As a previous poster said, this place is unassuming, which is a refreshing quality. Great coffee, fast internet, adequate amount of outlets, and still relatively undiscovered.
Its quiet, the coffee is the best roasted-in-ann-arbor, and the crowd isn't distinctly hippie (verde), hipster (lab), townie (ambrosia), snobby academic (comet), yuppie (sweetwaters), undergraddy (ERC), faux elitist (starbucks), or greek (amer's).
This place rolls with the best coffee shops I've ever been too, and is definitely a great hangout in Ann Arbor. Its a roastery/coffee shop combo. They serve Avalon pastries, but it doesn't feel like some unmanageable stock that distracts them from their mission: coffee. They sell coffee by the pound, do pour over, and brew as well. I get the brew because I am sort of impatient and I brew their coffee at home anyway, so I'm used to it. If you walk by and their single origins are out, they're a real treat. Definitely can give my other love (Intelligentsia El Gallo) a run for its money.
So, what is there not to like here? Its actually really difficult to think of things not to like. They're tiny, nitpicky things, but 1) they're getting on that whole "ipad as a cash register" kick and the card reader is so buggy that it usually takes some time to cash out. They could probably, and will probably, have to get more seating arranged as people find out about it, but that's about it.
I'd put a disclaimer about the barista drinks: I haven't had them.
