hospitality are better than I remember. Shout out to the owners for the keeping this vegan friendly spot open, and to Grace our server for the top notch service!

Yessica M.

Yelp
Went with friends first time, and wont go again. Avocado toast was hard boiled egg toast not even toasted . I go to the restaurant to have some nice meal not to get sliced avocado, bread and wrong cooked eggs !! They should look what they letting out from the kitchen.

Martina M.

Yelp
I' ve been there for lunch, food is cold and it seems like it was sitting there forever. Paid 15 $ for chopped lettuce nothing else !!! really frustrating experience! Bad food ! and server never check on you .

Nur N.

Yelp
Do not recommend this place. Food is low quality, you can find better place. Overpriced! Zero customer service.

Vera M.

Yelp
the food is awesome! get the breakfast wrap it is soooo good. The service is also great!

Katie M.

Yelp
I've dined here twice: once with my fiancé and a friend and the second time with a group of 8 people. The restaurant is relatively small, so expect to wait, and there isn't really a place to stand to wait, so you'll probably be outside, but it's worth the hassle! The restaurant is clean, bright, and the owners and waitstaff are extremely friendly and tentative. This last time (group of 8), we lucked out and managed to be seated immediately. They seemed a bit overwhelmed in the kitchen when we first walked in, but the waiter that greeted us didn't seem to sweat such a large group and they were very accommodating. Everyone loved their food and I was super excited to see that they now offer mimosas and bellinis. I was a bit irked that they snuck in an automatic 20% gratuity without telling us, because I wound up tipping on top of that since I was paying cash and trying to run out for an appointment, so the waitress walked away with a 90% tip. I'm fine being charged an automatic gratuity percentage for larger groups, just don't be sneaky about it and let us know :). I love that they have a variety of vegan options on their menu and everything seems to be fresh. I've had their vegan waffles (highly recommend even if you're not veg) and their vegan BLT. Both simple, but delicious. Their sammies do NOT come with sides, so expect to pay an extra $3-5 for a side of fries/fruit/etc. but the side portions are more than enough and you'll have leftovers. I'm not in Evanston often, but Mid Kitchen is such a gem that I'm more than willing to make the 30 minute hike for a delicious Sunday brunch anytime.

Khaleelah A.

Yelp
I ordered a vegan BLT, vanilla latte and chips with guacamole. i will definitely order or sit down and eat their food. Delicious.

Bob G.

Yelp
Really terrific. Very friendly, reasonable prices and very good food. Turkish flare but all sorts of options. Many vegan choices.

Skylar S.

Yelp
I like Mid Kitchen! the restaurant is really small, but pretty good for Evanston. The chicken and waffles was a huge skip- as they just gave you a huge hunk of chicken and a soggy waffle, but everything else has been enjoyable. Especially a fan of the chocolate chip waffles, the guac, and the caprese salad! Staff is nice. Good for a casual but yummy brunch. (from @tastessky on Instagram)

Tonya T.

Yelp
Disappointing. Dirty entry doors should tell the whole picture but we decided to give it a try. I ordered food worth 70 bucks and both bowls were dry and tasteless - I ordered protein and Mexican bowls. Lots of tasteless rice, dry chicken, and beans. My child could make a better BLT sandwich than the one we ordered. Never again, overpriced, bad quality place. It was so disappointing and bad that I decided to write a review. Definitely not worth 70 bucks plus a tip.

Matt B.

Yelp
Hell yeah this is rock star place. Love it. Chicken & waffles all day. And the bowls.

Nathan D.

Yelp
Cozy | Chicken and Waffles | Johana Gaines Cozy: The restaurant is very cozy. By cozy, I mean small, well done, and homey. The restaurant cannot sit more than 40 people. But, you feel like you are in your awesome southern grandmother's living room. Chicken and Waffles: I had the chicken and waffles. IT WAS AMAZING. The best part of it is the chicken is boneless and covers the entire waffle. So, with every bite, you get both CHICKEN AND WAFFLES. Normally dishes skimp on one of the two but they give you the same amount of both. THIS IS THE FIRST time I've ever had that. As a C&W connoisseur, I really appreciated this attention to detail. Johana Gaines: They had Johana Gaines level attention to detail with their meals, displays, and visuals. The C&W was divine. The overall decor feels like Fixer Upper with the black, white, grey and wood accents. Overall the restaurant is extremely clean, family-friendly, and welcoming. Pro tip: They charge 50 cents for the maple syrup. I found this surprising given I ordered chicken and waffles. I thought that was a standard condiment, but I guess not. Pro Tip: They do a 10% Northwestern Student Discount. All-day, every day. Pro tip: Per the staff, Mid Kitchen is the name because the head chef wanted to do an all-vegan restaurant but, given the market is ready for that he/she decided to have half vegan half regular. So the kitchen is "in the middle" of the two worlds.

Katie R.

Yelp
Good food but we were there a couple of hours and not once did anyone offer to refill our waters. So just one water that whole time. They also add $2 for each additional vegetable you add, which kind of sucks that there's not more included within the egg dishes. When all was said and done, my breakfast wrap and hot tea came out to $23, not including tip. The wrap was delicious but not worth $20+, at least for me and my middle class income. Finally, it's a small place we discovered, and it was very warm / felt like poor ventilation (maybe something from just that day?). Definitely a type of place, if you choose to sit indoors and every table is full, that you feel you're at risk of catching something floating in the air :/ Not sure if I would come back, maybe a once a year type of place, and would definitely prefer outdoor seating on a cool day next time.

Linda R.

Yelp
We loved the menu, so many great choices, even as pescatarians we felt that we could go back several times without repeating a meal (a rarity at even some of our favorite spots). That being said, perhaps we had too high of hopes after reading the menu and reviews. There were 7 of us in the group and we each ordered something different. Everything tasted "good" but, unfortunately , there were few standout dishes, my opinion...my family might disagree. We were graced with an olive tapenade amuse bouchée, and it was good, again, not great. Most of the meals came out at the same time while 2 of us were left waiting for ours, not terribly long but long enough that after a while 1 in the group asked where our meals were. I think the service and how slow it is is the biggest glitch in what otherwise has great potential as a good restaurant. I believe they have a lot of kinks to work out and I do look forward to giving it another try. The actual bill has 1+ and 1-. We waited an exceedingly long time and we were never given our bill so finally I just handed the waiter (possibly the owner) my credit card. He came back with the total bill, not itemized. I really like an itemized bill so that I can double check if it's correct. I did like that it included 3 options of percentages for tips and what the total should be with the selected option. There was also space to write in your tip of your own choice (not one of the 3 aforementioned).

Karen B.

Yelp
Love everything about Mid Kitchen! The toughest part is deciding what to choose from a fresh and interesting menu. We've gone for breakfast and the Benedict options are delicious. The lunch/brunch menu looks excellent and we will be checking it out soon! The service is friendly and fast. The owners are kind...the type of small business owners you want to support and see thrive.

Leslie A.

Yelp
Visited for first time on a Sunday at noon and luckily I called earlier in the week to make a reservation. This place is tiny and packed! Street parking is limited esp on a Sunday bc it's free. Free parking in downtown Evanston is a rarity. This place is tiny and you might miss their front door so look for it! The service was extremely kind helpful and explained a lot to us. This place is not pretentious and the customers at the time were very diverse like their staff. The menu will wow you with the variety of choices and ability to customize. Decor is a bit unique and eclectic while trying to remain rustic. Food was delish and everyone in my group cleaned their plates. Portions are not big but fair and it is a little pricey but understands for their location. I would def come back!

Lucas A.

Yelp
I've walked by Mid Kitchen countless times and always thought the food looked appetizing and delicious, so I talked my family into trying it out for brunch. (It's a hard crowd who is comfortable in routine). This restaurant definitely has a few things going for it besides the aesthetically pleasing plates. Cozy atmosphere, interesting and unique menu, comfortable seating, to name some things that immediately struck me. Also taking reservations for parties of 6 or more is awesome. I get the feeling that this spot just lacks consistency. When it's good, it's probably very good and when it's not, it's squarely sub mediocre. Started off with Buffalo cauliflower and seasoned fries. Seasoned fries were tasty, cauliflower, on the other hand was just over-seasoned. Too salty, and too much vinegar in the Buffalo sauce. We don't usually get apps for brunch because it's already a lot of food typically, but we were feeling adventurous. On the main course our food was pushing room temp and just overall disappointing. We ordered crab cakes Benedict that were just a bit too off-tasting. Pancakes were in no way classic buttermilk. Much too dense, not fluffy or buttery and oddly dark. The 2 Standard breakfasts we ordered would have been better if they were hot and the eggs cooked how we wanted. Cold toast is also a bummer. Home fries were cold-ish over-fried and dry. I know breakfast/brunch on the weekend is a busy and challenging time for a restaurant but I felt like the service really fell short in relation to how not busy it was when were there. It seemed the server knew she was getting an included 20% gratuity because we were 6 people (totally aware that this has been standard practice for ages) so she didn't bother trying. We had to ask for far too many things that should be automatic to the point that our server was clearly annoyed and just kind of dropped them on the table. One pat of butter for an entire table, one container of creamer for coffee are things that stick out. Like I said, seems to me this place has a good even great days based on reviews. Unfortunately our visit was not one of them.
