The 8 Best Places for Valentine’s Day Dessert in Boston | Eater Boston

"Best known for its pasta, this South End Italian also excels at desserts: tiramisu served with a tableside shot of espresso for on-site diners (packed separately for takeout), and rotating house-made gelato flavors such as wild fruit, olive oil, and salted caramel. For Valentine’s Day it’s offering a prix-fixe menu with specials including passionfruit cheesecake and a dark chocolate espresso brownie; indoor dining, takeout, and third‑party delivery are available, with takeout orders placed by phone." - Nathan Tavares

Google
Use at your own risk. Manager comes across as nice but so far I have had to take my vehicle back in multiple times because their “repair” lasts less than an hour. For $2k that doesn’t work. They claim they’ll make it right, but they’ve told me that twice now. No refund so either pray they actually figure out how to do their job or be screwed out of the money and pray they didn’t fo MORE damage.

Tracy S.

Google
DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. Took mine in for a diagnostic. $200 for the diagnostic. Fine. Told they couldn’t do anything about that but there was a leak. Authorized the repair.$2k. Fine. Turn on car and now check engine light is on. Took back. They “fixed” it again. 5 minutes later light is back on. Took back AGAIN. 5 hours later its “done” 20 minutes later light is BACK ON. They claim they’ll make it right but so far all they’ve done is make it worse. Use at your own risk.

Google
Amazing work on the vehicle. Made sure I was aware of what was wrong with the vehicle and offered the best solution for issues. Even showed me the pieces that were damaged. Plus they have financing options, which really helped when it came to paying. Great customer service. Would recommend to my family and friends.

Joleen T.

Google

Google
I had a fantastic experience getting my car in for an oil change, at the last minute, on a Saturday. It was quick and the staff was very informative. I was so pleased with their service that I went back to buy new tires from them, soon after. I will definitely bring my car here for all future repairs/maintenance on my car. Thank you for the friendly and affordable service for my car!

Google
Great service at Midas! Carlos and Mohamed were super helpful, professional, and made the whole process easy. Javier is the current manager, super helpful man. Really appreciated their knowledge and customer care…highly recommend this location my people!

Katie F.

Google
My car was overheating, I took it into this shop, they got us in very quickly! Javier diagnosed the problem in under 30 mins!! He was very professional and gave amazing customer service and even took the time to sit down with me and explain in detail what the problem was, and why it was affecting it in the way it was. For someome who doesnt know much about cars Javier made it easy to understand, and explained what needs to be done in order to fix the issue. Extremely respectful, and great customer service!!!

Google
I meant to leave this review from a few months back, they saved me a huge amount of money in a pre purchase inspection they diagnosed and found tiny metal shards in the oil and trans fluid. Cant thank these guys enough for saving me a huge mistake.

Yelp
EMILIO GONZALES.. he runs the counter and he is amazing. Extremely nice and knowledgeable. I have had multiple nails in my tires are different times this year and have brought it to this location. I have dealt with Emilio each time and they really are nice people there. I usually am in and out and don't have a complaint.

Yaneicy M.

Yelp
HORRIBLE. Took in my truck a couple months ago they didn't even end up fixing it & scratching it & now they dont want to take responsibility. Dont take your cars here even if they promise to fix it. Save yourself the headache.
google avatar

Yelp
Genuinely kind hearted people, super friendly, and lending a charger for my dead phone. Also super close to home and I like the customer service.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Do not touch this place, RIP off and sneaky. They will charge you anything they want, came in for an oil change and told them my check engine was on, just wanted a quote. Charged me $280 for oil and "diagnosis" such a joke $150 for them to check my engine light when it's free at autozone

Kate S.

Yelp
DO NOT GET AN OIL CHANGE HERE. April of 2024 got a routine oil change, a few months later went to another mechanic for brake pads and they informed me the oil pan cap was loose, barely finger tight, and the GASKET WAS GONE. all my oil was gone and I needed a new oil change just two months after coming to midas. worthless waste of money for bad workmanship

Yelp
Some context: I'm a 32 year old single female that knows enough about cars to not get scammed. Came in to get one of the valves replaced on my 6 month old tire. Dude quoted me 100$ to get 1 valve replaced. I laughed and told him I'll take my tire back now and leave. Went to discount tire right down the street, they did it for free and said they would replace the rest for 20$. It's extremely frustrating knowing how many women have probably got scammed here. Will never go back.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Dominic the receptionist called me obnoxious for asking a question. I was advised when scheduling my appointment that I could wait while my car was getting inspection but I clearly felt unwanted. After 15 min of waiting I wanted to get a time estimate so I could make arrangements to leave and come back. I ask Dominic when they were going to get to my car... He interrupted me and yelled at me without wearing a required mask that, "it will take several hours and you're being obnoxious!" I have had service in the past with a whole different staff and have never been treated this poorly! I will not be back!
google avatar

Robin S.

Yelp
Marcus helped me out with my coolant issues, he was transparent and explained what was going on. Also fast with repairs & they had good communication.

Brandon J.

Yelp
if I could choose 0 stars I would. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR VEHICLE. after getting my catalytic converter replaced I was charged $314.01. 2 days later i get a call from them threatening to take me to court because they we're supposed to charge me $3,140.01. it's not my fault they're employees don't know how to run a cash register. I had to go back in and pay the remaining $2,826 because they were threatening to take me to court over a mistake that they made.

Yelp
DO NOT GO TO THIS MIDAS! I had a check engine light issue. My diesel Passat needed blue Def liquid added. I had just topped it off myself a week prior... but apparently needed more after driving 1200 miles to CO (???) when I did it, I bought a gallon from Pep boys for $15. It's literally like filling your tank... you remove a cap in the trunk & pour in the liquid. Quick and simple. This Midas location charged over $200. Due to extenuating circumstances, I just agreed and paid it. But that's what you're dealing with here. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. UPDATE 9-9-21: The Midas team posted a response to this review, and gave a link to reach out to them. This appears to just be a canned response to give the appearance of being responsive and caring. I've submitted multiple contact requests to the link provided, and they have simply not responded. Not once. I'm updating my recommendation to AVOID ALL MIDAS locations. I know I'll drop my business from my local shop, based on this experience.

Yelp
Went there because the pipe connected to my muffler and tail pipe broke off. I spoke with the manager, Marcus, who was wonderful. He worked with me on the price and was dead on with timing. No surprises. Honest. Good work. In the current climate of HORRIBLE customer service, I was floored at how well I was treated. I will be recommending them from here on out. Thank you for such a great experience!

Jeremy R.

Yelp
Michael immediately diagnosed my problem, explained every technical question I had about it, and they fixed the lug on my tire for free. I plan to go to this shop for everything going forward, and I encourage others to do the same.

Jonny T.

Yelp
Guys in here were awesome and good and the stuff they do!! Came in with a leaking tire and left in 15 minutes. Highly recommend this place!!

Loc N.

Yelp
Definitely ask for Mike or Marcus!! They provide priceless service for our car Mike was extremely helpful. We called ahead and talk to Marcus, who made the the last min appointment. We were flying back the day of and Mike understood our desperation. He quickly got to work and made the car better than it was before. I'll be sure to always bring my cars here next time! Not to mention this was on a busy Saturday. Really amazing customer service by Mike and Marcus. I truly appreciate them! They made the whole process stress free and great prices

T. F.

Yelp
BUYER BEWARE!!!!! This place will try and take advantage of you! I had them repair my radiator coolant reservoir and A/C condenser. Then my radiator fan stopped working the same day. So i brought it back and had them check their work and they wanted me to pay $2100 for a new radiator fan. I decided to wait a few days and had "Christian Brothers Automotive" take a look at it. Thank god i did because the radiator fan was in perfect working order. The incompetent staff at Midas just didn't plug my radiator fan in. So you make the call, but from my experience the staff here is incompetent and dishonest.

Yelp
Got an estimate on a muffler issue. Was told it needed to be replaced and would be $500 or $600 with an additional optional piece. Took it to Bud's Muffler on Cherokee and was told only one piece needed to be fixed, not replaced- $100. Avoid at all costs.

Sara K.

Yelp
If I could give the Midus on Alameda a negative star I would. my boyfriend dropped off his Audi to them because it ran out of coolant due to a hose leak and they treated him like garbage! Mike was the one the handle our car and it's issues and instead of having good customer service he decides to CUSS at my boyfriend and tell him that he is the reason the car is messed up to give a little back story we bought the car from a cheap used car place so there were already things wrong with it. BUT MIKE WHO IS A STORE MANAGER decided to be so rude we had the car towed to a different place also to add he never mentioned a few till the tow truck GOT THERE and we had to pay a fine for it to be released.

Yelp
After getting my car back the housing thet keeps my brake pads Secure fill off on my way home on I 25 Leaving me stranded at 5:00 a.m. in the Winter to walk home I was livid I will never use Midas again.

Luke H.

Yelp
Went in for an oil change, was prompted with a couple options and went with the extra maintenance package. Was told about 2, not so pressing, items and was given estimates on which to repair. Staff friendly and knowledgable. Will be a lifelong customer

Tony G.

Yelp
My daughter's car had a radiator leak so she took it in for a quote, and these clowns quoted her 3 grand to change out the radiator fan and replace the thermostats, saying that they'd need to practically dismantle the front of the car. And then we she didn't authorize the work, they threw attitude at her! She then took it to our regular mechanic, who figured out that all she needed was a new radiator cap! Some people.....smh
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
Had another coupon. Made an appointment. Still had to wait. Then car is making noise. Fluids not topped off. Seriously low on antifreeze. Had to do it myself. REALLY, what's the point of making an appointment or promotion of fluid checking if you're not going to do anything.
google avatar

Hans O.

Yelp
I'll start going to this Midas instead of the previous place I used to go for an oil change. This place is not quite in my neighborhood, but it's conveniently located next to Viet Hoa (Asian grocery store) and Aboba Café (which is located inside Viet Hoa). There is nothing worse than to stare at antique vending machines, scan through old newspapers, old magazines... This Midas location offers free Wi-Fi and it's conveniently located next to these shops, where you can wonder and grab a sandwich. Plus you can save couple greens by printing their coupons, which are available at (http://midasdenver.com/offers.aspx?shopNum=5648&language=en-US).

Greg P.

Yelp
Advertised oil change for 17.99, charged 87.00 stating car used full synthetic, which it does not. Manager lied. Asked for corporate number, gave a false number then hung up. Absolutely the worst customer service and bait and switch tactics. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!!!

Matt B.

Yelp
Midas insisted on unnecessary work to my exhaust system. I needed a simple repair and they refused.
google avatar

Faith M.

Yelp
At this Midas, I had probably the best experience I've ever had getting an oil change. Dominic was fantastic! Such good customer service.
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
The guys here are super sympathetic and helpful! I've gone here twice now and both times, they went above and beyond. When Walmart cross-threaded three of my studs and I needed a new hub, they worked with me and got it done that day! Super appreciative and I'll definitely go back!
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Great service! I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it the same day and Kevin moved things around to accommodate me to come in after work and get it done (I live in conifer and wasn't able to drop off for the day). Super fast , answered all my questions and didn't try to up sell anything. Had me in and out which is so appreciated! I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
I go here and they tell me I need new ball joints on my truck. 900 plus dollars is what they qoute me for lower ball joints! I tell them that's way to much, they say I can bring in my own parts and they will do it for 400. I do that. They install them and I come back within a week saying that they were still knocking. The head mechanic looks at the truck and tells me that the installer didn't grease the new ball joints and gets the grease gun and lubes them in the parking lot. I come back 10 days later and same mechanic puts it on the rack and tells me the new ball joints are shot. Less than 3 weeks! He tells me the lift kit killed the joints. Well I've had that lift on for more than a year! Almost 100,000 miles on those old ball joints. But midas says that's the problem? Maybe not greasing them from the jump killed them! I call to see if they can do anything and felix tells me they dont warranty new parts that were brought in! He never told me that when he was trying to get my business! I tried talking to Felix and pretty much says I'm lying about no grease and that he watched the guy grease my ball joints from 3 weeks prior.. really dude? Than why did head mechanic say he didn't and proceed to lube the installed ball joints 6 or so days after install? In the parking lot! There was no grease when installed! Not only that now my truck drives MUCH WORSE! Seriously I tipped the head mechanic generously and the installer cause Its the Holidays and I thought they were treating me right. I was wrong. So enjoy the tips and keep my money and I will spread the word on how you did me. That's my warning to ANYONE LOOKING AT THE COMMENTS! DO NOT GO HERE OR YOU WILL BE SCAMMED!

Yelp
these guys are what a repair shop should be. i had my oil changed there for a good price and while waiting i overheard the manager explaining in understandable terms to two customers what their options were. as a car guy myself, i heard him give good solid advice that was not predicated on him making a big sale. we need more community based honest shops like this.

Jenna W.

Yelp
Marcus and his team go above and beyond! My car got stolen and needed some work done - they took out all of the stress from the situation and made sure I was taken care of. Never taking my car anywhere else but here.

Madison R.

Yelp
I took my car into mitis for an oil change I knew that my car was old and needed some help Marcus at the front desk helped me I think he was a manager. I thought my bill was going to be thousands of dollars after telling me everything that I needed he worked with me got me on a financial plan and fix my car within my own budget and I am grateful I have been to other shops that I've just tried to charge me thousands right out the door and this guy actually worked with me I will 100% take my car here again
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
Had my engine light turn on while driving through town. The guys at Midas got me right in to run diagnostics and gave me a fair quote. Quick and accurate.
google avatar

Robin M.

Yelp
Keith the mechanic remembered me and introduced me to Ed, the new manager at this branch. (Gil has moved to the Midas on West Colfax.) All I needed was an oil change, so I bought a new Gold Card and was soon on my way. Great, fast, competent service. I'll definitely continue using this shop!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
I am a believer in Midas. I'll just say that straight up, but it is also true that not all Midas' are created equal. I have used this shop for oil changes and minor to moderate repair work for several years. I have always found them to be very friendly, very honest, and very professional. For a straight oil change the price is pretty similar to any other quick lube shop, but can be made much more affordable with the purchase of a 'gold card' (really just four oil changes at a discount, but it also comes with two free tire rotations and a host of other discounted services). What really sets this Midas apart from most automotive places is customer service. Even if I just go in for an oil change I will always get a phone call within a week from the store manager thanking me for my business and making sure that everything is satisfactory. I have never yet had a single problem on any of the work that I have had done here.
google avatar

Jona B.

Yelp
Received a quote for a entire new muffler for my 2012 Nissan Sentra total "parts and labor$750.97 Decided to get a second opinion from a nice clean mechanic shop a mile away Bishop automotive, quote Total with parts and labor $240. Went back to ask the manager at Midas why The insane price discrepancy, he just said "I don't set the prices, sorry"
google avatar

Kelli Jae B.

Yelp
Upfront, I would advise you NEVER to go to this business--not sure if it's just this location, or all Midas service locations, but I had to let everyone know that they LIED about most of the repairs that needed to be done on my vehicle. I was told, for instance, that ALL my ball joints were in bad shape and need replacing. Among other things. Got a second opinion at Firestone, and what Midas said was just wrong. Midas repairs were about $2500, and the same inspections at Firestone made that only $800. They verified that what Midas said was not true. And here's an important point, the thing they said i had to do first, because of how dangerous it was, was the lie, and the thing that needed to be done REALLY was my brakes. So i could have had brake failure because i did unnecessary repairs on the other things that weren't even in need of repair. DON"T USE MIDAS!

Brittany G.

Yelp
Quick, good service. They didn't try to upsell me on anything and did exactly what was needed. Will be going back for future oil changes
google avatar

Derek W.

Yelp
I trust them. Period. Will is a straight-up good dude. He won my loyal business the first time I visited with honesty, service, and pricing. Gave me a great tire, that I needed, at cost. They set me up with a schedule of maintenance complete with pricing. Every time I go in, he gets it done quickly and always finds a way to get me a lower price. They even will give me a ride home and back while my truck is worked on. Will is dedicated to his shop but always finds time for his family.
google avatar

Billie G.

Yelp
Mechanics that you can trust! Fast service and kind staff. And because yelp is making me write more hi guys you rock!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Fast and reliable service. Staff is beyond amiable. I recently had a terrible experience at a Goodyear and this trip more than made up for it. When i was concerned about not being able to get my girlfriend to work on time, the person helping me offered us a free ride to wherever we needed to go. We didn't have to take him up on the offer though because they were so quick.
google avatar

Chantell L.

Yelp
We took our daughters BMW 328xi in to get serviced this week. We worked with Will and he was incredible! Very personable, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. We had a coupon that expired a few days ago and Will honored it anyway, we are very appreciative. We will definitely be back!

Jon F.

Yelp
Got a quote at this location, got quoted $938.61 got a second opinion at a different location and they quoted me $200. Definitely a upsell/armed robbery. I would not recommend going to this location if you don't want to have your money taken. They also gave me bad information about the part that needs to be changed.
google avatar

Darin H.

Yelp
Brett and his team took great care of me on 8/10/17. Goodyear up the road quoted me $866 on a 2 wheel brake job, including replacing calipers - and they did not need to be replaced! I went to MIDAS for a 2nd opinion, and I an sure glad I did!! Brett saved me over $366 and treated me with respect. I asked for a quote for 2 new tires and he came in with better tires and lower prices than Goodyear quoted me. Thanks to Brett and his team of professionals, I now have a shop I can trust!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHOP!! You won't be sorry!
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Great service. Store manager Will was up front and honest about services needed. He fixed my car under a tight time restriction and kept me informed throughout the day of progress so I didnt get nervous. Great job, highly recommended
google avatar

Deb V.

Yelp
Midas and Will, the manager, were absolutely amazing and got my daughter back on the road with a safe car. As a mom, that means a lot! He not only talked about the needed repairs, he showed us under the car what he was talking about so we felt confident going forward with the repairs. He was honest and fair and helped us with the best options. My daughter will be a returning customer! Thanks Midas and Will!

Keith M.

Yelp
Super friendly, prompt, and professional. I will definitely be back. Thank you Jacob and crew! Close to my house for drop off/pick up so its great to have a reliable shop nearby. Much appreciated.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
Will at Midas was extraordinarily helpful. Despite having a completely booked day, he added my oil change appointment and was very accommodating. In addition, the entire staff was prompt, respectful and provided nothing but the highest quality service. I would give them my highest recommendation!
google avatar

Nancy F.

Yelp
I didn't appreciate the fact that I was told the price of an oil change is $24.99 but was not told up front of the disposal fee for the oil of $2. I told the guy at the front desk "so it is really $26.99, not $24.99" and he said yes and I said why don't you say that and he said that it is advertised as $24.99. I said then it is false advertising. He should do the right thing and tell people about the $2 fee - he has the ability to do that but chooses to be unethical.

Yelp
I just moved to Lakewood 2 weeks ago from Colorado Springs. I didn't know the area enough to know any reputable places yet, so I went with a National Brand, thinking they would hopefully be honest enough. That was NOT the case. This place is either completely incompetent or dishonest beyond belief! I took my 2004 Ford Mustang in to have a tune up this morning. It was idling hard at stop lights, but it was still running from point A to point B, so I thought it would run better with a tune up. I explained to them that I needed to keep costs down, as I only had so much to put toward this, the car is honestly not even worth what I have had to put into it so far for various repairs (being an old car, that 's just how it is). I just don't have the money to replace it and need a running car, but the car isn't worth spending a bunch of money to fix everything on it right now, and so I communicated that needed to stick with only the immediate priorities. One of the employees called me about mid-morning to let me know that my car was "literally vomiting oil" and that in order to figure out where that was coming from, they would need to inject a die and have me drive a certain number of miles so they could see where the leak is coming from. You would think if the car was "literally vomitting oil," that it would be pretty obvious where it was coming from, but I definitely don't know anything about cars, so I have to rely on professionals to let me know what needs to happen to fix the problem. They then let me know that my shocks were "completely gone," and that if I hit a pot hole, it could cause serious damage to my car. I am a single mom, and I have to drive over 100 miles every weekend to pick up my son, between Denver and Colorado Springs on 1-25, so avoiding a pothole is not an option. Based on his description, the shocks then became more urgent need in my eyes, but turns out, it was not as urgent as they made it sound. The 3rd thing they said was urgent was that they thought the tune up might not fix the problem of the idling hard at lights and they were thinking it might be the throttle position sensor. They said they would just order it and plug it in to try it and if it doesn't work, they would return it. Thinking it was more serious than it was, I agreed to have them do that work at a new total of just shy of $900...keep in mind, I went in for a $136 tune-up with a working car. When I went to pick up my car after work this evening, he let me know that they did the tune up and it didn't help. They tried the throttle sensor and that didn't work and now my car is running worse than it was but they don't know what's wrong with it. They said the shocks are done, but that the car is worse off now than when they did the tune-up, but I would of course have to pay more in order to figure out what's wrong with it. I went in for a tune-up with a running car and now my car is now completely inoperable!! I had a 4 mile drive home from Midas and my car would not run more than 15mph and I had to drive the entire way with my flashers on going 15mph in a 45mph (if I pushed the gas to go faster, it just wouldn't go and it would die). My car was backfiring, sputtering, dying, AND smoking! It was NOT doing this when I took it in for a tune-up. So drove my WORKING car in for a $136 tune up and left with $900 shocks that didn't need replaced on a car that no longer runs. My next stop is the BBB to file a complaint.
