Mike Hess Brewing serves the best fish tacos I’ve ever had! This was my second visit, and they did not disappoint. The tacos are fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crafted—every bite is a delight. The vibe at the brewery is great, and it pairs perfectly with their tasty brews. If you’re a fan of fish tacos, this spot is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back for more!

Google
Great spot with local brews to try. Recommend their radler and wheat if you want to try something not IPA. Great views and food was good too. I liked “tuna tower” appetizer. Not a lot of options outside of tacos but overall liked the taste a lot. Pro tip: If you are a local you know but if you are visiting, definitely try upstairs seating as it is not as crowded and has nice bar style chairs overlooking the water.

Google
Honestly, these are some of the best fish tacos I've had in town. We had fish tacos and sweet tasting Vietnamese coffee stout and a larger to join the tacos. Prices don't reflect this tourist area!

Google
This place slaps. A small beer is huge. Tacos are under 5 bucks. Directly on the water. What else do you want? It feels wasted on such a touristy area that this place is so good.

Google
Can’t beat Mike Hess in Seaport Village! Amazing selection of beer + other drinks (homemade root beer and NA beers). The view is to die for, whether you are sitting downstairs or on the second floor! Everyone is always super friendly. Just a really nice vibe with friends and drinking great beers. Honestly could sit there all day because it’s so relaxing! Love that you can get tacos sitting at the brewery from Quiero Tacos. Went to Mike Hess 7 months pregnant and still had such an amazing time (even if I couldn’t drinks). Love taking friends here!! Can’t wait to get a root beer next time and a few beers in the next few months (bringing the baby)!! :)

Brews weren't bad, I just didn't enjoy as many as would expect based on the larger selection. That said, nothing beats the view here. The staff was great. The food was good. My first drink was this month's flight, and it comes with my choice Mike Hess glass. There are a few more beers for me to try so I'll be back, hoping I really like a few more but for sure for the view. Parking is a bit difficult at times in the lot. And my fault, I forgot to ask if they validate after spending a significant amount there, so had to pay $48 💸 for parking for the multiple hours I was drinking there.

Google
Good beer selection, Restroom are for the entire shopping area so they are far away. I had a quick $10 beer before the ferry ride to Coronado

Great lunch spot, loved the fish tacos & steel beach lager. Decent prices for this area. Great views of the water, loved the upstairs patio.

Yelp
Mike Hess Brewing - Seaport Village has a neat selection of brews and tacos. I find this to be the gem of seaport village. SERVICE Valet parking is available at an adjacent lot. Order at the counter and get a mobile text alert when order is ready for carry out, or if you dine in take a number to place at your table. AMBIANCE Outdoor, waterside dining at ground or balcony level. TACOS 5/5 Ossobucco: cheesy Asadero, tender beef shank, spicy green salsa, topped with mushroom, fresh cilantro, onion 4/5 Carnitas: upped a notch with additional green sauce, chicharron is a nice touch 4.5/5 Pearls of the Sea/tempura fried scallops, veggie medley: January 2025 taco of the month, full of vibrant veggies, just wish I got more scallops as there were only four

Yelp
Such a fun place! Right on the water and they have a really cute outdoor space with string lights. They have a really fun selection - highly recommend getting a flight since you can try five different beers, and it comes with a free glass to take home. They had some fun sours, stouts, and seasonal beers that I really enjoyed trying. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
If someone tells you they want to meet at Mike Hess, you may ask, "Which one?" If they reply, "the one in Seaport," you may again ask, "Which one," as there are now two Mike Hess locations within Seaport Village. Mike Hess is becoming the Starbucks of breweries (strictly because they have two locations in the same shopping center). I don't know if they just didn't have room to add on to this location, or if they really wanted two separate locations on essentially the same "street", but in either case, they're doing well enough to grow their business. This *specific* location of Mike Hess is the one I return to every year to try to snag a spot for the annual Bay Parade of Lights. It has always been packed on days I've visited, and on the parade night, unless you arrive over an hour early to grab your drinks, order your food, and slide into an empty table, you may just be standing around awkwardly for a long time with a cold one in the cold. While people are giving you cold ones. Then by the time you actually get a table to sit down and eat, the parade has started and you have to keep standing periodically to see anything. Despite the stress from this occurring all three years I've attended, I still come back to Mike Hess each time, and I look forward to it when the holidays come around. Their beer is awesome, and you can probably come to that conclusion at any of their locations, but what I have loved about this location are the delicious tacos that they serve. They may do this elsewhere now, but before I was only aware of this location serving them. In the three years I've been to this location, they have always had a taco of the month, so I've always made sure to try one. I have never been disappointed with the flavor of a taco, but I will say that I was a little bummed to see there wasn't a meal deal this time when I went in December 2024. In the past they have offered a deal of 2 of the seasonal tacos and a beer for ~$15. Maybe they're doing too well for deals now. The first time I came here, my parents came down from Temecula and we all really enjoyed it. I later introduced my partner to it, and he now also looks forward to coming here. Something I didn't know about this location until this last visit is that there's an upstairs seating area that overlooks the water as well--the stairs are through the tap area and in the courtyard. I do recommend checking them out at any time of the year, but they're still my top choice for the parade viewing, as there is alcohol and seating with a good view at an awesome price. I think for 2025 I might look into buying one of the parade viewing seat tickets though, where you get a reserved spot facing the water directly.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant and brewery! My wife and I came here in November when visiting for a conference and it was very easy to walk over from our hotel. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice flight, chips and guac, and tacos. The beer was very good and paired really well with the food. The food was all very tasty and we enjoyed most of it, though the homemade chips were a bit thick for our liking. Service was excellent and we had a really great lunch. It was a nice way to welcome us to San Diego!

Yelp
I loved this brewery. I came here every afternoon to have an IPA and watch the seaport. It's in a bustling tourist area but offers quiet weekday afternoons if at the convention center or getting off work early in the downtown area. It's accessible off the seaport boardwalk and not overrun with homeless people. The staff was nice and gave good suggestions. There's a good place inside that's yummy (Mexican). Merch is A+ CUTE

Yelp
Great local brewery in the heart of San Diego's tourist spot. I'm glad they opened a store out here so people who travel here can have a taste of SD Craft beer, tacos, and views! It's the perfect location to get a feel of what we are about here in SD. It's definitely a good go-to and the service is exceptional! If you're visiting, this is worth a visit! My recommendations: Appetizers Holy Viche Tacos : SD Carne Asada, quesadilla birria, surf and turf, kids quesetaco, and portebella. Beer/ hard seltzer ,octoberhess, and ipa

Yelp
Great beer, great food, and overall fun place to hang out! They have a wide range of beers and the staff was very knowledgable and helpful when trying to decide what to get. Overall fun place, and would definitely would come back if in the area.

Yelp
GREAT view. Definitely the draw here. The beer is not bad, we just had one and kept moving. Def check it out for a beer and a relaxing view.

Yelp
Seaport village brewpub with a great selection of beer and reasonably priced edibles. I loved the double IPA. And you can't beat the view. .

Yelp
I'm no Van Gogh... But let me paint you a picture. It was a beautiful sunny day. Blue skies and not a cloud in sight. A light breeze was rolling in off of the Marina and the sun was beaming down on our faces. It was like Starry Nights, but during the daytime... I'll call it 'Starry Days' ;) Well, I don't know about you... (but I'm feelin' 22)... But seriously... When I'm outdoors, on vacation, and it's a beautiful day outside with the sun beaming down on my face... The only thing that will ensure this painting becomes a masterpiece is an ice cold beer!! And speaking of art... Beer making is indeed an art and I can personally attest that Mike Hess Craft Beer is truly 'a work of art'. And just as with any brewery on the scene, it's about more than just the beer that they pour, but about the overall experience that you have... And we, had a great experience! I mean, how often can you bring your kids who are 5 and under to a brewery and not get the evil eye? Well at Mike Hess, we were welcomed with a smile. And guess what!?!? We even got a beer for our kids to share... Root Beer baby!!!! And it was damn tasty! (You were about to give me the evil eye, weren't you?) For me, I went with their Steel Beach Lager. My wife went with their Grazias Red Ale. Both were excellent! Best part... (other than the beer) Beers are served in a cool aluminum 'solo' cup with the Mike Hess logo on it and afterwards, you can keep the cups!! We are now the owners of 4 Mike Hess aluminum cups!!!! Meanwhile... While soakin' up the sun on their outdoor patio relaxin' & sippin' on our brews, I asked the guy behind the counter (who straight up looked like a modern day 80's surfer) if we could get food at Crack Taco Shop and eat it there on the patio; he said of course... And suddenly, that day just got a little better! Perfect weather + vacation mode + beer + tacos = Best. Day. Ever. While we sipped on our beers & slowly devoured our tacos from Crack Taco Shop located next door, we played a little jenga which is provided by Mike Hess brewery. Final thoughts: The vibe of this place is super chill. The styles of beers appease to all (Lagers to ales to pilsners to stouts to IPA's and even some sours and hard seltzers are on the menu. Perfect SoCal weather makes you want to sit outside and just enjoy the sunshine with a cold beer in hand. Family friendly! They even have root beer for kids or to you adults if you're just not a beer drinker. Veteran Owned!!! So the next time you're in San Diego, make sure to come check out Mike Hess Brewing.

Yelp
OMG!! The combination of flavors from the shrimp and fish but also the added fresh crunchy veggies and sauces were so freaking good no other tacos around here can top that. Sorry no way. Best seafood tacos around. I was totally surprised that this brewing place will have these taco flavors like that. Amazing!! You will not be disappointed and prices are very reasonable too. Then you pair that with a perfect beer and the view. Ordering was pretty easy. You can grab your own water for free and the staff is nice. You are welcome!!! Heaven on earth. Loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, but staff was a bit rude. Overall the food was good. We also got a beer flight with some great options! The view was beautiful!
google avatar

Asma A.

Yelp
Starting off by saying that I don't drink alcohol and got food to go, but when I walked by the restaurant, everyone's food looked amazing. I got the tropical salmon taco and quesadilla on a corn tortilla. The salsa on the salmon taco was divine and the quesadilla had a fresh corn tortilla with yummy asadero cheese. Amazing food and quick service. Great view if you choose to dine in the restaurant.

Yelp
We had SUCH a good time here- we went here because our cruise docked in SD. We came to this place both times because the beer was exceptional (Vietnamese Coffee!!!! OMG so delicious)- and the burgers were excellent. And the manager was the best- he looked up the ingredients in the fries for us and we actually got to eat them!!!! We almost never get fried food because of an allergy, so we are beyond grateful. We will go here when ever we are in SD. Thank you so much for being awesome!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Reasonably priced food with a view, which is hard to find in San Diego, let alone the Seaport Village! The carne asada taco was fine, but the Chicali was awesome!
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
4 stars for the beer, 4 stars for the vibe, 2-3 stars for the food. This is definitely more a place to come for the beers on tap while enjoying the ocean view, with food as an afterthought. Come with that expectation and you won't be disappointed. Salmon taco was extremely dry with a very small portion (2 oz) of salmon on a flour tortilla.
google avatar

Yelp
Steve and dove into Mike Hess Brewing again and had two more of their beers, different ones than from before. The first one was an IPA, known as the Hop Cloud Hazy IPA. Flavor features to look for with this IPA are juicy, citrusy, subtle and zippy. And of course hazy in appearance. I have had a couple other IPA'S and like any good brewery they make sure to have distinguishing characteristics between each of their IPA'S so you know you are having something different as you switch from one IPA to another. I have been to some breweries where I couldn't even tell in which that two different IPA's tasted the same. The other beer we enjoyed was a Kolsch called Claritas. We always enjoy kolsch beers and this one was no exception to that. Flavor highlights to be on the lookout for are sweet and malty with a clean finish! The beer is also very light bodied and smooth which is a characteristic we always enjoy with our beer drinking experiences!

Yelp
Food was delicious!! The quesi birria tapatia was so worth it. Kombucha on tap was really good.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience for sunset hour - 5. Hazy IPA - 4. Tuna poke tower - 3. The tower was tasteless. The poke at the Hyatt hotel was better. Service was quick and friendly. Get there about 1 hr before sunset to grab a front row view.
google avatar

Chelsea V.

Yelp
Good variety of beers are offered. We enjoyed them on the patio with a great view of the water. Food is available from nearby vendors. There are daily specials for merchandise or discounts.
google avatar

Dev T.

Yelp
We stopped by this brewery while walking along the harbor. It was for an early lunch so there was still plenty of seating open, though that filled very quickly by noon. I got the seaport tuna tower. I thought this was really good and was plenty of food for a meal. I would get this again. I got the black cherry seltzer as well and loved it. We sat at one of the high top tables that looked out at the harbor. This was the perfect spot to eat and drink while people watching. I would recommend this spot if you are in the area!
google avatar

Karina C.

Yelp
First time visiting from NorCal, their michelada from the 'secret menu' was amazing. However, their "specialty' Baja Burger was not good. It was very bland and lacked flavor. The fries were not any better. I definitely recommend the drinks way more than the food...
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Great local beer in a beautiful spot in Seaport Village. Grapefruit Solis is my favorite, but all the beers here are good!
google avatar

Tomaszek C.

Yelp
Five stars because there are no six stars available. Really great place. I come here each time I visit San Diego. Absolutely amazing taco choices. One cannot go wrong. Great outdoor seating available with a water view (try upstairs - it's amazing). No beer review as I did not order any, however - the place sells craft beer and the menu looks delicious. But back to tacos. Pulled pork and beef and fish and shrimp. Serious taco snob heaven.

Yelp
Ok.. so I stayed at the hotel next door last week! Came in too early for Checkin so stopped and had a drink at this brewery.. absolutely love the pineapple cider.. actually still dreaming about it and can't wait to go back just for that.. the food was good.. but most importantly love the fact that the upstairs is 21+ .. absolutely love that! Yay!!! Thank you so much for that.. I am definitely going back.. service is very friendly and fast .. great spot to chill and just enjoy the beautiful views!

Teresa H.

Yelp
We love this brewery! Their taco Tuesday is great! Their food is very good and they have a large list of beers. The spot in Seaport Village is so wonderful, with views to the water and Coronado. They also have a tasting room very close by. Their staff us always friendly.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
I've been here twice on a weekend morning for breakfast, beer, and nice view overlooking the water. It is a great place for people watching. I've had vegan chilaquiles, as well as their breakfast burrito. The food menu is made in-house by Quiero Tacos. Although the breakfast menu lacks vegan options, the regular menu has three vegetarian items that can be made vegan. My most recent visit was during Oktoberfest, and I enjoyed a serving of their "OktoberHess" beer.
google avatar

Tracy A.

Yelp
My husband and I were walking along the shoreline at Sea Port Village and came across the brewery. We decided to stop in on a whim and so glad we did. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered the beer flight and tried some good beer which is funny because we aren't big fans of beer. I was curious about a sour beer I saw on the menu board so I tried it along with the flight. It was so good! I actually can't wait to come back and try some more.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday for lunch with friends who love this place and I can see why. We sat upstairs out in the outdoor patio area which has a beautiful view of the bay. The tacos were so good. I ordered the fish taco, pollo asado, and avocado taco. They were all delicious. I like that even though the tacos are offered one way on the menu that you can modify them to your liking. For the fish taco, on the menu it comes with a flour tortilla but I asked for a corn tortilla. And for the avocado taco, it is usually tempura style but I requested that the avocado is just plain and not fried. The portion sizes were on the small side but the two tacos were enough to fill me for a little while. We didn't order any drinks. We would definitely return to try the other food items.

Grayson S.

Yelp
food and beer are awesome, the tacos specifically have variety and comes with different salsas to add. 10/10 service
google avatar

Crystal M.

Yelp
I came here specifically for the flight and the view. The service was quick and the gentlemen that helped me were kind and patient. The flight I chose was great and I will definitely come back here! I didn't get any food this time, but I can smell the truffle oil they may put on the fries, so I will be trying that next time!
google avatar

Ayoosh K.

Yelp
Beautiful scenic patio. Perfect for any time of the year. Service was quick. Their craft beer selection is great , especially if you like IPA. A flight had 5 beers into. Costs about $18
google avatar

Yelp
First stop at the Village. The young lady working was amazing My husband wanted a beer, but not sure which one as they don't have what he usually drinks. He got a sample and was happy She told him the price for one or a 6 pack. He asked if she would keep it cold for him and she did

Yelp
Mike Hess Brewing at Seaport Village is a fun little spot to stop by and enjoy a flight on the deck with a fantastic view! I decided to try one of their flights. The flights come with 5 - 4-ounce drinks. There is a 15% discount for the "Flight Special". I'm sold! I ordered the special flight since I wasn't feeling too fussy about what I wanted to get. I just wanted to try something new. My flight included: - EZ Drankin (Blonde) - Claritas (Kolsch) - Grazias (Amber Ale) - Solis (West Coast IPA) - Gang Makes a Hazy (Hazy IPA) (lol?) My favorite was the EZ Drankin and Grazias. Actually, the only one I didn't care for was Solis. That is all personal taste, of course. Your flight comes with a casino chip. Once you finish, just bring the glasses and paddle back with the chip for a free souvenir glass! Very nice! The flight cost me roughly $15.99 plus tax and tip. It ended up being $18 and change out the door. I was able to get a seat up at the bar and enjoy the flight with a great view of the water and the boats along with some prime people watching! lol There are some interesting characters out there! I really enjoyed my time at Mike Hess Brewing and would absolutely come back again if the opportunity arises. 4 solid stars.

Yelp
The fish tacos were so good!! Home made tortilla and sauce on the fish were delicious!! I also tried their dry apple cider and that was so good too. The service was great staff super friendly!! The ambiance is right on the water so can't get better than that!! Highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Darcie J.

Yelp
This was the first place I came when I came to San Diego and I've brought everyone back for beers! The outdoor area is gorgeous overlooking the water and if you go at a less busy time it's super relaxing. It can get a bit stressful during busier times/seasons trying to find a table! The tacos are decent for the price!
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Not just beer; have slushies and sangria seltzer. GREAT tacos with a water view!! Welcoming and friendly staff!
google avatar

Patrick C.

Yelp
Went on trivia night. Sat right at the water looking out. They have seating upstairs and downstairs Had the burger and it had amazing flavor to it Got the hazy beer it was good Customer service was really great Great place to go on a sunny day
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
A perfect spot to unwind after strolling around Seaport Village area. Nice varicose beer to choose from the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, great beer, love the rooftop option! Service was quick and the ambiance with a view of the waterfront you just cannot beat!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite weekend spots! Great beers, great views, and great food - can't ask for much more! Bartenders are usually quite friendly and fun, even during busy rush times. Good selection of staple beers plus rotating options, and lots of merch!
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
Located in seaport village. Parking can be pricey at the lot if you can't get the metered parking. It's located near all the local shops. Amazing view of Coronado and good beers and food. About $8-10 a beer. Enjoy a nice walk near the water after a couple drinks
google avatar

Jonne J.

Yelp
Great service and great selection of beers. Right next to the water and tons of food spot around them. Definitely would come back.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
I just don't know why we have waited so long to try Mike Hess Brewing. It is a new favorite. I guess we never stopped in each time we walked by because the place always appeared to be packed. Now I know why, the beer is fresh and delicious, the food is incidental. Besides the elevate patio and balcony provide some great people watching and view of the bay. If you get a railing seat, you are right on the strand and 20 feet from the water. The sunsets are an event here.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Location: this is a gorgeous location right on the water, but seating can be limited. You order your food at the counter and then find a place to sit. I was on the lower level. Bathroom; there is no bathroom, you have to find the public bathroom in the shopping center Food: got the carnitas taco along with signature Mike Hess hazy IPA beer. The beer is just beautiful beer. Highly recommend their signature beer. A server will bring your taco. She placed it in front of me and turned to leave so quick that I did not get chance to ask about hot sauce. I waited for a bit but no servers and I couldn't leave my seat since I was by myself. The corn tortilla was a bit too thick. The pork was tender. With the guacamole topping I was able to enjoy this taco with no hot sauce. It was very good.

Nick J.

Yelp
Please honor our flag and replace with new one. The American flag is currently ripped. Thank you! Love this place btw! "U.S. Flag Code, when an American flag is in poor condition--such as being ripped, torn, faded, or tattered--it should be removed from display and replaced. The Flag Code states that the flag "should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning" when it is no longer a fitting emblem for display. Many organizations, like the American Legion or Boy Scouts of America, often hold flag retirement ceremonies to dispose of old flags in a respectful manner. It's important to ensure the flag is treated with proper respect and replaced with a new one when necessary."

Yelp
Can't beat the views of the bay! Plenty of seating, with a cool vibe. The food was very mediocre. We had the carnitas tacos, which needed some seasoning, it was topped with the hardest chicharron that was not edible. We also ordered the chips and guacamole, again needed salt, and the chips that came with it just of been the last of that batch because they were broken, and very oily. We ordered the mexicali fries, which again needed seasoning, and the "cheese" was pure liquid, leaving the fries in pretty much like water. Not flavorful at all. The carne asada had some flavor. Unfortunately the food was very underwhelming. The blonde brew though was delicious! Our order came with everything except the fries and by the time the fries came the rest of the table was done eating. Unfortunately, not the best for food at all, but good for a beer and a view!

Yelp
Love this spot! Great beer selection, good food options, beautiful view and friendly staff. Came in on a Thursday afternoon and John was super helpful and recommended the Good to Go IPA which was delicious. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Delicious tacos and great service Crispy fish tacos are the best! Cozy atmosphere in front of the harbor
