Surprisingly decent selection. You're not going to get any deals here, but a convenience/grocery store that empties your pockets is better than no store at all. They've certainly been a lifesaver for me multiple times. If you're in Brisbane and you're in a hurry, this is the place to go. They always throw away the receipt instead of giving it to you, though. What's up with that? Kinda shady, if you ask me.

It's been quite a few years since I quit smoking and haven't needed to go to Midtown market. We stopped by to buy a bottle of overpriced tequila, but we are pleasantly surprised to see that the store has improved tremendously. When the business was transferring I was really hoping a store like Dean's produce that specialized in healthy foods and vegetables at reasonable prices would have moved in, but instead we got a fancy Quickie Mart. Honestly this town needs healthier and affordable options rather than a convenience mart. Even at gas prices as high as they are it's still more affordable for me to drive down to Grocery outlet, Hacienda, Costco etc.

Google
Exquisite local grocery store! Some items are a little expensive while others are surprisingly cheap! The same bottle of liquor elsewhere is thirty or forty while here it's 19.95 while beit milk and soda costs a pretty penny. Whole foods like selection and service with a smile! Those guys are my guys, what can I say? From Gouda cheese to diet sodas they got it all.

Google
I think this market / deli store is perfect if you want a quick shopping done in this area. They have all essentials, and a vast array of beers, wine and hard liquor. Also - very nice service!

Google
So friendly! Manager, i think, asked what I want to see in the store. That he has several vendors willing to accomodate! Wow! This store is a short drive, but a very pleasant drive, after busy SF intersections. I am willing to return to enjoy more pleasantness & get fresh vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, even fresh bread loaves! Also, Thanks for Amazon locker- the reason I chose to come here!

Google
Awesome store. Their ice cream is great and it has the best candy in the world. A great place to go.

Google
Very convenient market if you’re not in the mood to go to a big grocery store and deals with long lines just to get in due to COVID-19 or if you need a couple items and need a place to run in and run out of this is the perfect place they never disappoint and they are open late. Highly recommended if you work in Brisbane and only have a limited amount of time for your lunch break. Never a long wait staff is always friendly great customer service

Google
For a little store, it has a wide variety of merchandise. The prices are reasonable considering this neighborhood store's convenience, and it has to stay open despite Safeway and Luckys being within a 10 mile radius. The employees are very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Brisbane needs this market. Located in the very small 2 block "downtown", this is like an oasis in the desert. A beautiful little market that is bigger than expected. It has nearly everything and it's well-stocked. Though it could come at a premium price, where the hell ya gonna go instead? I went late, 8pm, so the fresh veggies and fresh Acme bread stand was skimpy, and the meat/sandwich counter was closed. I can only imagine! Very nice service, too.

Yelp
Grew up in town when the Rossi brothers owned Midtown Market. It was a real grocery store in the 60s and 70s. Went in recently for the first time in years and it was more like a 7-11 with lots of liquor and expensive snack food. The guy behind the counter was sullen and unfriendly. There were lots of security cameras for a small place, too. How times have changed!

Yelp
This place rules. One of the best local markets in the Bay Area, I'd rather come here than head into the city. Super clean and a really big and good quality selection. I think any negative reviews are from prior management. This is a great market.
google avatar

Yelp
I go there for my girlfriend cigarettes. The place is clean, and the man behind the counter is friendly.

Yelp
I've popped into Midtown Market a couple of times now and was surprised at how nice it is inside -- not at all like an old-school convenience store. And for a small shop, the selection is really good -- they have a little bit of everything, from canned goods (including brands like Annie's) to high-end chocolate and even housewares. The prices are pretty high, though, and the produce section is relatively small. Also, the deli area seems to be closed at the moment. Note that the payment system at the front counter isn't exactly touchless -- on both of my visits, I had to sign a touchscreen with my finger. Ew! But that's what hand sanitizer is for, right? Bottom line: Midtown Market is a convenient place to pick up last-minute items and your favorite fancy chocolate bar.

Yelp
Brisbane is a food desert. For over fifty years there was a nice grocery store here. This is a high priced 7-11. We need a grocery store in this town.

Yelp
Best store in town. Wide selection of items and local artisans. Great customer service. Don't listen to those mean yelpers

Yelp
Update: The renovations are coming along nicely and the place is looking significantly nicer. The hours have changed to 6am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

Yelp
So a friend of mine thought it would be nice to bring me some junior mints (my favorite) . Unfortunately they unknowingly bought them at midtown market. OF COURSE they were SO STALE I couldn't eat them. I reached out to Tootsie Roll industries to find out that these were produced OVER A YEAR AGO, well past their shelf life. I couldn't count on Midtown Market to do the right thing and refund me. BUT Tootsie corp. did provide a refund and didn't like hearing that a local retailer was SELLING their old, stale, inedible expired goods.

Yelp
I am visiting and needed a few items. This store is very well stocked with anything you need. It has many gourmet brands, even artisanal bread! If I lived in Brisbane. I would frequent it often!

Yelp
Wow!!! this place used to be a dump. It was stuck in the 1970s. However, now this place looks great!!!! Fits in perfect with the area and is one local market I am all for supporting. Let this be a lesson to all small businesses. Just because you're a small business doesn't mean you have to be low quality. Midtown Market you are a model of what a local community market should look like. Welcome to 2020.

Yelp
Great neighborhood market. Very convenient and the store has been nicely remodeled. The store clerks are also very helpful and nice.

Yelp
This place is freshly renovated and looks great but the prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I went in to pickup a couple bottles of lemonade and an 8 pack of sparkling water because it was convenient. I was charged $24!! I didn't actually notice it until I was in the car driving away. How could you charge someone $9 for lemonade when it's $2.50 at other grocery stores? I get a slight markup due to location but that is ridiculous. Come to find out many others have had similar experiences here. Highly recommend going out of your way to get stuff at a reasonable price.

Yelp
This is a tough one to call. Everything is a little over priced and the quality isn't on par with stores a bit further away. Then again that is exactly what makes this store a good stop when it's the right time. No way should you be buying staples at fair prices and stocking your shelves with items on sale. The meats are on the rough side and priced up. The produce is adequate but not a shining a star. The beer selection is relatively solid. The wine options, all but absent in Brisbane, is solid but comes at a distinct premium. If you are cooking and lack a couple key pedestrian ingredients this location will bridge that gap. If you're cooking at an elevated level, buyer beware as you are likely to sacrifice quality ingrediets for get it done options. In my experience it really does get the job done at a core level. If you can get past the prices and quality it hits the mark to ride over in terms of ingredients to get a meal to comoplete. I don't love this place but I respect what it is and will come again if I'm in the same pinch. Side note, the staff isn't real helpful, but is on the friendly side none the less.

Bobbe N.

Yelp
I love Midtown since the new owners took over. I just walked down there with my dog and granddaughter. I needed fresh Italian parsley, shallots, cheese and a fresh, crispy sourdough bread for dinner. They had it all. Plus my granddaughters were each able to pick out a Hagen das ice cream treat! Perfecto.
google avatar

Lillian M.

Yelp
Thank you for taking this business over and renovating. Brisbane appreciates the better food selection and clean store!
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
The new owners are not only making renovations but generally adding value to the community by revitalizing this market.

Ess F.

Yelp
The price of a bottle of hand sanitizer is $19. I would prefer if the people working there work their face mask correctly (over their mouth and nose) while ringing you up.

Yelp
I really only want to give this place two and a half stars as I sort of have a love/hate relationship with this place. I grew up exactly one and a half blocks away from this market so it is full of childhood nostalgia buying comic books and cheap Made In China plastic toys. However since childhood, ownership changed to a Korean family by the name of Chu who have operated the market -to put it diplomatically- creatively. I personally like the Chus, but Mr. Chu in particular has been described as a penny pinching piece of work. The Good: The market itself is very nicely kept and maintained and convenient for Brisbane residents like myself. They actually (and this is surprising considering the way Mr. Chu runs the rest of the market) have a decent selection of organic products. Also, we thought it would never happen, but Mr. Chu actually put in a new freezer! Oohhh! Ahhhh! The Bad: Most things are over priced and can be gotten at a lower cost at most other markets. But that's the price for living in the hills of Brisbane and wanting convenience. Sometimes the most mundane of products aren't stock. No unsweetened baker's chocolate?!!? The UGLY: Check dates. Seriously, check dates! It is not uncommon to find foods in the frozen section six months to a year past the expiration date. Rumor has it that someone once recently found frozen burritos from 1986! So check the date to determine whether it's edible or collectible.

Yelp
Midtown Market has a decent (but sometimes incomplete) selection of goods. This is definitely the kind of place you go for items you forgot to buy when you went to the "real" grocery store. I would never in a million years buy meat, produce or wine here, however they have a pretty decent selection of beers (Leffe, Firestone, Anchor Steam) and condiments. They even have obscure stuff like Kimchi, oyster sauce, and other Asiany delights. Be sure to check the expiration date of what you buy because there's a good chance it's been on the shelf for a LooOOooOong time (especially if in a jar or can) and be sure to check prices because some stuff is INSANELY expensive (like Ice Cream, $10 a bucket, WTF!). Other than that, the staff is nice enough and they are open on all the American/Christian holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter.

Yelp
Sub par over all, customer service leaves much to be desired, and honestly what is that gawd awful stench in there? This place's mission statement can only be an insult to this gem of a city. People of Brisbane i think you do deserve better, don't you? Standard business practice is to provide a service deserving of the people's patronage flat and simple. Oh well next time my child asks for some lemonade on the way home from school and i dont feel like going out of my way I'll just go down the block to Julies from now on.
google avatar

Glenda G.

Yelp
This place is like a bigger 7-11 (they definitely price their items like one) with more selection and a meat market attached. This place is good for buying those things you forgot to buy at safeway or a last minute beer run. Definitely not a place to do all your grocery shopping at but at least there's a market in town.

Yelp
I've been frequenting the Midtown Market for 10 years. They're the only small grocery store in Brisbane, and I'm sure that monopoly helps them. However, they've got all the basics as well as a lot of eclectic organic stuff. It's not uncommon for them to run out of certain specialty items for weeks at a time. Luckily, if they're running low on a favored product, you can take it up to whoever's manning the store and tell them, and they'll go out of their way to restock it as soon as they can. I've even brought empty packages from my house and said, "you need some more of these!" It's true that the prices are high, but it's the cost of convenience and supporting a small local business. Yelper "Stuart Y" advised that you check expir dates on the products, and I'll second that. I've unwittingly bought stale cereal several times. All in all, better than "the only grocery store in town" needs to be, and I'm happy to patronize them. Note: Don't be the first one to use the cash machine in the morning! It almost always fails on the first few tries, and Mr. Chu will politely insist that you keep trying each time he futzes with the machine.
google avatar

Wilder G.

Yelp
Ugh, first the beer was 6 months past the expiration date (see photo), and now we get home with the parmesan cheese I bought here and there's mold on it (see other photo). WTF?!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Midtown is expensive, but in my mind that is offset by the fact that it is blocks from our house and covers most of the basics. Like any convenience store with low turnover, you have to pay attention to the expiration dates on things. But, I've also found amazing products there - Italian crackers, specialty olives. I have never had a bad avocado from Midtown and I buy them several times a week. There are also hidden gems in the wine section if you know what you're looking for. I keep a small stash of my favorites in their wine fridge behind some of the other lesser wines and nobody complains. Take it for what it is: Midtown is a great option for fast grocery items without leaving Brisbane and has a few interesting things if you're willing to look.

Carey L.

Yelp
I'm giving 5 stars just to bump up the overall rating because the new owners are doing a great job. Renovations look great. The selection is significantly better. I can get Oat Milk! And they are so friendly, at least to me. Maybe because I have a smile on my face every time I go in they are nice to me. I'm just exited to have a better quality place to buy groceries in my neighborhood. And it's great it's not a chain.

Kathryn R.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 5 stars because they have pickled pigs feet. I went in for some coconut milk and eventually found it, but not before spotting the pickled pigs feet! Yes, they're overpriced and some of their stuff is out of date but if you need something in a pinch they pretty much have it! And that's the point. It's not Andronico's or motherfuckin Foods Co. Thank you Midtown Market.

Yelp
I moved to Brisbane less than a year ago. If you live here, you are probably well aware that you have to drive 20 to 30 minutes to get to a supermarket. This is not too big a deal for me and other residents since they can easily pick up food at a convenient supermarket on the way home from work. But having a small grocery store within walking distance to where I live is a big help during times when you forget to buy milk for your cereal or even bread for your morning toast. It is what it is. Midtown Market fills a need that no other business is able to provide within Brisbane. I agree that it is expensive. But it's the one and only. Plus, in my mind, stocking organic food and other unusual grocery products helps make the prices a bit more acceptable. Customers absorb the cost of products that don't necessarily sell fast but provide great variety to make the customer experience a tad bit more interesting than, say, a trip to Lucky or Safeway. I have also experienced buying bread that is already expired. But you just learn to read the stickers more carefully before rushing to the counter to make your purchase. It does not claim to be what it is not. It does not pose to have the best service or products. It is a god-honest small grocery store that opens early and closes late, supplementing the grocery needs of its 3,500 residents when there just isn't enough time to run to the big stores.
google avatar

Urban A.

Yelp
This place is sort of surreal. It's famous within the tiny town of Brisbane for its eccentric, clueless operators, and its very kind, gracious and long suffering employees. Check the expiration dates on EVERYTHING. Ignore the stench of rotten underflooring and/or failing refrigeration, as you are inevitably there only for a convenience purchase of something you need in the moment. A convenience for which you will no doubt pay dearly for. I've personally experienced some of the worst customer service of the last 20 years there, but only from the owner himself. The deli section is operated independently from the store, and is usually a good bet. Ultimately, there is no other grocery option in Brisbane, and Mr. "I am the King" Chu, knows this.

Meesh M.

Yelp
If I could give this place ZERO STARS, I would. I've been living down the street from this place for 2 years and have given it MULTIPLE chances as it is conveniently located by my home... BUT I am never spending a dime at this establishment EVER AGAIN for many reasons. 1) Customer service is HORRIBLE! No one ever knows how much anything is at that store. They literally MAKE UP THE PRICES AT THE REGISTER. Who hires these people? 2) Speaking of prices, the products that do have a price are ridiculously OVER-PRICED! You're better off at a regular grocery store. 3) Their food is SPOILED!!! I've bought cheese that had mold, chips that were expired, a box of Oreos that were stale and avocados that was nearly rotten when I went to use it. You shouldn't have to look at the expiration date when you're shopping, but it's a MUST at this establishment. I have given this place so many chances and wanted to support a local business which is why I came back so many times, but TODAY was the last straw. --- I came to buy some ice cream. The total of my purchase was $4.97. I handed her my debit card and the cashier informed me purchases must be at least $5 to use a debit card. I told her to just go ahead and charge me $5. She said she could not do that, and she would get in trouble. IS THIS A JOKE????? They make up prices all the time and she can't change me another 3 CENTS??? Instead she made me purchase something else so I could use my debit card despite my logic of just charging me another 3 cents! So aggravating. That was my last purchase I'll ever make there. I've given this place more chances than it deserves. Sorry, Midtown Market, you've lost a whole household of customers!

Shirley M.

Yelp
I have nothing negative to say about this place, because this is a small town and I like living.

John S.

Yelp
Great local grocery store. I have used this place many times in a pinch, and so far have been happy with the service and selection. Super convenient to have a nice grocery store like this in downtown Brisbane.

Dolores G.

Yelp
Too bad Midtown can't or won't do sales, it might help Brisbane shoppers AND the owner? I suggested this to the owner, but he just smiled at me. Nice to have organic items, but they are very pricey. The meat market does a great job in catering to customers. It is a seperate business and is like the old fashioned meat market. The butcher will cut special for you. Seems as if the butcher has a good business in this store. YES, watch dates on everything, cause evidently they are not checked. AND wear warm clothing in the winter time, the owner does not want to turn the heat on. He even wears a heavy warm jacket. It is good to have a store in Brisbane, too bad prices aren't more competitive. The Rossi Brothers had prices so we could shop there and weekly sales. We miss them!!

JD D.

Yelp
This place is the only one available for many miles in every direction. The owner seems nice and was busy neatening shelves. Great produce, GREAT ice cream (mango Haagen das!) and HUGE wine selection. For the fact it's on the Main Street of Brisbane and the only game in town the prices were not gouging at all. normal in fact. Really awesome cheese selection too. It's not Whole Foods, it's a small market serving a small town. Glad it's here!
google avatar

Ken B.

Yelp
Wow. I love this place. Reminds me of my favorite neighborhood place in Hayes Valley (Nick's Supermarket.) They've got a little of everything. Household goods, spices, cereal, dairy, bread, lotto, wine, produce and meats. It's also not convenience-priced, either. I'm not saying it's a bargain but it's certainly not painful to shop here.
google avatar

Fayt T.

Yelp
they got almost everything you need, and customer service is great, love the employees here, just not that meat shop =P, and gotta watch out for the frozen items lol, otherwise there good =]

Maryann S.

Yelp
I wouldn't do all of my shopping here as it is too expensive. Make sure you check the expiration dates. The prices aren't always consistent (depending on who is at the checkout counter) but it is convenient if you run out of eggs or bread.

Maria M.

Yelp
Midtown Market is a family owned business in Brisbane they are the best. The owner and his wife are great friendly.Products in the store are great and always a good price. They have the best rolls in town and talking about fresh daily.(there the bomb) always stop by daily to pick up one thing or another and you find it there.Great for being a only grocery store in brisbane. The customer service is great too.Like Like Like this store.Mr Chew you are the best.

G P.

Yelp
The prices here are ridiculously high, and the selection is terrible. Also, the workers are rude. How is this place still in business?
