Walked by and saw the blackboard outside that had specials written on it including TAMALES AND ENFRIJOLADAS Two foods that are unique and delicious, so I walked in and ordered take out. The food is fantastic lol. Enchiladas (with Frijoles on top) stuffed with queso panela, rice, chicken on the side, and onions on top… very good The tamales was the same quality … tasty and delicious. Not to mention warm/hot when I walked back home. Muchas gracias I’ll be back

Love this place for takeout! The Supreme nachos are a household favorite, but we also love their empanadas too!

Actually these tacos have exceeded my expectations, they are extremely nice! Lady at the till was very friendly and attentive bearing in mind I am scared of very spicy food so she recommended that I put the spices on a side in case I wanted to try them, which I did. These tacos are so tasty and they were ready so quick, totally recommend them if you are around the area :) Pricelist menu on the piccys 🤗

Mikes has been a staple in jersey city for a long time and will stay that way because the family that owns it is loving caring and can make a mean bowl of soup!!!!

Dang. Do yourself a favor and order from this place. Was craving chilaquiles this morning and my boyfriend suggested this place since he’s stopped in for empanadas and enchiladas before. Said it’s clean, has good food, and good service. Well, it was fantastic! The girl on the phone was very sweet. The delivery guy was nice too. Now the food... amazing! The boyfriend downed his Mexican omelette so fast. That tomatillo sauce on the chilaquiles is EVERYTHING! Definitely have some leftovers for lunch. Super pleased to have this so close to home. Can’t wait to order again! Thank you!!!!!

I respect this place. Hard working family doing there thing. Food was awesome, attention from the staff was on point. Definitely gotta try if you are in Jersey city. Show love

I went to this restaurant hoping for the best which turned out to be what I did not expect. I ordered chicken and shrimp soft tacos, and when I opened the box in my car to enjoy a meal, what I saw was very disappointing. The taco that was prepared was a cooked tortilla, three pieces of chicken (and shrimp in the separate tacos) and an unnecessary amount of cilantro. I was expecting more ingredients and more taste in the chicken. When I went to get my drink, I found a cockroach in the freezer and it wasn't exactly keeping the drinks cool. In the end, I do not recommend the soft tacos.

$17 for a Fajitas, and the plate wasn’t even full 🧍🏻‍♀️.. and it had more veggies than chicken. That’s a ridiculous price for food that was not enough for an adult.

Just picked up a chicken burrito and it was outstanding- very fresh and flavorful. I wish I could find an option for a side of beans & rice though. Also some salsa picante would be good- but like I said, very flavorful, generously portioned. Service was super friendly. Will definitely order again.

I have been coming here off and on for years. People complain about the wait, Great food like this is worth it. No joke BEST empanadas in the heights! The burgers and nachos are also very awesome. Highly recommend this great business!

I'd give it five stars but it's prices are a teensy bit high for most entree / platters. But it's not so high I'd reduce it by two stars. The quality of the food is always fresh, flavorful, and the service is top notch. Always friendly and clean with a welcome atmosphere. Not my favorite place, but if you're craving mexican they are a lovely lunch spot. The main reason they don't get a perfect score? I really dislike their empanadas, they taste like they are filled with manwich or ground beef mixed with a can of chile con carne, very gross and the chicken empanadas are too sweet and greasy. The best thing on the menu? The "Mike's Tacos" platter. It's never disappointed and comes with guac without an extra charge.

A hole in the wall but surprisingly dishes out some flavorful Mexican fare! Definitely one of my favorite places in Jersey City Heights. $10 for a packed steak burrito: a huge flour tortilla stuffed with rice, beans, meat (of your choice), lettuce, salsa, cheese, and guacamole-- all well- seasoned and cooked well. SO good (if you're in the mood to stuff your face with Mexican food). Great spot to order from on a lazy, rainy Saturday night. Also don't let looks deceive you as their business name and store awning may creep you out, once you enter it's actually pretty cute and authentic! Especially with the lovely Mexican lady standing at the counter sporting a huge toothy smile.

Another good meal here. The salsa was good, nice with a hint of sweetness. The quesadillas looked awesome and everyone seemed to enjoy them. However, they did say the texture of the chicken was a bit odd. The burrito hit the spot for my friend, complete with a nice side salad. The steak fajitas were on point. The steak was a bit tough, but overall still really good. Huge portion may put you in a food coma. Oddly enough, the guacamole, although good, tasted like someone accidentally spilt a ton of salt into it.

This place is a gem in Jersey City! Delicious food at reasonable prices. You gotta try it!

They customized a roasted veggie burrito to make it vegan. It was delicious...but smaller than most burritos. It was also very very expensive, I think $15. It did come with salad but Sol Azteca in downtown is better price, quantity, and taste wise.

Mike's Restaurant is really really good!! The food is very authentic and super tasty. My husband got the Enchiladas Suizas and he absolutely loved them. The Rice and Beans are also really good. I got the Cheese Empanadas and they even added beans to them (I am a vegetarian). They were very accommodating to my food restrictions. I have read all the one or two star comments and they all seem to be about language barriers, not about the flavor. The place is family run and even if it takes a long time, it is totally worth it (our food came out in a normal amount of time)!!! My husband is American and I am Mexican. He said that it's "Nice to have a place to take my super picky wife to, as she never stops complaining about the lack of good authentic Mexican food in the area." He also said that it's half the price of what we'd pay downtown and in posting this review, I'm encouraging all of the other yuppies and they will "ruin it". I hope that you will check out Mike's Restaurant and have the great experience that we did!

So this evening I ordered my regular order..4 fish tacos and I received 3..I called back and the attendant blamed me bc I spoke English to her n not Spanish...in my opinion phone attendant should be fully bilingual..look at what I received.. so glad other restaurants are opening up in the hood!

One of the top eateries in the Heights!! We've had more than half the menu items and they're all incredible. Our favorite regulars are the Mole Oaxaqueno, Milanesa de pollo torta, the flautas and the fajitas. And this is a bold statement, but Mike's has quite possibly the best empanadas and tamales in the area. Great prices and service too.

Very yummy!! I will definitely go back! Try it out for yourself!! :) I think this place gets a bad rep... but it should be tried! Very affordable :)

Food is fine... we like the chicken fingers and fries most of all. But the prices!!! Every day are different. They are also way different than online. Order on an app service and you pay less??!!?? I don't get it.

A hole in the wall, yes. BUT A MUST TRY if you're a Spanish food lover. The cheese empanadas are the best cheese empanadas that I have ever had, hands down. I ordered one of the specials that they were making that day, it was SO GOOD. ..if only I remembered what it was called! Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well, the atmosphere inside was a little too quiet for me. The woman that took my order couldn't really communicate with me very well due to a language barrier, but she was trying which is OK in my book. The place was Empty, without a doubt. Could use a little loving on the decor, too. It's kinda sad in there. This is a great place for take-out or delivery, in my opinion. I wouldn't exactly bring a date there. Definitely something for the locals to try out.

Worst service EVER. Slow as a sleepy sloth and unless you speak Spanish, you can just forget it- they struggle with English, screw up your order and it always takes more than 30 minutes, even for a simply burrito. I walked out last time because it was taking waaaaay too long. Bring a sleeping bag if you eat here as you will need a nap waiting for your messed up order. If you are Hispanic, your order comes out magically in 3 minutes. If you are a gringo, have a seat and prepare to wait an hour or more. Not kidding.

Pure garbage - never EVER eat here- they served old cold food and then expected me to pay for it - which I did anyway - this place is a toilet and I hope it gets shut down

Mike's enchiladas verdes at 11:30 pm: Pure ecstasy. Fresh, hot, flawless. Mouthwatering piquancy and textural perfection. Velvety black beans and fluffy yellow rice. My god, do I love Mike's. Arguably the cheapest and most delicious bite in the Heights you can get at almost any time of day. Highly recommend.

Exactly what I need it to be - no frills, good price. Jaime is the mannn. The chicken empanadas are ++++, I have to stop myself from walking in for one every time I walk by. Steak quesadilla was really good. Breakfast sandwiches are big and the bread makes the sandwich.

I tried so many burritos around this area, but this burrito was not as good as others. It's not bad but its just mediocre.

After being treated so badly I won't be going back regardless of the food being pretty good. I ordered dinner for two. One sandwich and an order of enchiladas. I called in the order for pick up to save a few dollars on delivery. I did have to order in Spanish because the women speaks no English. So its pretty simple uno order of sandwich and uno order De enchiladas. So when I pick up the food I see a bill for 30.00 dollars.I asked why so much? The women said I ordered two orders of enchiladas. I clearly said one order she became nasty and basically yelled at me saying I asked for two shoved the bag of food in my face demanding I pay in full. I paid left before I flipped out on her. Mike or who ever owns this place get someone who understands English or spanish. Uno is a pretty simple number and I won't be going back

empanandas and tamales yum..fast and quick from the side entrance on congress....never ordered delivery but friendly nice woman work there and the price is cheap.nothing like an early am cheese empananda and cafe con leche!
