Lakeview’s Board Game Cafe Plans to Open This Weekend | Eater Chicago

"Opened Saturday as the new restaurant on the ground floor of the W Chicago—City Center following a large hotel renovation; replacing IPO Restaurant (opened in 2010), the Midland Social Club is full of nods to Chicago history, and chef Mark Powierski’s dinner menu includes neighborhood-themed dishes such as “West Town Pierogies” and “Taquitos de Pilsen.”" - Daniel Gerzina

Absolutely stunning set up and decor. Very esthetically pleasing to the eye. Although, servers were very attentive, breakfast was a hard choice. Pancakes or french toast. How do I choose? It always works out. I chose the brioche french toast which came with sliced pears, orange liquor syrup, whipped citrus mascarpone, candied almonds and a sprinkle of granola. It was a tasty, textural mouthful. My friend chose the ricotta pancakes; with bruleed banana cream, peanut butter powder and oat nut streusel. It was different, glad I chose the french toast. Bacon and orange juice was also good. I did make the server aware that one of my slices of french toast was burnt and tucked neatly under a slice that wasn't. She said she would let the kitchen know. I am interested in returning for happy hour to try drinks and appetizers.

Fantastic and convenient location! The food was delicious, and both Emmiko and Javiera took the time to get to know me. Javiera knew my “regular order” by day two and would just confirm it with me in the morning. Amazing service and a great team!

We are locals and came in to grab a drink. Decided to stay for dinner. Some of the best food we have had in the area! Really incredible quality. Service was excellent and ambiance was great. Will definitely be back.

Wanted to have a drink while waiting for our food to arrive and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The ambiance is very nice, and I like the idea behind it (shaped like a loop referring to The Loop). Every single drink we had was perfect. Sheryl, our bartender, said she created two of the drinks. I think she said Cloud Gate and Nooner which were actually my favorites. She was fast, efficient, and handled the entire bar herself really well! Great place to sit and have a drink if you are staying at the W or visiting nearby.

Yelp
Bartenders were nice and friendly, food was good- nothing out of the ordinary. Space is cool and modern, bar surface was lit up and fun chandeliers and funky couches.

Yelp
This is for my breakfast visit only. The Midland is located in the lobby of the W hotel which was across the street from the JW Marriott where I was staying while in town for a trade show. We had a party of 8 suddenly for breakfast and the JW was slammed solid. A quick Yelp search gave us the Midland Social Club and we literally walked across the street and they had one table for 8 available - so bingo. Wait staff got us up and running in short order with coffees and menus - the W has a very nice lobby / bar area - sort of reminded me of a church and the Midland had a constant stream of diners coming and going. Breakfast menu was pretty basic- all the usual suspects were represented. Our orders were taken and food appeared in a normal amount of time. Waitstaff was there the right amount of time with checking in and refilling coffee and water. Overall a solid experience and I would hit it again if the occasion arose. Prices were hotel specific - so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Good service - the waitstaff all work well as a team with one person doing clean up, one person taking the order and checking in to see if we needed anything and one person bringing out the food. Chill vibe with low pressure to order more than you might want. Great spot to grab a quick bite before a show.

Yelp
Ok, I just had a blowout at the DryBar next door, and I thought I'd stop in the bar for a drink afterwards. The double door auto opened onto an impressive underlie bar with a huge mirror backdrop in what I thought would be the W hotel lobby. The leather banquets and U shaped upper balcony looked like a place I would like you to hang out. It was only 3;00 on a Thursday, so the place was empty, but I sat at the bar and enjoyed a glass of Prisoner wine while I waited for my next appointment. Because it's a hotel bar, I'm not sure how buys it gets, but it's a way cool urban vibe. I'll stop by with the Mr sometime when we're downtown. Check it out!

Yelp
It is connected to the W Hotel. Service is wonderful. All the staff make certain you are well cared for. However, the food is just okay. During my stay I had breakfast one morning and dinner. The eggs Benedict first off was cold. The Canadian bacon is so salty. The potatoes are great. ($55 for breakfast. $10 orange juice!). Dinner was salmon. I did enjoy the mix of flavors, it too was expensive. I had a lemon drop and a glass of wine (again $25 for a very small glass of wine). Dinner for myself alone was $165, with tip. I do love the decor. It feels like a ver hip nightclub.

Yelp
Located within the W Hotel off Adams. Decorated nice and friendly servers. Came here after getting my hair done at the Drybar which is also attached to the W. They have Happy Hour 4-6pm. Offerings on Happy hour vary to include: Wings, Coconut Shrimp, Wine, and Cocktail of the day. I ordered Wings and my friend ordered coconut shrimp. The shrimp was good the wings smelled and tasted burnt. Midlands was gracious to remove. For cocktails, I got a Cosmo. My drink was really good but I opted for HH red wine to go with my smash burger. Burger was cooked just right. Plenty of Parmesan Truffle fries to share. So good. I would go back just for that burger. Cute place. Nice vibe check out if in this area.

Yelp
Inside the W Hotel -Midland Social club is super cute and inviting bar. During my stay at the W we stopped by to get drinks here every day and also grabbed some apps. Daniel the bartender was awesome and friendly and gave us recommendations on where to eat in Chicago. Solid food and drinks, friendly service, and chic decor.

Yelp
The lobby for the W Hotel used to be the absolutely hot spot. I mean, if you hadn't been there, did you even live in Chicago? It was the place to go for after work drinks, for a date night or just to check out the scene. But time marches on. They have reworked the lobby area into the Midland Social Club. At this point, it seems to be a landing area for folks who are staying at the W. There wasn't a lot of traffic and the bar seemed lonely (with just a few folks sitting around). I was head spinning so we did stop for a drink and a quick app. I did the bang bang shrimp which were excellent. But the vibe just isn't the same as it once was. Perhaps it will come full circle again.

Yelp
I come here often after work for happy hour as it's in the Financial District. They have a good happy hour menu. I come every time for their shrimp. It's so good!! Cocktails are good. In terms of crowd, it just depends. I have come and there are just a few of us sitting at the bar. And have come other times in which there is a conference being held and they are having a cocktail reception and you can barely get a seat. Also on Wednesdays there is usually a female playing acoustic guitar. Service is always always good. I have a few that I just love. They always are very attentive.

Yelp
Also known as the restaurant in the lobby of the W hotel. Decor is very lush and pretty and is located just off to the side of the lobby bar. Not much separation but it serves its purpose if you are staying at the W. The bar was never crowded and lots of comfy seating. We had eggs/toast for breakfast and the servers were very attentive and helpful.

Yelp
Disappointing. Drinks are decent. Maybe ordered the wrong food items but for a limited menu, everything should be top notch. Food order was incorrect up despite clarifying it twice. And part of it was never put in so ended up cancelling.

Yelp
Amazing !! !!!!!!!!! Definitely coming back. Hidden gem in financial district to try.

Yelp
Great spot (inside the W hotel) for a late night meal or drinks (good bar scene) as there's not much else open downtown. Smash burger is terrific!

Yelp
I thought it was awesome. Better than most lobby restaurants. Smash burger hit the spot. I liked the wings too. We ordered more after the first batch.

Yelp
This is pretty good looking new place inside W Hotel, with nice ambience. The service is a ok, but the food is mediocre. Didn't like bang bang shrimp at all, tomato soup could be better. The prices are too high for this quality of food. Heck, I prefer Pret a Manger next door!

Yelp
Ordered the B.Y.O. omelette. It came with a side of seasoned potatoes. Overall, the omelette was tasty with just enough of each ingredient and the potatoes were nice and crispy. Had a mimosa to drink (which was also very tasty and not too strong). Service, however, was slow even though there were no other customers. If you order bottomless mimosas, you'll need to be prepared to drink at least three to pay for it (pretty pricey). The ambience was nice, and the mural on the side wall is beautiful.

Yelp
Great food and drink was fantastic. However, service was slow. Ordered bottomless mimosas and had to get the servers attention for refills. Staff was not attentive.
