8 Best San Diego Restaurants for Mexican Food & Margaritas | Eater

"Don’t get distracted by the ghost tours and tchotchke shops sprinkled all over in Old Town. (Actually, do stop at the Whaley House; it’s one of the most haunted places in America and the perfect pre-dinner entertainment). The real reason to head to this old-timey district is for the plethora of authentic Mexican cantinas, none of which can hold a candle to Miguel’s. From their chicken tacos smothered in rich house-made mole to their signature jalapeño white sauce, this San Diego staple’s happy hour is to die for and their Taco Tuesday specials cater to a laid-back crowd." - Vox Creative

Not just another Mexican restaurant in Old San Diego! Sat outside on patio in wonderful weather, and enjoyed an amazing margarita. Their happy hour is top notch! Ordered the nachos and tacos (3), and was enough to take home! Nachos are not a "happy hour" size and come stacked with beef or chicken. Fresh guac, sour scream, and pico to top it all. The street tacos were superb! Will be back next time I'm here!

Visited Miguel’s Cocina during my trip to San Diego, and it instantly brought back all my cravings for good Mexican food. My friend ordered the chicken combo and I had the beef—both were flavorful and satisfying. What really stood out was their super spicy sauce —seriously hot, but absolutely addictive! I couldn’t stop eating it. The atmosphere was warm and vibrant, and the service was friendly. Definitely a place I’d come back to next time I’m in town. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a solid Mexican meal in a cozy, colorful setting. 🌮🔥

Happy hour!!! You can’t beat $7 nachos, 3 street tacos, or the best tasting caritas flautas. All of them are only $7 each. Would definitely get the flautas again. Perfectly fried and crispy. Plenty of meat. And the flavor was amazing. Not to mention they are topped with sour cream and guacamole. We sat on the patio and the view and vibe was excellent. Service was quick and they brought chips, salsa, and queso. The chips and queso are an appetizer in and of itself. Great food, great atmosphere, waking distance from old town train station.

I really enjoyed this dinner, I had a great fajitas and my grandmother loved her a la cart taco and enchilada! My mango margarita was excellent if you enjoy Chamoy.

Food, chips, and drinks were good. Coco margarita was amazing. Our hostess was very nice too

I went here for my birthday and I had a great time. They have on house chips and salsa along with queso, which was a nice little surprise. We got the Chicken Fajitas and the vegetarian enchiladas. While the food took some while to come, it was delicious and worth the wait! The birthday dessert was an amazing slab of chocolate ice cream with peanut butter(?), nuts, whipped cream - loved it!

Came here on my last night in San Diego, staying at the Courtyard Marriott so less than a 5 min walk. (Have that margarita and make it the passion fruit one!!) The unique smokey salt rim is fantastic, highly recommended by my awesome server, Abby. I was seated at the brick oven bar, hesitant at first but super happy with my experience. The tortilla press and grill station is right there and she also uses the brick oven, very cool to watch the process. I had the enchiladas from the dinner section and they were perfect. Sometimes enchiladas are so drenched in sauce that everything is mush. These had texture from the rustic cut pickled topping, the thick tortilla and the steak-which you could taste as it was not drowned by the delicious sauce was all just very good. I didn’t eat the rice, already filled up on chips and dip, couldn’t help myself. The young man who was hosting (28 Sept) was so pleasant and respectful explaining my seating options for a party of one (table wait 30 min, bar immediate seating.) Being at the bar, I overheard his phone management and customer service skills and I was very impressed by his genuine courtesy. You just don’t see that all the time these days, wish I got his name but I didn’t. Thanks for a super last night in California, Miguel’s!

The food was amazing! Best rice I have ever had. The people that work there are so nice 😊 lots of people were there but it was nice and quiet. Are waiter Chris was awesome ten out of ten!

Yelp
10 of us came here at the suggestion of a friend, and he gets a congratulations. We were able to park in a lot behind the restaurant so that was the first "yes!" I got chicken fajitas and they were very good, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The server was very good and sitting outside we could see the neighborhood and people walking down the street in Oldtown, which we did after our meal. Would definitely recommend this restaurant next time you're in San Diego

Yelp
Do not bother ordering the enchiladas. I ordered enchiladas suizas, the salsa verde sauce was not good and the chicken was dry and bland. The beans and rice were bland as well. The only thing they had going for them were the chips and salsa. Our server seemed indifferent to us. Boyfriend ordered a coke and the server brought out a Pepsi. He didn't let us know beforehand that they don't carry coke products. Not a big deal but it's common courtesy to disclose that. Boyfriend requested to sub the beef for chicken in his enchiladas and was brought out beef anyways. We ate 25% of our plates and left. If you enjoy enchiladas, this isn't your spot. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Brother and Sister brought my family here as they were hyping it up. Came here after a lousy day at SeaWorld and just grubbed on the chips and salsa, happy hour tacos, and had a bite of my sisters Ahi Tuna tacos that were incredible. Great spot!

Yelp
We usually eat at the Point Loma location but we came to see the play at the cygnet theatre in old Town so we had lunch here today. Service was excellent and so was the food. I docked it a star because the bathroom was out of toilet paper. My husband had the shrimp omelette smothered in white sauce and the potatoes cooked with loads of chorizo. A rich and filling meal that he took half home. Loads of shrimp and cooked Peppers. The carne asada taco was delicious and smothered in guacamole. I took the swordfish taco home for another meal. Love their refried beans!
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
I love the albondigas soup at Miguel's. For Happy Hour they offer a very large portion for a very reasonable price. Of course the margaritas are always good also. Although we were inside this time, this location has a beautiful outdoor patio. Sorry I didn't get a photo this time.
google avatar

Rodrigo C.

Yelp
Food was ok. Nothing special. The swordfish tacos didn't have flavor. The pork belly tacos were delicious though. Service was nothing special. Typical service, take order, drop off food, ask for check. Server never asked if we needed anything. It felt like upscale taco shop.

Yelp
Straight GAS as the kids would say. This place always hits those Mexican sit down of yesteryear vibes. I ordered the paradilla with three meats: carne asada, shrimp and chorizo. The real star was the grilled veggies that accompanied the meal. They were fresh and very tasty. Can't fail to mention the free cheese sauce and great service. $28 meal was well worth it.

Yelp
Have been here a few times but most recently went here for a family dinner. We had a reservation since it was the weekend, but even though we arrived late, they were still quite accommodating and able to seat us. Upon arrival you are given complimentary chips with queso and salsa although they took a while to reach our table. Service was a bit slow throughout the night but that's to be expected with every table full. That said, our food did come out surprisingly fast. Most importantly they have great drinks and large portions, essentials for a relaxed dinner like this. For starters, our party ordered the strawberry margarita, a regular margarita with an addition of their featured tequila, and a virgin piña colada. Quick note: they serve their margaritas on the rocks and you need to request to have it blended. The piña colada is a generous size served with a big swirl of whipped cream and a cherry on top. Next for the food: - the ceviche - two carne asada plates - Barb's caesar salad The ceviche had a nice amount of seafood, but the citrus was overpowering. I would've liked more avocado throughout the dish instead of just one large piece on top to balance the flavor better. The carne asada plates came with your choice of tortilla (we went with flour) and choice of bean (ordered one with refried, one with black). Overall, it was tasty but the quality of the meat could have been better, it was a little tough and could've been marinated longer. Barb's caesar is huge and comes with a lot of protein. It could be shared by two or three people. The meat and shrimp were both well seasoned. Being seated on their deck let's you look out over old town. You get to see all the decorated tour buses pass by as well as hear different music playing. A super fun atmosphere that still let's you chat with your party. It can be a hassle to find parking though so be aware if you're coming on a weekend. The restaurant has a small parking lot but I've never seen it not full. Expect to have to find street parking or pay for a parking garage nearby.

Yelp
Had an awesome time at Miguel's and the queso was probably the highlight. Wings were all fabulous and we indulged in many "quesadillas" (beer and a shot) very fun times. Service was also great!

Yelp
Guy got little upset when I sent my Del Taco burrito style back. I asked for a real burrito. You see what I say in my picture. I asked for cheese. There was some inside but none on the top. There was not a lot of meat either. Asked for cherry juice for my Pepsi. He never brought there cherry juice. So, I went to the bar and got it myself. He never came to refill my Pepsi. I went to the bar to refill it. The place is busy. People seem to like their food. They have a good selection of beer and other alcohol. The outside is not very noise even with so many people talking Place is very nice. And they have good heaters out side. Nice and warm.

Yelp
So they told us we could take our doggy in the patio. We ordered drinks and it took FOREVER. Then when she finally showed up she said my doggy could not sit on my lap that he had to be on the ground. So my teeny tiny doggy wasn't having it so we left. Found another place to eat where my doggy could sit on my lap. Byeeee

Yelp
I came here last week with a couple of friends for some drinks and food while we caught up. My friend made a reservation, so it was very easy to get in on a busy Friday night. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. We receded right away, even though we were waiting for our last friend to arrive. One thing to note is that the parking is rather difficult on the weekends. Although Miguel's has a small parking lot in the back, it is extremely limited, so don't rely on it. Street parking is definitely possible, especially if you are willing to walk. I was able to parallel park, but my friend paid $6 for a parking structure nearby. I did enjoy the complementary chips, which came with queso and salsa. (Personally, I liked the queso more.) The service was good and attentive--our chips were restocked very quickly. The serving size of the dishes were generous, especially the plates that came with rice and beans. I also ordered the piña colada, which was sweet and just my type of drink! Overall, it's a solid place. Nothing really stood out to me, but it will definitely satisfy your craving for Mexican food. Then again, there are lots of places around Old Town!

Yelp
I've have not been here for a while anyways the housevwine is trash but ok nothing to complain got the margarita well happy hour prices are very good and they give you enough to get full. Marg is all triple sec and nothing else had to go back to the WINE

Yelp
This is usually a great place to visit for Taco Tuesday! Tonight not so much. I arrived at 8:00pm and was surprised it wasn't busy at all. It's usually very busy in Old Town. I had the fajitas supremo, a pollo asada taco and a passion fruit margarita. The food was delicious, especially the fajitas. The chips, salsa & jalapeno white sauce always so good! The service wasn't good. Not sure if they were short staffed, it wasn't because they were busy. Had to get up and look for the waitress to get my check. I'd come back because the service is usually good. This is a great place to people watch. .

Yelp
David (Bartender) is an amazing employee and I am happy to hear that Miguel's has started rewarding him with upward mobility opportunities. He is a long term, loyal employee and always provides Excellent Customer Service. Congratulations!!

Yelp
Situated in Old Town amongst many Mexican restaurants, Miguel's Cocina is a very good pick. We came on a Sunday night and were seated very quickly with the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The restaurant is rather large and is a good place for big parties and I suspect they make fresh tortillas in one of the areas, which is always fun to see. Service was quick and efficient and our food came out within a few minutes. Tonight's selection of food included the chicken chimichanga and Los Tres Amigos consisting of chicken mole, shrimp and pork belly. I thoroughly enjoyed my taco selection, especially the pork belly and the portion was large. Overall a good experience and I would recommend Miguel's to visitors and locals alike.

Yelp
Popped in here for a margarita and dessert for the kiddos. Cool vibe and the kids absolutely destroyed the lava cake. I appreciated the kind service despite only having some small bites.
google avatar

Jordyn J.

Yelp
Stopped by for happy hour while walking around. Literally the best chips and dips I've had in old town. So tasty. The drinks were great and cost effective during happy hour. Will come back to try more food items as everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous. Love that you can see them making the tortillas fresh right in front of you. Cool vibe
google avatar

Yelp
Very busy place. The atmosphere is in the town so it's fun. The food is good, I would try a different item next time. We mad a reservation. You could sit inside or outdoors or a patio type arrangement which more to my liking. This notes from a previous time
google avatar

Sanja J.

Yelp
Good spot overall but please, whatever you do, do not order the house margarita that's $10.00. It's a borderline abomination that Miguel's Cocina serves margarita mix margs that are bright green and gross...
google avatar

Nitin J.

Yelp
Went to this place for dinner after visiting fiesta de Reyes in old town. I have tried this restaurant in past at other location but somehow I was disappointed this time with food quality. I ordered cheese quesadillas for my kid which she enjoyed and portebella mushroom fajitas, I was expected to be sizzler style and hot but it was not like that and I tried flatbread which was ok too. We also have to ask for spoons multiple times so we could start our meal. May be will try again in future.

Yelp
In my trip to San Diego, one of my vendors took us out to this place. It's located in old town of San Diego. The place was busy. Since we were in a very large group, the back was reserved for us. I ordered my usual old fashioned which was a plus on my book. For appetizers, I had the queso fondido. It had shrimp and chorizo, let me tell you, it was soooo good. Later I had the enchiladas. They were good, but I love it when the beans and rice is seasoned well. The server was good, he checked up on us frequently and got everything we needed Overall: this is another good place that I would go again when I'm old town. I would also get the queso fondido

Yelp
After a nice walking tour of Old Town, we had a nice wind down at happy hour here. Recommend a few things from the happy hour specials. The kids LOVED this meal. We ordered starters from the happy hour menu and were so full we didn't end up ordering no more. All happy hour items are $7. Best listed first: - Happy hour sopes - shredded beef: small but packed with flavor - happy hour nachos - shredded beef: big serving - happy hour margaritas - I ordered mine half salt and half tajin on the rocks. They can do blended if you want. Did not enjoy: - calamari - these were strips that had neither flavor or delicate texture. We didn't end up really eating this... Free chips, salsa and cheese dip. Kids had a ball with these. -- Came back 2 days later to order again: - 3 shredded beef sopes - shredded beef nachos So good! And to try 2 Moscow mules - like the tajin margaritas better!

Yelp
Another great experience at Miguel's. My family and I had lunch on Christmas Eve. Service was amazing! The food is always fabulous. My son loved the surf and turf burrito. It was huge! My 21 year old couldn't finish it. The octopus tacos were so good! I love the unique dishes Miguel's offers. My grandson loves the kids bean and cheese burrito. I'll keep coming back as often as possible. Miguel's is great!

Alejandro R.

Yelp
Oh my God. The Huasteca enchiladas and the pork belly tacos were so delicious, but that doesn't compare to the superb attention and customer service given by my server Chris and the Manager Anaís. I can't remember the last time I was this happy leaving a restaurant!
google avatar

Jules F.

Yelp
Good mexican food, good service, pretty speedy to get seated (even without a reservation) and food came out quickly. I really liked the steak fajitas, there were 4 tortillas and enough meat and grilled onions and peppers for leftovers the next day. My parents enjoyed the ceviche, taco plates, while my child swears by the fried ice cream (which is shareable but she almost managed to take down the entire thing by herself). Best Mexican in Old Town, but maybe that's because people keep dragging me to other sub-par nearby locations. When the bar is set low, that's Miguel's moment to shine!
google avatar

Zoe C.

Yelp
Migiels Cocina is located in the Historic Old Town San Diego. Been here once before after visiting relatives in the area. The atmosphere is nice with Spanish music playing, the waitresses are attentive. We started with the Shrimp and scallops Ceviche and some house Guacamole which I might add was very good. My main course was Beef Enchiladas Rancheras with Rice and Beans, delicious. My family enjoyed their meal as well.
google avatar

Yelp
After a trip down to San Diego with my team, we went to old town and stop and get some lunch together and went here. Service staff were fine, and the area looked very lovely and detailed, although the table was rocky which was a bit bothersome. It's in a nice area and the decor is nice. The chips themselves were nice, with a bit of a watery salsa that was okay. I ordered a starter of Ahi Tuna Tostadas, which the flavors worked with each other and it was decent, the fish didn't taste the highest quality but was okay. Afterwards I ordered the Chile relleno, the rice and beans were very pleasant and very good. The Chile relleno itself wasn't really that good and the flavors were bland, nothing really blatantly wrong just not great in any way. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, just not one that I think was quite worth the price and a place that other menu items might stand out higher than others. Not a bad place to get something to eat but there are other areas where your experience might be a little more consistent. I will be giving this place 3 stars

Yelp
When you share a border with Mexico... You better bring your A game in the Kitchen. Well Miguel... Your Cocina (kitchen in español) definitely brought their A GAME! ------------------------ The first week of April 2024, my wife & I went down to San Diego with our 3 kids to enjoy their Spring Break from school. Our plan for the trip was all about going to SeaWorld, hitting the pool and of course..... FOOOOOD!!!! And when in San Diego, you know we are gonna get our Mexican On! We took a short drive from our hotel and decided to see what Old Town S.D. had to offer. After perusing Yelp, Miguel's Cocina looked promising and so off we went! And if you have read ANY of my other reviews on ANY Mexican restaurant I've been to... YOU KNOW damn well... I AM ALL ABOUT THE CHIPS AND SALSA!!!!!! You mess that part up, it's game over! Well, 2 minutes after being seated.... All my dreams came true!! (Plus a bonus) The bonus you ask: A side of Queso!!! Ummmmm....game changer?? !!!HELL YESSS!!! New Rule: Queso is a musto from now on-o. (Spanglish) lol From there... 2 margaritas for my wife, 1 Mexican beer with a lime for me and we were living our best life! And it only got better from there. We didn't plan this but.... Not on was it April 2nd (a Tuesday) but it was now Officially a TACO TUESDAY!!! And what's better than a Taco Tuesday you ask??? A Taco Tuesday during Happy Hour!!!!!!! See! I told you it only got better from there. Needless to say, we didn't hold back! Fresh Guac! Taquitos! Carne Asada! Carne Adobada! A huge bowl Albondigas Soup! And chicken strips with beans & rice for the kids! True story: Halfway through the meal, I looked at my wife, she looked at me and I said, "I'm stuffed!!" Lol. I guess my EYES, were bigger than my stomach. Check my pics below, & you can see our mini feast. Our server was very sweet, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed (sorry I didn't catch her name). But kudos to her and the cooks in Cocina! So.... Next time you are in San Diego, it's a Tuesday, and it's happy hour.... Promise me that you are coming to Miguel's Cocina in Old Town!!
google avatar

DeAnna L.

Yelp
Ish... with so many choices in Old Town this would not be first on our list. Service was good enough. Empanadas were freezer to fryer.
google avatar

Vanessa N.

Yelp
I came here for the mole tacos, it was recommended to me by someone working at the Whaley house! These tacos did not disappoint me. My Server Hugo recommended me to order the tacos a la carte rather than ordering dinner and replacing rice and beans with the salad. The Free chips and queso was honestly the star of the show. The Queso is literal crack, be careful, its supper addicting service was timely and very helpful. This restaurant is decorated exactly how you would expect it to be and lots of families here.
google avatar

Bri F.

Yelp
My fiancee and I were exploring Old Town and came by for some lunch. The waitress was really friendly and checked in on us throughout the meal. We got the black bean & corn enchiladas, the shrimp quesadilla, and some drinks. Our food was out quick, the portions were generous, and everything was delicious. Great spot for flavorful food, a killer blackberry mojito, and awesome service!

Jessica P.

Yelp
Absolutely the best carne asada tacos around. I get them every single weekend. I get them without lettuce or pico & Add a little beans, rice, white jalapeño cheese sauce and the salsa that comes with the chips best tacos you have ever had. Carne Asada Tacos Cheese Enchilada Chips and Queso

Yelp
I had never been inside Old Town. My husband and I were spending a weekend in San Diego. We decided this restaurant as our place to have dinner for the night. I ordered a spicy watermelon margarita. It was good but didn't taste like watermelon much. I did not like the chips at all. Which was disappointing because everything else was so good! The queso fundido was soo good! One of the best I have ever tried. And my husband and I shared Fajitas. We got steak, pork and mushrooms. It was so yummy!
google avatar

Rosemarie F.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible food, fresh hot tortillas chips and salsa (on the house!), and a lady making home made tortillas in the middle of the restaurant. The music and ambiance really ties it all together. Special shoutout to our incredible server, Stephanie: wonderful suggestions, very attentive, super friendly, and all around just an amazing person who made our first time visit all the more special! We are local to San Diego, we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
We had a great time at Miguel's Cocina. The wait for a table was much shorter than expected. Upon being seated, our drink order was taken. Shortly after that, we ordered appetizers, which came out surprisingly quickly, given how busy the restaurant was. All of the food was delicious and we definitely over ate. Service was very friendly and patient with our large group that had many questions. The ambience is fun and casual and it's a perfect conclusion to a night walking around Old Town.

Diego M.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate and walked out shocked that our server stopped us at the door to complain about a tip. I think it's important to remember that a tip is OPTIONAL and not REQUIRED, and I would be happy to leave a bigger tip but due to certain things I didn't feel like leaving a big tip. To start off, server took forever to acknowledge us after getting our drinks he kept walking past us and I understand this, it can get busy and hectic so that's not a big deal. As for the food, the food wasn't the best, A lot of the dishes had food that was really salty, and the nachos ordered were burned and most of them were dry with the tiniest bit of ingredients on top. We didn't complain because we didn't want to ruin the night. When we were about to leave the server was lingering at the door waiting for us and asks us about the service to which we replied it was okay because again...we didn't want to make a big deal out of it. He then has the audacity to be like "so what's with the tip?" In what I took as a very gross tone to talk to customers with. This was incredibly shocking. I work in the food service industry and one thing we never do is call out a customer for this. This was so disrespectful.

Yelp
I am giving Miguel's Cocina 100 starts because it deserves it. I came for vacation with my lovely husband and from all restaurants in Old Town I decided to try Miguel's Cocina. We ask Ethen why we should eat in here and he say because this Mexican food is authentic, the best, fresh and tasty. This is how I decided to try it out. We try Caldo de Albóndiga, 3 different types of burritos and Enchiladas Huastecas. Mmmmmm delicious . I try a Miguel's Ultimate Margarita and it was good as well as their spicy salsa. The ambience was so cute, clean and comfy with nice view. Jose was our server and he was very polite and gives us some food recommendations. I'm glad we came here and I do recommend this restaurant to you.
google avatar

Rebecca A.

Yelp
We just ate there last night. We saw their health rating (which was perfect) and some of the food pictures here on yelp, so we decided to go. We are so glad we went! All the food was delicious! I had the mushroom fajitas which were seasoned so well! My husband had the combination fajitas. The other dishes that were ordered by my family were the shrimp burrito, chile relleno, and enchiladas. Everyone loved the food, the service, and the restaurant as a whole. Everything was great! Such a good experience!
google avatar

Elijah C.

Yelp
I want this place to be a 4 star, but man it's just missing the cut for a place I'd choose to eat at. Keep in mind I paid $21.82 after tax and gratuity for the enchiladas. There was a total oil slick bleeding everywhere, and while the portion is big, rice and beans cost almost nothing and they weren't very special here. So the dish was a bit of a letdown at this price, but that wasn't all. The plate was super hot coming out and I got 0 warning, thus I immediately burned my finger trying to center the plate in front of me. Fair enough that the waitress was busy since we had a big group, but no notice and no apology is no good. It's a shame because the restaurant is really beautiful and well-decorated. Won't be trying to come back here anytime soon, but the mango margaritas look fantastic so grab one of those with chamoy if you decide to come here.

Yelp
After walking through Old Town, my girlfriend and I came across Miguel's Cocina for lunch. Initially, it was pretty empty inside the restaurant as well as outside but nonetheless we still walked in. Our waitress was very kind and attentive from start to finish. Our waitress served us complimentary chips and salsa to start off with. Both my girlfriend and I said the tortilla chips were okay and both the salsa and queso was watered down and bland. However, our main entrees made up for it. I ordered Miguel's trio burritos. One with carne asada, one with shrimp, one with just shredded chicken along with beans and rice. The carne asada was okay, it was tender and not over cooked. Both the shrimp and chicken burritos were good and the beans tasted fresh with the cheese. I would say the rice was okay too, don't really know how to describe rice but it was okay. I would order this meal again. My girlfriend had the carne asada burrito entree and she enjoyed it. The carne asada was tender and it was flavorful. Overall, solid 4 stars for this restaurant.

Yelp
Peter gave the BEST service today. It was our first time at this location and it is now our favorite. He gave great recommendations for food and drink! Everything was delicious! We ordered from the specialty and HH menus. Not pictured was the Maui Maui Taco plate with rice/beans and the flautas. Cooked to perfection. The cheese sauce with chips to start is off with were so good! I have to remember to save room for dessert next time. We really liked that it was inside and outside as the patio was very inviting! We opted to sit inside as it was chilly today. Music inside was a decent volume. I hope to go back soon!

Yelp
I really like this Miguel's location. The food and service are really good, and it's conveniently located in great spot in Old Town San Diego. It's walking distance from all the stores and museums but just a bit further away from the crowds. The chips and salsa are great here, and the enchiladas are good too. We always have our dog, and we're able to eat on the patio with him. I love coming here after a visit to the Old Town shops and all the historical spots in town. Service is usually great here as well. They always bring out our waters and chips and salsa the moment we are seated. This is a wonderful place to grab some lunch and relax after a long day of shopping. The food is consistently good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The beautiful patio is a lovely bonus!

Yelp
Large portion but not much flavor. The best was the cheese sauce you get with the tortilla chips. Waiter was great at first, then once he had served the food literally disappeared on us. There are better, more authentic places to eat in Old Town.

Yelp
Had reservations for 15 this past Saturday, I been to old town many times 1st for this place, very nice and clean, we had a private section on the back, the service was great, I ordered the Mango Chamoy Margaritas with queso fundido as my appetizer, delicious , for my entree I had the chicken enchiladas Suizas with Sour cream and green tomatillo sauce really good and tasty, not a fan of the yellow cheese lol. I will come back I enjoyed the service and ambiance of this place.

Yelp
Summary: Large portions of mediocre food Details: Came here with a large group of coworkers for a team dinner, and not sure if I just ordered the wrong dish with the enchilada trio, but for a city known for their Mexican cuisine, you'd think the bar would be a bit higher. That's not to say the food was BAD: the chips and salsa were solid, and the enchiladas were fine, but not particularly standout. Despite three different varieties, they all tasted fairly similar, and fairly flat. That said, if you're looking for a value meal with massive portions, they're certainly not a bad choice, but not one I'd reconsider, especially given that they're somewhat out of the way. Accessibility: The front entrance is up a flight of steps, so you'll have to get the staff to let you in through a back entrance. Once inside, you'll find tables largely accessible, and the interior fairly maneuverable.

Yelp
Ambience is fine, a bit loud. Service was ok. We only had drinks and chips/salsa. The port side perfect margarita isn't perfect but ok. Local beer was good. Chips were decent. Salsa fresh, and cheese sauce good. Worth a stop by. Would give 3.5 if that was an option

Yelp
Miguel Cocina in Old town is number one compared to the one in Coronado and Point Loma. We're never disappointed in our food. Can't say the same at the other two restaurants. The Chimichanga my friend was happy with her order,No complaints for the Carne Asada taco combination, my Carne Asada burrito was good but wouldn't order it again. It was different to have the guacamole on the outside of the burrito. I'm sure there's a few who rather have it served this way. I'm just not one of those people. The staff is always friendly and very efficient. Nice to sit on the patio and have a cool breeze coming from the West. One thing that was different and no fault of the restaurant. You no longer can park in front of the restaurant because the SD city has painted the curb red.

Yelp
Classic fish taco was the best I've ever had without a doubt. Got a swordfish taco as well and it was also a must try.
