Migiwatei Ochi Kochi (Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The port town of Tomonoura is one of Japan’s most picturesque places, and was part of the inspiration for the Studio Ghibli film Ponyo. It’s here that Migiwatei Ochi Kochi stands on the shore of the Seto Inland Sea, facing a trio of lush green islands. Each of its rooms features an open-air onsen bath that shares in the same panoramic sea view; all are furnished in a hybrid style that blends contemporary luxury with Japanese tradition. Two larger private baths are available for guest use, and the restaurant serves a cuisine that’s focused on local flavors and seafood." - Tablet Hotels

This is the most expensive Ryokan I stayed at on my two week Ryokan road trip. It's a pretty hefty price tag. What do you get for $500+ per night? Amazing staff, beautiful room with a great view, comfortable beds, a private outdoor onsen, and a location right next to the little wooden boat ferry that takes you across the water to the little island, where in the summer you could swim and hike. This is a perfect place for a little romantic weekend getaway.

Room: The room has everything you need, drinks, utilities, private onsen, etc. The view from the balcony is extraordinary. You can sit there and enjoy the view of sea and sound of waves. Service: Perfect Japanese hospitality Location: Maybe the only drawback of Ochi Kochi, as you need to take shuttle bus to get there. But only because of it you can enjoy such a beautiful sea view. Food: One of the most delicious and enjoyable Kaiseki cuisine I have ever had. Most importantly, amount of each dishes are just right, which I think is rare among Japanese Onsen hotel.

Location: It's very far from the city, but this is what we wanted, somewhere isolated with fewer people. We stayed on a corner view room as I have a phobia for little mosaic square tile designs, and only their corner view room had something slightly better (they were rectangle tiles instead) without being overly priced. The room was large with a wonderful view of the sea. The in room onsen bath by the balcony is great to enjoy yourself whilst enjoying the outside breeze. Toiletires are plenty with the usual shampoo/conditioner and shower gel as well as hair tonic, hair serum, hair gel(?), facial products, and a separate set of miniture L'Occitane shower gel/shampoo, etc. Hair brush/toothbrush all included. Drinks in the fridge were all complimentary, and they had a mini manual coffee maker (grinder), which was fun to use. Dinner and breakfast were decent. A typical kaiseki for dinner, and you get a choice of Western or japanese style breakfast. The hotel asked me about food preferences and allergies in advance, and they kindly accommodated me as I dont eat raw fish - in which case, they substituted all raw fish dishes to cooked fish dishes for me. This was very nice of them. The hotel has a lounge by the entrance with alcohol, beer, juice, soft drinks, and snacks available to guests during the majority of the time of the stay. They also have another smaller lounge further in the hotel with tea and vinegar drinks available. Had a wonderful time and again, experienced great service from the hotel which met my expectations.

The ocean view and surrounding scenery are truly breathtaking, but the experience was somewhat marred by the scent of smoke drifting from other rooms during the sunrise. It left me wishing the guest area were entirely non-smoking. On a brighter note, the small private hot spring, with its perfect view of the ocean, is a cozy retreat—I could soak there forever.

I wanted to write this review as it was the best hotel I've been to. There was absolutely nothing I could complain about during my stay when I wanted to stay there A few months later they were fully booked which was a pity. Food and rooms were absolutely amazing and there was everything you might need. As per location (as well as the view from the balcony) it was stunning, the town is quiet and relaxing and the nearby island is definitely worth visiting

Small and beautifully appointed ryokan/onsen set in the fishing village of Tomonoura about a p mins from Fukuyama. The rooms have balconies that look out to sea. Each room has its own private onsen. Complimentary drinks, Yakutia's to be worn to the dining room and other public areas. The set breakfast and dinner menu was extraordinary. Beautifully presented with some unique and different dishes served by very attentive and respectful attendants. A fantastic experience which will make for wonderful memories!

Wonderful hotel. Excellent view. Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful, especially Hanami san who served us during dinner. Their English level are good too. Don’t worry if you cannot understand Japanese.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our stay at 汀邸 遠音近音was nothing short of an exquisite escape. The impeccable service was the epitome of Japanese hospitality—attentive, graceful, and with a subtlety that made every interaction feel effortless. The culinary experience was a true highlight, featuring beautifully crafted kaiseki meals that showcased the finest seasonal ingredients. Each dish was a delicate balance of tradition and innovation, leaving us in awe with every bite. What truly sets this ryokan apart, however, is the breathtaking view of the Seto Inland Sea. From our room, the vast expanse of the ocean and the 仙醉島 unfolded before us, blending seamlessly with the ryokan’s Zen-inspired architecture. The serene atmosphere, enhanced by the rhythmic sound of waves, offered a profound sense of calm and reflection. A perfect harmony of nature and luxury, this stay left an indelible impression on our hearts and minds.
