Best Breakfast Burritos in Portland | Eater Portland

"Dot’s Cafe has been a local favorite for over a decade, and its sister restaurant, Midpoint Food and Drink, shares many of those winning qualities, including an inventive roster of greasy spoon menu items. The breakfast burritos here come from the Midwestern side of the family tree, featuring both tater tots and ranch dressing. While they’re unconventional inclusions, the tots provide some welcome textural variation and the ranch acts as a zesty bechamel. The burritos cost under $10 and feature perfect heft for one-handed, relatively mess-free consumption. On a stretch of Powell that’s just getting more expensive, Midpoint Food & Drink offers a pretty good deal." - Ben Coleman

Was introduced to this hidden gem only about a month ago and I’ve already been back 3 times. I can’t get enough of the Potato Stacks. It might look like just a pile of everything, but trust me, it is absolutely delicious. You get your choice of hashbrowns or red smashed, and how you like your eggs. I opted for over medium and then obviously got it with bacon. But…that Red Gravy is the real winner. Oh man, it is so damn good. Paired it with a very, very good Bloody Mary and you’ve got yourself a fantastic breakfast. So far all of the servers I’ve experienced have been very kind and attentive. Location is tough, so parking is a challenge. But it’s very worth the walk down the street or wherever you can find parking. I highly recommend.

Google
Decent portions and overall flavorful, but pretty pricey for diner style breakfast.

Google
Good food with friendly service in good atmosphere. Crowded on Saturday morning. Prices have increased from online menu, about $3 increase in all the prices. Tea was disappointing, just a tea bag with hot water and cream. One of these days these places will learn to make proper tea. Overall a pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Google
I loved this little brunch spot. The ambiance was awesome. Good service and good food. The decor was an old fashioned diner vintage market vibe, and it was very warm and inviting and interesting. I loved that they had a lot of vegetarian options, including vegan sausage. If you are looking for a cute little brunch diner, this is the place to check out.

Google
Small venue so be prepared to wait depending on day and time, but the food was incredible! My parents and I go to breakfast every Sunday, I'm a vegetarian, they aren't. This place offer a lot of options for either, plus a strong Vegan menu. We all agreed the food was excellent all around.

Google
A favorite spot. Every time we eat here is a grand slam! Been coming here for many years. Boozie coffee for life! In fact, today was a particularly magical breakfast at the Midpoint. There were 4 different tables all celebrating birthdays! The patrons broke out into a rendition of happy birthday and we were handed chocolate cake shots. 🎂 What a way to close out my 30s and celebrate 40 w other birthday humans! Thanks Midpoint! Always on point! Love you!

Google
I’ve seen a line of folks outside of this restaurant for a few years now, off and on, and I’ve been meaning to try it. The atmosphere was very inviting, cozy and unique in its design and wall hangings. Our server was very welcoming and a pleasure to talk to. My problem with this restaurant is its menu choices. It’s basically a breakfast place that also offers vegan and sandwich options. But I could not find something I really wanted on the menu - which is pretty rare for me. I guess I was hoping for Eggs Benedict or chicken fried steak or maybe biscuits and gravy but they didn’t have any of that. I will say that their menu is unique and some of the seasonings they used were also out of the ordinary. And they had a wonderful hot green sauce on each table. I’m sure there are plenty of people that enjoy Midpoint’s selection as it is offering some different tastes that you usually don’t see at a brunch place. It just didn’t excite me.

Google
This is by far my favorite breakfast spot and I've only dined here twice. Love the cozy atmosphere, the food is fantastic (this is the only place I trust to properly season their hashbrowns) and the drinks are great. Highly recommend and looking forward to coming back in the future.

Yelp
In my opinion the best brunch in Portland. The best flavor, the best dishes and amazing atmosphere. Great service and the best vibe overall. My husband and I come here at least 1x a week and have enjoyed most of the menu. We always look forward to coming to Midpoint for every birthday and special occasion to start the day off.

Yelp
Midpoint was my favorite breakfast stop in Portland. The Bloody Mary's are fantastic and the food executed so well. It's in a little strip mall and the little diner isn't fancy by any means, but it's a solid breakfast stop. It was so good that we went two days in a row on our vacation. The staff was very friendly and service great. There's a small parking lot on the premises

Yelp
I've been here twice. The food is good and that's a good part of why you go eat. Good enough that I returned the following week with my friend. The service was really good, lots of coffee refills. On my second time there we put in our order at the bar, then two separate people came in and ordered after us. They both got there meal first. That's not a problem, maybe theirs was easier to prepare. Usually you get your order in 5-10 minutes. We got ours almost a hour after the order. I think it took 45 minutes for them to realize we we missed. And when asked what happened the question was ignored. Would I go back? Maybe. I have four other go to places for breakfast. I might give them another try and update this review. I dinged them for not catching the mistake when everyone was served at the bar before us and not let letting us know what happened. I should add that the first time I went there our food came out quite quickly. Maybe this was just a one off experience. I hope so. I may try them again and update this review. After reading a few other reviews I will concur that this place can be noisy though my first time there I didn't notice it as much.

Yelp
Oh. My. God. I am tempted to say nothing about this spot. I really considered it, because it is just that good. But I want it to survive. Come early or prepare to wait! On a weekend I was there around 9:15 and still had a bit of a wait. As I left, I saw it was much, much worse. The inside is cozy, dark, and eye candy - so much to look like. The food? You have to be freaking kidding! I loved everything I had. I had a hankering, so I ordered the chilaquiles. They were too good. Chips could have been less soft or more thick - a little more texture, one way or the other, was needed, but I still didn't leave anything behind. I also had a spicy Bloody Mary that was garnished gorgeously and too delicious to leave behind. Ever since, I've been plotting mu return to Midpoint for their meatloaf sandwich with horseradish sauce. That's the thing about this place - if they offer it, you are guaranteed that it is good.

Yelp
Solid classic diner experience. Some of their food items seem simple on the surface, but they execute them perfectly. There always seems to be just the right ratio of ingredients. This is a well known and popular spot in the neighborhood, and you can definitely expect a bit of a wait anytime on the weekend. They open at 9am, and by 9:30 there is usually a wait outside. They do have a good mix of booths and tables and counter space so they can accommodate solo diners as well as modest groups. Pros: great atmosphere, solid food, reasonable prices. Kinda random but I really appreciate the jam being in a squeeze bottle and not having to deal with low quality annoying smuckers packets. Cons: Small parking lot, and sometimes neighborhood parking can also be tricky. Slow service at times.

Yelp
I always enjoy this place! It is hopping, so if you do not arrive early you will wait. Their mashed potato stack is a very original way to eat a spud in the morning! It is a wonderful change from tired hash browns and country potatoes. Veggie and vegan sausage is available - yay me! They also have a variety of cheeses offered in their scrambles.. I had their egg scramble with veggie sausage, chèvre and red onion with the mash. The decor reminds me of the video game "Fallout" - old tin signs (advertising) and tables and chairs from a time capsule. The food flavors run deep - nothing feels plain here. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Yelp
My wife and I visited for the first time for my birthday this morning and had a really great time. We had seen some negative reviews recently about the server with light pink hair, but we had a great experience with her. Friendly, quick service. No complaints at all. I'm vegetarian and got the 52nd Ave stack with mashed and veggie sausage. Absolutely delicious. Also got some French toast cuz ya gotta live a little! So good. My wife got the Basic and really enjoyed it as well. Tasty bacon apparently! We just moved in up the street and are so excited to have found this place.
google avatar

Leah L.

Yelp
Monica!! She's amazing. The food is amazing as well. I recommend the 52nd ave with mash, my go to. The place gets pretty packed on the weekends so be prepared for a wee bit of a wait but It's worth it. Good food, great service, bloodymarys and mimosas. Absolutely love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little breakfast/ brunch spot in my neighborhood! Good food and good service! Rotating specials and a full bar too. I highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Wendy S.

Yelp
What a wonderful little breakfast spot. I had the downtowner scramble - spinach, carmelized onion and goat cheese - added bacon. Done perfect. Daughter has a potato stack and a coffee drink. Definitely recommend this place
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Love the food. Limited menu. Rather loud. I eat vegetarian and I crave their cauliflower breakfast dish. Will go there again and again.
google avatar

Marty H.

Yelp
Still as good as ever. Monica and her team know how to do breakfast and lunch. Expect a wait on weekends. Get there early if you want the chicken fried steak.

Linda S.

Yelp
I really like this place. The only reason I don't go there more often is because the music is soooo LOUD. If they would turn the music down halfway you could still hear the music and enjoy your food. I was going to go in for breakfast earlier today but when I opened the door and walked in, there was that horrible loud music again so I left. I couldn't even hear myself think.
google avatar

Chelsi Z.

Yelp
Phenomenal! My boyfriend and I ordered two farmers breakfast burritos, which was the best breakfast burrito we've had all year. We ordered a regular Bloody Mary and a Reaper. I was wishing I had ordered the reaper because it was delicious and not too spicy which I was worried about. They also had poppers on special for $1, which was the cherry on top! Servers were friendly and efficient. I would come here everyday if I lived closer.
google avatar

Kira B.

Yelp
This little diner spot had some of the best breakfast I've had in a long time! I got the 205 potato stack and my partner got the scramble that was on special. Every part was cooked perfectly, his broccoli was the perfect consistency, the hash browns were perfectly crispy, we both added caramelized onions that were so tasty! And it had to have come out in like MAYBE 5 minutes! The restaurant itself was gorgeous inside, nice and cozy feeling. The prices were more than reasonable, between the two of us we spent $44. The server was just the right amount of attentive, came by exactly when we needed her to. Overall 10/10 quality and all around experience.
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Eat here every time I'm in Portland and need breakfast. You may have to wait but its worth it. Great every time!
google avatar

Clare Q.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my brunch here! The staff was very helpful and our food was delicious. The potato stacks are where it's at (imho) and the red gravy is a must try. Only complaint is lack of espresso and that I wasn't a fan of their drip. Try if you must but I say get a coffee later. Will def be back and can't wait to try more options. Qapla'!
google avatar

Rummela G.

Yelp
It makes me so sad to leave this review since i've loved coming here but I was so put off with the customer service here today 3/24/24. I put my name down on the list at 12:23 and was still not called at 1:10 so I went inside and saw that my name was crossed off when they haven't called my name. I asked the tall person with the short pink hair and she was really rude to me about it. She rolled her eyes and said " i don't know what to tell you i called everyone's names" and walked away from me. I decided to walk away and this is the last time i'll ever be back here. Your food is amazing but please hire nicer people.

Yelp
Met a friend for breakfast!! Omg - our food & service was SO great! I ate every drop! I had a perfect Bloody Mary plus the Mt St Helens Potato Stack. Everything About it was delicious including the red gravy which I was skeptical about. Even the slices of toast & jam were so good. I wouldn't have minded if the Music wasn't quite so loud but it was tolerable. I'll def go back again & again! Oh - and the waitress was friendly, funny, fast.

Yelp
If you follow my reviews, you know that when our son, Michael, visits, we often explore new places. Two Sundays ago we hit Midpoint Food and Drink. It's humbly hidden just round the corner off of Powell. One of about 5 places in an unassuming, dog legged strip mall, it would be easy to pass by. The groups of folks waiting outside quickly dispelled ideas of "just another old time, meh brunch place". We just got in under the call for the 2:00pm closing time. Whew! I ordered and explored and savored the textures and tastes of the day's special deep fried French toast with blueberry cream cheese, whipped cream (the real kind) and berries. I didn't lick the plate because my husband was there. The bread was palm-sized rounds, soaked in vanilla French toast dip and then deep fried to a crisp delight. Between the rounds, a large quenelle of the blueberry cream cheese contrasted the crunch of the toast and was a bit melty but still cool, again contrasting the warm toast pieces. Unneeded but welcome, a dollop of whipped cream offered the sugar hit that made the syrup totally unnecessary. I didn't touch it. And the scattered, fresh berries added tang and brightness. All the food moans and sighs. Bill and Michael ordered different variations of the potato stacks. These were hash browns to perfection - you know, they're potatoey inside and golden (not old oil overly brown or inconsistently singed, browned, or barely crisp) outside. The other ingredients in the stack were deftly cooked to done. The chef obviously works to maintain the integrity of all the produce used. Excellent places have wait staff that authentically serve, show pride in their coworkers and in the food they produce. They make you feel like you belong. Check. Memorable places offer interesting specials that entice you to go down that road less traveled. And you're happy you did. Check. Places you appreciate are those that prize quality over absurd quantity. You can eat the entire serving without feeling like you could compete in a Miss Manatee competition. And prices are fair. Check. We will return and even talked about who we'd bring there - always a nod to how much we enjoyed it. Find your way to this Portland gem. You'll thank yourself and then you'll make plans to go back.

Yelp
Interesting eclectic old fashioned bar type restaurant. Loud Santana music , chef cooking in corner area kitchen can be seen, and tables and booths, with at the bar eating too. Food was prepared perfectly, Light and fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy upscale bacon, we both had the turkey type sandwich which had some cheese and garlic aïoli and mine had the Sriracha sauce, both were great!! They offer either mashed or hash browns for the side. Baby red potatoes mashed and fried. yummy. I would come and get a bloody mary and get some great eclectic kind of old-fashioned breakfast or lunch food. Enjoy
google avatar

Af R.

Yelp
Love it here! Their pulled Turkey is delicious regardless of which sandwich you get it on. Like the staff too. Just not a lot of tables so weekends are hit or miss on waits...
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Food is okay but the staff should not be leaving the bill when we're not even halfway through the meal. Don't care how busy it is, it's just not right.

Nicole J.

Yelp
This place is really great. It's family owned and ran. The staff are friendly and fast and the food is excellent.

George P.

Yelp
Such a good breakfast spot! The food is insanely good, music and atmosphere is on point for a weekend brunch, and the staff is great.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
I didn't think there were any hidden gems left in Portland. I was wrong! I met two old friends for breakfast here. The menu was fun and creative. The place wasn't crowded. It has kind of a diner/divey atmosphere, but that is not at all how I would describe the food. Food was fresh and fun. And the potatoes. Oh man, the potatoes. I usually have to think long and hard before rolling the dice on "home fries". Sometimes they are a fresh potato creation and sometimes...they are short and obese French fries posing as breakfast fare. Here, I can't remember the whimsical phrasing they used, but they used adjective to describe their potatoes I had never heard a place use before. Usually it's just "hashbrowns or homefries". Not the case here. Because I was on vacation I augmented my meal (I got a special, it was Mexican-inspired and very good) with a Snoop Dog...which is pretty much a grapefruit gin n' juice. It was great! Just go here. Especially if you're a tater-lover.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
$6 breakfast sandwiches and $2.50 for refillable Marigold coffee. There is usually always a wait for this place but we came at 9:20 on a Saturday and got seated in 15 min. Really great food, awesome prices, cute ambience, good service. Loved it!
google avatar

Kymbreanna A.

Yelp
Love love LOVE this place. Amazing food, drinks, and service. Worth the wait!! Get the Mt. St. Helens stack with a duck fart iced coffee.

Ariel R.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast on the way to the airport - cute little neighborhood hole in the wall place. Loved the vibe- the staff was all super friendly and speedy. The food was really good - I got the angry bird with mashed potatoes (yum!) and hubs got the mt st Helen's potato stack with hash browns- both were delish! The red gravy on the tater stack was really tasty! Drinks were good - spicy bloody (reaper vodka) and the mimosa. No complaints. Would 100% make this a staple if we lived in Portland.
google avatar

Oscar O.

Yelp
Such a great local breakfast spot and some very good prices. This place is definitely worth the wait and visit. Love the vibe and everyone was very friendly. Started of my breakfast with a nice mimosa. To eat I had the vegan stack which had cauliflower, mushrooms, roasted garlic, spinach, and fire roasted red peppers, served on top of potatoes, topped with Siracha tofu sauce, guacamole and green onions. I am not vegan and I would definitely eat this everyday. It's was delicious. They did a great job seasoning it because it had good flavor. We will definitely be back soon.

Ann C.

Yelp
Consistently great grub! Potatoes galore and the choices sing to my carb loving soul.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Love this place, a lil divey, food is great and inexpensive, nice selection of boozy brunch beverages, friendly servers. Although lately when I've come during the week they've been closed:(

Sadie G.

Yelp
yummy, unique, and friendly atmosphere walking distance from the Airbnb we stayed at.

Miranda T.

Yelp
Our server was so welcoming and amazing, and they have the best diner mugs in town if you're looking for some good drip coffee to go with your meal. Super fun vibe in the place as well--a great place to catch up with a friend and my personal top pick for hangover recovery.
google avatar

Kayrin P.

Yelp
Went to a morning graduation and left the commencement starving! My husband found this place and man oh man, it did not disappoint! Hubby had the corned beef stack special, I had the red eye gravy stack. Wow! Fresh, well made and delicious. Don't skip the hot sauce either. Absolutely fantastic breakfast. Thanks!

Ramiro C.

Yelp
Service is great, Monica, Violet. Food is delightful. Delicious and stick to your ribs! Divey at the bar, good music.

Nicholas H.

Yelp
Felt right at home. Dont sleep on the mash. Or the meatloaf. Had the corned beef special. knocked my socks off. Great vibes all around.
google avatar

Tanya F.

Yelp
this breakfast was so unbelievably delicious and perfect I started sweating. amazing. a miracle. I have a new favorite spot!
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
Simply put, this is my favorite breakfast/brunch Place in Portland. The food is consistently terrific. The service is top notch. The cocktails are great. And there's something on the menu that anyone would love. It's great for carnivores, vegetarians or vegans.

A B.

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots. It's small, so there's usually a wait on the weekends. The food is great (I love the Angry Bird) and there are a lot of tasty cocktails to choose from.

Katie K.

Yelp
Food was so good! Service was above and beyond. We had the St Helens stack which I would recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Kai V.

Yelp
So good! The jam on the table was even good. We ordered the fried french toast because wtf even is that? But it was really good. Also ordered the chillaquilles scramble was okay but i think chillaquilles made with fried egg on top is superior. My partner got the chicken fried steak which i liked a lot so i ate his food too.
google avatar

Aashna T.

Yelp
Midpoint is such a charming and unassuming joint with some high class and quality food. There is ample options for folks who follow a vegan diet and for folks who don't. One of my friends ordered their Bloody Mary and it was awesome. Definitely recommend. And all the staff were awesome and helpful! Love this place.
google avatar

Carmen C.

Yelp
Food was wonderful and service was fantastic! American bacon sandwich was so tasty! It's like a perfectly grilled cheese loaded with eggs & bacon! The vegan stack was also very tasty & filling.

Taline G.

Yelp
food was mediocre, way too expensive for how awfully bland it is. no flavor, we got burritos and there was no seasoning not even salt, their salsa was 2.50$ for the smallest measly pathetic serving. also ordered some of their cocktails and there was no alcohol in them. their customer service was also bad I was treated poorly and also their sour cream was watery aaf. I am beyond disappointed. we spent 50$ dollars for a trash ass meal. if I could rate -5 stars I would.

Jill V.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding breakfast!! I am so thrilled to discover this gem. I loved the eclectic "Portland Vibe" decor and the food was fabulous! The 52nd Avenue Potato Stack was delicious. It sat on a bed of crispy hash browns that were nice seasoned with a wonderful overflow of grilled cheese on the bottom. The mushrooms were delicious just on their own. The scrambled eggs were piping hot and a handmade sausage patty was sliced thin and not too salty. I really enjoyed their green monster sauce and homemade jam. I am excited to go back!
google avatar

Tekla N.

Yelp
This Portlandia brunch spot hits the mark with its eclectic decor and feel good vibes, its just the pitstop you need on your way home. The food hits the spot, so tasty and filling, with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. Nearly every menu item can be made substituting bacon/sausage for veggie sausage, and eggs for tofu. It's sure to satisfy all. The Bloody Mary is on point as well. We had to order another! We left content and happy.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood diner and my wife and I go often! They have imaginative specials that will satisfy your savory or sweet tooth cravings. The staff is wonderful and the "fork-mashed" potatoes are one of a kind. They also have a wonderful selection of breakfast cocktails and a full bar to brighten your morning.

Bella F.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time because we saw lots of vegetarian options. We waited about 15 minutes on a Saturday morning, not bad. Food was diner food, also not bad. What was bad was the service. From the get-go, the blonde waitress was needlessly rude and gave us incredibly slow service. For example, sat us, left without a word, then chatted with coworkers for about ten minutes before bringing us menus, gave me attitude when I asked for veggie sausage instead of bacon, brought my boyfriend's coffee when he was nearly finished with his meal, and was all around unpleasant to us. Normally, I would just write off this behavior as the server being in a bad mood, whatever. What upset us was that we could witness her providing cheery and quick service to literally everyone else around us. I have no idea what we did to piss her off before we even sat down, but we definitely won't be back.
