I took a gamble and actually visited an Atlanta bar recently. The drink culture is a bit different in Atlanta, but @lucasaccis was at this particular bar Mid City, so I decided it was worth the risk to see someone knowledgeable about agave spirits.
The space is just the right size, with outside seating available. After checking out the back bar, I was confident that nothing I ordered would give me a headache tomorrow. Also it's close to the Marta (Atlantas train system)
To be fair, I ordered two drinks off the pop-up(Lucas's)menu and two drinks off the regular menu.
Here's what I had:
Baja Bramble - So a bramble with a Mexican gin. Sign me up. Not only did Lucas take Dick Bradsels baby and liven it up with a Mexican gin, but he also used black currant liqueur instead of the sometimes hard to find creme de mure. It's a great cocktail anytime of the day and a great twist on one of my all-time favorite classic cocktails.
I had This at El Gallo - Not often do I have a cocktail that confuses me, but this one did it. It was delicious, but it's hard to describe. The sweetness and tart elements were in balance, but I think it's my limited experience with Raicia. I only have one bottle, and I need more time with this drink to really understand it.
Plantain Sour - A cocktail with a lot of depth and bold design. This eye-catching drink has ripe plantain, amaretto, rum, chai, and most shockingly tonka bean. Tonka bean is one of those ingredients that's hard to get your hands on. For that reason alone you should try this drink.
Corn 🌽: Milk Punch, don't mind if I do. To be fair, when I ordered this particular drink, I didn't know it was a milk punch. I wanted to compare it to the corn sour I had @superbeno, but the profile was different. Mezcal plays very different when its milk washed. The garnish was not only beautiful but a tasty bite.
Honorable Mentions: So there were a few other drinks I wanted to try on their menu, but it was a school night. The Pomegranate was a fizzy drink with hibiscus 🌺, apretivo, with a mezcal base. The "Rise and Shine" was a whiskey based sipper served on a block of ice.
It had Cacao butter, averna, and vanilla tea. I also saw it came with a piece of popcorn 🍿.
