They’re the family behind this modern Korean restaurant in Hackney, with dad in the open kitchen and his kids, the cool, unabashedly kind siblings, who are responsible for the warm welcome and service. It’s a calming, white-washed blank canvas of a room we want to spend the majority of our time in, even if a fleeting thought of the gochujang sauce didn’t already make us blush. The gelatine-adjacent glass noodles carry the exquisite smoky flavours of the oyster mushrooms straight to your sinuses, and we have no words for the beef tartare—only dazed mumblings of “love you pear slivers”. "When you step through the door of this minimalist Korean restaurant in Hackney, you’ll instantly feel like part of the family who runs the place. The siblings at Miga greet everyone warmly while their dad cooks in the open kitchen. Beef tartare with sesame oil and slivers of crunchy Korean pear is a revelation, sweet, tender short rib falls off the bone at a nudge, and meaty prawns come on a gochujang sauce we want to mainline. First bite of the yughwe, a rich, expletive-worthy beef tartare that will change your perception of time and yolk. We talk about it a lot. Like, constantly. Sorry. Nothing says romance like spooning prawns. The maeun saeu arrive cuddled up on a bed of sweet, shouting gochujang.
