16 Outstanding Maryland Crab Houses Worth the Drive

"The original Mike’s Crab House comes with a view of the South River. The crabs are the main draw, but the butter corn hush puppies are a favorite as well. For a similar experience with half the wait time, head to Mike’s Crab House North in Pasadena, Maryland." - Tierney Plumb, Tim Ebner

Decent food, bad service, and scenic views. The prices were overall very good. The crabs were fresh, but didn’t have seasoning on them, and same thing with the sides. Our waiter came by maybe 3 times within an hour. We would have purchased more food and drinks but didn’t want to wait. I understand they’re busy on a Saturday afternoon, but if I spend $100+, I expect to be waited on every 10-15 minutes.

We were visiting from FL when friends suggested lunch at Mike’s Restaurant and Crabhouse. Everything we ordered was delicious. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Our server was the absolute best! She never got flustered with all of the 13+ orders she took from us to be brought out together. This was the perfect choice. Thanks Delores!

Great atmosphere situated beside the water. Food was savory and hot. Service was superb. I’ve heard the wait can exceed 2 hours but fortunately we were seated immediately. Definitely will return.

Google
Mikes was on our minds all week. We Arrived Saturday evening to a 1-1.5 hour wait for indoor and outdoor seating. Saw a few seats at the bar and decided to sit there instead but the hosts didn’t offer that as we almost left. Thanks to Nick and Nick at the bar, our experience was exceptional. Will be back soon - AT THE BAR

Today was my first time visiting Mike’s in Annapolis 🦀🌊 and I couldn’t have picked a better day to go. With the sun shining ☀️ and the waterfront breeze setting the mood, it was the perfect setting to satisfy my craving for crab cakes. I ordered the crab cake platter which came with a fresh side salad 🥗 and crispy French fries 🍟—a classic combo done right. The crab cakes were exactly what I hoped for: generous, golden brown, and packed with flavor without too much filler 🙌🏼. You could really taste the quality of the crab meat 🦀. My grandmother went with the mussels 🥣 and a fried oyster sandwich 🥪, and she enjoyed every bite. The oysters were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the mussels were served in a rich, savory broth. A big shoutout to our waitress, Karli, who was super attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well taken care of 💯. Between the great food, welcoming service, and relaxing waterfront views, Mike’s definitely earned a spot on my “go back again” list ✅💙.

Google
Mike's is the place to be for delicious blue claw crab and beer. I've tried other restaurants in the area, and this has been the best experience by far. The service is always good, and the food is consistently amazing. The crabs are clean and delicious, with the perfect amount of seasoning to really make them stand out.

Google
Heard this is good restaurant, so me and friend came together for a dinner during our travel. We ordered a dozen of raw oyster, scallop dinner, and a crab imperial dinner. The scallop dinner is really little amount (5 normal scallop only with a little bit rice and some fries!) but still cost me 32 bucks, oyster and imperial crab are ok. Overall, the price is kind of too high except you want a fine dinner and do not care too much about price. I would not recommend this restaurant to normal travelers. p.s. the kitchen look not very tidy by seeing through the entry.

Google
Always have a great time here. The wait can be long on nice days. This particular time, we were quoted 45min for outside and got the text about 20min later. Fresh seafood is perfect on a warm summer day in Maryland!

Yelp
I'm in town on business and decided to stop in for dinner (Riva location). I was not disappointed. I started with the Crab Dip Shrimp. It consisted of six large shrimp butterflied open and topped with crab dip. They were delicious. I then ordered a 9oz New York Strip and Crab Cake, with a side salad and baked potato. While the steak did lack seasoning, the cook (medium) was exactly as I ordered it. The crab cake, amazing. It may sound like a weird compliment, but I believe it had more actual crab than any other crab cake I've ever had. The baked potato was just that, a baked potato. The side salad, however, was super fresh. It was also the size of a full salad. Now that I've told you about the food, let me tell you about the staff. I ate by myself, which is always a gamble. Sometimes, the staff ignores you, believing you won't leave a good tip or the bill will be so small, the tip wouldn't amount to anything. During my meal, I had four additional employees check on me and ask if I needed any thing. Although they asked, I didn't need anything. This is because Jill had everything under control. She was knowledgeable about the menu, she had good input, and she was attentive the entire time, without being overbearing. Given the chance, I will definitely go back.

Yelp
I was originally quoted 30ish minutes for a table of 1, which in fairness it was a saturday afternoon and they were already packed. I was seated closer to 15 minutes with Jade, who was an absolute star! She was quick, attentive, and very sweet. She genuinely made my entire trip. I was in Maryland for my mom's funeral, and went to Mike's at a recommendation from a friend in Mass who was from Annapolis originally. The crab-topped shrimp were divine, and all the fish on the platter was amazing. Now I know why my mom used to say you couldn't get crab cakes like they make them in MD, because there were big hunks of crab meat in there, not an overpowering amount, but the ideal ratio of meat-to-batter. When I tell you I could eat ten of those suckers in one sitting, I mean it. My only regret is that I didn't have a cooler to bring some home back to Massachusetts, because it's been 3 weeks and my mouth waters at the thought of having another one of those crab cakes. The orange roughy was also cooked perfectly. I've never had orange roughy in particular, but Jade was quick to educate me, and I opted for the broiled platter over the fried, if only to try something new. Either way, delicious food all around and great service from a wonderful server!

Yelp
Last experience was horrible. My usual bartenders were not there this Sunday. This review is not about the food but about the service. The lady behind the bar and I got into it because the runner gave me someone's else order of crab dip. I was waiting for her to come to tell her and she proceeds to start fussing at me telling me I shouldn't have taken it and suggested that I was trying to eat it and not pay for it. The managers there took her side. Never got the 2 of us together to discuss it. And then refused to allow me to buy anything else from the bar because she felt threatened. So she can get ugly and then pretty much get me thrown out. Said I cussed at her. I could have but I didn't cuss at her. The man sitting next to me was acting like he was on my side then more a seat away from me and started telling his own version of the story but said he not trying to get involve. But hell he was involved when you decided to open your mouth. My hubby and I have been coming here for a while now. When either of the Nicks are there. There had never been anything like this happen to me. They even admitted that they were under staffed and stressed but coming at me was not the not right. That her frustration out on who did it. Not a loyal patron who comes and spends over $200 every time we come in. We are regulars to the point either Nick know what we like to drink when we come and sit at the bar. I felt humiliated because that has never ever happened to me. So now I guess I have to find another spot to get my seafood and crabs. I've seen her cut up before at the bar. So trust me when I say, it was not me that started it that day. She just made sure she whined enough to get het way. They told I had to buy anything else I wanted at the carry out area but I wasn't going to be served anymore at the bar. I Love Mike's and have introduced several of my friends to the restaurant. It saddens me that this happened. Guess I'm done.

Yelp
Soft shell crab and seafood by the water! Great spot for a casual sunday lunch with the family. Love that you can walk by the pier after your meal. Nice servers and plenty of seating. No complaints, highly recommended!
google avatar

Tia C.

Yelp
The staff is great along with the crabs! And if you get a crab that's to light they will trade it for a heavy one! I've never been disappointed! I love the new locations also!
google avatar

Mai S.

Yelp
If you're in Maryland, you've got to eat crabs by the water with a slushy drink--it's an experience! They don't have slushy drinks, but the rum punch hit the spot. It wasn't too sweet, had a nice tartness, and a good kick. The crabs? Huge! Only large males were available, and they came out fast, though not as hot as I would've liked. The seasoning was heavy on the outside, but didn't quite get into the meat. No worries though--I mixed vinegar, butter, and seasoning together to make my own dipping sauce, it was delish! Oh, and the hush puppies are a must! They were hot and savory, but once you dip them in that cinnamon butter! A1. The outdoor space was really nice and relaxing, but just watch out for the bees they were a nuisance- . Our server was nice , but hard to track down seems like she had tables inside and out. Overall, a good experience.

Yelp
I liked this place! It's on the water & there's plenty of seating. I enjoyed everything we got for the most part. The crabs were kind of salty but I liked the seafood sampler, soft shell crab, & sides. It was pretty good & I think it's a great place for families. Also, the service was good for it being busy. They were pretty attentive as much as they could be.

Yelp
Cute little hidden gem right off the water! Came here to celebrate one of my good friends' birthday. I was impressed that they not only had a wide variety of yummy bites to choose from, including: coconut shrimp, fried oysters, oysters casino, etc. I was impressed that they had my beloved snow crab legs. And boy were they delicious. I highly enjoyed every bit of my dish and some of my friend's dishes too as we all shared our apps. Of course the star of the show were the Maryland style crabs with lots of steam and old bay. My friend was a little disappointed that she had to separately purchase and create her own dipping sauce for her crabs ( they should definitely change that policy as it is quite bizarre and off-putting for dine-in guests. Another disappointing fact was that we were allowed to bring in balloons to celebrate her birthday. We weren't aware of this policy as it was our first time visiting this restaurant, but the staff was kind of rude about it, making the situation very awkward. There could have been a better way to handle new comers instead of raining on their special day. They also offered to place our cake for her in their fridge ...we weren't allowed to sing happy birthday to her with her cake. Needless to say , although the food was good and I definitely enjoyed my snow crab legs, I won't be back to celebrate any special occasions.

Yelp
Every foods are great . We take home some of them . This is our favorite restaurant. We will come again and again for special occasions.

Yelp
Ravyn was an absolute delight when we visited at the end of June. The weather was perfect to sit outside. It was a little windy so make sure you have a few heavy items to weigh down your paper. I wanted to try a little of everything so I got the oyster Rockefeller and both soups mixed. I was overjoyed when Ravyn told me I could get both. I didn't enjoy the oyster Rockefeller as much. The bacon was a little too thick cut for my liking. We also ordered a dozen large crabs. They were really meaty and delicious.

Tanisha W.

Yelp
My friends and I frequent this restaurant. It has a beautiful scenic, water view, and my friends who are from Maryland and love Crabs, rave about how big and meaty their crabs are. Meanwhile, me being from up north, I am not really a crab person. So when I go, I get their stuffed shrimp platter, which is amazing and I also do their crab dip as appetizer which they will serve me with bread instead of the crackers. It's a great place to visit.

Yelp
Food is decent but the real star of the show are the views. While the service is hit or miss, the hostess is accommodating to large and small parties.
google avatar

William Y.

Yelp
This is a very casual restaurant located on the water. We checked in with the hostess requested outside seating on the water and was told the wait would be about 30 minutes. We said we would wait in the bar. The bar was packed and very hectic. About 30 minutes later, I received a text, "We are ready to seat you, return to the hostess stand. The hostess then directed us to the outside hostess, who was nowhere to be found. After some more confusion with servers and which table were clean, we were seated at a dirty table. We decided to order appetizers for dinner. We went with fried calamari, crab stuffed mushrooms, and oysters. All three appetizers were very good. In summary: Atmosphere - 4/5. Being on the water gets it to a four. Food - 4/5 Service: - 2/5. Disorganized Cost - $$ reasonable
google avatar

Michaela N.

Yelp
... everything was ... fine. I think I'm a little partial another waterside restaurant in Annapolis. There was nothing wrong per se. I would prefer more outdoor seating!
google avatar

Dakota M.

Yelp
Huge crabs and great service! This 40 minute drive from Baltimore was well worth it. This is a no frills crab house great for small and large groups. We took advantage of the crab deal: buy two dozens get one free!
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
Probably would give a 5* review if we weren't seated at the bar and had a table so we could enjoy the MD style whole crabs. Got a bunch of crab legs and fried platter instead. Food was solid no real complaints honestly.
google avatar

Shontina K.

Yelp
First time experiencing the best crab and crab legs I've ever had in life!!!! I was in town for the weekend staying in DC and it was worth the hour ride and cost of an Uber for what we received!!! Great food and amazing customer service. The ambiance is very warm and welcoming. The restaurant sits right on the water. Unfortunately, it was raining so I couldn't get some outside photos. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Elaine S.

Yelp
We came for a dozen crabs and they were hot and large and did not disappoint! I also ordered the hush puppies and we also had Blue Moon on draft

Yelp
Party of 6 for a lovely meal located overlooking the water while the Blue Angels practiced flight maneuvers overhead. What a magical experience. Service was good, maybe a bit overextended with busy restaurant and AWOL at times, but was there when necessary. We were seated within minutes of approaching the hostess station and taken to a picnic table on the outside covered wooden deck. A large piece of Kraft paper was placed on our table in preparation for the oncoming feast. We started with salads (caesar and garden variety) and then progressed to a dozen steamed crabs, which we proceeded to decimate with wooden mallets. Succulent tender sweet meat was terrific plain, but could be dipped in butter, vinegar, or Old Bay per diner's taste. Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating inside and outside, covered and uncovered. We were glad to have lemon slices and wet wipes to make ourselves presentable after our escapades. Crab shells even ended up in my hair, which is proof that I had a damned great time working for my meal. Will return when I am fortunate enough to return to the area. Locals are lucky!!!
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
This is my second visit here and I was able to taste a variety of food. Let's start with the crabs.... The large crabs were very meaty and tasty, I love some nice heavy crabs. I also ordered the steak and crab cake the crab cake was delicious full with jumbo lump crab meat. The steak was cooked to my liking very moist, I don't ever put steak sauce on my steak if the steak is cooked correctly. I ordered clam casinos and Rockefeller oysters which was good. The atmosphere and location is great. This is a nice restaurant/treat to take your family. The servers were very accommodating and nice. I ordered a reposado margarita and it was decent. I will definitely be returning soon.
google avatar

Eydie Q.

Yelp
Love their crabs!!! The only thing I would fault this place for is that I had to wait an hour and a glad for a table! But seriously their steamed crabs are awesome and they give you all the dipping sauces - butter, vinegar and Old Bay.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Always perfect always good always satisfying always my happy place the service is good drinks are good and crabs are perfect and if u get a bad one they'll replace it
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
We went here for a Friday lunch and it was great! Beautiful scenery with the water, boats, and nice outdoor air (though you are basically sitting in benches.) And the service was great and attentive to our needs. But the star of the experience was the crabs! They were a nice size, juicy (but not soggy), and fresh. But I will say that they were Louisiana crabs and not Maryland crabs-- not a deal breaker but worth nothing. Also, they don't advertise jumbo crabs on menu but ask your waiter about it and they can see how many they have (pro-tip for dine-in only.) Overall, good experience and oh yea get the hush puppies because why not!
google avatar

Howard F.

Yelp
Crabs, pretty fresh off the boat. The place opened at 11am Sunday morning and there was a line out the door already. They seated us quickly, the service was good, and so was the crab. Market rates, so crab was expensive, but c st la vie. My crab cakes were yummy, and so were other folks' whole crabs (half of us sat apart from the messy crab-cracking crew, since we did not need to go through so much work for our crab cakes.) this spot, complete with docks and right next to a bridge, is worth a visit, and there's plenty of non-crab food if you don't like crab, and even a good variety of non-seafood and non-fish fare.
google avatar

Jon R.

Yelp
Atmosphere was nice outside patio was cool. Food was good, server Matt was nice. Haven't had crab cakes in a long time, we chose the broiled vs fried. They were good
google avatar

Yelp
Tony and I went to the Washington DC Area on our annual trip to celebrate his birthday. We spent the night in Annapolis, MD at the Double Tree by Hilton (highly recommend) After having a few cocktails in the Hotel Bar, we drove the 1 mile trek to Mike's Crab House. The place was packed, large free on site parking lot. We were greeted and seated immediately. Unfortunately, the outside dining deck was full, but the waitress found us a great window seat near the water. We ordered the Steam Pot Appetizer with Jumbo Shrimp, Mussels. Clams and Oysters...then we ordered half a dozen Old Bay Seasoned Whole Medium Size Crabs (we had to crack with wooden mallet) SO MUCH FUN! GREAT DATE ACTIVITY...!! Definitely recommend this restaurant. Staff awesome and food amazing!

Catherin P.

Yelp
I went there today (5/26/2024) It's a super busy day on Memorial Day Weekend. The wait was 2.5 hours for us to get a table. All of our foods are fresh and delicous. The best part is the service. Our server is "Rochelle." She did her super great job. Eventhough our table is the far end table at the patio, Rochelle could gave us the prompt service. I got everything I need for my dinner in a timely manner. It was worth to wait 2.5 hours to get good food & good service.
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Crab leg special! Clients loved it. Great lunch with Alicia and Rochelle! Waterfront views are amazing! Fun times!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
I was looking forward to coming here on the special occasion of celebrating my sister's birthday with some good ole seafood. Just note that this place gets pretty crowded during the weekends and lunch rush. This restaurant is right on the docks so to pass time we enjoyed walking the around and taking pictures. The food was underwhelming to say the least. The MD crab soup was overly salty. The Rockefeller oysters were overcooked. The large sized crabs were in a lot smaller than expected. The crab legs did not taste fresh and were too salty. The only dish we enjoyed were the fresh oysters. I don't think I'll go out of my way to revisit this establishment again.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
Here with wifey and the food and staff are excellent. This is a repeat trip for us. This dive have excellent food here line the crab dip and Seafood combo platers. We also come here for the surprise drinks we request for from Both Nicks'. The ambiance there wonderful from indoor and outdoor.
google avatar

Howie X.

Yelp
Found this restaurant not far from the hotel I stayed at for my U.S.Naval Academy trip . The restaurant features all the local oysters , shrimps and blue crabs . The seafood is fresh, most all harvested from the Chesapeake Bay area . My crabs were a little heavy on the seasoning , other than that , we enjoyed it .

Yelp
If you are looking for a spot to grab crabs by the water (when it's not super hot) Mikes is the spot. I arrived around 1 and we were seated within 30 mins for a party of 2. They don't do reservations so pack your patience if you have larger parties. The prices for a dozen jumbo crabs were reasonable for Maryland. They were full of meat and came out hot. Hush puppies and the butter were a nice side. Our Orange crush drinks were a perfect match. Mike's Bar and Crab House is your quintessential MD crab house. Will definitely return when it's not so hot to sit outside. Service was quick and Hanna our waitress was attentive and friendly. I'll be back. Sidenote: Parking is a bit tight but people come and go fairly quickly so it's a lot of turnover. Perfect atmosphere for crabs and beer.
google avatar

Tarsha S.

Yelp
Even thought I waited 2 hours and still didn't get a table I'm still Giving them 4 stars! The ambiance and drive there was beautiful. I love the fact this restaurant brings out people of all ages, ethnicities and creeds. It's such a mixing pot of good energy and I loved that. Now, arrived on a Sunday around 4pm , it was super duper busy!!!! Barely found a parking space. Checked in and was told it was a 45min wait. After 1 hour and 15mins of waiting patiently I asked how much longer and they said 5 tables ahead. ..... wait for it.... Waited additional 45 mins checked the status and they said 3 tables ahead!! Have you ever seen that snickers commercial! So you can already tell what the outcomes was. I started getting sooooo annoyed and HANGRY, that it felt impossible to wait for 3 more tables so I left. ... Too bad I couldn't try the food but it looked and smelled killer! However I did try there drink and the bar side is nice too. It faces the water. But the wait time to sit there was over 2 hours. Either way I'll be back and this time I'm eat breakfast, lunch and a small dinner, plus bring my charger and snickers. lol

Carolyn H.

Yelp
The place for steamed crabs & " home style" seafood. Great price for oysters on the half shell & crab cakes were well made, with tasty sides. Wish they had the buckets of steamers more often. Love those, but they are often unavailable. Good spicy Bloody Mary to enjoy with the crabcake sandwich. Nice & friendly service.
google avatar

Merlyn F.

Yelp
The steak and Crab cake was Awesome! Service was great! Watching everyone destroy huge buckets of crab was totally fun! Next time I'm out from California I'm going for that bucket of crab! This place is next to the water and has a very cool vibe!
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
It's crab season and family came down from Brooklyn to partake. Mike's on the water right outside of Annapolis on Riva Road is a go to. Since they don't take reservations, we arrived soon after opening on a Saturday to avoid a wait. The large crabs were meaty and delish. Our server Joe took care of us. The temperature and breeze from the water made for a lovely patio experience. And well, the family were beyond satisfied. They also have great appetizers and crush. We also delighted in (I forgot to order the hush puppies.): POTATO SKINS stuffed with crab meat, shrimp, scallops, cheddar cheese and imperial sauce MUSHROOM CAPS stuffed with crab imperial FRIED CALAMARI NUTTY BUDDIES vanilla ice cream cone, dipped in chocolate, covered in peanuts HYBRID CRUSH orange juice, grapefruit juice, vodka

Yelp
Recently I visited this beautiful establishment. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and had some great food with even better drinks! However, the best part of our experience was the customer service by our bartender Darren! He was fast, attentive and even humorous! We will definitely be back! Cheers!

Yelp
MacKenzie was amazing!!! She recommended a great veggie meal. Love, love, love the food! Can't wait to return!

Donna B.

Yelp
Had the most pleasant lunch at your establishment today.... Food and service was on point and far surpassed all my expectations..... our servers name was McKenzie.... she went up and beyond giving us amazing service‼We are from out of town and will definitely remember Mike's bar and crab House for our future return‼

Toni T.

Yelp
1st off, I have to give Brandon, the store manager the ultimate respect and gratitude. I took my husband out for his birthday today and he went above and beyond to meet his special request. Thank you to the whole wait staff who was equally amazing. The food was great and worth the $! Thank you. My new fave spot!
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
We got the calamari, hush puppies, and the crab! Everything was great, we sat outside and view was awesome. Our waiter was super attentive! The hush puppies came out with cinnamon butter and you HAVE to try!
google avatar

Keisha F.

Yelp
Best crabs in Maryland! Always my go to. Nice size crabs and plenty of great appetizers. I will be trying the land and sea options soon!
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
Went on Mother's Day and was worried about wait and parking but it was super smooth! The wait for inside was long but patio wasn't. We had a cocktail at cool covered outside bar. Everyone loved their food and server was very attentive. Can't wait to go back in summer
google avatar

Jeff V.

Yelp
Always a good choice for dinner, especially when the weather is nice and you can sit on the deck. The food is wonderful. The crab balls could be a meal if you order a salad . Several seasoning options for the fish. Overall perfect experience.

Elijah C.

Yelp
21 years old and not allowed to drink. People were awful to deal with as a whole, I would not reccomend coming here instead travel the 10 minutes to Annapolis for better food and hospitality.
google avatar

Sabrina J.

Yelp
I went to celebrate my birthday solo and found this place. It was highly recommended by others in this community and I will never pass up trying some good seafood. It was crowded with many people eating crabs both inside and on the outside terrace overlooking the water which is a good thing. It's says something about the quality of their food. Instead of offering some crabs which would have been nice I ordered some crab soup along with their crab cakes which were huge. I could only eat the one and had to take the other back to my hotel. The soup was filled (just like I like it) with crab meat. Along with a small salad and warm bread. The prices were very reasonable also. If I'm in the area again I'm certainly going to try the crabs as well. Thumbs up and hats off to you!
google avatar

Tryce G.

Yelp
If you're looking for good seafood, Mikes is your spot. Food is consistency great! The crabs never disappoint.
google avatar

Bunny R.

Yelp
They are absolutely disorganized!! Their system doesn't work if that's not true they are liars... sheesh when you're waiting in line... where you are i. The line up is super important The crab dip was bland. Oysters were fresh and taste great. The waitress got the order wrong. We ordered the steamed platter and got the steamed combo... it was decent. The crabs were just okay and they robbed us of the legs..... but I got them after asking got them.... Not a great experience for the drive from DC....... Just okay
