Midway Steak House

Visited this place to order funnel cake on a November board walk. The Funnel cake came out to 9$ and in less than 5 minutes and of course with no wait times or long lines. We said less sugar, so it was the right proportion. The funnel cake came out very good with crispy on most of the outside and soft inside. They do have lot more options, but we just ordered the Funnel cake. The staff lacked enthusiasm but it's reasonable during an off-season !

There’s no denying the nostalgia. I grew up coming to Seaside Heights when the boardwalk was alive with families, energy, and that unmistakable Jersey Shore vibe. Midway was part of that rhythm... but now its overrated and overpriced . I get the tradition of the sausage sandwich, but at nearly $13 it should at least taste like something. It was a bland, under-seasoned sausage with peppers, onions, and red sauce that somehow managed to skip the salt and any real flavor. It’s not even about being fancy, just make it taste like someone cared. ATP it feels like you’re selling memories. Whoever still insists this is “amazing” either hasn’t eaten off the boardwalk in 20 years or has no tastebuds. Seaside Heights needs a refresh and so do the food options . The memories are still here but the creativity shouldn’t be stuck in the past.

So sad to see what this place turned into! ☹️👎🏼 After scraping off old meat that had clearly been sitting on the grill for a while, I asked if that in fact was all the meat in the sandwich (because it didn't even cover the bun)... he said he could give me extra meat.. for $26!! Lol.. explain the math Midway owner... charging double while not providing another bun, another serving of cheese, no additional additional peppers, onions, and sauce!?? After asking a different older gentleman if that was standard practice to charge double for additional meat, he went on to explain about the costs of doing business, to which I replied I also went to NJ schools and college and if you want to break down the costs of 2 entire sandwiches vs just slapping one more serving of mystery meat on the original/same bun clearly would be significantly less product/material than making 2 complete sandwiches... he then went on to blame it on the buttons! (on the register.. 🤣) Omg... thank you Midway steakhouse for reminding me why I moved out of NJ 30 years ago. It was probably Devine intervention. When you learn how to re-program "your buttons" to charge your loyal customers every single summer approx 3-5 times per week (for 10++ years) and having brought another 1000+ customers to your establishment, please update this review and I will talk with G** and ask him to reconsider allowing me to come eat your overpriced, processed mystery meat topped with space cheese, and the disgusting grease your nasty meat was drenched in. 🤢🤮 Until then, thanks for the memories. 👍🏻

Haven’t been here in years, but took a ride down the other day to get a sausage sandwich. Still one of the best sausage sandwich around. Never disappointed, still the Best. Everyone I know that goes to Seaside hts always stop to get a sausage sandwich.

I recently visited a restaurant named Midway, and I had a mixed experience. The cheese balls were absolutely fantastic – crispy on the outside and perfectly gooey on the inside, with a rich, flavorful cheese that melted in your mouth. They were definitely the highlight of the meal and something I would highly recommend to anyone. However, the cheesesteak was quite a letdown. It lacked the robust flavor and tender texture that you'd expect from a great cheesesteak. The meat was dry and overcooked, and the cheese didn't have that creamy, melted consistency that makes a cheesesteak special. To top it off, the meal was quite expensive for what I got, which added to the disappointment. Overall, while the cheese balls were a delightful treat, the cheesesteak left much to be desired, especially considering the high price.

This is my new favorite spot for a cheesesteak. The sauce alongside the cheese makes this a must have on the boardwalk.

I make a trek down from Bergen County every year for a Sausage, Peppers and Onions. Amazing 😋

10 Year update & after trying all the various competition over a two week period Midway once again stands out as the best of the lot. hand down the best steak or sausage sandwich on the board walk. They are THE ONLY PLACE that does not mine the steak up into mini bity pieces and leaves it whole the way it was intended. Plenty of toppings offered and the lemonade is still the go to here! Glad to see they earned the #1 spot in my opinion once again.

What a horrifying experience!!! Ordered a Cheesesteak and a Soda $17.00!!! Thus was the absolute worst subpar piece of food I've ever received. The cheesesteak was basically Steakums with are you ready? A cheese spread sauce !!!also the peppers and onions had zero flavor. Prices are cheaper in NYC. The service is cash and go find a bench with the seagulls who BTW stole the half of my Cheesestank that was going to be thrown in the garbage. Lol lol lol STAY AWAY. Better places within walking distance

Best cheese fries ever. Been coming here for as long as I can remember and cheese fries are pretty much all I get. I don't come to Seaside like I used to but anytime I'm here I come here for the cheese fries!

All these years going down the shore I never had Midway Steak. I've been missing out . The cheese steak was so good!!!! It really hit the spot. I have never been a fan of Oreos but I decided to give it a try and it was delicious!!!

Okay so...Midway Steak House. You know it, you love it, it's a staple in Seaside. I do agree with fellow customers that, over the years, the quality has kind of dropped, particularly in the sandwiches. Still, I can't bring myself to give it any less than four stars because it's legendary. And, if you get one thing from the menu, get the french fries - they're hand cut and absolutely the best thing on the menu. What I love about Midway Steak House is the unapologetic 'branding' for Seaside. You see the familiar yellow sign and bright lights as a beacon on the boardwalk. So many people use it as a landmark to meet friends or their dates. It's just classic Jersey Shore at its best. So here me out. Yes, the quality of sandwiches - particularly the cheesesteak - has certainly ebbed and flowed over the past few years...BUT. If you are buzzed after an evening of bar hopping on the boardwalk and you're just itching for something greasy, nothing hits the spot more than a Midway Cheesesteak. If you drink enough, you won't notice that the sandwich isn't as stuffed as it used to be. And, not to repeat myself...but seriously, get the fries. They're amazing, probably the best thing on the menu. Bottom line - try this place at least once and if you're so inclined, compare it to the other cheesesteak places in the area. And once you've realize this place for what it actually is (a non-so-gourment stand on the boardwalk), it becomes so much better.

This is a great little joint and don't let the appearance fool you. They have awesome sausage sandwiches. The service is fast and friendly. I always stop here when I am in Seaside. I've never had a bad experience here. The smells will make you crave one of the best sandwiches on the boardwalk. Trust and try, you won't regret it.

Jersey Shore Favorites! Yum sausage peppers onions on a hoagie roll. Cheesesteak. Delicious. This is right on Seaside Heights Boardwalk.

Midway is a staple on the boardwalk and although they give you the BARE MINIMUM of meat on their tiny roll , the name and location and amazing smells attract people from both ends of the boardwalk. I must admit the flavor is there but the price for the size sandwich you get is almost comical. I get it though ... tourists... money...summer... do your thing. If you haven't tried it I suggest you do to see what history and flavor they bring to the table but this isn't a place you go to u less your desperate and your kids won't stop crying and screaming that their hungry. I think that 3rd star goes to their lemonade ... that i will always buy!! The best bargain is the sausage and pepper sandwich !!! It sure does smell good though

Midway is the first place my family stops when we get to the Boardwalk in Seaside. The amazing scent catches your nose from 50 feet away. The taste the same as I remember from decades ago. I get mine with peppers and onions, cheese and sauce. I almost always drip the combined juices on my shirt. Its worth it. I think the rolls have gotten smaller and they use less meat but they're still $8. Totally worth it for both how good it is, and for the nostalgia. Don't forget to get a lemonade, complete with half a lemon and gritty sugar in the bottom. Its a delicious tradition.

Great food spot on the seaside heights boardwalk. Had the cheesesteak and sausage sandwich. Both are classics. A very nice tasting sandwich while walking the boardwalk in summertime or anytime of the year.

I've been dying for a boardwalk steak sandwich for a long time and I always remember enjoying Midway. Went down to the boardwalk today we did not have to wait very long I was greeted by the workers there and they were very friendly took my order and brought my sandwich out quick. I ordered a steak sandwich with peppers and onions and light tomato sauce. The sandwich was terrible. The meat was flavorless the sauce was flavor list and so was the peppers and onions. I didn't know you can screw up a steak sandwich but they definitely did. Probably will never go back to have a steak sandwich there again

*UPDATE* 5/26/2021 Never eating here again. Was served a "pre-cooked" steak that wasn't cooked @ all. It didnt even have any grill marks on it. Was pink & all three pieces were still stuck together.( it's frozen steak with three pieces together between wax paper. It was utterly disgusting. I got gastroenteritis from it & was sick for two weeks. Extremely disappointed as it's been my go to place.

THE SAUSAGE SANDWICH OF ALL SAUSAGE SANDWICHES. Wouldn't pick anywhere else as far as Jersey Shore boardwalk sausage sandwiches go. It is the BEST taste wise, and the sauce/peppers/onions...I'm drooling while typing. This is a staple on the boardwalk, smack dab in the middle. Cheesesteaks look great as well, though haven't ventured outside the sausage realm yet. Try it today!

Got to Jersey this weekend and had to go to Seaside for my sausage and pepper fix. My go to spot is Midway. I know there are many other sausage/steak stands on the boardwalk and like everything, they've changed over the years but Midway brings back memories of days long gone.

I was born and raised in Toms River and Midways was part of every summer growing up at the shore. Now living in Florida I've always made it a point to go to Midways for my sausage sandwich. However, I've heard that there's new owners, which makes sense because the hoagie was very different and not for the better. Also, the sauce was noticeablely different. My guess it's now jarred! I'm extremely disappointed because Midways is synonymous with Seaside Boardwalk and "summer at the Jersey shore". To the new Owners, "For the love of God, go back to the way it was before you bought a landmark and destroyed every individuals Jersey Shore summer memories!"

Last time I was at Seaside Heights, I heard that Midway made the BEST cheesesteaks on the Boardwalk. So I hopped over to try it. And I was severely disappointed. The cheesesteak tasted super greasy, and the meat was flavorless. Felt like I was eating a bunch of oily bread. Also, their lemonade is way too sugary and sweet to the point that it is not enjoyable.

My friend had the cheeseburger and said it was good. We shared the cheese balls in hope that they would be better than the first time we tried them at steaks unlimited and they were SO much better here!!

The food was terrible. I'm sorry to say everything was overcooked and dry except the raw onions on the cheesesteak. Chicken fried for crunchy and dry. For what we paid I wish i just did a sit down dinner. I didn't bother telling them just threw out our food and kept it moving

The food was disgustingly undercooked and not a single person had gloves!!!!!! The man was touching his nose and mouth and touching the bread! Absolutely DISGUSTING! The meat was shiny while it was on the grill!!!! How this place passes any inspection is beyond me!!!

So disappointing. This has been one of our favorite places to stop and eat at the jersey shore for at least 20 years. Where do I start. The meat was so tuff and grisley. The cheese was horrible also. Fist time ever that we threw it out after 2 bites. What a disappointment. I don't know what happened to that place but it's definitely not a stop anymore when we come to the boardwalk.

The only place to get a sausage sandwich. I have become a sausage sandwich snob. I don't care how long the line. It's the best anywhere and best on the boardwalk. Get the works but be prepared it's a bit messy but oh so worth it.

Midway Steak house is right smack in the middle of the Seaside boardwalk. It is also open late night as we came here after a night of fist pumping at Karma. Midway offers a whole slew of late night comfort foods, but ignore the entire menu and order the cheesesteak. It is absolutely incredible. The bun is lightly grilled, steak and onions added, and then slathered with a delicious layer of cheez whiz. We also had to try the cheese balls which were yummy as well - they are essentially like fried mozzarella sticks, just in ball form. Definitely ask for the marinara dipping sauce as it doesn't come automatically. I hear the sausages are best at the end of the season as they have a couple of months of flavor (grease) on them. The place is packed, but the lines move quickly and efficiently. Awesome location, great prices, and perfect drinking food!

OKAY, I haven't eaten here since 1987!! I worked here for two summers, 1986 and 1987 with a bunch of Irish guys. The manager's name was "Jersey" Joe Kazuba (sic). It was pretty hard work and long hours but I was 21 and having fun. Anyone know anyone from that time?

Midway Steak House 500 Boardwalk Seaside Heights. Where is the beef on the cheese steak. Sausage setting to long in the sun. Price of food on the menu should be lower. Please change fryer more often.

Another place on the boardwalk that doesn't like up to it's hype. People always tell me oh you HAVE to go there. Well I did and I was full of regret. The cheesesteaks are average at best and incredibly sloppy. There wasn't much flavor either. You need about 40 napkins to keep everything off your clothes and hands. I would maybe try something else next time but not the cheesesteaks.

Midway probably deserves 3 stars for the food, but I give it an extra bump for nostalgia. I do remember the cheese steaks being better back in the '80s and '90s, but I still go here every time I'm on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. The French fries were pretty awful, by the way.

So disgustingly gross! Nothing like what it used to be in the 1990's. Mexicans own it and they don't know what the hell they are doing. The cheese steak is awful. The cheese wiz they use is so salty that you can hardly taste the gross meat they call steak. What a disappointment. You're better off going to 1 of the many pizza places you walk by to get a sandwich. Will never give these people my money ever again. Damn.... what happened to Seaside? Such trash.....

Cheesesteak, fries w/vinegar, lemonade is a summer staple. I hope they never change the way they do things Midway is a nostalgic yearly stop for me always introduce all of my friends and family that visit

I have been coming to Midway for at least 40 years . I was just there with my family and was very disappointed. I had a hot dog and the bread was very stale, I only ate the hot dog and threw out the bread. My son's sausage sandwich was also subpar the sauce was the not the usual homemade flavor; it tasted like from a jar. And the roll was stale and sausage was the not usual Midway quality. Sooo sad.

Favorite for 40 yrs. Still great. Get the sausage with everything. Great fresh lemonade. Still the same as when I came here as a kid.

found hair in my food, wouldn't refund it. Won't be back again. Gave us a lemonade, wow thanks. Now I can throw up with lemonade in my stomach. I would've taken a photo although they threw it out. The hair wasn't mine either, it was black.

This place used to be one of my favorite cheese steaks on the boardwalk, but after my last experience I won't be going back. Got a regular cheese steak with peppers and onions. First bite and there was something chewy, that I thought was paper and pulled it out of my mouth i think it was the skin to an onion. The rest of the steak was just terrible the meat was tough and chewy. Not sure if it was just severely overcooked or they went with a cheaper meat provider, but it was literally the worst cheese steak I've ever eaten.

Best Balls on the Island! Cheese balls that is....we make sure we stop here multiple time every time we visit Seaside. They have the best food, and the best employees. Have I mentioned how amazeballs the cheese balls are? Sausage is great, Limonada is great. Thankful that Sandy didn't take away our #1 boardwalk food stop!

Best sausage sandwich ever. If you come to Seaside, you must eat here. This a childhood favorite and staple in many people's opinion of the Seaside Boardwalk. Forget eating at any of the other million places on the Boardwalk. Go here. Sometimes when I visit NJ I drive to Seaside just to eat at Midway (and get good salt water taffy).

I've been eating these cheesesteaks for around 25 years. I love them. I never, ever had a tough piece of steak here. I get it with the works.....sauce, cheese and peppers and onions. A gooey, tasty mess. One of my favorite things about sleaze side heights. The sausage and peppers are good too!

This place blows. Absolutely GROSS. The "steak" was as tough as a piece of cowhide. They don't even use real cheeze whiz- if you're going to do it Philly style don't skimp out on the good stuff. The cheese balls?! Only decent thing, though the cheese filling is a mystery. It's supposed to be mozerella, but it's some fake cheddar business. And lastly, marinara sauce- do without it. It's just a nastier version of the sauce made by Chef Boyardee. Just simply GROSS!

For my 200th review, I choose MIDWAY!! Being a native to this area, I don't frequent the boardwalk. It takes a LOT to get me there. BUT WHEN I DO it's MIDWAY for sausage and peppers and a lemonade! I dream of those crispy sausage and perfectly fried peppers and onions atop a soft bun and a scoop of tomato sauce to liven things up. And the perfect hand shaken lemonade to wash it all down with. If it wasn't for Midway, you'd NEVER get me to the boardwalk! Thank you for 34 years of feeding me sausage and peppers!! :)

The smell will always draw you in! I don't even like sausage very much, but the smell of their sausage sandwiches always entice me to get one. Their cheese steaks are pretty good too - mainly because they use the fake cheese-whiz stuff MmMmMm. And their sugary-sweet lemonade is awesome. Sometimes I'll stop by just for that. In truth, the food is okay, but nothing over the top-special. I think its a mix of the salty air, hot sun, and awesome smell that hypnotizes people into loving the place so much. But with that said, I won't buy a cheese steak or sausage sandwich anywhere else on the boardwalk - they definitely have the best on the strip. I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could, but because I think I'm nice I'll round up to 4

Ive been to philly a bunch of times and had alot of cheesesteaks there and midway is just as good as any cheesesteak in philly they are incredible eveytime i go to seaside i have too get one and you will find yourself craving one when your not there so if your on the boardwalk get yourself one there fantastic

Ahhhhhhhhhh! The Seaside Heights Boardwalk!! Kohr's ice cream stands, Three Brothers Pizza, Funtown Pier, and Casino Pier! But nothing says Seaside Boardwalk like Midway Steak House. No matter how far you are away on either side of the boardwalk, you can still see that wonderful sign spinning and tempting you to come closer! It is also the answer to all children's prayers on the boardwalk. Moms and dads know its OK to let the kids roam as long as you are back at Midway by XX:XX time. And on top of all this, the food is great. The sausage and pepper sandwich is a must have, and I get it EVERYTIME I am on the boards. The fresh squeezed lemonade is also amazing. I do not often get fries, but only because the sandwich and lemonade is enough for me! It would definitely not be a complete trip to Seaside Heights without a pit stop at Midway!

I usually don't leave a bad review, but our beloved Midway is no longer. The greasy deliciousness has changed to bland, flavorless cardboard. After eagerly anticipating my first Midway cheesesteak of the season, I actually threw some of it away. Rumor has it they changed hands. Very sad day indeed.

The following post is going to be a little gross, so please don't read if you are squeamish. Made our annual trek to get cheesesteaks and sausage at Midway Steak House - every year for as long as I can remember. I cannot tell you how disgusting it was today. The steak for the cheesesteaks was so fatty that the fat congealed and essentially looked like pockets of fish eggs. Every bite was more disgusting than the next. I couldn't even take a picture to share because I spit it out immediately back onto the rest of the sandwich. The prices keep going up, but the quality has hit an all time low. The two cheesesteaks we purchased wound up in the trash... inedible.

I've just never seen what the big deal about Midway was. The meat on the two cheesesteaks I've had was tough and the bread was stale. I've had better cheese steaks at county fairs. You know when you see a preview for a movie in May that calls itself "the hit of the summer"? It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and actually becomes a hit whether or not it's good. Just because someone says midway is the best doesn't make it true. The place on the boardwalk with softshell crab sandwiches is better.

MOVE OVER PHILLY.....MEET ME AT MIDWAY. Totally the Most famous landmark on the Seaside boardwalk. Where is it????where else would it be, but MIDWAY, right smack in the middle of the boardwalk. Where everyone from Jersey meets. From parents telling their kids, ie. me and mine, to teens and adults. Meet us at Midway at such and such time. The sausage peppers and onions, cheese steaks, fries and home made lemonade is boardwalk food at it's finest!!!!!
