As a fairly recent transplant to Houston (5 years), I've generally be underwhelmed by "Texas BBQ." A recent trip to Salt Lick BBQ in Round Rock changed that, and I have an insatiable appetite for *good* Texas BBQ--and I'm glad Houston has something that meets me right where I need it now. Midtown BBQ is delicious. The spare ribs, loaded fries, and mixed greens all graced my plate and each delivered. The ribs were huge, tender, and meaty. The strawberry dessert and the Shipley's donut bread pudding--which I stole bites of from my fellow diners--demand a new level of dessert worship from this lowly human being. The woman at the table across from us had the beef rib and said it was absolutely delicious. [Unfortunately, the day we visited they were out of sausage, baked potatoes, and turkey. Apparently a large party devoured them all during lunch.]
There's a full bar and a decent beer menu. Parking seems sufficient for now--but I can't imagine it will be enough when this place really picks up steam. The outdoor seating is delightful--although I could do without the possibility of cigarette smoking while I try to enjoy my dinner.
