22 Must-Visit Culinary Pit Stops in Oregon | Eater

"The only dedicated gluten-free farm in Oregon, Midway has used techniques such as permaculture and eco-farming since its founding in 1998, before such practices were en vogue. The farm offers a CSA subscription, or you can stop by and make selections from the farm store’s cold-storage room, which keeps produce like green garlic, rhubarb, and sunchokes at the peak of freshness. Midway also makes gluten-free baked goods, plus canned goods derived from the farm." - Janey Wong

Google
I love being able to buy locally from Midway farms. I also appreciate they have so many gluten free options with baked goods. Today we were able to get fresh pressed apple cider, eggs, honey and maple syrup. There were plenty of other yummy things available but we just needed those few things today. Go check them out if you are able, or if you spot them at either the winter market or spring market stop by their booth.

Exceptionally friendly, told me all about their farm and organic pest control, got some great blueberries. Cute little shop with lots of local natural products.

Excellent local farmer with produce, preserves, eggs, flowers and more! Great to have them so close to both Corvallis and Albany. Check them out the next time you're driving by.

We absolutely love visiting the farm so my son can cuddle bunnies and pet farm animals. We also love the produce and meat selection.

These guys have the best fresh, organic lettuce in town, plus lots of fresh organic veggies!

I am so in love with all their produce, especially the plums and grapes. I've only been to the farmer's market booth, and am looking forward to visiting the farm. I am going to cry when the plum season ends!

Yelp
Beautiful farm!! Incredible May Day festivities here, delicious food and vegetables farmed fresh from the garden and not to mention, Incredible hosts! So greatful for this community! I can't wait to come back again and again!

Yelp
I got sick from eating canned beans from her rusted canned vegetables (lids were rusted and beans were almost gray in color). Prices are high for the quality of food. This place needs an inspection from the health department. Items in the fridge not date-labeled.

Yelp
We stopped by and had a great experience! The berries were delicious and the owner was really sweet! We got to hear about their farming practices and appreciate that they are environmentally conscious! We heard that they have sangria Sunday's the first Sunday of every month and belly dancing on Monday evening!

Yelp
So cute! And it's fun to see all the fresh products they have! I would recommend going there to see the animals too.

Yelp
I've been to this farm a few times since I've moved to the area. Their selection of veggies are limited, but the produce they do have is mostly of great quality. I went yesterday and purchased some beautiful beets with beet greens, garlic scapes, raspberries and honking huge blackberries. Are the prices higher than what you would pay at large chain grocery stores? Yes, but they taste a lot better, too. How many times have you purchased berries from the chain grocery stores that are bland and flavorless? We'd also have to compare these organic produce to the organic produce at the grocery stores, as well. Organic produce isn't much cheaper and the carbon footprint is much larger. The produce at Midway farms are local and organic. It really can't be compared. I can't speak to the comparison to other farms around town though, since I have not been to other ones. I'm really excited for their CSA program here. It is year round. You basically get a 10% discount by paying $200, you get a credit of $220. You are able to use the credit to buy what you need in the store and it isn't limited to just produce. For me, I live in a single family household. Previous CSA i've participated in give me a box of produce weekly (or bi-weekly). It never worked out well because I'd have trouble consuming it all before the next box or it would not be as fresh (bi-weekly). This option allows me to get the produce I need/want and I can also get farm fresh eggs or fresh milk.

Yelp
This farm store is truly a gem! Not only do they have a great selection of fresh produce, but also many other food products along with a fun, eclectic mixture of gift items. And of course there is also a variety of quality plants to choose from. The staff is always friendly and helpful, making it a great experience to shop there:)

Yelp
Midway Farms is such a delightful place to visit! The farm store is so charming! I stopped in the other day for some salad greens, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had some freshly picked strawberries available! I bought 3 pints, and they were devoured by my family within a few hours. Delicious! I'll have to go back for more! I love their wide selection of jams and gluten free baked goods. I am grateful to have a local source of delicious treats and fresh produce to feed my family.

Yelp
Stopped by a while back because they always had a live cow tied up out front mowing the grass for them. Plus, being a brewer, they had hops growing on their outhouse... Though the selection is somewhat limited, it is in tune with the seasons and the geography. It is fresh and mostly organic from what I could tell. The staff was super friendly and had lots of time to help.

Yelp
Cute, but pricey. Midway farms, housed in what appears to be an old barn, is the prototypical farm stand, selling local produce, jams, meat, butter, and eggs, as well as an assortment of granola-ish beauty products and some knick knacks. Come to think of it, fresh produce seems to comprise just a small portion of their inventory (at least when we visited in mid-July.) The produce, what there was of it, appeared fresh -- though the prices were significantly higher than you'd find in Safeway or area farmer's markets. The woman staffing the stand was friendly and answered all our questions. I was particularly delighted to see a self-serve fridge outside the old barn, with wares for sale and an honor system jar to collect patrons' payments. We enjoyed our stop at midway farms, but, given the high prices, our very small desire for designer organic jellies, and our nonexistent desire for additional knick knacks, we purchased only a small amount of chard. We were happy with the chard, but we probably won't go out of our way to visit again.

Yelp
Midway Farms is an incredible, biodiverse, organic & sustainable farm that has the YUMMIEST gluten-free baked goods and produce! My favorite jam of all time (Ginger Quince) is from Midway Farms and so is my favorite sauerkraut(s), and every time we go we always find amazing produce, meat, honey and dairy products. I'm not gluten-free, but my mom is, and this place is a dedicated gluten-free facility, so it is completely safe for celiacs! They also have a farm experience day camp for kids which seems like the cutest thing ever (and simultaneously the most fun and informative day camp ever). This place is definitely worth a stop, and once you do, you'll keep coming back for more.

Yelp
Many years ago, I was looking for a local farm where I could buy organic produce, and eggs from grass fed chickens. An investigation on the internet resulted in a lead to Midway Farms. I visited the farm and had a lively conversation with Cynthia Kapple and her son. Cynthia was so passionate and full of information about nutrition and sustainability, that I have been a weekly customer of Midway Farms since. One thing that is not obvious to the first time visitor is that Midway Farms is as much about education as about providing tasty and healthy food to the community. Summers at Midway Farms are busy with camps for children. Several evenings throughout the year are scheduled for tasting various foods, cheeses and wines from other local farms and producers. I am constantly amazed at how Cynthia has taught her family to care for the soil, grow and prepare food, hunt for and identify mushrooms and understand animals. Before they make their way to your table, the chickens and ducks run around eating insects and organic food scraps. Cynthia has taught me about gluten free food, and any other nutritional or farming tidbit that I want to take the time to learn. Prices of food at Midway Farms are sometimes more than at the grocery store, but often less than those at other organic food stores. Understand, however, that you are buying food with vitamins and minerals the way they were meant to be eaten, and the way it was meant to taste. This comes with a warning, though. If you start eating this tasty food, you may get addicted! You will know that is the case when you visit a restaurant salad bar and wonder what happend to the vegetables to make them taste so bland. I highly recommend Midway Farms. Bev Loos
