7 Exciting Boston-Area Restaurants Opening in Spring 2021 | Eater Boston

"Chef and owner Douglass Williams has been operating Mida, his beloved South End Italian restaurant, since 2016. Now, he’s expanding the business to Newton: Williams plans to open a second Mida outpost in June. It’s difficult (impossible?) to find better house-made pasta in Greater Boston, and Mida’s arancini is one of the best bites in the city. Put simply, Newton is getting an absolute gem. And for the uninitiated, Mida’s “Mangia Monday” is one of the best deals around: Two diners can sample five pasta dishes, salad, and bread for $70. It’s like the Olive Garden, but actually good. (Keep an eye out for Apizza, the forthcoming New Haven-style pizzeria Williams is opening inside Hub Hall.)" - Terrence Doyle

We were able to sample numerous pastas and salad through the “Mangia Monday” deal. Among the dishes we tried were the bucatini All’amatriciana, paccheri bolognese, house salad, another mushroom pasta, and the pepperoni pizza. The pasta dishes were fine but honestly nothing special unfortunately. We really liked the salad though and our waiter was great!

Overall a nice trendy Italian restaurant with a good selection of bites! My partner and I shared three dishes and found that the star of the evening was the pistachio pesto burrata! We also had the mussels which were nice and sweet - the sauce it came with was a nice change of pace from your average red/white wine mussels. Also, the bread service was super fluffy and warm - really liked it! Unfortunately, the mushroom pasta dish was not to our liking just due to how oily the sauce was. It left an overall greasy mouthfeel and I felt that the mushroom flavour was only very obvious if you managed to grab a mushroom with your bite of pasta! Didn’t have room for dessert but the selection looked nice too.

MIDA is a celebrated Italian neighborhood restaurant in Newton, Massachusetts. Founded by acclaimed chef Douglass Williams, MIDA Newton offers a warm, modern ambiance that blends urban sophistication with cozy charm, making it ideal for everything from casual dinners. The menu at MIDA Newton showcases a variety of Italian dishes crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Pizza was great, pasta as well. Service is fast and friendly. Our early dinner was a highlight of the day.

Was looking for a good Italian place in the Boston area, and the Google reviews led me here. We were easily seated around 4:30PM, although they do recommend reservations. Everything was delicious - the complimentary bread service, the arancini, and the star of the meal, the smoked short rib lasagna. Almost a year later and we’re still talking about that dish!

I was so excited to go here for my birthday and try the dine out dinner special menu. However, the food was just alright. I didn’t enjoy the risotto, as I didn’t taste the squash and instead mostly just the flavor akin to store bought Mac and cheese. The nuts were also really unnecessary and off putting. I would’ve preferred a different topping. The pizza was undercooked on the bottom. Also, the pizza stand was there for about 20 minutes covering a whole quarter of the table which made it hard to eat. I don’t think the food was worth the price. The dessert also took around 20 minutes to arrive(just for a small scoop of gelato) and was also not worth the price as well. Adding on to that, it wasn’t the consistency of gelato, more like slush. I will not be coming back in the future but I hope they improve.

Google
If you're looking for incredible Italian food and outstanding service, look no further than MIDA. The pizza was a masterpiece, and the tiramisu was heavenly—light, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Our server went above and beyond, adding a personal touch that made the evening so special. Celebrating a birthday here was a fantastic choice; the atmosphere and hospitality made it unforgettable. Can’t wait to come back!

I decided to try this place out during my Boston trip and I have zero regrets. I recommend making reservations because I came on a Friday at 12:30pm and it was surprisingly busy and understaffed. There was one server, bartender and host but they were working like a dream team despite that! You can tell they are well trained. The host was cleaning up after customers in between answering phones, the bartender was working his station and helping to bring out food for the server, so the server was able to tend all tables. It was incredible to see their team work. I ordered a Shirley temple and it was the best I’ve ever had in my life. I’m sure their homemade grenadine was what did it for me! I got the mushroom pappardelle which was delicious. The house pasta really makes a difference. My wife got the chicken parm sandwich which is always A winner. We also shared the Sicilian mussels with our entrees and dipping sauce was incredible. 10/10 recommend. Prices are fair for quality too.

From the cocktails to the dessert, food was great. Jean was hospitable, recommended dishes and our drinks, super friendly and efficient, well versed in the menu!! It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary! Thank you.

Yelp
We tried Mida for Sunday brunch - it was lovely. Fast service with good recommendations, amazing lemon pancakes, and surprisingly good iced lattes. It's right next to busy streets, so noisy, but the dedicated outdoor seating is a nice perk.

Yelp
I finally had the opportunity to try this restaurant. I've been hearing for the longest time how awesome it is. I got the chicken cutlet with no cheese and extra gravy. It was not the best sandwich I ever had nor the worst. It wasn't overly expensive, but I'm just really confused with the hype. Maybe 4 ounces of chicken breast and it did have sauce when it came but literally so dry. It was hard to eat and then I had to wait forever to get extra sauce. which was Pompidou sauce and not marinara and then a little side salad. Which was nice, but the croutons were like sand, and I felt like sand in my mouth so I wasn't really a fan. But what stole the show was our waitress super super nice, friendly & awesome listening skills. My friend got the mushroom pasta which looked divine. It seems like a really great place to have drinks, and if you need a little nosh, I would consider this an enhanced bar menu. However, for a main meal, I believe you shouldn't leave that table hungry from Italian food. That's just me.

Yelp
Gave Mida another chance and had a really wonderful experience at the bar. The service was great and everything that came out of the kitchen was absolutely delicious. My friend and I split a few things and probably had 5 different cheeses before the night was over. I had such a great time I decided to book my birthday dinner here. I came in last night for my birthday and Julian truly made it special. His hospitality was so wonderful it led me to update my review. Again all the food was really great. The focaccia is an absolute must. I will get it every time. All their pasta dishes are perfection. I love their arancini. Honestly everything is fresh and delicious and really a great value. Cocktails are also fun an innovative. I like the hint of coconut in their espresso martini. Looking forward to going back soon!

Yelp
First time for dinner at the Newton location. The ambiance was hip and decor was modern. The service was personal as Jeanie took very good care of us as she guided us through the menu and wine list. Food was excellent, you can sense that so much detail had gone to the preparation. Felt like my wife and I were back eating dinner in Italy. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I've been to their South End location and had a great experience there, so I was excited to try brunch this time around at their Newton location. Parking is definitely much easier around here, and there's even a free lot in the back. This location is also much more spacious, but with the same trendy vibes and decor as their Boston spot. The food was delicious! I enjoyed the Mida Slam, which came with scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes, and pancakes. I like a little bit of everything! I was able to substitute the pancakes for the French toast and I'm so glad I did because the French Toast was absolutely delicious! Crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside!! So flavorful too. Bacon was nice and crispy, and the eggs, potatoes, and bread, you really can't go wrong with. It was a very hearty breakfast and I was super full at the end of it! Would highly recommend the brunch here, and especially checking out this Newton location!

Yelp
Here's the bottom line: the place is nice, just a bit loud. That was fine this evening as on the other side of the restaurant sat yuppie parents who allowed their brats to scream and yell. My friends and I had the rice balls for apps and they were great. There are many many employees all running back and forth. We were seated about 7:10 PM. I ordered pizza and was informed that it might come out before the pasta dishes my friends ordered. Fair enough, I eat slower and didn't mind. Yep the pizza arrived less than ten minutes later. 8:00 PM came and the pasta dishes were not in sight. And the pizza was now cold. Very cold. And our waitress was very busy talking to the couple sitting across from us who she evidently already knew or became friendly with in short time. Like I said the food is excellent. Everything else no.

Yelp
Mangia Mondays is a great deal. $80 for 5 dishes, bread, and salad. It's advertised for two, but honestly this could easily feed three people. In fact, we had four people in our party. We added in an order of tomato pizza, and that was sufficient. Paccheri Bolognese (10/10): Holy moly, delicious. Sauce was so rich and had the perfect splash of acidity. The paccheri had such a nice chew, and held the sauce well. I also liked the crunch from the bread crumbs. Classic Carbonara (7/10): Sauce could have been a little thicker. Pasta was delicious. A tiny bit heavy on the black pepper. Short Rib Lasagna (8/10): The portion size was too small for me to really enjoy this dish, but I did enjoy the meat. Mushroom Pappardelle (8/10): The pappardelle was delicious. The mushrooms were also very nicely cooked. The dish itself was too watery, though. The water pooled at the bottom and made it feel soggy. Bucatini All'amatriciana (6/10): Too heavy on the tomato flavors. The guanciale flavor didn't really come through. The bucatini was good, though. Tomato Pie (7/10): Pretty standard. Nothing amazing, but I did appreciate the nicely crisped crust. As for service, the staff kind of forgot about us. We were told it would be about an hour wait. An hour passed and no word. Eventually, a bartender talked to the staff at the front on our behalf, and we got a table. Food took a very long time to come out. They did a good job with water refills, though.

Yelp
Mida never disappoints! The food, atmosphere and service are impeccable! Always a special night when we go!

Yelp
I am living temporarily in Newton and have visited Mida four times in the past 6 weeks. I keep coming back for a reason - great food matched with attentive (but not smothering) service. And I am comfortable dining alone there. I have enjoyed the entrees and pasta dishes I have tried. But I'm moved to write this review because of a discovery last evening that may have changed my food life! It was the end of a very hot day and I wasn't in the mood for something heavy, so I went with a Caesar salad and a calamari/clam strips appetizer. I love Caesar salad but avoid anchovies (unless blended into the dressing) because they overwhelm everything else. But this salad had the option of adding boquerones, anchovies marinated in garlic, herbs, vinegar, and olive oil (I had to Google it!). It promised a lighter more delicate flavor. I decided to try it and I am glad I did. It made for the PERFECT Caesar salad. I'm not sure I can go back to my old Caesar salads and will be looking for boquerones in the future! I will miss this place when I return home!

Yelp
Have dined here a number of times but failed to leave a review. The focaccia is my favorite-never pass it up. Love the pizza -always take some to go. The smoked short rib lasagna is excellent- I usually have it for dinner and then 1-2 meals with leftovers at home. The service is always good- and we also enjoy a drink and/or dinner at the bar. It can get a bit noisy but not hard to hear your fellow diners. Recommend a reservation. Free parking in the lot behind the restaurant or metered street parking.

Yelp
We came to Mida for good pasta. A hungry party of nine we ordered a bunch of stuff. Drinks were good. Two orders of mussels and three fritto misto along with a Caesar salad to start. Mussels were great. Fritto misto was awesome and the Caesar was a good Caesar. Kids loved their pepperoni pizza and butter noodles. Pasta, bucatini, bolognese, papperadelle. Bucatini was about a minute too al dente and the sauce seemed like it was cooked down a bit too much. Bolognese was my fav. Chicken was amazing, pork chop was fine and the lasagne was delicious. Dessert- almond cake was light but the compote was as a bit much. Tiramisu was good and the gelato was more of a friendly's ice cream. Our server was very nice, drinks were slow and service was a little slow at times but everyone was very nice. Some dishes were good but not anything I would go back for. One thing which took it down a star- toooo much sodium. Our tongues felt like a salt lock afterwards

Yelp
We've been to all three MIDA locations and this by far exceeded them all. The restaurant is cook and vibey while also warm and cozy. Our waiter was super nice and made the experience that much better. We ordered the Caesar salad, the cheese pizza, and the fungi tagliatelle. My only note is that the Caesar salad could have used a bit more salt, but otherwise all the food was amazing and redeemed our previous experiences at Mida. The pizza was phenomenal, a true homage to New Haven pizza. The pasta was outstanding. A generous amount of black pepper and citrus really brought out the flavors, I had to scoop out the rest of the sauce with the homemade bread. We finished our meal with a cookie skillet - it tasted home made, not too sweet - just the way I like it - and just the right amount of indulgent semi-sweet chocolate chips. Cannot recommend enough.

Yelp
Went to Mida Newton last night with several friends. Our waiter Calvin greeted us immediately, very friendly, very attentive, as were all of the staff that waited on us. Food was outstanding. We tried several items from the appetizer to the dinner menu list. Drinks were excellent, atmosphere was absolutely open airy and beautiful. I would definitely run back here. Would also like to try other locations. Thank you Mida for a wonderful evening and dinner experience!!!

Yelp
Food was super good and were able to be sat without a reservation on a Sunday evening. They have gluten free pasta which actually tastes good! The only weird thing was that they brought out the pizza 20 min before all the other entrees? And then we never saw our waiter again.

Yelp
On 04/13 my bf and I brought our friend to Mida in Newton for his birthday. When I made the reservation I never mentioned it was for a birthday. When we came in and I checked in with the hostess, she overhead my bf talking to our friend calling him the birthday boy. She said nothing. But when we ordered the Citrus Almond Cake for dessert after dinner for us all to share, the waiter brought that, a lit birthday candle in a tiny bowl and he gave us a Tiramisu on the house. That is true hospitality! Our dinners were delicious. I had the Rock Shrimp Carbonara. So tasty! To drink I had the Walnut St Sour. I recommend both of these. My bf got the Bay of Fundy Salmon and their iced tea. Our friend got the Pizza Bianca and a diet Coke. Both of them were happy with their meals. Mida is very spacious inside. It's nice that you don't feel crammed in with other patrons. The vibe in there is a laid back elegance.

Yelp
Our experience here was quite exceptional. We had a fairly large party (of 7) and our server, Livia was outstanding. She must get a shout out. She knew the menu well, she knew her wines and she knew how to have a conversation. She was super attentive the whole time and played a huge role in making the dining experience so exceptional. Now onto the food. Ordered the focaccia cheesy bread, braised pork tagliatelle and the ricotta donuts for dessert. Let's start with the entree - perfect slow cooked pork in a light sauce with tagliatelle al dente. Well seasoned and super light. The focaccia - mouthwatering, crispy at the edges, soft in the middle. Ricotta donuts - could only handle one as it was so delicious. Reminded me of good ole beignets. The ambience at this MIDA was amazing - it was full but not noisy. How they make that happen is beyond me but it's fantastic. Go!

Samantha G.

Yelp
Very cute aesthetic on the inside but why so $$$ for no reason. Waitress was average, they didn't really check on us and was hard to get the bill but I get it, it was busy. they did partially rush us because there was a reservation and they needed our table (my fault) but still made the experience less than ideal. On top of that we got the wrong dish, but I didn't even want to complain because they needed the table or whatever. We had gotten the Proscitto Pizza which was pretty good but the "wow factor" was missing.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Back in July a friend and I stopped in because we wanted some eggplant pasta. It was late and they were still open and packed. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside and were immediately seated. We ordered the Caesar salad, mussels, my friend got the eggplant Parmesan, and I ordered a gluten-free and vegetarian pasta that was not on the menu. Everything was delicious. I especially appreciated the vegetarian pasta because it wasn't the normal penne like other restaurants provide when you request gluten-free pasta. It was well seasoned and spicy, had fresh spinach, and the pasta was not grainy. If you ever stop by Mida, request this option, and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I have been to this location a few times and have enjoyed the dishes here so far. Food: 7/10 We usually order the mussels, the short rib lasagna, and the bolognese. Sometimes we throw in a pizza as well and have always enjoyed our selection. I think my favorite is still the short rib lasagna (not pictured arghhh!). I always feel that it's too small :) Location & Service: 8/10 There's a parking lot and ample street parking, so that's a plus! We also like the area as well! We have had pretty fast and good service, and never had anything to complain. Value & Ambience: 8/10 I think this is a nice place for a casual meal with friends and family. Not too loud, but also not too quiet to the point where you always feel the need to fill the void. Overall, fair prices and good food! Would recommend!

Yelp
What a fun place. Really enjoyed the bar here. The drinks were great and so was the food. It has a very nice decor that is clean and modern. Great menu that is pizza forward. The service was really efficient and friendly. The bartender even made an excellent off menu lemon drop for me. Two thumbs up.
google avatar

Roberta Z.

Yelp
Have eaten there many times. Never disappointed . Initial greeting always welcoming. Service is sometimes off.

Gail S.

Yelp
Although I've had two less than stellar meals here (one dinner, one lunch), my husband had never eaten here so we decided to try it for dinner. We ordered the roasted carrots with sumac yogurt and cherry-almond condimento as a starter. We enjoyed the taste, however the carrots were under-roasted and we had to saw through them with our knives. My husband ordered the cod with farro, which he said was enjoyable although a bit over salted. I ordered the chicken, which came with an arugula salad and mushroom risotto. The salad had a delicious tangy dressing, and I enjoyed the risotto, although like the farro , it was a bit over salted. Unfortunately, as I began to eat the chicken, after a few bites, I noticed that some of it was under cooked and pink. I informed one of the staff who alerted the manager. When the manager came over to our table, he apologized and asked me if I wanted a different meal, which I declined. He essentially kind of shrugged and walked away. No offer to comp our dinner (although the chicken was taken off the bill), no offer of dessert or coffee. We were a bit taken aback by his almost apathetic response. On a positive note, the service was excellent. Water was refilled promptly, dishes were quickly cleared . Our waitress was very apologetic about the meal, and encouraged us to come back and give it another try.

E W.

Yelp
Delicious food. The short rib lasagna was pretty substantive, though the brasato al vino rosso was a bit smaller (but still incredible). Our waitress was wonderful, and the restaurant itself had a very nice interior.
google avatar

Julianne W.

Yelp
My all time favorite restaurant, MIDA you never disappoint! If you are looking for a unique Italian dinner experience with superb, fresh dishes and fantastic service, look no further! Short rib lasagna is a MUST, it's arguably the best thing on the menu. But besides that, any dish I have had here (cacio e Pepe gnocchi & carbonara are sticking out to me to note) has been truly excellent. Meals are so fresh and well-prepared, and the drinks and wines offered to go along with the meals are top notch. I have never been disappointed with anything here, and my most recent trip was no exception!
google avatar

Deb B.

Yelp
It was very good! We went for our anniversary dinner! The hostess to the waitress to the meal; everything was wonderful!

Conor M.

Yelp
Really disappointing evening here, haven't been in over a year. We used to love getting the Bolognese which has completely changed. Extremely watery, no flavor and very bitter broccoli rabe. The whole evening we were waiting - pizza (which was ordered as a meal) came out about 10-15 minutes before the rest of the tables entrees. Unfortunately after the food came out, we didn't see the server till we were done eating. Dessert, skillet cookie and donuts took close to 30 minutes. The wait was so long that the manager had to come over to apologize for the extensive wait. At that point I'd think at least one of the two desserts would've been taken care of but I was wrong. Very unfortunate as this used to be a great spot. The second star is for the delicious pizza and the drinks which were worth the long wait.

Yelp
Was a fan of Mida's South End location, so we wanted to try out this location. We were pleasantly surprised at how large the space is, and appreciated how beautifully decorated it is. We had a reservation for Friday evening for two, and were seated right away. There's a wide variety of seating options for various party sizes. We both ordered non-alcoholic drinks, and got the Fritto Misto, Tagliatelle Alla Vongole, and Sausage Pizza to share. We had gotten the calamari previously, but the other two were new to us. The pizza wasn't a standout to me, but I really enjoyed the pesto pasta and would order it again. Last time, we were too full for dessert so we made it a mission to leave room for tiramisu. I was a little disappointed because the tiramisu wasn't the classic style like what I was expecting. It was still yummy, but didn't completely hit the spot. While the service ended up being a little slow, and our drinks were forgotten at some point, our waitress was friendly and apologetic about the delays and for forgetting our drinks. Overall, I really enjoyed coming here. If you're looking for a good Italian meal at a relaxed pace, Mida is for you.

Jenna H.

Yelp
Love this restaurant and peoples they hav ca great food menu! But even better wine menu

dave r.

Yelp
We went there for a party - 6 people. Even though we had a reservation it took 20 minutes to get a seat - ok it happens on a busy night, but it was a bit pretentious. The service was ok, not great. We had to pull them back to get water refills. We also had an instance where the incorrect food was dropped off and we had to pull them back to replace the food. The food was ok - it was really good, but not wow. And the price is a a bit much for a Newton (not Boston) Italian place. Again really nice place but it can just be better.
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
Great service. Really good food. Went on a busy Friday night around 6:45 and got a table for 2 in the dining room. They were full but not packed. Enjoyed the meal, main dishes of sausage pizza and eggplant parmesan. Food arrived in good time, our waitress and her support staff were very friendly and professional. Good atmosphere, a bit loud but this was expected for a Friday night. We will return. Food prices reasonable, my Athletic non-alcoholic beer was pricey at $8.

Bea T.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here and I am surprised how tasty the food is. The menu itself is not complicated so I ordered based on our servers recommendation. I had a good martini called the Blank PIane ordered the arancini, the he olives and the muscles. All were delicious! I had the roasted chicken and it was marvelously flavorhood on risotto and the arugula. It was juicy and flavorful this is one of my favorite dishes. I sampled the boar lasagna and it was good and the pizza the Bianca Pizza was good an fresh from the oven. The service was a little bit lacking because I think they will understand so I really didn't know where our server was but everybody was delivering and helping each other out so I suppose that was good...the only issue I have is the pizza was my daughter's dinner and that came late so they apologize and I request a free dessert for the lateness and our server gave us a tiramisu with a big M on it. It was creative I wouldn't say it's the best. I think I was very pleased with what I ordered and I do like the active ambiance. It's good for dates, families and parties.

Yelp
We went to Mida for Restaurant Week. Great decor, large wide space opening with open kitchen and great service. Started off with the crispy calamari and our entrees were delicious and heavy such as the Bolognese, lasagna. The sausage Bolognese was the highlight so flavorful, meaty, and sauce was top notch.
google avatar

Jake W.

Yelp
Great spot!! Huge menu. Lots of variety. Awesome wine. Definitely recommend. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I had never heard of Mida, but in looking for lunch place last week, found the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. We had a reservation for 11:30 and we were only the 2nd full table. But by the time we finished, the place was pretty busy - impressive given it was a weekday and it's HUGE. My husband and I both liked the atmosphere and decor - light, airy, clean.... We split the Arancini, which were DELICIOUS. I could have eaten so many more, but I appreciated the size (4 good-sized arancini). I got the Chicken Caesar salad and my husband got the fried chicken sandwich. The portions are generous, but not huge, and everything was DELICIOUS. We split the skillet cookie for dessert and it was the perfect size, and the perfect ending to our meal.. The only thing I didn't absolutely love was the bread with olive oil to start. The bread was actually REALLY yummy, but I prefer a flavored olive oil or butter. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Overall, a really enjoyable meal (albeit a bit pricey), and I would definitely go back.

Erica L.

Yelp
Went for dinner last night with a few friends. It's a beautiful restaurant with a fun atmosphere! It was very lively! The food was good and the espresso martinis were yummy. The arancini was delicious and definitely the best part. The insalata mista was also great. The bolognese was ok but wish there had been more pasta for the amount of meat sauce. My friends ordered the eggplant parm and the mushroom pappardelle.
google avatar

Gabriella G.

Yelp
Food is delicious, especially the sausage pizza! Service is always five star, waiters are friendly and courteous. The restaurant has a lot of charm!

J W.

Yelp
Went for Mangia Monday night. A ton of food for the price - 5 dishes that you pick plus salad and bread. Portions were large- definitely enough for 4 people instead of the 2 they advertise. Salad was very good. Pastas were all good- definitely homemade and interesting shapes. BUT 3 of the sauces were just not good-- too garlicky and not really much else taste. Kinda reminded us of the kind of pasta dish you get on an airplane. Really too bad since pastas were worthy of good sauces. Maybe 2nd string cooks for Monday night?!?!? Unfortunately left bad taste in my mouth - both figuratively and literally- so doubtful will be back.
google avatar

Toni J.

Yelp
The food is always delicious and the service is impeccable. We sat near the open kitchen and it was loud but so interesting to watch. The handmade pasta is yummy and our waiter steered us right when we couldn't decide between two menu items. Plus good cocktails!

Louise S.

Yelp
Very tasty food. Like the open Kitchen. Friendly efficient service. Nice family vibe. Parking out back makes this a win.

Yelp
Somewhere between a 3 and a 4 but I'm rounding up for the overall atmosphere, the proximity of a solid jack-of-all-trades place to my apartment, and the parking lot in the back. Like other reviews have mentioned, the interior is airy and bright and spacious, suitable for date night, girl's night, a special occasion, birthdays, etc. I counted quite a few tables, including some enviable looking booths, but do recommend making a reservation particularly for Friday and Saturday nights. My favorite of the dishes we ordered was the North Shore fritto misto, with generous, not too oily or breaded chunks of calamari. I liked the kick of the cherry peppers in the dish. I got a lot of calamari, but not much of the featured clam strips or oysters. We also tried the Sicilian mussels. Couldn't really taste either the pesto or the chili, a really tomato-forward dish, but otherwise the mussels were cooked well and the accompanying sauce would have been perfect with some more of the table bread. A word on the portion sizes - the photos don't do justice to how big even the appetizers are. Three of the apps are more than enough for two people. Second favorite of the night was the eggplant parm. Initially, I thought it was a little steep at $24 for a vegetarian entree without any sides but I ate my words when I tried that first bite. Beautiful layers, expertly crisp top, almost like a lasagna. I would definitely order this again. I didn't love the cheese pizza - it was a bit too thin-crust for me, and that's coming from someone who much prefers the toppings/cheese to the dough. If you're someone who loves fluffy/chewy dough, this pizza is probably not going to do it for you. Our waiter checked up on us often. Extensive wine and cocktail list. Bears repeating that there is a whole parking lot in the back once you make the right turn before the restaurant, as well as tons of street parking nearby.

Yelp
Mida Newton is always a great experience. We have dined-in and got takeout - both have been worth the value and have been delicious! The take out containers are nice and thoughtful (that matters when it comes to takeout). The service is great in-house as well, personable, professional and accommodating. I recently traveled to Rome, Italy and the menu / authentic dishes that Mida offers, brought me back to my trip. Happy to have you in Newton, cheers!

Yelp
3 years running for our family to order The Feast of Seven Pastas for our Christmas Eve dinner. Never disappoints. And a bargain at that!!!!!! Next best thing to eating at Mida!

Yelp
Mida was a great lunch spot for our family visiting Newton from out of town. We shared starters and the cacio e pepe gnocchi . All the dishes were fresh and tasted amazing without overwhelming us . The insalata mixta is very addicting and we can't wait to return for more!

Yelp
Myself and two friends wanted to try this place for our Friendsgiving Myself and my other friend ordered the short rib lasagna (it was two salty neither of us liked it) my other friend ordered the chicken (she didn't like it at all and was inedible) we ordered a cheese pizza (was too oily) We where so disappointed with the food and for the price it wasn't worth it

Yelp
All around great experience for a birthday celebration. Excellent Old Fashioned at the bar, great wine choices at the table. The "Mangia for Two" was good, but the amount of food on the table was hard to manage with 4 people at the table. My favorite dish was the Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe, and the pizzas have a great char to the crust. Another noteworthy mention... our server Jet was awesome!

Yelp
My husband and I love Mida in Newton. The sun drenched modern decor is swanky yet cozy. The service is consistently tentative and the food is warm and yummy. We love the lemon pancakes for brunch and the short rib lasagna for dinner!

Yelp
It was not an amazing experience but an ok experience. Pizza should have been hotter but heated it up when we got home and it was fine.

Yelp
We had an excellent meal at Mida! First of all I loved the atmosphere and it was very trendy! The only negative about the atmosphere was that it was VERY warm near the kitchen. It was a cold day though, so we didn't mind. The drinks were excellent and the pasta was insanely good. The only other negatives were that the food took a long time but we were given a free dessert because of this. Overall I love the food, drinks, and atmosphere here and would love to go back!
