Google
Best coffee shop in Middleburg. Great breakfast sandwich. Coffee is excellent. Friendly service. The dirty chai was amazing.

Abigail Gray

Google
Coffee was pretty decent, breakfast sandwiches were amazing, and liked the outside seating. Sadly the lemonades were a little weak though.

Jane Newbegin

Google
Waited at least 30 minutes for a sandwich. Muffin was completely plain (we ordered a blueberry doughnut) and the doughnut was bone dry. We ultimately had to get a refund instead of waiting any longer. If you come here just get a coffee, don’t bother with the food.

Google
Nestled on the main drag in Middleburg, VA is this delightful quaint coffee shop. The Middleburg Common Grounds has great coffee and lots of outside seating to enjoy your hot or iced Joe while soaking up the morning sun. It’s also very dog friendly with water bowls and treats for your furry friends. The staff is super helpful and nice. The breakfast dishes are tasty but small and leave you wanting a little bit more. All in all, a great spot to grab your morning coffee. The vanilla latte was delicious and had me wanting to go grab another to go!

Google
All lovely, except the turkey and bacon had ONE slice of paper-thin turkey, and HALF A RASHER of bacon, which I found almost by accident after shifting to one side the Dijon. The other sandwich has so little tuna that even a tiny cat wouldn’t be happy. 🙀 I tipped 15% BEFORE the sandwiches were made - so I guess that wasn’t enough 😔

Charles Colby

Google
Surly service, long wait and disappointing food. The Tuscan tuna sandwhich on "whole grain" had no visible tuna and they substituted the whole grain with brioche without asking. When he asked if that was okay and I said not really, he just glared and did nothing to rectify the situation (different bread, free dessert or drink?). We ate the food because we waited 25 minutes for the sandwiches and were hungry. We are not going back.

Google
Stopped for coffee when riding through the area. My coffee and the bacon I ordered were very good. Very reasonably priced. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Great place to relax and talk over coffee.

Google
I like the place and it has potential based upon my observations. hence the 3 stars . I have tried this place 3 times now and my drink always came out fast without issue. So great job there! Pet peeve is that the tip is built into the POS app even for take out. There is no table service here so order and pick your stuff up. I am an over tipper but do not appreciate it being forced upon me having worked in restaurants and pubs many years ago. Food and food service is the major problem here. I ordered a breakfast wrap and received a wrap with spinach leaves. The prep cook was completely overwhelmed and had a very tight 24-36” work area. When you charge $$$ for an egg wrap make sure it is good. I observed quite a few upset customers during my 40 minute wait and many got something “close “ to what they ordered . Lesson learned is if they are super busy go elsewhere or just get a drink. Again I think this place is a gold mine just cannot handle “busy” times well. I’ll try again in the fall and update my review accordingly.

Yelp
It's a great place that's never let me down, and the coffee is to die for! It's also a fantastic study spot if you're ever in need. On my last visit, I had the caramel sea salt cookie, and it was fantastic. They're good at keeping the menu exciting!

Jennifer K.

Yelp
The people who work here are welcoming and kind. The store changes out their art work from time to time and I have purchased a few pieces. Also- their smoothies are so good as are their pastries.

Eilleen L.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop in a quant town an hours outside of DC. It was quite busy due to the Virginia marathon happening in town, the reason I was here, I was a spectator not the runner. It was pretty much the only place open early on a Sunday morning. Debated between a breakfast sandwich or pastry and I chose a lemon ricotta muffin. It was moist and not too sweet. They have a good selection of pastries and coffee drinks, even Girl Scout cookie themed lattes.

Michael N.

Yelp
Horrible food and service. This was the most pathetic avocado toast I've ever seen or imagined. I can't believe I paid for it. Avoid food here. Service is below average with attitude. Coffee is fine. Atmosphere is good. Food is HORRIBLE.

Rick R.

Yelp
Food is great, atmosphere is unbelievable and quaint and the staff and service is fantastic !!! Some of the best coffee in Nova !!

John S.

Yelp
We visited Common Grounds for breakfast and ordered bacon, egg, and cheese wraps. 20 minutes later, out came the tiniest wrap I ever did see. Two bites later, I'm still hungry.

Cynthia L.

Yelp
No frills, small town eats with really great service. For a weekday breakfast, we ordered: Bacon, egg & cheese on a warm ciabatta Hash browns - generously seasoned with salt and pepper Croissant - a little on the doughy side, but enjoyed that it was toasted. Portions were generous for the price point and service was fairly quick. If you're expecting foodie-level, you might not need to lower your expectation bar, but the vibes are all here.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Sandwiches were good and the ciabatta really was the star. They could probably season the eggs a bit more.

C T.

Yelp
Tasty wrap (gluten free) and iced latte in a lovely setting. Plenty of menu options for dietary restrictions.

Yelp
We wanted to get some coffee in the morning and this looked like the best spot for it in the small town of Middleburg. This place is located in downtown and parking is on the street. Upon entering you notice that it's a nice spot for the locals to come and hang out in the morning. It would be a nice spot to study or read a book with chatter in the background. We ordered a latte, avocado toast, and two build your own breakfast sandwiches. I got egg, cheddar cheese, sausage, and arugula. They serve their lunch sandwiches all day as well if you don't want breakfast food. The wife said the coffee was really good and if she was in town, she'd come back. The avocado toast was a bit too sour and salty. The breakfast sandwich was really good. The break was nice and toasted and had great texture. We were in and out fairly quickly. Would come back if we are in the area.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Great place in the heart of Middleburg inside and outside seating. The breve and latte were wonderful. The smoked salmon bagel was delicious and the ciabatta sandwich with sausage, egg and cheese was yummy! Very dog friendly! We'll be back!

Yelp
Common Grounds is a busy coffee shop, in the small town of Middleburg, VA. They had some really fun holiday decor outside. They had indoor and outdoor seating available, the inside seemed very dark, so we sat outside, it was a really nice 60 degree day in the beginning of January. We got their seasonal lattes, one was the Cabin Log and the other was Toffee. These were both so delicious, frothy and full of flavor. Toffee was a tad bit too sweet, but still tasty. We also got a serving of their avocado toast. This came on two thin slices of toasted whole wheat bread, with a thin and even spreading of avocado, it was seasoned with salt, sesame seeds, and lemon zest. The lemon zest on the avocado toast was really tasty and prominent. I didn't like how dark it was inside, and nothing had any prices listed. The lattes were delicious and the avocado toast was nice and zesty. I'd stop by here again if in the area.

Sharon H.

Yelp
I ordered a raspberry latte and for the first couple of sips, I didn't taste any raspberry, but it was sweet (but not too sweet). In actuality, the scent of raspberry is very subtle and is more noticeable in the after taste the place was clean. The interior is so cute as is with most places in Middleburg; they have really cute paintings and it has an old town kind of feel. Also the service workers were nice and I got my drink quickly! I will definitely come back to try a different type of latte in the future! It is admittedly a standard coffee shop, and its main appeal is the interior.

Nazhat S.

Yelp
Limited menu but the breakfast sandwich was tasty, especially the bread. Pastries looked good but the croissant was just okay. Wish they had a matcha latte on the menu. Staff were pleasant and the place has a locals vibe. Not the most comfortable seating and the bathroom was dirty, so one star off for that.

Tanina L.

Yelp
A nice place for coffee that is open on those off hours (ie mid-afternoon). Woody decor, good coffee selection

Leman C.

Yelp
Roast beef salad was delicious and hubby's sandwich was great. I love visiting Middleburg. It has always been given me positive vibes. I recommend this restaurant for yummy food and good service. Sitting outside is good if weather allows. Watching life flows. It's just great.

Bradley B.

Yelp
They are fantastic always friendly. Great place to just relax and enjoy the drinks. Staff is excellent.

Maureen F.

Yelp
Egg sandwiches were great. Place is small inside but there are tables outside with umbrellas. We enjoyed our sandwiches and coffees while watching the happenings on the main drag one Sunday morning. Great way to start the day!

Michael C.

Yelp
Went on a rainy morning. The coffee was great, latte was delish.... The yogurt with cherries and granola off the charts. The employees are friendly, and very efficient. Food and drinks came out in no time. The atmosphere is perfect for small town coffee shop. This is probably one of my favorite coffee shops that I have visited. Highly recommend. We will be back.

Aamir S.

Yelp
Coffee was lukewarm. The guy who greeted us, I'm guessing he was the owner, was very rude and condescending. I think he thought we were part of another group, but either way...not doing that again

Michael A.

Yelp
Very nice order taker. Followed by one of the rudest baristas I've ever witnessed. Yelled at both his co workers and a customer who simply wanted to know when his kid's chocolate milk would be ready. "I've got 27 drinks here dude, it will be ready when it's ready!" Nice. And to boot our two Americanos tasted like camp water. Really really bad experience

Helik S.

Yelp
Dropped in at 12pm for lunch at this conveniently located place with plenty of outdoor front street seating with umbrellas. Many menu items not available already and the place wad pretty empty. No substitute offers or sincere apology or care for that matter: part of indifferent service attitude you get. Compounded by an inefficient order and pay process. Things got better once the food arrived: fast, hot, and tasty delivered to us outside. We've eaten here long ago several times and had a very good overall experience and so we had high expectations-this visit was somewhat of a disappointment. .

C. B.

Yelp
Ambiance is cute and drinks are fine, but they're overpriced for what they are and be prepared because there service is very slow. For two drinks (one hot, one iced) we waited 15 minutes. I don't know if they need more baristas or a more efficient system but it's kind of ridiculous.

Ell A.

Yelp
Love love love this place. Visited Middleburg VA, breakfast and sandwiches were awesome with fantastic coffee. I cannot say enough about how nice the staff were. We had our 7 pounds little chihuahua with us and they made a most fabulous pup cup for him. Highly recommend this place for quick lunch or breakfast. We will definitely visit again. Dog friendly as well.

Joe J.

Yelp
Sorry we don't serve food he said. Kinda dumpy place stay away. Very rude people. Menu was poor and expensive but no food anyway.

Ed S.

Yelp
Great, quaint little place to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The "build your own" breakfast menu is simple bug good. Very cordial staff.

Dakota M.

Yelp
This quaint cafe was the only store open aroun 8 when I was headed out to a hiking destination with the family. It was very friendly inside and had locals that knew most of the patrons that walked in and their orders. The art on the wall is for sale and bares the price on the title sign. We ordered two sandwiches and a drink to go. The food came out in the order it was recieved and it tastes fresh! I was really happy they were able to add spinach and tomatoes (fresh- they cut it to order for us) to my breakfast sandwich. It was a wonderful meal for our hike in sky meadows! I would recommend this cafe!

Gae D.

Yelp
love the atmosphere of this place, the food is amazing love the breakfast sandwich on ciabatta! also got the avocado toast and it was fresh and delicious highly recommend

Payton D.

Yelp
Nice cozy vibe inside but weirdly dark lighting. I ordered a peppermint mocha that had very little chocolate or peppermint. My mom ordered a hot chocolate which just tasted like warm milk. My brother ordered a chai which was quite good. They have sandwiches to order and muffins and scones which looked pretty decent. Friendly baristas and cute space but disappointing drinks.

Alan A.

Yelp
The cafe has a cozy feeling and was clean. The doughnut I ordered was good. The double espresso tasted really bad. When I asked the barista what type of coffee she used she was unable to tell me. I would recommend to the management that when a customer tells them their espresso tastes bad you offer to re-make it or a different drink. I have a feeling this coffee bean is very low-grade. I don't think I'll return back for another bad drink, which is a shame because I drive past this place every day.

Ingris R.

Yelp
This is an a cute Little cafe on Washington Street. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of my sandwich. The tea was spot on. I was incredibly tempted to purchase the homemade pop tart but I am laying off sugar. The service was great. The young lady at the register took her time answering our questions. It's definitely a locals hangout and it was packed.

Klaus K.

Yelp
Coffee and food are tasty and well-presented; but service is very slow. Though it was during lunchtime and they gave us a heads up for some parts of our order; it took over 45 min for a few sandwiches; and 15min for a lemonade. The place is not the that big for it to be justified.

Lauren M.

Yelp
A lot of outdoor seating but food and coffee is average. Got a breakfast sandwich, blueberry scone and blueberry muffin. Black coffee and strawberry banana smoothie. Smoothie tasted like it was made from powder.

Kendal Ann M.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop that is always busy. Unfortunately there aren't a ton of gluten free options when it comes to grub, but if you love people watching and want to warm up or cool down with a cup of joe, this is a great option for you!

Dave W.

Yelp
We had a very pleasurable stay here as I was working and we were waiting to go to the red fox tavern nearby. The coffee was excellent, the WiFi worked and I got my job done! Life is good with WiFi and coffee!

Marissa D.

Yelp
A great comfortable spot to hang out! Dog-friendly, baby-friendly. Nice comfy chairs and cute, homey decor. It's a good place to get an affordable breakfast or lunch sandwich. My husband got a ham sandwich which he found to be basic but still good. I got a hot dog on a pretzel bun and asked to add sauerkraut, which was amazing. They forgot to put mustard on it, but quickly added it when I asked. The hot dog and mustard were good but not great. Pretzel bun was amazing, but I never met one I didn't like! We also got espresso drinks, which made us feel very lively. They had quite a few to offer. The bathrooms were clean as were the seating areas. Overall not a bad place to spend an hour or two!

Iris S.

Yelp
This is a review of the food, not the coffee. My advice is to go elsewhere. Slow and overpriced. I've never had a lamer sandwich in my life. Thin slices of toast with a few white beans and a sprinkle of tuna. I thought it was a joke at first, but no.

Merry G.

Yelp
The environment was comfortable and nicely decorated, but it was very odd and off-putting that there were no prices listed anywhere - - not on the boards nor on the printed menus. It seemed very thoughtless towards customers, as not everybody has an endless budget. The cashier was fine but seemed impatient, so it would have been awkward to ask her what every item on the menu cost. We ended up paying more than we expected, for small portions. The avocado toast was way too salty and almost soggy; it was more like guacamole toast, as there were no slices of avocados. The egg was rubbery, like it had been microwaved. The mocha smoothie was excellent, though, and the coffee good. We would consider returning for the drinks and to enjoy the relaxing vibe, but we won't be ordering food again based on the surprise-prices and the mediocre quality of the food.

Ian P.

Yelp
Come here for the food - pastries and muffins especially. Easily the best Apple Fritters I've had in ages. I have yet to find anything bad in the pastry case. Unfortunately there's no choice in selection on espresso. Most good coffee cafes today allow for a set or series on light or dark roast selections for espresso grind and shots. Nor does the cafe have any allowance for a well-meaning barista to dial-in grinds and timings to a specific variety. The only selection seems to be whatever is in the hopper of an automated machine; and I've found it usually to be an over extracted Italian roast. I'd love to see the owners rip out the automated machine, and drop in a good grinder and multi-head manual machine. For comparison, a drive down Rt 50 some eight miles, just beyond Gilbert's Corner at Brew Birds is a coffee experience worth the drive for.

Josh D.

Yelp
I stopped in Middleburg to check out a store which was closed for lunch. That's when I decided to kill some time and grab something to eat at Middleburg Common Grounds. I ordered a Reuben sandwich from the menu which doesn't list pricing and saw that it came out to a little over $13. I don't appreciate the surprise without seeing what the product looks like but that's fine--it's probably going to be nice and hearty. Wrong. I received a small sandwich with maybe three slices of corned beef and a small bag of chips. I should've taken a picture with a better angle but there was probably more bread than meat--the small bag of chips should give you an idea of how small the sandwich was in comparison. Complete ripoff. In hindsight, tipping at the POS just added insult to injury because there wasn't anything memorable about the ordering process or the food drop-off at my table. This small-town restaurant was pretty clean and cozy, but the value is New York City levels of ridiculous. Out-of-towners be warned.

Francis O.

Yelp
Great lattes , ok breakfast sandwiches but place is always dirty. They never mop bizarrely. Could be much nicer.

Jason S.

Yelp
Our Green Lizard bike group got caught in the rain on a ride and had to cut it short. We found the coffee shop on Yelp and met there to warm up. What a great spot! Loved the hint theme decor. The staff is super friendly and the coffee was very good. They are dog friendly too. This is a must visit.

Leinani S.

Yelp
Everything about Common Grounds is cozy and welcoming from the moment you step through the door. The aromas of good food and great coffee greet the nose as the warm woods and cozy seating arrangements provide an equally appealing welcome to the eye. Common Grounds is a microcosm of the Middleburg community, old friends coming together over a cup of the best coffee in town and new friends being made over a shared table, while children and pets are everywhere. If you want to know what's going on around Middleburg this is the place to be. There's no such thing as a stranger in this coffee house, everyone is welcomed biped and quadruped alike. Yes, your dog is welcome here too. If this weekend was anything to judge by, your pet is also as likely to come away with a doggie play date as not. Staff are friendly, service is efficient and the coffee is excellent. They offer breakfast and lunch dishes as well. A great place to while away a weekend morning and meet some local folks. Highly recommend!

Jane M.

Yelp
I love this place. Every time we visit Middleburg we stop here for breakfast. The outdoor cafe is perfect for dining especially in the middle of Covid. The food is terrific as well. Everyone wore a mask inside the restaurant. Staff was super friendly. Great bagels, the pastries looked fabulous too. We will be back again.

Patrick W.

Yelp
I'm not usually one to go through the effort to post reviews but the folks down at common grounds are awesome! I recently started going in a couple times a week for coffee after physical therapy in the mornings. Everyone is always super friendly and after the first week they all recognized me and remember my order which you don't always get at the big chain coffee shops. Coffee is always great and the foods awesome too! I highly recommend you stop in and grab a drink if you're in town.

David M.

Yelp
A small coffee shop in small downtown Middleburg. Food was ok. Latte had too much foam (more of a Capp) and way too hot.

Todd R.

Yelp
Simpl(y) delicious! Nothing fancy, but who needs that when it's this good. We went for breakfast right when they opened. Quick courteous service (order at counter and they bring it to you.) Everything was hot, fresh and delicious (Coffee, sandwich & pastry.

Daniel M.

Yelp
What a nice spot. Located in the heart of Middleburgh, there's probably only one Main Street in town. This place features indoor and outdoor seating. The interior of the place is small but warm and welcoming. There is a nice lounge area for you to seat alone or in the company of your plus 1 and enjoy a nice cud of coffee. There coffee is good! I enjoyed the capuchino which was actually made correctly. Bravo! The outside seating is pretty and welcoming. But you are outside so you'll face challenges such as the moving sun and the umbrella shade leaving out exposed to work on your tan. I even faced some bees! The flowers around the porch like deck is a nice touch. My bacon egg and cheese was sad. Remind me not to get that again. However the other sandwich I hade, was great! Certainly a nice place to enjoy some baked goods and a cud of coffee, inside or outside!

Nicole R.

Yelp
Perfection. Fantastic coffee and delicious muffins - Morning Glory to be exact. Which.. happen to be my absolute favorite. Lots of seating indoors & out - great location in downtown Middleburg and friendly staff. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. Try the espresso :)
