This place is such a hidden gem! First off, it’s a family-owned ice cream shop, and you can really feel the difference—they care about quality more than just making profits. The whole vibe is super friendly and down-to-earth. One thing to keep in mind: they’re cash only, so make sure to bring some with you. If you forget, no worries—they actually let you mail in a check later, which is such a rare and thoughtful touch these days. They’ve also got private parking in the back, which makes life so much easier, and there’s even a restroom for customers. Families will love this place because there’s a small play area and a little treehouse where kids can have fun while you relax with your ice cream. Now for the ice cream. Seriously, it’s the best ice cream you’ll find around here. They don’t have a huge menu, but every flavor they do offer is top-notch. I tried the pista almond and it was incredible—creamy, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness. You can tell they put a lot of love into making it. All in all, this is the kind of spot you’ll want to keep coming back to. Great ice cream, family-friendly atmosphere, and people who genuinely care about what they’re serving. I visited Mike’s Ice Cream and I loved it. The town of Hood River is very beautiful and this place is perfect if you want a dessert. The ice cream is very good and there are many flavors to choose from and the price is good. There are many tables in the patio to sit and enjoy, and even a treehouse for kids to play. 🛝👦🌲🪾 The workers are very kind and always smiling. I recommend bringing cash because it is easier to pay. 💰

Mike’s Ice Cream has been a Hood River landmark for nearly 30 years. In front of the small shop, there are tables & chairs, benches, and grass to sit on while you eat your treats. Watch the busy Hood River tourist scene go by as you enjoy your cone. Open seasonally from May until about October. The taste was so good sweet and a bit sour!! love ❤️ them all.

Obviously the employees or friends are doing the reviews. I've never wanted to dump icecream in my life. This was a first. It DOES NOT TASTE GOOD. THE pistachio did not taste like pistachio but had a weird metallic taste. The salted caramel tasted fruity! The cookie jar flavor had cookies in it that were STALE and blah! And to top it off, we paid $7 for a double that was less icecream than the KIDS size the kids behind us got. I would have taken it back but we drove away and parking in this town is ridiculous. I dumped it. Their store bought waffle cones have so much glue on them you can't eat the cone or you get mouth full of paper. NEVER AGAIN. DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY on a place that the reviews are obviously rigged at.

How has no one else on planet earth come up with a orange chocolate flavor?!?! BLESS YOU MIKE'S ICE CREAM FOR HAVING THIS FLAVOR! Truly enjoyed this experience! They are cash only so make sure you carry some one you! They are so kind and their flavors were all so wonderful! Can't wait to come back for more!

Very yummy ice cream and super friendly staff. I LOVE that you can get multiple flavors no matter the size! And though they are cash/check only, I was really touched that they prefer that you order your ice cream and get a handwritten IOU slip to mail cash or check later, than go without ice cream! So lovely. Cute outdoor seating as well.

Quick and Delicious. Has the basics with some fun flavors. It is Cash only but that helps keep it cheap and fast. Definitely recommend to stop by if in the area.

The ice cream is delicious!!! Very simple flavors, allows you to enjoy the most basic flavors. Also it's the perfect blend of flavor and sugar. Not too sweet not too plain. I had the espresso ice cream cone ( sugar cone) and mint chip, two great blends yet not one overpowering the other. The best part of the ice cream is that it has great customer service. The servers allowed you to sample and offered advice on what would blend well. The outside has a nice seating area to rest and enjoy your cones or your bowls. Lots of room to relax and an enjoy and outing with the family. Top notch business , great atmosphere, and relaxation. What else could you ask for?

A great stop on a hot day. And a great value. $10 for generous amount of ice cream for 2. Super friendly staff steered us toward chocolate obsession and salted caramel (they very nicely split the very generous scoop) Nice area outside for sitting and kids play area. Ask for info on close restroom if you need it.

What a cute spot! A walk in ice cream place with plenty of flavors to choose from. They also sell very cute merchandise as well (I was eyeing those baseball caps). I had the Mint Oreo & I loved it! Husband had raspberry cheesecake and he enjoyed it as well. They even let our dog have a pup cup (vanilla ice cream). They had plenty of outdoor seating which was so nice to just eat our ice cream and enjoy the evening. Note: they only take cash or check!

Mike's is definitely a treat and worth the wait in line. I love his sign at the door!! Great ice cream! I had the red raspberry, my grandkids had the double chocolate chip. Both were delicious!

I have always wanted to try Mike's but usually am here when they are closed. The staff were all super friendly and knowledgeable. I got the K Chip which was delicious. There were lots of great dark chocolate chunks and beautiful texture. I wouldn't have minded a slightly stronger coffee flavor, but that's a personal preference.

Super cute and quaint ice cream shop in the downtown Hood River area! The servers were so friendly and patient as we excitedly tried their fun flavors (like marionberry or even banana ice cream!). They have a cute sitting area with a little play area for little kids which is so cute and lovely. We hope to come back and try even more of their flavors soon!

This is a great local spot that has great ice cream, especially ice cream sundaes if you're into that type of thing and I had to get a Neapolitan one that's perfect for the spring or summertime weather. They have a great little selection. It's a small, very small little shop but cute and I am assuming this has been around for quite a while because I swear I've seen it when I was a kid but I could be wrong. This is a great staple of the community and it keeps going as the places here are local in the small town.

I love Mike's! I make it a priority to stop by whenever I am in the area, it is a must. Banana is my go-to but you can't go wrong with any flavor really. I always get the kids scoop and it is more than enough! They say the baby scoop is the size of a golf ball but it seems bigger than that actually. Cash only but they do IOUs! I forgot cash once and it wasn't a big deal at all.

Road-tripping through Oregon and staying a night at Hood River. When I searched for top destinations in Hood River - Mike's Ice Cream was highly recommended. I chuckled when I arrived and saw its business hours and realized why this spot is the "happening" spot in town (because everything else around the area is closed by 5pm). Loved the patio and the chairs, it was nice to sit, relax, chat and enjoy my double scoop ice cream on the waffle cone. The boys at the counter were really nice and patient and allowed me to sample several of their ice cream. The banana and coffee ice cream was delicious! Love this place. Definitely stop by for a scoop of ice cream if you are visiting this part of town.

They only accept cash or check! But it's a cute little place with a lot of delicious ice cream flavors. Raspberry Cheesecake was soooooooo good!!!! Definitely a must if in the area. The have a really nice outdoor seating area for cool and breezy days. I came at the perfect time of the year. Enjoy!

A cute local spot in the town of Hood River. I've always seen a line through their doors but with such friendly service and yummy ice cream, it's not surprising why. They only take cash but are sooo eager for you to have your ice cream first that they're also open for you to mail in a check! Their ice cream flavors were straightforward but very well done. The Coffee ice cream was super rich and had a strong espresso taste. The Pistachio and Almond was also very nice. Loved the texture from the almond mix-ins. Totally would come back for more whenever I'm in town!

This place is adorable--it has a great vintage, rambling vibe. There's a teeny-tiny garden, crammed full of chairs of all sizes, perfect for chilling on a hot day. Our kiddo loved the garden; we had to go twice over our short trip to Hood River. In terms of the ice cream itself, none of the flavors we tried were particularly amazing, but we didn't mind. The vibe (and proximity to another Hood River favorite--The Children's Park) made Mike's Playground perfect for us.

Excellent flavors. My fav is the fresh banana. This place is super popular. A definite go to!

The good: ice cream The bad: very small space when ordering, lots of people talking at once, and the line not being in order. Very pricey because it's Tillamook ice cream (a sundae bowl with the works is $6, but a simple two scoop cone is much more)

Best way to finish a day of shopping on Oak Street is a stop at Mike's for some really delicious ice cream! Located right next to the Ruddy Duck, there are lots of bright Adirondack chairs in shades of turquoise to sit and enjoy your dish or cone. They are generous with their servings and have the usual flavors plus unique offerings. Salted caramel is my fave and I tend to get it every time. On a warm summer day they get super crowded so make sure to bring your patience! They work through the line as fast as possible. We stopped by around 2pm recently and totally lucked out, being second in line. We moved a chair into the shade and enjoyed our cold and sweet treat while people watching and enjoying the crisp fall day.

There is a very good reason why there was a line outside of this little ice cream shop in Hood River. The folks inside were doing their best to get us in and out. Limited seating outside but we got lucky. I'll say that Galaxy ice cream is the way to go. Essentially a pumped up chocolate chip ice cream with big old chunks of dark and white chocolate. They are cash only but with a check option? Which we thought was a joke, but they do have something worked out with another store in the neighborhood. Compostable cups and spoons, so there's that. It was a good place to stop at after a great dinner up the street. Enjoy. Support local.

The cutest lil small town ice cream shop I've ever been to! Lovely outdoor area with a plethora of benches & chairs to enjoy desserts. The service was fantastic. We didn't realize it was cash only & the sweet girl at the counter didn't hesitate to tell us "I'll give you an IOU!" Kindly dished up our order & gave us directions to a close by ATM. No rush on getting back to make our payment, she even said we could come the next day if that's easier. They've been doing this IOU business since the 80's she told me. They get their ice cream from a small local creamery in Eugene. It's super creamy & delicious. We got pumpkin pie & snickerdoodle. Both amazing. 10/10 recommend & will be stopping her every time I pass through.

So so tasty. Huge line but went fast. I loved the mint Oreo ice cream, and the Java was delish too.

There's usually a line at Mike's. A seasonal treat that satisfies, bursting sweet and creamy on the tongue. We tried the triple waffle cone with the usual Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate. Strawberries taste fresh-picked with new sweet crème.

So happy i got to stop on by here and try their Oregon bing cherry ice cream! Super creamy & delicious. Definitely looked like the popular pick since it was almost empty in the ice cream tin!

Cute little cash only ice cream shop in Hood River.. we walked in and could immediately smell the ice cream every where around us.. we ordered the Galaxy with wafer cone and it was good.. lots of outdoor seating for folks to hang out.. staff is extremely friendly and entertaining.. all in all we enjoyed our ice cream pit stop here at Mike's..

We were heading through the area and decided to take a stop at Mikes, because the other ice cream shop we wanted to go to was closed. Adorable shop! Little outside idea with a small climbing structure and cute chairs in the shade. I got their pumpkin pie flavored ice cream, and-WOW. It tasted amazing!! It's a seasonal flavor, so it won't be there in the other seasons, but if you're stopping by in autumn, the pumpkin pie is a HIGHLY recommended flavor! It tastes just like pumpkin pie, and I loved it. Will definitely be coming back soon!

I would give this place a 5 for ambience and a 3 for flavor. It did not live up to the hype.

:( please update your hours ! I was so excited, only to park and find a sign on the door that they're closed until April. I guess I should have known better. And I know a lot of places have been closing early these days due to staffing issues, but this was a seasonal closure. Hope to come back and leave a better review in the spring!

Very nice - good selection of flavors, creamy, delicious, satisfying. Great place to come after having some very good tortas and tacos Just up the street. Will be back They take cash and checks BUT will accept an IOU which you can then send them a check or go to the ATM. Trusting! A rare find in today's world.

Three workers worked for about 5-7 min to help two ladies before us. When it was our turn, one of the two workers condescendingly ordered us to move to the side so she could help the customer behind us. I chose not to eat any ice cream here.

An adorable little ice cream stop in Hood River that we made a point to come back to. Seems we weren't the only ones with this thought, as there was quite a crowd around and the workers were doing a great job running the line smoothly while being friendly. My partner's scoops of banana and galaxy were both very good and creamy. I ended up with the raspberry sorbet, because it was the only non-dairy option. Being lactose intolerant, I was quite disappointed there weren't more dairy free options (seems like I'm seeing a soy and/or coconut milk ice cream option pop up all over the place now). Anyways, I was not in the mood for a sorbet so I'm not sure if it was really just average or if I was just not in the mood for it. To end on a positive note - they use compostable cups and spoons!

Agree with other reviewers - it's really good yet not 5 stars as it can't compare with Salt & Straw. I do love this place - the little building is really cute and photogenic. Lots of ice cream choices, all of which we really enjoyed. I actually got a chocolate shake this time around and loved every minute of it. I'll definitely come back on our next trip to Hood River.

My wife had a terrible customer service here. She bought three ice cream cones for our sons and their cousin. She also asked for a cup of water. She was told water was and cups were outside. As this was happening a person came in asked for a cup for water and was given a big cup with ice. We were disappointed to be treated so differently.

Enjoyed some of this delicious ice cream on one of the 100 degree heat wave days. Wonderful stand, hearty scoops, lovely little outdoor eating space, and loved that the employee working also spoke Spanish and helped some Spanish speaking customers after us. Great place, highly recommend!!

I'm a big ice cream guy. I appreciate good quality ice cream and visit local creameries anytime I travel. Mikes ice cream is pretty poor quality ice cream that reminds you of some cheap Breyers. The mint isn't very minty and just has a faint mint taste along with green food coloring. The chocolate isn't very chocolaty and you can tell from the little cocoa they did use that it was pretty poor quality. The cookie dough taste like a gross prepackaged candy cookie dough. Overall I would not recommend coming here and you would likely be much more satisfied getting the local gelato or just a pint of haagen daz.

Amazing find! A wonderful neighborhood ice cream shop that serves absolutely delicious ice cream, frozen yogurts, and milkshakes!!! It is also extremely affordable and portions are very generous. Personally, I was super-impressed by their special - Creamsickle Milkshake. It was remarkably tasty, smooth, and not too sweet - just perfect! Absolutely give this place a shot - you'll love it!

They're opened! Not sure why Yelp is reporting it as closed right now. Lots of great flavors to choose from with a delicious waffle cone. Shoutout to the friendly staff. Unfortunately I took a star away because they're cash or checks only. If you do not have cash, they advertise for you to walk down to a nearby ATM after getting your ice cream. During COVID handling cash is not really considered contact-free and risky in my opinion. Should consider adding a vemno option if they wish to avoid the transaction fee, or even pass on the fee onto the customer (which I'm happy to pay if it means I can get ice cream without using cash).

What an awesome ice cream experience. The ice cream was delicious and affordable. What was really great is the sign on the front door saying, "Cash only, if you don't have cash you can mail it to us later, or the ATM is right down the street." Ayva and Eva waited on me, and they were friendly and funny. They made us feel welcome like we were regulars for years. They even had a gluten free/dairy free option for my wife. If you are fortunate enough to get to spend some time in Hood River, OR, make sure you stop at Mike's. You won't be sorry you did, and if you see Ayva or Eva, say hi for me and Susan. :)

Got a kid scoop split of the Galaxy and Chai flavors. Chai was nice, lots of cardamom and some good crunchy bits. Galaxy was solid, malt chocolate with chips, nothing wrong with that. Really cute location in town center, plenty of benches and chairs around for outdoor seating, plus a little playground for kids to play on.

In the summer, this adorable cottage on Oak Street is a true delight for ice cream lovers. Grab a scoop and sit on the lawn or picnic benches and soak in the sun. There is also this funky play structure on the side that reminds me of 'The Doctor is In' from the Peanuts cartoon strip. Lucy, where are you? The business is seasonal and only open from April 1st to November 1st. During the off season, you can still get their gelato from Doppio Coffee + Lounge just down the street.

I love Mike's! I often rent a place in HR when visiting, and last time I was just about 300 steps from the store, which was both perfect, and also WAY too much temptation. There's often a line, but it moves quickly, and the young people behind the counter are helpful and efficient. They offer tastes, and answer questions. I find their helpings WAY big, so my favorite way to enjoy a scoop here is the "split single" - which lets you mix 2 flavors as a single scoop (and charge - of $3). My current favorites are salted caramel mixed with the chocolate lover's chocolate, though kona coffee chip with chocolate is a flavor bomb too! Cash only, but if you come without, they'll take an IOU and you can head to the ATM after you buy your ice cream. There's something refreshingly chill and small-town in the best way about seeing lots of people sitting around on chair and benches outside the store, enjoying the summer breezes, talking, watching kids and dogs and traffic, and eating ice cream. Love the whole experience!

Went there yesterday and wasn't treated very respectfully I left a tip and everything but girl that was working there was pretty rude and not friendly ice cream is good will probably not go back

Delicious black raspberry sorbet but my raspberry cheesecake tasted like soap. Not very impressed.

We were so happy it was open since the rest of the town (aside from bars) is closed down on a Sunday night. Pretty basic on the ice cream flavors, and they don't accept debit cards, but give you the product asking that you send the payment later. Honor system at its best?

The cutest little ice cream parlor in the gorge. They always have new flavors rotating in and out and some of my favorites hang around all summer (the French roast is amazing!!). Conveniently located downtown hood river and the vibes are low key.
