Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in the Atlanta Area | Eater

"In Dunwoody, Mikata offers sushi and hibachi in a sleek space. Though the restaurant does not offer outdoor seating, floor-to-ceiling windows fill the airy room with natural light. Served alongside house-made sauces, any of the sushi rolls are optimal pairings for a crisp white wine. Whether you sit at the bar to watch the chef work or at a table, this modern option ensures an elegant evening." - Vox Creative

A quaint yet vibrant sushi restaurant and bar. Per my non-Vegan relatives, the fish is extremely fresh. The creative rolls and fancy presentations - edible orchids - are a decorative finish. We ordered the following: *Japanese mushroom chips *Vegetable tempura *Super dragon roll *Margarita roll *Edamame *2 Passionfruit lemondrop mocktails As a collective, we enjoyed our selections. The staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere is modern and cozy. Prices equates to the good quality of food and service. Complimentary parking up to two hours in the adjacent parking garage. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving good sushi.

This was a really great dining experience! We celebrated our daughter’s 21st birthday at this restaurant and were not disappointed. We made a reservation and had a party of 6. We were quickly seated upstairs and the ambiance was lovely. Our waitress took our drinks and sushi orders and allowed us time to select to our dinner options. The sushi rolls were fresh and yummy. The meals were hot and delicious. We all selected one or more combinations of the chicken, steak, shrimp and scallops. The miso soup was fresh and delicious, and oh the Drinks…very good! I highly recommend.

Came here for the first time and really enjoyed the sushi! Everything tasted great and all the prices were very reasonable for the quality. Service was also good, the only thing I would want to note was that our water glasses were a little dusty inside. Other than that, would definitely come back and try the hibachi side of the menu!

I was supposed to write a review a few months ago but life has been so crazy but my experience here was amazing I had to come back to write a review. First off their bar selection is really good it has everything you could ever want and made good lychee martinis. After we were greeted and seated by Julia we ordered the food and it was fresh and pretty but the tables favorite is fried rice so tasty and didnt have too much soy. After we wrapped up dinner Julia helped us upstairs with pictures and found out she was the owner and gave us exceptional service to make sure we were okay and that nobody bothered us. overall the ambiance and the food was good for a night out ! :)

The Drunken Tiger Rolls and the Beef Noodles were my absolute favorite this visit. The Toki Old Fashion was awesome my wife had the Cucumber Martini and loved it. This is not a one and done type of place you will come back for more for sure ..

Google
This was a great place for sushi. We had a quiet team dinner here and was able to comfortably have a conversation. The portions were generous (I thought) and I felt like it was a decent value.

Google
Mikata is a true gem in Sandy Springs! The ambiance is stylish and welcoming, drinks are excellent, and the sushi is so flavorful and fresh it doesn’t need to be dipped in any sauce. We tried the Rainbow Roll, Red Fantasy, and Super Dragon—each one was fantastic! They also serve hot dishes and hibachi, so there’s something for everyone. Bella was our server and she was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable—everything you could ask for. The owners are hands-on, supporting their staff and warmly welcoming guests, which makes the experience even better. Great location with plenty of garage parking (2 hours free). Highly recommend!

The sushi was out of this world! Fresh and so good! If you like spicy definitely try the margarita roll. I would come back again to try different rolls.

Yelp
Best sushi and hibachi I've had in years! This place is absolutely fantastic -- the food is fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The sushi is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the hibachi is bursting with flavor. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to dine with friends. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food, comfortable ambiance! I dined here during a solo work trip and had such a lovely experience. My server was quick and attentive and gave great recommendation/descriptions of the cocktails. He lead me to the perfect beverage that went great with my sashimi plate. The sushi was sooooo yummy! Everything tasted fresh and the portion size was significantly larger than most other sashimi platters I've had. I really loved this meal and hope to be able to visit again in the future!

Yelp
Mikata is a good addition to the perimeter area; in proximity to perimeter mall, but not on the congested Ashford Dunwoody row of businesses. Located on Hammind Drive, Mikata offers two hours of complementary parking for customers in underground garage. Signage from the garage to the restaurant could be better, but allowed me to get my steps in and see other businesses in route. The ambience is well thought regarding decor and use of space. Did not notice the upper dining area, that accommodates about 30 people, until I was exiting the building. The lower area offered a combination of tables and booths and appeared sufficient for lunch crowds. Entry also had a full bar And sushi preparation station in proximity. I enjoyed my meal of a rainbow roll and Ika salad. The salad consisted of seared octopus and vegetables accompanied by a Ponzu dressing. I requested ginger dressing as that is my preferred salad topping. It was delicious; flavorful and tender. The rainbow roll was also good and consisted of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, snapper, and ono. It was garnished with a beautiful flower. I would have like the option for brown rice in my sushi, but unfortunately that option is becoming more and more rare. Hibachi offerings are also available for those who prefer well cooked food. The portion sizes were optimal as the person I dined with was satisfied with the child size. As mentioned there is a full bar and the drink menu was extensive. Opted for a non-alcoholic beverage during my lunch visit and it was refreshing. The arnold palmer combination of my companion did not measure up to usual standards, even after two attempts to correct. Overall, a recommended dining location for those in proximity. I would return again for the evening hours for comparison as the lunch hours ended at 2:30 PM, and then opened up again after five for dinner.

Yelp
My friend and I dined here for lunch recently and really enjoyed it. It's located near perimeter mall in a building on 1111 Hammond drive. Parking is available in the garage and the restaurant validates parking for up to 2 hours. The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing. They have lots of options on their menu including sushi and hibachi. To start, I ordered the Japanese slipper which contains gin and midori. The drink was very pleasant. Initially, I wasn't going to order sushi, but I saw how good it looked arriving to other tables nearby. I decided on the NY strip roll and it was delicious. I also ordered the filet and scallop hibachi. The steak was very tender and everything was good overall. Although it's a bit on the pricier side (even for lunch), I'd absolutely return. The service that we received was really good as well.

Yelp
Stopped in tonight for some sushi. I sat at the bar and had great service. The bartender was very enthusiastic and efficient. I had the margarita roll spicy tuna and jalapeño as well maguro sashimi both super fresh and delicious! Beautiful location there is parking near by but I walked a short walk from the hotel. Will definitely return

Yelp
I decided to try this restaurant for lunch. I called to place a to go order. I ordered the salmon fried rice, total $17. The food was very filling and delicious. I would order here again. There is a parking deck available. I would recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We stopped by Mikata for the first time recently. Located in the same complex as the Statefarm headquarters, things were very quiet when we arrived. (Around 6pm on a Saturday.) We were seated promptly. Ambience is a little clubby, with moody lighting and lively music. The menu has a variety of "standard" American style sushi rolls, some specialty rolls, and a selection of Nigiri. There was also a hibachi section, which we didn't have the chance to try. The quality of the food was good - I'm always a little skeptical of Sea Urchin this far from the sea, but it was quite delicious. The rest of the nigiri was also solid. That said, I found the price to be somewhat high for what you were getting. (Within striking range of omakase options in this area, and it's not on that level.) Sake selection was limited, but the sake that was on offer was good. Weirdly there was a more robust standard wine list. Service was friendly, but harried. We had a three course meal, a bottle of sake, and tea within 50 minutes. It was a very very rushed experience. Overall, I would recommend giving this spot a try if you're looking for something new, but I don't think that we'll return.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night with a friend to catch up over drinks and sushi. I'd never been to this restaurant before so was excited to try it. Our server was really nice and attentive. She walked us through the menu and made sure we were hydrated. I ordered the Snow White roll and the crawfish dynamite roll. Both are cooked rolls, so if you don't like raw these are the rolls for you. They were both delicious but I did prefer the crawfish dynamite roll better. The crawfish dynamite roll is a bit messy but there are eight sushi rolls underneath the mound of awesome flavors that consists of crawfish, scallop and crab mix with spicy mayo, eel sauce and scallions. It's definitely a winner. The Snow White roll was more reserved in its appearance but tasty as well. It reminded me of the Snow White roll I loved at a restaurant called Blue Sushi in Kansas City. I will definitely be back to Mikata!

Yelp
After years of not liking hibachi from most places I found a neighborhood gem! As you walk in you'll transport into a luxurious feel. The host/hostess were very nice and welcoming. I sat at the bar area because it was just me without a reservation. The bartender was beyond nice and very sociable but not overbearing. I enjoyed the lotus drink, spider roll and the hibachi shrimp and chicken. It was a nice portion of food but so couldn't dare finish it all. All ingredients were very fresh. I was even able to get real wasabi (minus the horseradish). I took home the steak hibachi for the family and everything tasted wonderful!

Yelp
It is a little tough to find as you park underneath (2 hrs free) and walk up. Worth the effort though! Fish was super fresh and the preparation was beautiful. Service was a bit lacking - but chefs & ingredients were on point. New & bright setting - very modern.

Yelp
Nice vibe. Good bar. Great rolls. Good service. This is a great place to stop have a roll or two and some of their tea. I don't know if the bar is rocking at night or not.

Yelp
From the service to the presentation, this place is hands down the best restaurant in the area. While the ambiance may feel a little austere given it is in a corporate building, the service and quality of food make this a mainstay for me during my travels to the area.
google avatar

Miyuki Y.

Yelp
Quality of the food here is great! Menu has a lot of options (including hibachi if you're scared of fish) Drinks/ service were also great. I thought the rolls here were pretty over rated, they were good but it's nothing CRAZY. P.S. bring your flashlight so u can read the menu

Yelp
This was my favorite dinner my whole week in Atlanta. The servings are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are balanced. It was spacious inside with a relaxed and tranquil vibe. My tuna tataki was huge! I loved the sauce on it and the bed of daikon it rested upon. The tuna looked like glistening jewels. The New york strip roll had seared steak that was still a bit rare and very tender. It melded so well with spicy crab, avacado, and eel sauce. My guy got the habachi option with scallops, filet mingion, and fried rice. The protiens were cooked nicely, although the steak could have been a bit more rare it was still tender. The fried rice was flavorful. My virgin passion fruit mojito was lacking a bit. For some reason, they use a mix for the virgin instead of fresh limes. They gave me extra club soda, which helped make it taste a bit better. The service was attentive and food came out in a timely manner. They have two family sized restrooms, but I do wish they didn't have such strong fragrance inside, I could barely breathe in there. Despite that hiccup, I wanted to go back and was sad it was our last full day in atlanta.

Yelp
No reservations got here at 8:40 pm. Seems like they only have 1 wait staff and the bartender. The place is prerty new just opened 4 months ago. i just felt bad that he is working by himself getting all orders from all the tables hence the 4 star but good service from him he tried his best and gave him 20%tip as you should. Didn't get to take pics of all the food. Orderes is as follows: rockshrimp tempura unfortunately the shrimp is literally hard and i was craving tempura that's why i ordered this. Drink is yum got the lycheetini Hibachi steak nothing special, enjoyed the yellowtail jalapeno and the dynamite sushi.

Yelp
I never do reviews!! But this place deserves a 5 star review!! The food was spectacular and I know food. It's my hobby and I like to think I have a decent palate. There crispy rice with spicy tuna. Which is currently off menu is the best I have ever eaten. It's a new restaurant. Apparently, it's about a year old and is must if you like amazing food and especially amazing sushi! And I never take pictures of food either It's a pleasure!! Enjoy!

Yelp
My favorite hibachi place, their hibachi is gluten free and its amazing. They also have a great cold saki I really enjoy.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, great service and delicious food/appetizers! Went on a whim for a birthday dinner and didn't disappoint

Chloe S.

Yelp
Went here for lunch, based on the amazing views this place had. Go here if you are expecting a mediocre experience and quality of food. The prices are outrageous for the disappointing food they serve. I would advise you to spend your money elsewhere, as this place will leave you very unsatisfied.

Yelp
For being brand new I thought this place was great! Our waiter in particular (Logan) was amazing, hilarious, super helpful and overall super great waiter. They have a downstairs seating, with beautiful decor and lights, then they have a more intimate upstairs that is a great little get away and perfect for people watching. They have both a lunch menu and a dinner menu, i think they are overall pretty similar but the lunch prices might be a little cheaper. But this place has some interesting cocktails! It give a nice bar vibe and it is super fun, we enjoyed our cocktails with our food and had a great date trying this new place. My only thing is they don't offer a GF soy sauce! I think more places need to do that. But I will be coming back.

Yelp
The atmosphere is an open concept and is very Manhattan. We had an excellent waiter, Mikael, who is speaks fluent Portuguese. We tried Tuna Belly, and several rolls. The presentation was beautiful and completely works of art. The owner spoke with us and it is a well run restaurant with very pleasant staff and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Overall 5/5: Great service, food, and drink! Drinks 5/5: I had the Japanese Slipper, my company had the Red Sun and the Lycheetini. I tried a sip of all, they were amazing. Food 5/5: We tried the Mikata Tower, Spicy Tuna Roll, as well the Hamachi Nigiri. All were amazing. So fresh and beautifully prepared. We also ended the night with a wheat ale which tasted great and was adorably packaged. Service 5/5: We sat at the bar and were taken great care of. The bartender had a nice flair and was extremely knowledgeable about the drinks. He also made us a drink that was to be featured on the menu, a cucumber martini which was delicious. Ambiance 5/5: The interior was very beautiful and minimalistic designed. Nice and elegant. Would definitely recommend this place :) Can't wait to go back! Thank you Mikata!

Yelp
This had to be some of the best hibachi i've ever had. My boyfriend and I ordered sushi and hibachi and both were perfection. The sushi was fresh and soft, the rice wasn't overcooked (which is always a plus). The hibachi, which was the star of the show was amazing. The rice had a smoked taste and was cooked perfectly, while my shrimp and chicken were seasoned and cooked well also. My boyfriend and I also ordered soup instead of a salad to go with our hibachi and.. let me say it was the best miso soup i've ever had. It had tofu and other spices and veggies in it that really set it off and made it so different. Our service was quick and efficient. Our server was so kind and accommodating and matched all our needs with a big smile. The environment and scenery of the restaurant was just an added bonus. It felt luxurious and clean and was the perfect addition to the amazing food! I 10/10 recommend coming here, I went yesterday and I'm already wanting to go back!

Yelp
We had steak and shrimp hibachi and a shrimp tempura roll. Hibachi was okay. Our sushi roll was delicious. Simple but the eel sauce drizzle and black sesame seeds amplified it. The owner was present, very attentive, and accommodating. Ambiance was romantic.

Yelp
I came here for a large birthday group, the ambiance was very nice. Their rolls are fresh and yummy but not out of this world. Kitchen was backed up with orders and half our party did not receive any food for about 45 minutes after the other half, but it was understandable with a large group.
google avatar

Kaelyn C.

Yelp
had a beautiful experience eating here for my birthday dinner. The waiter was super attentive and came to me and my boyfriend. Every time we needed something the drinks were phenomenal. The food was cooked to perfection and they also give you a complementary sherbet ice cream with whipped cream for your birthday, I would recommend this spot to anyone who just wants to invite some family and friends out for a birthday dinner. It's super intimate and beautiful.

Yelp
This was our first meal at Mikata in Dunwoody,GA. The food, service and ambiance was wonderful. We will come back, often! Loved it!

Yelp
The rolls were great ! The restaurant had a cool vibe, the music was a little loud, the bar area is dark so if you have older eyes it's hard to see the menu. Bar tender was friendly as well as a gentleman I believe was the owner. It was busy when I was there. They have a good Japanese whiskey selection. There is a parking garage right next to the restaurant so it's convenient. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Mikata is a new Japanese restaurant located @ the State Farm Complex in Dunwoody (same building w/ YAO). There's garage parking with 2 hours free validation. I was there for almost 4 hours & paid only $4 lol Service was impeccable!!! It was a pleasant experience with Julia, Brian & their team. They were very attentive to our table & fun vibes!! My personal fav. Was the Mikata Tower, Jalapeño Poppers & Sake Belly. I'm a whiskey gal so love their selections of Japanese whiskey there (:

Yelp
Best & highest quality sushi I've had in atlanta! Extremely fresh and you notice the difference between this and other places immediately. My favorites are the aloha and margarita roll if you like a little spicy. And great cocktails, their lycheetini is perfect! Amazing service and ambiance as well. If you live in atlanta and love sushi you need to try this place!

Jessica P.

Yelp
My family and I love this place. We have been multiple times and it is always wonderful each time. Today I got the Hibachi chicken, my kids also had Hibachi options while my husband and our out of town guests had multiple different sushi roles. Beautiful presentation. Delicious food. Service was great. Very attentive. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Not quite a 5 star, but close. The sushi was delicious and presented nicely. All our food came out at the same time and quite fast (Thursday evening). The staff were nice and attentive, and the overall restaurant atmosphere was quiet and classy, but still suitable for a casual night out. The place is somewhat small, but we didn't have a problem with being seated immediately. They're not the largest sushi rollers I've eaten, but they were fresh and tasty. I only wish their menu was a bit more expansive. I was only visiting and likely will never be able to eat here again, but it was a solid sushi restaurant.
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
A co-worker and I came here for dinner as we were in the mood for sushi. We found it didn't disappoint! We chose to sit at the Sushi counter and struck up a conversation with one of the sushi chefs. He asked questions around what we liked and shared recommendations our way. We ended up ordering the things he suggested and found ourselves having a wonderful experience with the food. The ambiance of the restaurant in the evening was great. They have both seating at the sushi bar as well as typical restaurant seating with dimmer lighting and an intimate atmosphere. We started off with the Toro - Belly Tuna. Then we went with two roles - The Mexican role and the Red Fantasy. The flavor of the fish and other ingredients on all of the items were fresh and delicious. I look forward to visiting Mikita the next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
I'm so happy to have found this restaurant on Yelp. I wanted to head to Sandy Springs for other reasons but wanted dinner first with my family. Love the vibe here and the decor. I haven't been to a restaurant in a long time that had the kind of service we experienced. From the front door on, we really felt welcome. The hostess was especially amazing and my daughter at the end of the meal was debating sorbet, and she actually brought a small bowl to her complementary with a little whip cream, compliments from the chef. It was such a nice gesture. Let's talk about the food... My sushi roll. The Mexicana was terrific. It was fresh, spicy, and their spicy mayo was on point. My ginger salad was fresh. My daughter enjoyed her salmon roll. The pickiest one of us all, my boyfriend, always seems to compare every place we go for hibachi to one place that he really really likes. He said their hibachi parallels the place he likes so well. That was shocking to me. He also ordered a nonalcoholic Mojito, which was very refreshing. They do have a full bar, but I decided not to drink last night. I'm so glad that everyone had a terrific meal, and again the service really stood out. This place is a little drive for us but so worth our time. Please give them some love too and keep this business thriving!
google avatar

Yelp
New Japanese spot in Dunwoody/Perimeter area, right next to the mall- 2nd time trying and definitely 5 star worthy. Think sushi + hibachi but minus the annoying grills and a little more upscale, focusing on better quality sushi and really great drinks. The vibe of this place is 1000%. Everything we tried was amazing- we forgot the pics of the corn ribs and rock shrimp because we ate it so fast. Great date night spot! Parking tip- if you park in the garage, take the elevator down one, it's automatically a 2 hour free validation, turn left out of the elevator and walk all the way down to Mikata! Family owned, which we love! Go support!

Yelp
The food was delicious. The ambience was so beautiful. But unfortunately, our waitress' service towards us changed the dynamic of our experience. We made sure to mention that I was pregnant in the Reservation Notes. And we also mentioned it again upon arrival. I asked the waitress if it was possible to ask the chefs to make my entrees well-done for me. To which she said, "No they can't do that. I can ask. But it's not normal to ask that here." We were a bit taken back, but we have no issue going to a different restaurant that can serve well-done food, just to be cautious for my behalf. But we stayed bc she came back and told us that the chefs could make the food well-done for me. And she proceeded to make the whole dining experience very uncomfortable. As to continually remind me about my, "overly cooked food" and how she "would never order it like that" bc "why would anyone order like this." We both ordered rolls. My husband got their normal uncooked sushi rolls. And I ordered their deep-fried snow crab roll, the Snow White Roll, fully-cooked. Upon food arrival, she placed my husband's entrees down by their name, "Here is your New York Strip Roll and your Red Fantasy Roll." But for me, she placed my entree down and said, "And here's your very very overly cooked food." I completely understand that I may have become a bit sensitive at this moment of the meal, and I understand she may have been trying to make a joke. Although the food was so delicious, the experience had made me incredibly self-conscious. Unfortunately, my husband is also a very atmospheric diner. Which means that even though the food was delicious, the vibe of the service towards me was what ended up changing his mind of the restaurant. So although I deeply enjoyed the food, we won't be returning due to personal impressions. Again, our issue was never about the food. The food was wonderful. And we understand nigiri obviously isn't meant to be cooked. We want to clarify that our issue was with how our waitress made us uncomfortable.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've ever eaten! Everything was amazingly fresh and well prepared and the fish just melted in our mouths. The service was great and there was never a time when we didn't have everything we needed. The restaurant had a modern decor, but still very comfortable. Do yourself a favor and try it!
google avatar

Yelp
Best sushi in Dunwoody. My husband and I were so impressed with this place. From the food, to the cocktails and the great service, this is going to be a regular date night spot for us. Highly recommend to anyone!

Yelp
Came here for the second time today and the food was amazing just as last time. Their chirashi was so delicious and so fresh! Their lunch bento box, consisting of grilled salmon (they got other options including teriyaki chicken and sushi rolls), fried rice, assorted tempura and salad, was so good! I typically always opt for steamed rice, but their fried rice is really good. Service was consistent and great and the place was super clean! You park at the parking deck (easy to find) and first two hours is free.

Yelp
Really great food! All the sushi we tried was superb. Service was good too! Ambiance was on point,

Yelp

Yelp
Sooo good like off the chain the Snow White roll is my new favorite sushi ever. The cocktail was excellent & all the food was very fresh tasting. Pork dumplings not pictured but 10/10. Very friendly staff even while they were busy & super clean!
google avatar

Idit K.

Yelp
We loved our sushi dinner! Tuna tataki, albacore lover roll (no rice), tempura shrimp and chirashi were superb in quality and flavor. You would think that a $32 chirashi is expensive, but it is huge! I would get rid of the wasabi sauce on top of the albacore in the chirashi; a small portion on the side is more than enough not to overpower the dish. Around $90 before tip for a very good sushi with large portions seems reasonable. Service was a little too attentive but overall we enjoyed it. It wasn't crowded for a Friday evening, and not noisy at all. Highly recommended!

Erna G.

Yelp
My favorite part about their dishes is the presentation. It is absolutely beautiful. Tastes decent too! I would recommend especially for fancy occasions.

Yelp
Loved the sushi here. Cute restaurant and sushi that doesn't disappoint. Service is also great.

Yelp
This place is a total bust. Let's start with the service -- it was overbearing, annoying and ridiculously slow. We ordered two cocktails -- the "Toki Old Fashioned" and some other $17 drink that I can't remember the name of. Both drinks were absolute trash -- watered down and weak. The Old Fashioned was laughable, honestly. If you're going to charge this much for cocktails, they bettered be damn good! We didn't even stay long enough to try the sushi. The service and drinks were so bad, we got up and left. Would not recommend this place.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
This is our 6th visit and the sushi is always consistent and fabulous. Our favorite rolls are the Margarita and Red Fantasy. We've had incredible service from Alania and Marla a few times. However, I do not recommend sitting at the bar -- the bartender will degrade your experience.
