Unions for Food-Service Workers Are Finally Gaining Steam | Eater

"An Ann Arbor coffee chainlet saw 15 baristas organize with the Industrial Workers of the World and gain recognition at the end of October after workers—many with college debt and professional ambitions—sought more sustainable pay and workplace development. Organizer accounts emphasize an overeducated, craft-oriented staff seeking living wages and career pathways; the union drive’s demands included a $15 living wage, paid sick leave, and formal programs for professional development such as third-wave craft coffee training." - Matthew Sedacca

Google
Mighty good coffee is the best coffee I have ever had. We moved away from Ann Arbor and have been ordering their espresso for our home coffee ever since leaving. They go above and beyond for customer service. They recently helped me out with an order I placed inadvertently and completely refunded it.

Delicious coffee experience. Tastes even better knowing it's fair trade and farm direct. New coffee tasting this morning with treats from Jefferson Market. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning.

Visited for the first time this week and loved it! They DO have mighty good coffee! 😃 We got pour overs and loved them. Our barista was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. He made our visit a highlight of our day in Ann Arbor. Will definitely go again! 😊 Second visit this week. Pour overs were not as great this time, but still good.

Google
Excellent local coffee spot. The nitro cold brew is incredible. Smooth, strong and full of flavor. The toast plate is just the right amount of morning snack to go with your drink. The staff are always helpful and friendly. The whole place invites you to hang out with friends.

Google
The Miel Latte was perfectly sweetened with a hint of cinnamon. Greatly impressed with the array of coffee brew methods available!

Google
Nice relaxed space and a friendly service. The coffee isn't Michelin Star standard but would certainly suit a thirsty student looking for a place to study or hang out, or a couple looking for a short break from shopping downtown.

Excellent oatmilk cappuccinos, and an awesome slice of pumpkin chocolate cake.

My wife and I stopped in Ann Arbor halfway home from a trip to northern Michigan. We were looking for a good cup of coffee and came upon Mighty Good Coffee. We were so disappointed when we tried the door and found it locked. We then were standing on the sidewalk searching our phones for another coffee shop nearby. We heard a voice from behind us asking if we wanted beans or coffee. The kind gentleman whom we didn't even notice as being inside had seen us outside and had unlocked the door. He explained that the shop had closed at 2 (it was then about 3:15) but invited us in and offered to fix us a coffee to go, with several coffees to select from. We made our choice and were not at all disappointed. The coffee was delicious. Just as meaningful for us was the kindness of his opening the shop just for us. We don't get to Ann Arbor that often but this will always be a stop for us when we do. I should add that we purchased a bag of coffee beans and have been enjoying Mighty Good coffee at home. And we have signed up for the newsletter and intend to order beans from the shop. Just a wonderful experience.

Yelp
My office has been sourcing our coffee from MG for years but they are on strike-four with us at this point. It became all too much with wrong orders, not staffed during posted hours and being inconsistent. The decision isn't up to me, and I am sorry to say we had to switch vendors. I loved this place when it was a stop for breakfast. The staffing issues have been a lot to deal with and now screwing up coffee supply for an office is too much. My receptionists have to get the morning coffee for 26 people or there are a lot of grumps that they have to deal with first thing in the morning. Coffee is still good though.

Yelp
Excellent beans and service. Jan and Tommy know how to take care of their customers! Hands down better than Roos, Zingermans and Hyperion. Sorry the cafe closed, but this is THE beanery in Ann Arbor!

Yelp
I wanted a bag of decaf coffee. they hadn't made any and they mailed me a bag to my home in Ferndale! and at no cost due to the inconvenience! great coffee and wonderful customer service!

Yelp
Enjoyed going here but the espresso bar is no longer open! "Retail and bag goods only, Wed and Sat 10-2"!!

Yelp
Great coffee shop! There's plenty of seating inside, and I know how important that is to have on a college campus. It was pretty busy on Sunday morning, considering all the people waiting for the Broken Egg came in to grab their coffees. I was one of those people. I got the Brown Sugar and Sea Salt latte. It was super yummy. It wasn't overly sweet. I really love that they put a lot of care into making their drinks. I would definitely come back when the opportunity presents itself!

Yelp
I LOVE this Mighty Good location. It's a wonderful place to camp out for the day and study. It's mostly filled with other people getting work done, so the noise level is usually to a minimum. Baristas are friendly and accommodating. And the coffee is high quality! My go-to to treat myself is an oat milk latte with a little bit of sugar. You can tell the baristas are experienced because of the design on top (evidence attached). Great place to work or catch up with a friend. Beautiful small-town coffee joint. Keep it up, Mighty Good!

Yelp
I've only been here once, but it was mighty good!! First off, the shop is located on main st so parking isn't always easily available, but it's certainly worth the find. This isn't the biggest coffee shop and it can get crowded (I took mine to go). I ordered the brown sugar sea salt latte which was such an amazingly good combination, I think it's definitely one of their more popular lattes. I haven't tried any food, but they had some very good looking sweets!

Yelp
Shhh...I'm hunting wabits. Not really, but that was the feeling I had when I walked into Mighty Good Coffee. It was very quiet, almost eerie with only the sounds of soft conversation, mellow communication between customer and barista, and a shallow yell of the customers name when their order is ready. The floor creaked along with the door squeaks, and it just felt odd. Most people in the shop were silent, single focused on the work at hand, and kept to themselves. The shop was almost full, and yet it still remained incredibly quiet. I was comfortable once finding a seat at the end of the bar. Looking down the line being able to see the whole operation is always my favorite. Amazing enough, the shop was very busy, and the baristas remain fast paced under a calming presence. It was odd, but enjoyable. From dark, earthy tones and a gentle touch of sweet floral flavor, the taste was there, but it finished shallow. The body very light and the texture not smooth. It was unfulfilling, something was missing. Every sip, I awaited the boldness to take over, and I was left hanging every time. The oatmeal was great though. Until next time Mighty Good, Signed, Empty Cup Reviews

Yelp
This is the place peeps go to meet, cowork, or quietly sit in front of a laptop doing their thang. And because of that there's a good energy there. Very spacious and it's quiet but there's a buzz that I dig. I also dig the buzz from the beverages! (See what I did there?) The coffee is quite good (although I haven't had much of it yet), and iced tea is tasty and refreshing on a warm, sunny day. I haven't tried any eats yet but this place is so close to my house that it's only a matter of time. Just wish they were open past 6pm. Later hours would be Mighty Good. Mighty Good, indeed!

Yelp
Love doing work at this coffee shop. One of the largest locations, tons of outlets and comfortable seating as well. There are a ton of windows that let in natural light, making your work/coffee experience enjoyable or relaxing. My go to place for a good catchup conversation, or to do work. Music isn't very loud or distracting which is a plus! There is construction happening in Kerrytown currently so it has been louder than usual, but that's just how it is in AA during the summer.
google avatar

Yelp
Good place to do work with lots of seating and plugs. The hot coco with sea salt is wonderful but the coffee... Ehhhh. The pour overs are a little diluted. The coffee at Starbucks is better And I always prefer my local coffee shops. All and all - go here to do work but not for the coffee.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee places! The staff is always accommodating and friendly(I would be too if I was surrounded by coffee). I was sad to move to Chicago but when I drive back for work in Detroit. I make my way for this mighty good coffee!
google avatar

Yelp
Might Good Coffee is mighty good. I liked the ambiance. I certainly liked my cortado, which was at the same high level as that of the analogous drinks that I've consumed this month at Compass Coffee in Washington, DC and Blue Bottle Coffee in Berkeley, CA. I became an instant fan of Comet Coffee when I had my first cappuccino there in 2015, but was then disappointed by the bitterness in my Comet drinks on subsequent visits. Mighty Good Coffee looks like my new go-to coffee place in A^2!

Yelp
Pros: - Slightly off-campus, meaning your coffee time isn't being interrupted by frat bro conversations or loud group meetings - Wide variety of coffees and teas - Knowledgeable and friendly staff Cons: - Parking (Main street during rush hour...obviously not optimal) - Some of the tables are unsteady and the chairs get uncomfortable if you're in them long enough - Certain spots can be drafty Overall, if you're looking for a quick stop for coffee or meeting a friend, this place is great. If you're planning on studying for a few hours, I would choose elsewhere.

Yelp
I am a fan, but have conflicting feelings about this place. Coffee: excellent. Nice and strong, great variety of beans, and any coffee they have is good, whether it is their specialty lattes or just a regular coffee. Ambience: I love it for the most part. However, one thing that is really frustrating is, for some reason, they have spotty internet. I used to come here at least once a week to study, but after an hour, the internet disconnects and impossible to get on. I know it's not because I haven't bought anything (I usually buy something every few hours if I know I'm going to be there for a while). My friends also have had this problem. It's such a shame because I love their coffee and their laid back ambience, but the spotty internet really stops me from making the trek out there. If you're there just for a conversation or to read a book, I would recommend.

Yelp
Listen, I've gotten their coffee in 1lb format a few times to enjoy at the office and I say kudos. Today I was downtown for lunch and ducked in out of the cold rain for a warm me up. I had a maple and sea salt something or other latte and I don't know what the heck it was, but it was damn incredible. We had six people with us, all enjoyed their brews. My lady friend who got the sea salt hot chocolate was head over heels for it. I have to say, it's rare on Yelp that I don't feel confident in my knowledge of proper product / procedure, but that is the case with coffee and coffee shops. To that end I'm torn on giving it a 4 or 5; comparing it to any coffee shop that I have frequented it's certainly top class so I'll go 5.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee, fantastic service, fantastic feel. This place is, overall...hmmm...let me see...Oh! Fantastic! My coffee snob brother loves when I send him Mighty Good Coffee beans. I feel they compete on a national level for quality of roast and selection. These people are not phoning it in. When you order a pour over, they do it right, every time. It's like they care about coffee, your coffee, the one they are giving you. Deeply.
google avatar

Kristine K.

Yelp
Mighty Good Coffee is the epitome of coffee snobbery. I literally overheard someone say, "I insulted [insert name] by telling him that he uses cream in his coffee," which elicited a hearty laugh from his listener. That said, if you can bear the shame of putting cream in your coffee or ordering a flavored latte (Gasp!), this place is awesome!!! Your coffee selection may be prepared by various methods that take much too long if you are in any hurry, but worth the wait if you have the time. Do not fear, drip coffee is also available if you are in a rush. The Brown Sugar Sea Salt latte is a must if you are craving a treat! And, the Toast Bar is genius! There is ample seating where students are observed in rows, Apple computers in front of them. Overall, a great coffee shop, but beware of the hipster! LOL

Yelp
I've been to the Main St location twice, both times I experienced awkward customer service... One example, I ordered a pound of beans at the cash register - front of the store - the staff member packages them up further down the counter where they keep them. When the beans were ready (1 min later) the barista loudly announced to everyone that the beans are "ready for pickup at the bar".... She knew I was standing at the cash register 10 ft away and could have just brought them to me... I had just talked to her... It was very strange and I'm not sure if they are trained to do that but it doesn't work. I have bought a pound of coffee on each visit - they're reasonably priced for locally roasted beans ($15 and $17 per pound respectively). They offer to track your bean purchases so you earn money back at the store if you purchase enough beans --- it's tracked ONLY by your name, which I appreciate. I haven't tried any of their espresso based drinks - only pour overs. I look forward to the new location opening up at Arbor Hills, Washtenaw and Platt Rd. Hoping they can correct the service issues because I do enjoy the coffee!

Yelp
Service: Welcoming and able to adjust to customers' needs-changed my order from here to to-go and they happily helped Coffee: Rich yet not overpowering; very flavorful Ambiance: super crowded but quiet enough to focus on studying

Yelp
Definitely my favorite spot to be in Ann Arbor! I was so sad and frustrated and mad at myself for only discovering this place in my fifth and final year of being in Ann Arbor. I've always been on a hunt for good hip coffee places but I thought Lab was the best I found. Yet Mighty Good is even better! - wayyy more seats and tables too. I love coming here to study, I feel extra productive when I come here for some reason, probably because most people around me are working/studying as well. My favorite spot in the whole store is the high table/chairs right by the huge window in the front. Although it gets cold in the winter, there's always amazing lighting and you get to occasionally watch people walking outside, which can make your coffee experience even more interesting trust me. I always get the large cappuccino. Sometimes the signature drink lavender honey latte (it's only offered in limited times). Although their coffee is pricier than average it's definitely worth it. You only need to spend $4 and you can stay there for the entire day with free and extremely fast wifi.

Yelp
This has become my new haunt recently and I'm happy to say I've finally found a coffee place in Ann Arbor that has both 1.) great coffee and espresso and 2.) spacious and comfortable environs. Mighty Good also wins out over my two other faves, Lab and Comet, simply due to its extremely convenient proximity to my home and bus line. I have only had their cold press with milk so far and it's very delicious and very strong. They use Calder milk, too, which is great. The ladies behind the counter are always nice and seem to have good senses of humor. There isn't too much in the realm of food to speak of. It seems like if you stop in early enough they'll have a decent selection of pastries, but if you plan on visiting later in the day cookies are about your only option. They're good cookies, though! I love the atmosphere: beautiful tin ceiling, beautiful wood floors, tasteful decor touches. Seating is nice and varied, although a couch in the back in addition to the one in the front would be awesome. I like that there's every variety of seating imaginable - counter in the window, standard cafe 2-tops, a comfy armchair in back, a couch, cafe tables outside, bar seating, etc. Outlets appear to be plentiful, but I haven't used their wifi yet so I can't speak to that. This is definitely a great place to read, study or do work. Music has been hit or miss, although that's purely a personal preference thing. I can say it's never obtrusive or obnoxious. 2 times I've been in I was really impressed and digging it, a couple other times not so much. There is one, customers-only bathroom which is good. This review may come across as just a bit nit-picky, but it's coming from a girl whose favorite pastime is reading for hours in coffee joints. I've come to create a Platonic ideal of the "Perfect Coffee Shop" and Mighty Good comes mighty close.
google avatar

Tommy C.

Yelp
The mighty good coffee company was a trip. The scent of recently-crushed beans caught me by surprise. I had no idea. First, I sat directly near the bathroom and had a great time. Then I made my way to the bar finishing my brief visit with a chilly sanpellegrino. What a treat. The bathrooms were above average, to say the least. Three stars.
google avatar

Beck E.

Yelp
This place just seems okay to me, though it has a nice ambiance. I have yet to find a milk-based drink that I don't feel is overpriced for how it tastes. Maybe it's my fault for thinking "sea salt cocoa" could taste good and not just strange. In any case, I just got a latte and a tiny berry bar for $8.25, which caught me offguard. And then I felt pressured to tip on top of that. Might avoid this place because I don't feel justified dropping $10 to sit in a coffee shop to study. It seems like an okay place, but I'm not a fan.
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
Love the look, love the brown sugar sea salt latte and will love studying here in the fall :) There's metered parking close by, as well as a parking structure a block up. I still need to try more things from the menu, but even so, I'm still in love with my big cup fancy foam latte.

Yelp
Talk about Coffee Experts ! The friendly hipster employees of Mighty Good sure do know what is GOOD ! and honestly know whats better than Good. What people need to be talking about : the Toast Bar options ! today i was able to purchase for $5 2 slices of seed and grain toast from CRUST (local) with CALDER DAIRY BUTTER ( local ) and a large hot Might Good coffee! other options include Koeze ( local) peanut butter, honey cinnamon riccotta & a few other options i forgot. I have had all the listed above and they were ALL AWESOME !! Mighty Good Coffee also has pastries from the Pastry Peddler ( local) on Packard - the croissants looked HUGE and delicious - they had chocolate, normal and almond. also these super cute oatmeal cups - there was 4 options for that as well. and Greek Yogurt in the fridge as another breakfast item. They do all the fancy types of brewing : chemex , v60 , etc etc **** for bottling and cold brewing their own coffee !! :D :D :D great well lite space for doing work and using wifi ! Street Parking available
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
This coffee shop down on Main Street is nice and bright and a great study spot (if you can find a spot!). Since it takes up two former store fronts, half of the café is surrounded by brick walls while the other half has a beautiful ceiling that makes you feel as though you are in a train station. But what's great about the big space is that it has plenty of outlets! -Latte: it's perfectly creamy and delicious. A-ok to order one here. -Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte: ehh. It's kind of a syrupy mess with a slight hint of salt. I would have preferred a regular latte. -Sea Salt Cocoa Latte: oh not yummy. The sea salt just isn't doing it for me in these lattes. It tastes syrupy and unnatural. It's just too much. It even made the cocoa bitter. Gross. -Salted Caramel Oatmeal Cookie (from Harvest Bread Co.): WOW! It's very moist and the caramel has the texture of a dried apricot (in fact that's what I thought it was). It's got a great sweet aspect to it, but yet there's salt in here which makes for an amazing contrast. And the oats, what a great texture. FINAL VERDICT: Grab a (simple) latte and a pastry (no lunch foods or anything like that here), and get some homework done or read a good book--that is, if you can even find a seat.

Yelp
They close a little early for my tastes, but that's just me. I like coffee at all hours of the day & night. That being said, I still made it in there in time to stay for 3 hours. Had a nice espresso. Then I had a small cup of the house brew. I've attached a photo for those who are interested.
google avatar

Logynn H.

Yelp
I have one thing to say about this place: "Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte", unanimously voted by myself and company to be the best latte we have ever had.
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
My favorite A2 coffee shop! The atmosphere is optimal and the coffee is absolutely top notch. I typically go for the vegan blueberry muffin (not super sweet- simply delicious) with a large house brew coffee which I enjoy while studying or catching up with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Mighty Good is easily my favorite coffee spot in Ann Arbor. And there are quite a few good options around town, but Mighty Good is always my first choice. It's a welcome study space and I easily spend hours here in a single day. As an avid coffee drinker, this is the perfect place for well-curated menu, one that rotates its selections. I've never gotten a bad cup of coffee here. The food options are light, but that brie and spiced apple jam toast makes getting out of bed worth it. That's not even an exaggeration. There's usually enough seating to handle a college city. I can usually get one of my favorite tables, though it does get really busy. There are two sides of the cafe, one with warmer lighting, the other with more tables but brighter lighting. The former is better.
google avatar

Meg G.

Yelp
Very expensive, but good coffee. I ordered an iced coffee with cream, & they put whip cream on it right after I mentioned not being able to have sugar. If you're charging so much, is it really that hard to stock sugar free flavors? As fancy as your in-house flavors are, diabetics can't have them.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Spent a few hours here this afternoon while waiting to grab dinner with friends elsewhere in Ann Arbor. There's WiFi - although it was a bit slow, it was sufficient to get some work done. My vanilla latte was delicious and the atmosphere and music were great for doing some work. Outlets on the wall so I was able to charge my phone and computer while I worked. Didn't order any food so can't speak to that.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Great coffee roasted on the premises; relaxed vibe with a perfectionist attention to detail when it comes to the coffee. This is without doubt the best coffee in town. And now they've taken over Jefferson Market and are serving up fantastic lunches and baked goods.
google avatar

Caroline D.

Yelp
It's mighty good! I had a traditional macchiato and it was enjoyable. Nothing too fancy but definitely smooth. They have some delicious looking gluten free sweets, although I didn't try any this time around. There's a cute seating area outside which I also really liked. Fair prices for the quality!
google avatar

Isabella J.

Yelp
Coffee is number one in my book and they do that really well and they roast their own beans. This location seems to be a popular spot for students- every time we went it was packed and miraculously, we always found a place to sit. They have a small menu of sweet and savory items. We gave the toast a try. We ordered the butter and rhubarb jam and the brie and apple chutney. it was a-ok. Idea is good but execution wasn't quite there. I'll definitely come back here for my morning brew on future visits to Ann Arbor.
google avatar

Heidi P.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday to get lattes, amazing stuff! My husband and I are suckers for good lattes, and these really hit the spot. I'm not sure if it's the Calder Dairy milk they use that makes it taste so rich, but a whole milk latte with a little bit of honey and cinnamon is spot on. They let me add my own honey since I wanted to make sure it wasn't too much. Service was super friendly too!
google avatar

Austin T.

Yelp
There's really nothing to complain about here, but maybe because I'm not a coffee drinker, there's also nothing outstanding about this place. I ordered the green rooibos tea, and even though it was hard to pronounce, it tasted pretty good! I'm not an expert of teas, so I don't know how to probably describe how and why it's good, but all I know is that I enjoyed it. The atmosphere of the store is good! Lots of small tables for studying (they have so many outlets!!!), or just to have a drink and chat with a friend! It's a little ways from campus, but on a nice day, it's not a bad idea to take a stroll and get away from the busy campus!
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee. We parked outside this fine establishment while we walked around downtown Ann Harbor. They also have a toast bar which was awesome. We got two orders of toast, an iced coffee and a bottle of water for $11. Super affordable. Highly suggest checking this place out if your are a coffee Guru.
google avatar

Jaime F.

Yelp
Phenomenal place. I go here whenever I'm home and with family, when I'm meeting up with friends, and when people need an easy place to meet. It's THE BEST. The staff is phenomenal and pretty helpful with making the best choice of coffee. Go check it out! It's wonderful.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to hide away and sit in front of your computer, meet up with friends, nail that business proposal you've been working on for months or people watch from the window bar seats, this is your cafe. Spacious, yet cozy, bright yet subtle, there's a spot for everyone on every mission. David Myers is the much involved family man, bicycle enthusiast and owner/roaster of Mighty Good Coffee. He takes the art of coffee roasting, seed-to-cup education and customer service seriously, all in the heart of beautiful downtown Ann Arbor. David is an SCAA (Specialty Coffee Assoc. of America) Lead Instructor and is Barista Guild Level 1 and Roasters Guild Level 1 certified. You can always find David volunteering, teaching, mentoring at one of the many coffee trade shows held throughout the year or travelling to coffee producing origins around the world. Mighty Good Coffee is just that, mighty good. They have an extensive coffee menu and several brewing technique options to satisfy your inner coffee snob. It's summertime in Ann Arbor, so don't forget to try their famous and extremely delicious Japanese method of brewing iced coffees. My favorite- Panama Boquete. TRUST ME, it's outstandingly good iced coffee. Recently, Mighty Good Coffee opened two satellite locations. The first- a coffee cart located at Mark's Carts- a family of food carts that offer an array of culinary delights from around the globe on Washington Street between First and Ashley. The second- a beautifully crafted, reclaimed wood espresso bar nestled inside Two Wheel Tango (Ann Arbor's premier bicycle shop) at 4765 Jackson Road. Cool staff without the pretentious barista 'tudes, outstanding specialty coffee and spacious cafe. What more can you ask for in downtown Ann Arbor? It's my favorite local destination.
google avatar

Jonas L.

Yelp
Wow, someone must have cast some spell over the other reviewers. Maybe it's the "local" tag or maybe it's the haughty atmosphere. Regardless, the praises are hardly justified. Mighty Good Coffee is ridiculously expensive. The espresso drinks are nothing special, and lacking in the art department. Comet Coffee also does the the high-end coffee thing, and they do it way better. I should also say, the service here is consistently awful. The cashiers (sorry, baristas) consistently look both that they don't want to be there and that they are too good for you. They truly achieve the pinnacle of aloofness and snobbery. By the way, this place does not have much seating, so it would not be a good coffeehouse for people to hang about in.
google avatar

Donald K.

Yelp
It would be a great if the product and service here were as good as the hype I'd heard, but the whole place falls short, local or not. Only about half the baristas make reasonable lattes, which seems a sin in a place that has opted against any of the usual tools for covering up such shortcomings (no whipped cream or syrups available) Older reviews mention a lack of seating, but the place does have a couch, tables, and a fairly deep bar at the window. that area seems cheap and slapped together compared to the rest of the shop. Finally, while you can sit down, in all the half dozen times I've been there, WiFi access has been spotty or unavailable, which the baristas seem to be unable or unwilling to do anything about. So don't go expecting to get any work done. Forecast: Chance of drinkable latte hovering 50%. Wifi is likely to be spotty throughout the day. You'd be better off walking to Comet. Just wanted to reiterate, these tossers can't seem to run a wifi network that stays up for more than 20 minutes. And they're still rude.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Ann Arbor so far. The place is welcoming and unassuming--it opens up in the back, so there's plenty of space to study/read/surf the interwebs. The coffee here is top notch. Seriously. I've been to a lot of coffee shops around A2 so far, and this one has been consistently good. They really know how to make coffee. I like to rotate between their coffee of the day and their pour-overs. I like coming here first thing in the morning, right at 7AM. Luckily, the spin class I like to take finishes then, so it's extra motivation for me to get up and work out. Wait, I'm reviewing coffee, right? Anyways, I love being one of the first people in the door, getting fresh coffee, and going on to start my day.. caffeinated.

Yelp
This is my kind of place. I'm currently in the back, sitting down and getting the occasional whiff of roasted beans. It's amazing. I got a cortado that was smooth and velvety like it should be. Very delicately steamed milk and I appreciated that. The cold brew packed a nice citrusy flavor that I was very fond of and also went down smoothly with a nice bourbon-y finish. Lastly, baristas were super accommodating and helped me navigate Ann Arbor since it is my first time visiting. Playlist is straight fire. Wish I could bring some of this warm, roasty, titivating (not really sure what this word means) atmosphere back home.

Yelp
Sorry guys. Had to remove one star because: I bought a half pound of "french press" (aka coarse) ground coffee and ended up with a fine silt -- then wasn't able to exchange it; and, found out you weren't the first in town doing the "pour over" thing (even Zingerman's does it). But, you still roast some pretty good coffee and make a decent soy latte. And the fact that you are a three block walk from my house doesn't hurt either.

Yelp
We decided to check this place and I'm wondering where all the good reviews are coming from. First, the dude behind the register... He didn't greet us but just stared at us as if we walked into the wrong place. He rather seemed bothered. Basically, customer service does not exist here. Second, the coffee is not only overpriced but it was the worst cup of coffee I've ever had, it should be called 'Salted Sea Salt Mess', awful. I was hoping that a good cup of coffee would make up for the bad service. I was wrong, sadly! I seriously suggest you run and spend your money at a different coffee shop. The pretty coffee pictures are not worth it. I think that's the only positive thing this place has to offer.

Yelp
I'm teaching for the first time this semester, so I often find myself with a pile of grading and course prep to do on the weekends, necessitating a couple of cups of coffee, a snack, and a place to do work that is NOT my house. For the last month, I've been trying to find that perfect working place: good coffee, enough seating that I can plant myself without hogging the only table, and food options beyond overpriced pastries or prepackaged sandwiches. I think I've found that place in Mighty Good. The new location - a few blocks up on Main Street in the direction of Kerrytown - provides ample seating, long a drawback of the old location. There are armchairs and two tops, counters and couches, big round tables for group work and small rounds for an intimate cup with your sweetie. You name your preferred seating configuration, and Mighty Good can probably accommodate it. Great, you say, so I can find a place to sit. But why would I want to? Because Mighty Good has seriously good coffee. Now, I said 'seriously good', not 'seriously great'. If you want great coffee, go across town to Comet - but don't plan on hanging out there all afternoon, because those two tables and 4-6 bar seats are filled and turn over just about as quickly as the shots are poured. At Mighty Good, you can count on a cup of locally roasted coffee or a latte prepared with Calder dairy products AND you can sit down to enjoy it. You can also get a seriously wonderful cold brew in the summer - just what you need when it's 80 degrees at 7:30am. Since moving to the new location, Mighty Good has also added a lunch menu with a handful of sandwiches in addition to the small case of pastries, which I'm looking forward to trying. While my allegiance to Comet is unwavering, I'm starting to suspect that Mighty Good might be my coffee home-away-from-home.

Yelp
Wow! A coffee house that literally lives up to it's name! I get the cold press cut with water. It's absolutely delicious. I even find myself stopping in to order one when I don't necessarily want a cup of coffee. The cold press is that flavorful and tastes so good. I'm hooked! The cafe itself is very spacious and comfortable. I love a place that encourages you to be loungey.
