Where to Drink Cocktails in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"MidCity has operated in some capacity for over a decade, and while it isn’t a new bar per se, it does have a new cocktail program developed by Jose Pereiro, a food and beverage photographer and beverage specialist, better known as “the Cocktail Shaker” on social media and to friends in the industry. Hidden in plain sight, the bar and listening lounge has recently hosted mixology innovators and guest bartenders, like Mexico City’s Eric van Beek of Handshake Bar. Signature cocktails are named after the most prominent ingredient (for example, carrot cake, banana, corn, watermelon, and cucumber are all names of drinks on the menu), and the classics include great interpretations of classics like the spicy margarita, negroni bianco, and old-fashioned. Walk-ins only." - Allison Ramirez

I took a gamble and actually visited an Atlanta bar recently. The drink culture is a bit different in Atlanta, but @lucasaccis was at this particular bar Mid City, so I decided it was worth the risk to see someone knowledgeable about agave spirits. The space is just the right size, with outside seating available. After checking out the back bar, I was confident that nothing I ordered would give me a headache tomorrow. Also it's close to the Marta (Atlantas train system) To be fair, I ordered two drinks off the pop-up(Lucas's)menu and two drinks off the regular menu. Here's what I had: Baja Bramble - So a bramble with a Mexican gin. Sign me up. Not only did Lucas take Dick Bradsels baby and liven it up with a Mexican gin, but he also used black currant liqueur instead of the sometimes hard to find creme de mure. It's a great cocktail anytime of the day and a great twist on one of my all-time favorite classic cocktails. I had This at El Gallo - Not often do I have a cocktail that confuses me, but this one did it. It was delicious, but it's hard to describe. The sweetness and tart elements were in balance, but I think it's my limited experience with Raicia. I only have one bottle, and I need more time with this drink to really understand it. Plantain Sour - A cocktail with a lot of depth and bold design. This eye-catching drink has ripe plantain, amaretto, rum, chai, and most shockingly tonka bean. Tonka bean is one of those ingredients that's hard to get your hands on. For that reason alone you should try this drink. Corn 🌽: Milk Punch, don't mind if I do. To be fair, when I ordered this particular drink, I didn't know it was a milk punch. I wanted to compare it to the corn sour I had @superbeno, but the profile was different. Mezcal plays very different when its milk washed. The garnish was not only beautiful but a tasty bite. Honorable Mentions: So there were a few other drinks I wanted to try on their menu, but it was a school night. The Pomegranate was a fizzy drink with hibiscus 🌺, apretivo, with a mezcal base. The "Rise and Shine" was a whiskey based sipper served on a block of ice. It had Cacao butter, averna, and vanilla tea. I also saw it came with a piece of popcorn 🍿.

Visited this lovely spot and was very impressed. On my stop there they had a special batender Johan Luque presenting award winning cocktails. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was treated like a celebrity. I later learned after researching Johan how notable he is!

I looked this place up and decided to walk 15 min to get there only to be pleasantly surprised that it was even better than I expected. The atmosphere is either better than the reviews on the picture show. The bar staff are true mixologists which made me think there's no way the food can follow. I was wrong! The bar staff knew exactly what to offer and everything I tried was perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Add to that the vibe and ambiance and the ambient music background and your almost in a speak easy! Definitely recommend.

From food, ambience, costumer service to interior aesthetic and overall quality energy it’s an amazing place to spend a lovely evening with friends For the past couple of years it’s been mine and my friend’s spot before a night out, after work or even for a chill night Best handcrafted drinks in town !! Hands down to Jose !! I get pretty bored of going to the same place always but at Midcity they switch up the menu very often so it’s always something delicious and interesting to enjoy !!

We stopped at mid city to for a quick drink in the evening. Small spot in downtown atlanta. The ambience of the place is what attracted us towards it. The internal decor was simple and well thought. The old fashioned was good but nothing extraordinary. You feel like you have had this before. The pita bread served with the hummus though was some of the best bread we had in a while.
