I’m confused…
I received a Miette book from my aunt some 10 or 15 years ago and it has been a staple in our home since.
When visiting from Australia, for my one full day in San Francisco, I made sure to stop in at miette. I first went to the ferry building. It was okay, but with no books in sight I moved on quickly to visit the new “flagship” store.
At the flagship store I found no signage, no books, minimal baked items (even less then the ferry building store) and servers who were more intent on filling lolly jars then knowing their product. They didn’t know anything about the books either. I’m so disappointed, after thinking this was a premium baked goods store that I was going to get to try out, I was met with majority a lolly store. I’ve picked up a cupcake, some caramels and gingersnaps. The cupcake was okay, here’s hoping the caramels and gingersnaps are as good as my homemade ones.
Perhaps my expectations were too much, but the experience at both stores was not what I’d read so much about in the recipe book and now has a feel of over commercialisation. Sad.
